Forced to Serve #4

The Healer's Kiss

Rate this book
Returning to Lotharius to help rescue the high ambassador's daughter was Boca's choice to make. This time Boca wasn’t going to let any male keep her from walking the warrior's path. Instead, she promised herself that her growing attraction to Doctor Chiang would never become an obstacle. She was never mating the possessive Greggor, no matter how many emissaries of the Creators got involved.

USA Today Bestselling Author

I am an active dreamer and find writing to be the best way to use my creativity. Needing to satisfy both sides of my brain, I have become a cross-genre author of contemporary, romantic comedy, fantasy, science fiction, and paranormal romances.

I feel blessed that my books appear on bestseller lists for humor, romantic comedy, space opera, and more. I crave laughter from all my readers and focus my attention on making that happen as often as possible.

I love to hear from anyone who has read my books. Each reader is a hero or heroine to me. I am inspired by you.

This is mostly Boca and Gregior's story, although we have another couple of new comers that add to the excitement.

Dramatic rescue mission, as well as the Demon is out of sorts..
Looking forward to finding out more next episode.

I love this book and this series! I was eagerly waiting for this book to be realeased and it didn't disappoint. This is one of those books that I was disappointed to get to the end because I love the series so much and can't wait to find out where we are going next.

The main characters in this book are Chaing and Boca. Chaing is a likable character that really has you rooting for him. He is steadfast, honorable, amusing and just a really great guy. A guy anyone would love to be mated with...except his intended, Boca. Boca is an annoying twit. There were times I wanted to throw my kindle because of how stupid / blind / obstinate / ridiculous she was being. Wah, she doesn't like that she likes Chaing so much, wah ~ she is going to lose herself to his wants...wah ~ poor abused Boca. I get it, she had a sucky past...she's been burnt and abused and doesn't want to be hurt again and is unable to trust that good men exist...but good God, how many times does Chaing have to prove himself to you? She ignores all of the wise people on her ship and even her guardian angel entity because she doesn't want to be with anyone for any reason and she feels forced into being with Chaing. Even when she gets with him it is with resentment because she feels forced. And she is going to kick, scream and whine all the way. Seriously, I started wishing that Chaing would dump her and get with someone else just to spite Boca and her obstinance! Of course you are so happy for Chaing when they finally do get together...but as a reader, I think I was happier they were together then Boca was. That girl needs to grow up, grow a pair and own what she wants. Know thyself, Boca!!

Luckily this book is very inter-woven with the others from the series and a good portion of the story is developement/continuation of the other storylines. Anything to do with the ship, Liam, Ania, Dorian, Gwen and especially Machali is great. And the new characters introduced were very compelling. I am anxious to see where things go with the Trax sisters and I like the new siren and Machali and the Spiritual Emmisary...Oh, I can't wait!

I like this series! Three stars for this book. Four stars for the series.

I started the Forced to Serve series with the free Amazon download of The Demon of Synar and have read all of the series to date. It's a space opera, with a little action and a lot of personal interaction between the characters. What I like about this series is that Ms. McDonald portrays the characters as aliens but it turns out that they are not that different from us humans. That is, only one of the characters has any human DNA and the rest originate from worlds far beyond Earth. Several of the non-humans appear to be far more enlightened than humanity, but that is probably due to their very long lives. Not to worry, there are worlds that are certainly less enlightened, assuming you believe slavery to be a bad thing.

In The Healers Kiss, Boca and Chiang have been fated for each other by the Creators. But neither wants to commit. Yes, this theme has been done before. Yes, I did get a little annoyed with their refusal to see the light since everyone else on board the ship keeps pointing them to it. However, both characters still endeared themselves to me as each was fully developed and each had their own redeeming characteristics.

Along with the theme of the uncommitting lovers is the action side of this story where Boca and Chiang go under cover to rescue a dignitary's daughter who has been captured and is being kept as a slave. They are assisted by familiar characters from the previous installments in this series: Captain Synar and Ania Looren, the Demon Malachi, Dorian and Gwen Jet. With the introduction of a few new characters, we are being prepared for the next book in the series.

This was an enjoyable read and I look forward to the next in the series.

I was a little wibbly wobbly on how to rate this one. A lot more of the overarching story and world were cemented in this book, but it took away a little bit from the interpersonal stuff for me. Still a good read, but definitely NOT to be read out of order. I'm starting to think I might have read a short story in this setting before...
ETA: So I might have read the last book, because it's looking familiar in the synopsis. But I remember it as not too long and I have no idea WHEN I read it. WHO KNOWS. I'm a mystery.

The fourth in the Forced to Serve series is as good as the first (The Demon Of Synar) and deserves 5 stars for the same reasons.

My only regret is that the next book has not yet been published. I am waiting in eager anticipation.
