The story of the dragontamer's daughters continues. After finding and tending a small, injured dragon, sisters Isabella and Alijandra try to keep "Pearl," as they call her, a secret. But others find out, and want Pearl-and her powers-for their own purposes. As time goes by, the girls learn more about those powers, and about Pearl. But time is running out for them, their family, and for Pearl herself. Soon, they will be forced to contend with the native people on whose lands they live. With the ambitious governor whose soldiers hunt the girls' father. With a man who has no name but wields immense, eerie powers. With Pearl's yearning to fulfill the journey that accidentally brought her to the girls. And with their own dreams and wishes for a life they once lived-and might live again.
Kenton Kilgore continues his wonderful tale of two sisters in a dystopian world and their “pet” dragon Pearl. The girls continue to try to keep Pearl a secret from those who would attempt to profit from the little dragon. Meanwhile, Pearl is healing from her injuries and becoming more difficult to hide. Will Isabella and Alijandra be able to keep Pearl safe? Will their father come back to them? What about Pearl’s journey that was interrupted by injury? Is it over?
The Dragon Tamer’s Daughters part 2: Stormcaller is a perfect read for younger readers, full of rich detail and colorful descriptions that bring the story to life, encouraging the reader to use their imagination as they read each page! This is young fantasy at its best, combining cultural native heritage and the fantasy of a live dragon to care for! I’d like to thank Kenton Kilgore for the opportunity to read, enjoy and review this book!
My opinion: This series just really made my heart happy and my mouth smile! I must say that I continue to love this little series targeted towards a pre-teen to early teen audience. What a wonderful, CLEAN and engrossing introduction this series is to the genre of dystopian literature. This author has done such a light, inviting and fun storyline with wonderful characters and supporting scenery which is done so vividly to encourage children to use their imaginations. That is one of the things that I have been loving about dystopian literature. In my humble opinion, this has been so lacking in contemporary literature targeted towards our youth and it was just what made my heart sing in reading this series.
I must admit to the reader of this review that this was a series I nearly passed on when I was asked to review it due to the genre it fit into and not knowing if there were specifics to reviewing this genre, I reviewed it as a parent looking at a book for a child.
The conclusion of the story started in Dragontamer's Daughters, Part 1: Pearl is just as well written and enjoyable as the first half. I continued to love the beautiful relationship between the sisters and their family members, as well as their growing friendship with the dragon Pearl. Learning more about the origins of the Pearl and how she was connected to the backstory of the world was interesting and I was not disappointed by the wrapping up of the family's storyline. This book as a whole is really enjoyable and is perfect for any young girl or boy who enjoys fantasy, though adults can certainly enjoy it too!
This is a great story! This book so completes Dragontamer's Daughters, Part 1: Pearl. All the characters are devloped and the story really moves. Great read for any age, but would be most well suited for middle school aged students. Would make a wonderful book for a class to read and discuss.
An engrossing fantasy series. The author takes the time to develop his characters beyond superfcial archetypes. The unusual setting and treatment of common fantasy themes (such as dragons) keep this a a refreshing read. I recommend the for preteens or teens tired of having Hunger Games and Twilight rip offs thrust at them.
