A new evil threatens to bring down legendary Dremlock Kingdom. With two famous Knights struck down, and fear and chaos running wild, Lannon finds himself involved in another bizarre mystery as the forces of the relentless Deep Shadow plot to assassinate the squire and his friends.
Can Lannon's Eye of Divinity see the truth of things before the mighty towers of Dremlock Kingdom are turned into rubble?
Robert E. Keller is a fantasy writer and the author of the Knights Series. Previously a short fiction writer with many published stories to his credit, he turned his attention to novels in 2011 and has never looked back.
Robert was born in Northern Michigan and still lives there with his wife Tracy. He had a very active imagination from the time he was old enough to become self aware, and he would invent elaborate fantasy and science fiction stories in his mind. It was only natural for him to begin spending much of his time crafting short stories and novels on the computer screen. Many of the ideas in those tales were discovered on long walks through the woods.
I really liked the first book, but this one not as much. The story is good with lots of action and the characters are interesting but the hero is such a wimp. In the first book it made since to me that he had fears and was unsure of himself, he was just a kid wanting to be a knight and unsure of the magic within him. But in this book even with all his training and learning how to use his magic he is still a wimp.
What? Huh? Transition?.......So much magical power but taken out by girl scouts?
In he middle of the story a new prince shows up, is given a super power, and thrown in the middle of the group. ( And let's just throw this guy in the story right here kind of cheap move) Then as the two main hero's are now surrounded by their protectors, in a camp on the way to the "deciding big battle of all battles", they are kicked in the butt, and one hero is kidnapped. So they couldn't protect themselves with all their powers they had from marauding girl scout like bears, even though they're marching to a big end to all end battles? Lost me there as a reader. I mean come on? How are they going to win a battle of all battles, when they can't win a small skirmish? Even with the new super character just now thrown in with his new.even more super power!?!?
An enjoyable book to read. There is plenty of adventure and the characters each have personality, which isn't something I can't always say! Lannon is the main person the story follows as a squire of the kingdom and possesses a special ability called the 'Eye of Divinity'. The main complaint I have is that he's a bit of a bleeding heart. He's training to be a blue knight (warriors who use any advantage to kill the enemy, including backstabbing and dirty fighting-it's their thing), but he doesn't like to fight. Other than that annoyance I don't have any complaints.
The fight scene are like a badly directed murder/mystery amateur venture into film. It's all so ridiculously long-winded, not to mention the silliness, predictability (like a bad cop movie) and is as unoriginal as describing elves as "fair of feature".
The stars I can give are too many and I gave 1 (=I don't like) What I want with this book is to be able to give a star that says you stupid author you ruined everything and you started out so promising I hate what you have done to this story.
It's safe to say I'm not a fan. Where the first book, Eye of Divinity was slowly paced this story has had it's legs remove, forearms lobbed off and has been told to crawl through treacle.
It's an OK read honestly, if tedious detail is your thing then this book goes for it wholeheartedly. Feel free to ignore all the massive holes in the story line, because you need to know exactly where everyone is facing at any given points individually.
And don't even get me started on how annoying the characters are, and by annoying I mean annoyingly shallow with a veneer of pretended depth.
I came to this book off the back of the first wanted to see where this battle went, get some intrigue and emotional back-stories thrown in discover the world more. This book doesn't give that. It gives vague summaries of back-stories, and moves on as if though everything is now clear, when nothing was explained.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I think the author has a good mind for story telling, however this is not a great book. In every story there needs to be a cause and effect, a gut check. Are the events that are unfolding plausible? I think this is where this book fails. It is like a series of events that have no depth. A series of inconsistencies that make what could be a great story difficult to engage in. The characters are not very well developed and it feels they are more observers in events than shapers of those events.
So it obviously didn't take me nearly as long to read this book as it did the last one. This book was by far better. It had more action and it didn't drag out as much. I am a little upset about the turn this book took. I can't help feeling that Lannon is partly responsible. I also have a new character that I hate the most. If you read this, you'll know exactly who I'm talking about. If you read the last one I think this one is worth reading. I can't help feeling uneasy about the ending. Hopefully the next one is just as good as this one.
I loved these two books! In fact I loved them so much that I am having my 10 year old son read them as part of his homeschooling. I love to hear him laughing and running in to say "Mommy, do you remember when...." It's a wonderful gift to be able to capture the imagination of children and adults alike.
Continuing onwards with the series, some characters grew and some went a bit. A decent enough follow up in this Knights series. The more I read of them the more they are beginning to feel like Young Adult fantasy. Very simple formulas that are executed entertainingly and offer excitement for those looking for such to fill their traditional fantasy desires.
I liked this installment better than the first book of the series but I wished there was more character development and more maturing in it since he's supposed to have been more practiced at this point. Its not fantastic but I still like the world the story takes place in.
