About the author

Vaikom Muhammad Basheer is regarded as one of the prominent literary figures ever existed in india. He was a legend in Kerala.

He was one of those outspoken figures who revolutionized Malayalam Literature, and Thus the World Literature itself with his dauntless sarcasm, satire, and black humor.

Often referred to as the Beypore Sultan (the king of Beypore) by the colleagues, he was one of the prominent figures behind the artistical, economical, and social reformation of the Kerala Culture.

His novel Shabdangal (The Voices) was once banned due to its echo that cyclonized a once feudalistic society.

He is also regarded as the translators nightmare. This is mainly because of the colloquial touch he added to his writings, which ethnically speaking would lose its humor and meaning when translated to other languages.

He was the sufi among the writers and and the greatest exponent of Gandhian Thought.

He was awarded with Padma Sri in 1982 for his overall contributions to nation as a freedom fighter, writer, and as a political activist.

With his usual wit and wisdom and local dialect, he will steal your heart through this book which was published more than eight decades ago.

One-line review: A book that gives you memories and leaves long-lasting impression.
This book authored by Vaikom Muhammed Basheer is just another milestone in the Malayalam literature. Loaded with seven short stories, the book is an example that, you don’t require a massive idea to break into the reader’s heart but all you need is a unique writing style. Day to day trivial situations in the author's life has been expressed in such a simple and realistic way that the reader just feels like he is with the author and seeing through the author’s eyes. I guess that’s why he is a legend among the Malayalam literalists. Every story has a witty nature, in-depth meaning and a moral that breaks the long-standing traditions and superstitions in Kerala. The stories range from the author’s childhood to the day he leaves to his new home. I have never seen such periodic diversity in stories, that are so engaging and humorous specially. I cannot tell you about the stories because it will be a spoiler then. But, I guarantee that any reader would enjoy each and every page of this book. A clean six out of the literature stadium!! Note: Stay clear of the crowd when you are reading this book cause you will laugh out loud any moment during the story.

നർമ്മത്തെ വെല്ലാൻ വൈക്കം മുഹമ്മദ് ബഷീറിന് അല്ലാതെ മറ്റാർക്കും ആർക്കും കഴിയില്ലെന്ന് തെളിയിക്കുന്ന മറ്റൊരു രചന. ആനയുടെ വാലിലെ രോമം പറിക്കാനുള്ള ഉദ്യമമാണ് കഥയുടെ ഇതിവൃത്തം. ഈ ലോകത്ത് ആർക്കും തന്നെ നീതിബോധം ഇല്ലെന്ന് വളരെ വ്യക്തമായി ഇതിൽ വരച്ചുകാട്ടുന്നുണ്ട്. തന്നെ ആരും പ്രസവിച്ചത് അല്ലെന്നും തനിയെ ഉണ്ടായതാണെന്നും വളരെ രസകരമായ രീതിയിൽ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. വായനക്കാരന്റെ മുഖത്ത് പുഞ്ചിരി വിരിയിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്ന നല്ല രചന.
