M.D. Grimm has wanted to write stories since second grade (kind of young to make life decisions, but whatever) and nothing has changed since then (well, plenty of things actually, but not that!).

Thankfully, she has indulgent parents who let her dream, but also made sure she understood she’d need a steady job to pay the bills (they never let her forget it!). After graduating from the University of Oregon and majoring in English, (let’s be honest: useless degree, what else was she going to do with it?) she started on her writing career and couldn’t be happier.

Working by day and writing by night (or any spare time she can carve out), she enjoys embarking on romantic quests and daring adventures (living vicariously, you could say) and creating characters that always triumph against the villain, (or else what’s the point?) finding their soul mate in the process.

The third novella in M.D. Grimm's "The Shifter" series is the my favorite so far -- and in my humble opinion, has the best plot yet. There are a few things that tip this story to my favor ...

1) A less than perfect character. Sure, Travis (the cougar shifter) is said to have a beautiful body; but he is blind. His blindness is a result from being tortured by anti-shifters organization, in which they burn his eyes with acid. I like character with physical flaw, it is something I always appreciate in a romance.

2) The relationship between Travis and Jack (the wolf shifter and the sherrif of Haven) is strong. Jack is devoted to Travis. Even if his pack has a tradition of not allowing wolves to mate with other shifters (yes, they're a little non-wolf phobic) but Jack is willing to fight for the chance to be with his mate.

There is this one scene, in which Travis pushes Jack away -- the usual "I can't let you do this, you will hate me if you defy your family because of me. I don't want you to give up everything because of me" hurrah. I have my worry that it will come down to the usual foolish I'm-not-worthy-of-your-love kind of separation. But nope, Jack doesn't give in, so that is solved really quick, and I like that.

3) There are more information regarding The Knights (the anti-shifters organization) and The Agency (the organization that helps and protect shifters). Agent Poe (from The Agency) first showed up in book #1 and The Knights plot was introduced in book #2. In this one the plot is expanded. I think it tightens the plot somehow, makes it more complicated than just usual paranormal romance. There is a serious threat to the shifters around the world. The epilogue hints that there are more to The Knights and The Agency than what the readers already know. I like the continuity.

I definitely will read the next book. I want to know more about the shifter's myth including Master Shifter, also the wolf that The Knights has been experimented with () ...

One of the things that has really struck me about 'The Shifter Chronicles' series by M.D. Grimm is the wide variety of plots and storylines in each successive book. There is nothing cookie cutter, although the Agency and its antithesis the Knights are a continuing theme and the author expands on each. In this volume, I was struck by the idea of a blind cougar shifter, particularly since he was tortured by the Knights, and revenge is foremost on his mind.

It's been six years since Travis made it to Haven, a refuge for shifters and humans that's practically impossible to locate in northern Montana. He's made a quiet life for himself, writing murder mysteries under a pseudonym and enjoying his new home. His thoughts of revenge have faded as he has found his home in Haven. He's friends with Jack, the sheriff, but is afraid to take it any further as Travis hasn't told anyone about his background or how he was blinded.

Oh yes. Much better. There’s a real sense of story and even world-building in this one and the overall quality is definitely going up.

That is not to say the writing style itself has improved much. However, because the storytelling aspect works so much better (pacing, plot – and reactions making more sense), I found it easier to ignore the problems.

Something else, though? So far every single volume in this series has been about guys who have been more or less friends for years, with both of them interested in each other but one leery of taking the risk of a relationship. While this eliminates some (not all) of the dreaded insta-love, it also makes me wish for a little more variation.

What I find very cool is how the author handles Jack’s pack. It would be so easy to dismiss them and scorn them for their benign racism. Instead recognizing their views as a stepping stone towards a broadening of those narrow minds makes for a significantly more poignant and satisfying solution. Things are not instantly perfect, either. I thought this aspect of the story was particularly well done.

In any event this now is emerging as a series, rather than individual stories connected by premise. I like it. Even the teasers about what’s still to come are quite tame and thus far do not take away from the current story.

More of love story in The Shifters world. This time pairing Haven's sheriff wolf-shifter and a blind cougar shifter. I loved how this two spent years getting close before blurting the ILU and those you-me-mates short of thing. The pack politics, as always, just... grrrr! Fortunately, there was shift and breakthrough in the tradition in the end.

What intrigued me was the presence of the Agency vs Knights felt more in this book. Not as much to make this story couldn't be read as standalone, though. But I definitely would read further books in this series! :)

This series is a bit unique compared to the usual shifter stories. This isn’t because the shifters are extravagant but the world they inhabit is. There’s outside forces like the Agency, which keeps shifters safe and keeps them from being outed to humans, and then there’s the Knights, who have a very real, very intense hatred for all kinds of shifters. There’s also the fact that there’s no chemical bonding shifters together; they mate when they fall in love and it’s as simple as that. I enjoy this series because it gives me the dose of paranormal I love and the uniqueness I crave.

This is the story of a blind cougar shifter, Travis, and the friendship he has with the town sheriff, Jack, who’s also part of the ruling wolf pack in town. Travis and Jack have been friends for years, ever since they met. The town, Haven, has been just as much a salvation to Travis as Jack’s constant presence is. While their feelings for each other constantly increase, they both know it’s not wise to start a relationship especially since Jack’s pack wouldn’t understand him taking a non-wolf shifter as a mate. Banishment is the possible outcome of acting on his desire for Travis but Jack’s not sure if he’s willing to risk it when he doesn’t even know if Travis feels the same. Each day Jack’s resolve to keep things platonic gets thinner and thinner, though, and when a spy for the Knights comes to town and threatens the peaceful existence of Haven, Travis’ past comes back to haunt him and Jack realizes his life is by Travis’ side. No matter what.

I’ve always had a soft spot for characters with disabilities. Travis being blind because the Knights made him blind is pretty heartbreaking but seeing the way he’s adjusted to his injury is amazing. There was no pity-party for Travis, he’s just resigned himself to the fact he’ll never be able to see. He’s filled with rage, though, because he lost his family to such a hateful organization. When he meets Jack, however, his rage is put on the back burner and he just tries to live his life in a new town.

I loved the interactions between Jack and Travis. They are good friends but Travis is grouchy sometimes and Jack still adores him. The connection and intensity between the two is very strong not just in human form but as shifters. Jack’s willing to give up everything for Travis once he knows Travis’s feelings are the same because they’ve managed to build a romance off their friendship. One thing I really loved about this book, though, was how Jack and Travis played together while shifted. It was so cute and I really enjoyed the scenes in their animal forms.

There were a few things I had a hard time with, though. Travis is completely blind in human form but as a cougar he can see outlines of shapes BUT there were bits and pieces of when he could see clearly as a cougar when the sun set. I didn’t understand how that was possible when it didn’t affect him unless he was looking at the sun at an exact moment. Beyond that, I wish there had been more information on Travis’s past, his family and how they were captured. I also felt like Jack’s family were a little too acceptable of their mating when they were so vehement that Jack was going to be banished after the threats were resolved.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. The characters and world are really interesting. The conflict was easy to follow and there’s still some suspense. We also get to know more about the Knights and there’s a very heartwarming fix to a certain issue that I’m not going to spoiler on but loved anyway. It ends in a bit of a cliffhanger, although, not technically but it feels like a set up for the next book. I’m really looking forward to reading the next one because things are starting to heat up between the Agency, the shifters and the Knights.

Note: While this book is the third in the series, so far they don’t seem to be related to anything other than by a minor character (an agency agent that plays a very, very small role in this book). Therefore, they may be read as standalones, if desired.

Blind Devotion is the third book in the Shifter series, it can be read as a stand-alone, which I did and while I missed some information, it was not relevant to my understanding of the story.

Travis, a now blind cougar shifter, watched his family being butchered by the Knights; he managed to escape but lost his sight. He came to the shifter town Haven in search of help and healing but decided to stay and let the past rest, he finds new friends and learns to live with his blindness. The reader just has the first scene on the bus and the information about Travis’s reasons for coming to Haven, and then it’s a six-year forward leap.

I have to say I really missed these six years, his adaptation into the town community happens in that time. Also, there is his relationship with the wolf shifter, Sheriff Jack, Travis’s friend and love interest. Their relationship happened in that time and the reader, gets that information in only a few short sentences.

While Travis and Jack try to take their relationship to the next level, they both know Jack’s pack will not approve of a non-wolf mate for Jack. Jack’s pack is pretty prejudiced about cross species relationships, at least that is what the reader is told and the way Jack’s brother reacts confirms that.

Travis and Jack might have encountered a lot more opposition if not for a threat to the town, by the people, that killed Travis parents - the Knights. One of their spies has come into town to gather information about shifters and the town security. The Knights have special abilities, like telepathy but they are not the only one. Jack’s father calls in the Agency, which protects shifters, and their members possess the same abilities as the Knights.

The fight, all the information about the Agency and the action-adventure story is interesting but I couldn’t connect to the characters. The writing is clean and the reader is told what happened, but I missed experiencing it. This is also because of those six missing years. We are told Travis and Jack love each other and yes they act protective of each other but I missed how their relationship happened, it was just there and that’s it. Those six missing years really makes the story fall short.

Travis is hurt by a group of hunters who hate shifters. He finds his way to Haven, a place where shifters can be safe. He is befriended by Jack, but resists anything more because he’s afraid to love again. He lost his entire family to the hunters and can’t risk that kind of emotion again.

Jack has been slowly falling for Travis, for years. But he can’t be with someone not a wolf shifter and still be in the pack’s good graces.

When danger comes to Haven, Travis and Jack are forced to admit their feelings and fight for their right to be together – both against the pack and their own worries.

**

This was a really sweet, slow burn love story. Though there is some danger and some struggle against the pack, most of this is the two of them getting to know one another and slowly growing from friends to lovers.

I love that their pull is as strong as any “True Mate” type attraction, though that isn’t the case. I also loved the magicky stuff the Agency people add to the mix.

I really appreciated the slow pace and easy love in this story and am excited to read the sequel! (I haven’t read books one and two but will absolutely do that now, the continuing saga with the Agency and the Knights is very compelling.)

This is probably my favorite couple yet of this series. Jack is the sheriff of the town Haven (a secret shifter town in Montana) and a wolf shifter in a prejudice pack. He's been crushing on a somewhat new man in town for the last 6 years. The thing of it is though is that this new guy is a cougar shifter. Jack knows his pack will never accept him.

Travis, a cougar shifter, ended up in Haven 6 years ago because he was kidnapped and experimented on by The Knights. His family was slaughtered and he was blinded by them, although he managed to escape.

Travis and Jack are great friends, but they've been secretly in love with each other for years. Just when they decide to take it a step further a member of The Knights enters Haven which has Travis terrified, but he will NOT let another person he loves die.

Jack and Travis are devoted to each other and it's actually beautiful. But, will that devotion be enough to stop the infiltrator and keep the town of Haven safe from The Knights?

The ending.. WOW!!!!!!

4.5 stars Right of the book gets you feeling Travis as he runs for his life from horrible memory of what was his family. This is a third book of the series and the beginnings are always good do far.. Scenes play out and Trixie tries to help him in his young cougar form at the age of 16 years. Includes time jumps forward to Jack now being sheriff. The book is never boring as Jack and Travis discover their love. Drama's scenes and tricky are in play as they fight to keep there little Haven safe for all. I loved the ending of this as I was hoppin things ended well..yah no spoilers but Travis plays hero.

Travis is now a blind cougar shifter alone without a family on the run. He needed to get to a place called Haven.
Jack was the son of the sheriff of Haven and his time would come for his turn.

I enjoyed this story more than the previous stories. I think the friendship between Travis and Jack had a real sweetness to it. Although we don't get to see much of the build-up of the friendship, there are the ways that they interact with each other that helps show how connected they have become. I'm hoping we'll see more of the Agency in future stories as I think they are an interesting element to the world-building, but we're still only getting glimpses of what they are doing.

Another fun adventure in Grimm's shifter series! I'm hooked on these books. Gay shifters, murder, intrigue, secret fae societies battling for good and evil, romance, and yeah, a healthy dose of steamy sex! With this book, we get more insight into the inner workings of The Agency and The Knights, and now I can't wait to read the next one!

What can I say about Jack & Travis?

Jack, a cougar shifter, lost his family to the Knights - an organization who hates shifters and is after them (kill them all, 'cause they're evil monsters kinda thing). Jack managed to escape before he ended up dead as well, sadly he lost his eye sight during their horrible experimenting. Determined to get revenge, Jack eventually made his way to a small town somewhere in the middle of nowhere, where shifters and humans are living together in peace and harmony. Haven is a sacred place and not many know about its existence or whereabouts.

Despite his loss and anger, Jack finds everything he needed to keep on living in Haven - peace and a new place where he belonged. And a friend. Travis, a wolf shifter, is the Sheriff of Haven and for seven years a good friend to Jack. He's seriously intrigued by the cougar shifter, but his 'moves' aren't really getting anywhere....

Jack no longer felt the need to start a war against the shifter-hating-mob kinda people who ruined his life, and just wants to live in peace, until a stranger comes into town and all his alarms go off.

The Knights are invading little peaceful Haven and maybe they do need a war after all..?

----
I think this was a really nice read. Maybe nothing that will blow your mind, but the story was quite more than I expected.

I liked both MC, we do get both POV's - plus shockingly another few POV's from other people that in my opinion wasn't necessary. It was kinda nice to see it take more form but I personally don't really care about multiple POV's much, and here I thought it wasn't really want I wanted. Also I think there was an overuse on the word "cougar shifter/wolf shifter", I personally thought it rather odd to say things like, "he really liked the cougar shifter" - it was used just a little too often, just say their name, please =D

Anyhow, there were a lot of sweet little bits and pieces, some funny - some extremely sexy. While the romance between Jack and Travis was not that deep or the "sweetest" until a long while, I really enjoyed their sex a lot=D

I liked it the most when they were playing around in their cougar and wolf form, it was real sweet and definitely my highlight =D he he

3.5* Review written for Love Bytes Reviews.

There’s just something really appealing about this series; the plots may not be overly complicated, but I enjoy the characters and how each story builds upon the ones previous to it. In this one, you have Travis, a young man who was captured and forced to watch as his family was killed before being blinded himself and Jack, the Sheriff and close friend of Travis’ who would very much like to be more. Both men are attracted to one another but each is afraid to take that next step for various reasons.

I adored Travis; he’s come so far from that scared, angry kid out for revenge that didn’t want help from anyone to the friendly, settled man he is now. Despite his disability, he’s made a life for himself that he’s happy with and he’s not afraid to fight to keep it. I thought that he and Jack were well matched; Jack didn’t care that Travis was blind and he’d never felt pity for him or thought he couldn’t handle himself. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing these two men stand together against everyone and everything else and watching as other people finally realized he was more than just his disability was immensely satisfying. The only thing I raised an eyebrow at was how these two men finally got together; I expected dating (or at least some heavy petting) before hand but I think I was about as surprised as Travis was. Lol

The overall story was enjoyable and I loved getting to see the Agency again; it was also nice to have Haven brought into things as it had been mentioned previously. There was also the introduction of the Master Shifters that I hope comes up more in the future. The ending was of particular interest to me, however, as it referenced events that took place in the first book and I’m really looking forward to how that plays out in upcoming stories. I liked this one and am looking forward to continuing the series and if you enjoy shifter stories and are looking for a series without a ton of angst, I’d recommend checking this one out.

Originally reviewed for The Book Vixen

In a Nutshell: Good MM shifter romance with a balance between sex and story that is too rare in the genre.

The Set Up: Six years ago Travis was blinded by the Knights, a shifter-hate group who killed his family. He lives quietly in a shifter town, Haven, where he’s built a friendship with the wolf-shifter sheriff, Jack. Now Jack wants their relationship to turn intimate but his wolf pack wouldn’t tolerate a cougar shifter as his mate. When a dangerous spy infiltrates Haven, Jack and Travis will have to combine strengths to keep the town safe.

Why I Read this Book: The cover caught my attention and I’m a sucker for MM shifter romances.

What I Liked: I like that Travis and Jack have been friends for six years before becoming a couple. Their friendship is the basis for their love and this makes it a good romance in my opinion. Too often in MM shifter romances the sex is the reason the men are together but that isn’t the case here. As a reader I could see why Travis and Jack treasure each other and want to become life partners. The sex doesn’t dominate the romance but becomes the physical manifestation of their feelings and this makes theirs a strong romance for me.

What I Also Liked: This novella is perfect length for both the plot and the romance. I would have been irritated if the tension involving Jack’s pack’s acceptance of Travis was any longer. As it was, this provided good tension for the romance but didn’t drag. The plot involving the Knights’ spy was perfectly paced and kept my attention so much so that I’ll read the others books in this series. I also liked that though a shorter novella, it still introduced great secondary characters who I can’t wait to read more about, especially the mysterious ancient bear-shifter, Nordik.

What I Didn’t Like: Nothing, this is a strong novella I enjoyed.

IMO: This is an above average MM shifter romance I recommend for fans of the genre like I am.

This book has a slightly different twist using the shifter plot line. The main characters are Jack the sheriff and Travis a writer. Their relationship has grown over time and both are reluctant to act on the attraction. The book takes place in Haven, Montana. Haven is a haven for several species of shifters and a few humans who know their secret. Various species of shifters living in harmony sounds good... well apparently even prejudice, mistrust, misconceptions and judgement can abound even in Haven. (Like real life .... depressing.)

Travis is a cougar shifter and Jack is a wolf. Jack's family and pack isn't happy that he has chosen Travis as a mate. The wolf pack still feels that they are the superior species and aren't ready for inter-species dating or mating. It takes some evil forces from outside the town who not only threaten the inhabitants way of life but also their very lives for the wolf pack to change their mind. It is nice to know that love does conquer all.

This is the first book in this series that I have read. The world the writer created is intriguing enough to warrant another cyber trip to the library for additional books in the series.

Travis has spent time wanting revenge or trying to forget he saw his whole family tortured and then murdered before his sight was taken from him, all because he and his family were cougar shifters. After escaping from those that held him captive, Travis made his was to Haven, to seek help in getting revenge for his family. Ten years later he still hasn't gotten around to asking for the help, but when trouble comes to town, he will do anything to stop it.

Jack was the first person to find Travis and offer him safety, they have been friends ever since, even though Jack would like it to be more. When Travis comes to him and finally tells him what caused him to go blind, Jack is willing to do anything even give up his family to keep Travis in his life.

This was a cute book, even though its book three and I haven't read any of the other ones in the series, I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything by not reading them in order.

There are 5 parts to the overall story and only 2 ( The Beginning and Scrolls) are out so far, which include 12 books - about 20 books will be in the total (see author's website for complete listing).

I have read them 2x now as more books have come out. Each book has it's own story but there is a back story that threads throughout them - I will wait until all the parts come out now to be able to complete the overall story before reading again.

Also, the next time I read the series, I will read it in chronological order of the stories, not in the order they were written. You can do either, but the books from earlier times tell the deeper underlining story of the scrolls, which is what keeps the series going since each book has it's own HEA.

Even though this is book three in a series that I haven't read before, it didn't seem to matter. The story stood up very well on it's own and was very interesting. The two main characters are different shifters that aren't supposed to want to be together. One being a wolf and the other a blind cougar shifter. Yet somehow the author has made their love story interesting and added a dash of suspense by having psychics as the enemy of the shifters (and the cause of the cougars blindness). There was added tension by having the Wolf pack being very steeped in traditions that won't accept change very easily. I really liked this story and recommend it to any fans of the Shifter Genre.

This third book in series "The Shifters" is enjoyable enough, but easily forgettable. I liked Travis, his past was really brutal, but then I wished his first 6 years of living in Heaven would be part of the story. I don't enjoy how M.D. Grimm writes. Mostly we are only informed about some actions and aren't part of it, which makes the whole storyline reserved and cold.

Reviewed for Prism Book Alliance

Blind Devotion is the 3rd full installment in MD Grimm's Shifters series. In this volume, we finally start to get into the meat of the Agency/Knight rivalry. We also examine fear of the unknown, discrimination, and stereotyping.

This book was an awesome addition to a really cool series. I love that Travis, the cougar shifter was blind. I think it is very refreshing when authors go outside the norm with main characters. I have already read the next story and i hope the author comes out with more.

I continue to enjoy this series and I think each new book is better than the last. Fun shifters, an interesting continuing conflict and plot, and interesting characters and dynamics. Can't wait to read more!

good story line but too verbose with not much coherence. continuity disruptions all over the place! This is the first I've read by the author, but the third in her series. I'm hoping the others are better

I really liked this book! It's my favorite in the series so far. It was nice to read more about the Knights and the Agency, and I liked the POVs from multiple characters. I look forward to reading the next one.
