'Hello Mr Aston. You're going to feel a little strange for a while.'
Imagine being woken up by someone battering your front door. When you answer, you are confronted by armed police, and arrested for attempted murder. You know you didn't do it, but you can't quite remember last night... So begins the nightmare for Michael Aston.
Wrap Time is a brilliantly conceived dystopian SF thriller that will take you from the inner turmoil of the heart to the edges of the multiverse and back.
In a world of super-high-technology, all that matters is Wrap Time.
This is the story of Michael Aston. He is awoken one morning by thunderous banging on his door. It is the police arresting him for an attempted murder he has no recollection of committing. He is taken to the cells, and there he blacks out, only to wake up in his bed to thunderous banging on the door. He finds himself stuck in a sort of ground-hog day. Can he solve the mystery or is he doomed to be arrested again and again?
I rather enjoyed this short novella. It was well-written and the characters were well rounded. The struggle that Michael went through as he tried to piece together what was happening to him was tragic. I thought the idea of leaving himself notes along the way was a clever one. This was a great idea, skilfully executed, with plenty of twists and turns to the satisfying ending.
This first thing that I want to say is that I wish this story was longer. It was really well written and quite the intriguing read. Each section was like it's own little shorter story and would hold some ground by itself, but all pieced together the way it was kept things interesting...you never knew what was coming next! I was so into it that when I noticed there was just a small percentage of the book left I was a little upset. That being said, it wrapped up really nicely and worked very well as a short. Being the length of a movie and as well written as it was, I can't come up with any reason for anyone not to read this!
Wow, a really different read-a little like a futuristic and sadistic version of Groundhog Day. Twisting, compelling, disturbing-well written and intriguing.
a very intriguing and fun read, quite different to the normal stories out there. really did need to be longer as left you wanting more. shall be looking at other books by this author.
