Gordon Force only had two weeks to go on his job. He was going to be working with his brother Dallas in keeping their alpha safe. But he had a favor to fulfill, a shop to visit and only a question or two to ask. He never expected four kids, two goofy aunts and his mate to walk into his life.
Alexis Dark was hiding. Her brother-in-law was a real piece of work and she knew he’d killed his wife, her sister. But no one wanted to believe that he had done it. The marks on the body were too consistent with that of an animal not a human they’d told her. Well she knew better.
When Gordon went to her house to speak to her again she met him at her door smelling like soap, shampoo and oh so lovely sex.
She closed her eyes to the almost purr of his voice. It was hypnotic and the most soothing thing she’d ever heard in her life. When she found herself pressed against him she looked up into his eyes suddenly very afraid and very needy.
“Don’t,” she said as he lowered his head to hers. “Please, don’t.”
“Too late.” He brushed his mouth over hers once then pulled back to look at her again. “Christ, it’s you.” This time when he took her mouth, it was to devour her.

There is something different about Alexis Dark and it is not just that she is Gordon Force's mate. Gordon is trying to wrap his head around the fact that he found his mate and that she is the guardian over three children and two quirky aunts. Gordon figured he could declare his intention and all would be set in motion but Alexis has been hiding a secret for so long she isn't sure she can trust Gordon.
I liked this one, thought the mystery surrounding Alexis was intriguing and liked that Gordon makes an idiot of himself and it is not just smooth sailings. Had a few unexpected twists and looking forward to more. Got to get a better sense of some of the other brothers too which adds anticipation for their stories.
'Force of the Dark Wolf' is the second book in Kathi S. Baton's "Force of Nature" series and it's as fast-paced as the first book was. I read the blurb and was tickled over the kids and crazy aunts being mentioned but there's a lot of dark in this book so don't set your sights on light and comical. Werewolves, Vampires, rumors of Witches, and the last known pureblood shifter who can change into any animal at will, all fill the pages and make this an exciting adventure. The chemistry is off the chain between Gordon and Alexis but as we found out in the first book the sexual chemistry doesn't always give them a lot of common sense, especially where the Force men are concerned. Thank goodness for strong female characters that can keep things on track.
Kathi does it again not as good as the first in the series but still an excellent story she holds you from the very first page and doesn't let you go and the heroine is a force to be reckoned with I sure wouldn't want to tangle with her
3.5 stars. Enjoyable but it is just missing something. A good story with great action but as much as I am enjoying this series, there is just something that is jarring about it. Liked Alexis and how she was special. The fact that they seem to have sex at the most inappropriate times blows my mind. Also the men all seem to be idiots where their mates are concerned. One big stupidity that I just couldn’t understand was why Gordon kept pushing Alexis up against walls etc, wanting to make love to her when she had just been beaten near to death. She gets out of the wheelchair and he is practically humping her waiting for the car to come. Too silly for belief as she never hurt or winced in pain. Though this is explained later on as to why she wasn’t hurting, Gordon didn’t know this at the time. Paddy, the baddie is a complete basket but is over portrayed to me, if he keeps killing everyone around him he will have no one left. The main baddie was pathetic. The ending felt rushed to me and not everything was tidied up to my satisfaction. Nothing was said about Aunt Gladys at the end. Was she just senile. I will read the next book as I love Phil and want to see with happens with Holly.
I really like the stories and the characters but I don't like the writing style and I had some difficulties with the time line and the way the stories progressed. Also because the stories seemed to ramble a bit I often had trouble keeping up with with who was speaking and had to often stop to reread to place the part of the story in perspective
I honestly loved every page of this story. It should probably come as no surprise to anyone who follows my reviews that I am a huge fan of Kathi S Barton
In true Kathi Barton style, Force of the Dark Wolf worms its way into your heart. I realize that this story has a lot going on in it and it does jump around but, if you keep reading, you will get your answers. You might want to read the books in order because you will continue learning about the characters in each consecutive book. With that being said......I think Gordon is a typical male. He wants what he wants and he will have it, er, um her. Alexis is her own woman and she does fine on her own, to a point. She does have some secrets, but Gordon is strong enough to accept them, if he can learn to think before he speaks. Alexis also comes with a ready made family and Gordon will have to win these kids over and gain their trust for this to work. We get our favorites back, Phil, C.J. and Austin play into the story as well as some new characters that I believe we will be seeing in later books. Get your Force on.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
After all the ribbing that was given to their brother the alpha, Gordon should have known he was in for just as interesting a ride. Who would have thought doing a favor for CJ would have him meeting his mate and gaining a ready made family. Alexis has been hiding her family from danger and does not trust the sexy wolf who wants to take over her life. Two strong characters bound by fate will have to fight betrayal and themselves to keep everyone safe. Wonderful characters keep all Ms. Barton's books entertaining and engaging. Danger, heartache, soul searching and compromise come together to keep you glued to the pages as you rush to find out what happens. If you don't leave enough time to finish Ms. Baton's stories in one sitting you will be wishing you did as it is hard to stop in the middle of her tales.
What was there not to love in this book. It was intriguing, sexy, suspenseful and just perfect for the second book in a truly fantastic series. It's now Gordon's turn to meet his mate and what a mate she is. Alexis is a woman with tremendous power who does everything she can to protect her sister's children from their father. It never fails that when you're not looking for a mate you stumble upon them. This was a magnificent read from start to finish. You see some of the previous characters that you met in book one and new characters that you hope to see in future books.
I liked this one at least as much as the first book in the series. Loved the heroine. Kathi Barton is great at making strong yet caring heroines who can save their own bacon. Gordon is almost as good at sticking his foot in his mouth as his brother Austin was in the first book. The plot of this book is actually more intriguing than the first book. The kids add to the story rather than detracting.
This is another amazing book from the creative imagination of Kathi S. Barton. It moved along at an awesome pace, had characters that you want to see succeed no matter what gets in their way and an awesome story that you just cannot stop reading.
Kathi S. Barton is an amazing author whose books never let me down.
3.5 I liked all the character interaction. It was like they had their own lil paranormal " friends" world only instead of all the comedy they threatened each other with friendly bodily harm. Kudos to the book cover and Gordan's yummy were ass. I did however find myself skipping some of the sex scenes. Something about them felt too much. It's shocking that I would feel this way!
book was ok, but it was hard to follow at times. it seemed like parts were missing - just skipped over and the scenes seemed to change too abruptly to follow really well.
