Spite Island

Rate this book
SPITE ISLANDThere's an island up in Gold Country at the northern end of Snapdragon Lake. It's named Manchester for the family that owns it, but the locals call it Spite Island. There's a single lonely mansion on that island and a group of authors have been invited to write about its ghosts and its mysteries. But the real mystery is, who will survive this luxurious but deadly retreat?

A CURSED ISLANDCody Manchester, grandson of Spite House mistress, Agnes Manchester, has avoided Spite Island since he was a boy. Something horrible happened back then that he can’t recall -- but now he’s returned, determined to exorcise his childhood fears once and for all. With the help of writer Paige Allen, he’s discovering things about his family that will change him forever.

Meanwhile, entranced by the nightly storytelling, the other guests are eager to encounter the ghosts that walk the halls of Spite House -- at least until the manifestations begin. Sometimes getting what you wish for can be deadly.

Hurrying to explore the island before they’re trapped inside the shadow-filled mansion by the coming storm, they soon learn that what lurks outside is even hungrier than what waits for them within the walls of Spite House.

PRAISE FOR THE SPITE HOUSE CHRONICLES“Thorne & Cross weave such delicious nightmares that you almost forget to be afraid. Almost. SPITE HOUSE may be their most terrifying delight yet.” -- Peter Atkins, Author of All Our Hearts are Ghosts, and Screenwriter of Hellraiser II-IV

“What I always love … is that their glee is so apparent, their sheer joy of scaring the crap out of people … With SPITE HOUSE, I’m happily back in Tamara and Alistair Land once more.” -- Glen Hirshberg, author of Infinity Dreams and The Two Sams

“As I raced through the pages of SPITE HOUSE, the first book in the trilogy, I realized that this is much more than a ghost story. Spite House itself brings to mind a predator with sharp talons that sink deeply into the flesh of the island and draw blood. My thoughts for those visitors? Get out while you still can. I can’t wait for book two!” -- QL Pearce, author of Spine Chillers and Scary Stories for Sleepovers

Format: audiobook
Narrator: Jamison Walker

This is book 2 in this series but the first I’ve read but there were no holes that made me think I was missing any significant information although I may now go back and read book 1 just for the background and build up to this book.
There’s definitely some sinister going ons at the Manchester’s estate, not regular ghosts but something far more malevolent.

If you like audio books this one is worth a listen, the narrator does a fantastic job, just the right amount of spooky to his delivery.

This novel was horrible.

The first in the series was absolutely amazing, but this was just painful.

It wasn't horror so much as horrific. It certainly horrified, but not in the spooky scary way, rather in the fact that it's simply just a horrific tale of abuse in the worst possible way.

The fun of the first novel is gone.

It doesn't leave you scared or entertained, just profoundly sad.

This 2nd book gets deeper into the people and history of Spite House and the people who reside there. The Island history goes back to the indigenous people who lived in the area and avoided the island because of the melevenous sports there. Narrator does a really good job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline.
