Driven to distraction by the redhead across the room, Anthony Benson barely hears the terms of his brother’s challenge before agreeing to them.

No matter. It will be easy. Viscount Maddox has never had any problem impressing the ladies. And four weeks is more than enough time to win over this so obviously neglected wallflower.

But things are never as easy as they seem.

The lady has lofty aspirations. And not one of them includes love or marriage. Especially not with an arrogant and self-assured playboy like the viscount. No matter how attractive he may be.

I think I liked the first book, Waltzing with the Wallflower, a little bit more. Which is surprising since I liked Anothny's character quite a bit in the first book. He was so different in this book, I kind of missed the swauve rake. He instead has fallen in love which has the effect of turning him into someone who is quite clumsy and always putting his foot in his mouth. I liked Bridget okay, she's your typical regency "blue stocking" who has bigger dreams then becoming a wife. They do have nice chemistry together and overall their story was nice. There is one instance where they are caught in a compromising position, only the person who catches them mistakes Bridget for someone else. I didn't really care for that storyline and thought it was drawn out a little too long. Not my kind of humor I guess. Overall, it was okay, probably would have been better in this case not to read the stories back to back.

Content: Kisses and innuendo.

Bridget was fun and had a strong sense of character making her intriguing as a woman during that time period. Her Bluestocking nature led her to be more independent and not just a husband hunter. Anthony’s character was more appealing in the first book with his rakish character whereas in this second book the issue of falling in love has left him awkward and clumsy to be around.

The plot as a whole needed a good summary edit. It was a little too drawn out and seemed stretched in places.

Bridget wanted nothing more than to be left alone. She was being forced to has a season on the "marriage market" by her grandmother who wanted her married quickly. Bridget had absolutely zero desire to marry ever. Her father had abandoned her mother and she knew all men were unworthy of trust. She would avoid the pain her mother had endured at all costs.
Handsome, rich, titled, take Anthony was in the receiving end of his twin and wager that Anthony could get Bridget to fall in love with him in four weeks. He was just that adorable.
Bridget was equally determined not to be impressed by the gorgeous man. The game was on with both sides trying to win their own way.

I love to laugh so this book was a perfect read during a stressful time. I laughed and laughed and thoroughly enjoyed the antics of Anthony and how the story developed. The romance that blossomed between Anthony and Bridget is sweet. If you have read the previous book in this series, Waltzing with the Wallflower, you will definitely appreciate the plot and storyline but this book can be read as a standalone. Unlike the previous entry that is more of a short story, this is a novella and it captured my interest. Twin bothers, challenges and lots of prat falls - what could be better? A very entertaining and humorous read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A classic historical romance with a playful twist, featuring a charming and confident viscount tasked with winning over a guarded wallflower. The story balances witty banter and slow-burning attraction with themes of independence and unexpected vulnerability. A sweet, lighthearted read for fans of period romance with a modern sensibility.

Beguiling Bridget picks up where Waltzing With The Wallflower leaves off, with Ambrose having married Cordelia, and focuses on Ambrose’s twin brother Anthony. He finds himself on the receiving end of the same bet that led to Ambrose and Cordelia’s marriage: to make a woman of his brother’s choosing fall in love with him four weeks. Ambrose picks Lady Bridget, who is avoiding social interactions at all costs. Lady Bridget does her best to avoid Anthony’s advances, but as they are forced to spend more and more time together, she finds it increasingly difficult to resist his rakish charm.

Bridget was a great leading lady, being totally uninterested in finding herself a husband and taking part in the normal activities of the social circles she is part of. She is unafraid of making life difficult for her pursuer and has the confidence to do what she wants. The one thing that disappointed me about Bridget is that we didn’t get to see more of her backstory; there is a brief explanation of her attitude towards men and society, but more detail would have made her an even more well-rounded character.

Anthony felt very familiar, as his character was written very similarly to Ambrose (the focus of Waltzing With The Wallflower). The switch from womanizer to hardcore romantic happened in much the same way it had in the first book, but the charming nature of the transition meant that I didn’t ever feel that it was repetitive or over-done – much of this is down to Rachel van Dyken‘s talent with words, plot and characterisation. The relationship between the two protagonists is what makes this sequel different to Waltzing With The Wallflower – van Dyken manages to take the same story and make it feel fresh by creating a different kind of relationship between the romantic leads.

The story was an easy read an a great way to ease back in to my reading stride after a while away. I always look forward to reading Rachel van Dyken‘s books because I know that I’m always going to enjoy them. Long may she continue writing, and on to the next I go.

Review:

"Beguiling Bridget" was a second book in a series for these two authors which continues on from 'Waltzing with Wallflowers Regency Series.' I think you will get a little more out of this novel if you have read the first one where in this novel you will get a good entertaining and humorous feel of "Beguiling Bridget." We find that since Cordelia and Ambrose are now married...Anthony doesn't even realize that he has 'he agrees to a bet (and strawberries) that may mean the death of him.' Bridget is a spitfire who distrust all men and promises never to wed. Do we find the heroine fencing for their suitors? Well now things will change when the other twin, Anthony comes on the scene and bumbled his way into Bridget's heart. I found this novel humorous and the characterizations were well developed making "Beguiling Bridget" a intriguing read.

I thought "Beguiling Bridget" was well written short sweet romance novel that kept my attention till the end that I would recommend as a good read.

This was another hilarious installment of the Waltzing with the wallflower series. I didn’t care too much for Bridget the heroine as I did the heroines in the other books. I looked so forward to reading Anthony’s story as I knew it would be a blast but oh no, Bridget the Bitch ruined it for me. It’s okay to have a feisty heroine but to an extent, you make her too feisty and standoffish then it becomes annoying and hard to believe that she would fall in love with him after a short time….IMO.

But I just loved Anthony charming self. I thought the scene with Anthony helping Wilde learn how to kiss a woman was freaking delightful. Funniest thing ever. Also, when everyone continued to mishear him when he said “help” and they would say “kelp” lmbo. I can’t wait to read Wilde’s adventure with his wallflower.

Anthony Benson, twin to Ambrose Benson, is fascinated by the redhair across the room. So much so that he ended up accepting a bet without first registering it: Make her fall in love with him within four weeks! But when strawberries come into play, a certain Viscount finds that he may have been well over his head.

Lady Bridget is the type of female lead I love. Strong-headed with her own mind and aspirations, she goes head to head with Anthony and with that, her heart as well.

The interactions between the brothers and Wilde, their best friend, is one of the best I've read. Bridget is very intellectual and Anthony becomes the flustered one instead. Very refreshing indeed.

This time the main character Bridget is not like the other wallflower in the previous book. She is not shy but she stays by the wall mostly to not be bothered. She is not afraid to turn anyone down. I was happy that the hero was the other twin named Anthony. This is another nice quick book to read.
I give it 3*stars.

Beguiling Bridget begins where Waltzing With the Wallflower ends with Ambrose and Cordelia married. Anthony is distracted and doesn't realize that he agrees to a bet that may mean the death of him. Where he is charming, Bridget is a strong character and doesn't want anything to do with him. Until she falls for him. Another great book from Rachel Van Dyken. Can't wait for Taming Wilde.

I absolutely loved the character Bridget in this book, she was such a strong character, and it benefitted the book greatly. She had some definite spunk and attitude for someone in that era, and she had such a temper! She also was a huge women's rights promoter, and at the beginning was not willing to give her heart away to any dictating man. That changed when Anthony came along ;)

Hard to say still. Maybe 3.8

I loved Waltzing with the Wallflower. LOVED! So I was UBER excited to read the full lenght book two. While I liked Bridget alright (smart and a fencer, I am on board) I really felt that Anthony was changed so much from the 1st one. He lost the real interesting parts of him, and I really missed that.

This was a good second book and although it was longer (which was nice), Bridget made this one difficult to enjoy more. She was feisty, but we already loved Anthony, so it was hard to be on her side while she was quite horrible. Overall it fits with he short series and I did enjoy it, so it gets a 3.5

Very fun, flirtatious, regency read. I just loved the banter between Bridget & Anthony. If it was a little bit cleaner, it would have been a 5 star for me.

Moral Note: A few "gosh's". Some talk of rakes& mistresses, and some very passionate kissing.

Totally enjoyable

Loved this book. Lots of humour. The dialogue was delicious and very entertaining. A few typos but not sufficient to distract from the story. The characters were highly likeable… they were multi-faceted and well developed. Great read.

Witty conversations. There is certainly chemistry going on. However I found Anthony a bit too different when compared to the 1st book. Expected him to be more suave and less clumsy.
