Money isn't everything...

In the astonishing follow-up to Agents of Change, the Agencies of Influence and Justice have been effectively rendered powerless, and the world, for the time being, is safe. While this turn of events remains unbeknownst to the human race, the agencies are none too happy about it. Left as the only soul imbued with the Arrowhead of the Seminole’s power, Calvin Newsome has paid a heavy price for his heroics, but knows not of true suffering until now.

Under the direction of their executive directors, each agency has hired separate, highly-trained bounty hunters to run a high-stakes race to capture Calvin, now an elusive yet impaired target. While one of those mercenaries is familiar to him, the other is not, and each has their own secret agenda, proving that money isn’t everything.

As he attempts to return to a state of normalcy, Calvin must utilize his abilities to evade both bounty hunters while further staving off global devastation and saving those closest to him. Unfortunately, each destructive encounter raises Calvin’s profile as a domestic terrorist while a lurking, more shocking danger threatens to bury him and the world that sits tenuously upon his shoulders.

This is a far better book than the first in the trilogy and some things that I didn’t like with book 1, have been developed in book 2. The tone of the main character, Calvin Newsome, is better for me. I’m not sure if it was deliberate to make him seem younger in the first book, but he reads more age appropriate in Book 2 for a late twenty something. In the first book, he was a bit erratic and not as likeable as he should have been. In the second, you are definitely rooting for him more.

There is a lot of action in this book and the author knows how to write it. But the problem with this, as is equally the case with not enough action, is that you start to skip over scenes. The tension/action is present all the time and as a reader, I was offered very little chance to catch my breath. The scenes that did slow down to focus on character interaction felt rushed and seemed unimportant to the overall story. It’s during those quieter moments that you clarify points you want the reader to remember. Because it was rushed, I missed key elements of the story that the author wanted me to know.

Having said all that, this book deserves four stars because of the quality of the story. The amount of action is a personal thing. Some readers can’t get enough of it. It was just too much for me.

There’s a line from one of my favourite movies, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. He says ‘Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in a while, you might miss it.’ Same goes for story development, I feel.

The story basically leaves off from the end of Agents Of Change. There is SO much more action going on throughout this whole book. I find the book to be very entertaining and humorous at parts, because some of it hits close to home. I completely get the whole Alligator Alley part. That is the wrong area to be passed out in!

“But New Orleans is far from relaxing … unless the thought of partying around the clock relaxes you.” Haha! I grew up in New Orleans and lived there up until Hurricane Katrina kicked me out. It is definitely a party town. It is considered to be a laid-back city, but that’s not meant in a relaxing sense. And all of the shops there are small hole-in-the-wall type of places with beignet shops, gumbo shops, and voodoo shops on every one-way street corner.

“Actually , dude was impaled with an expertly-thrown knife, not stabbed. But you can’t believe everything you hear on the news.” I work in the media, so it made me laugh so much because of how true it is.

Once I finished reading Agents Of Chaos, the obvious question that comes to mind is who will Calvin Newsome end up with? There are three women after him, Ronnie, Elena, and Ashley/Astrid. “…if he had stared at Elena any longer, I’d have punched his lights out.” I know who I want for him to end up with. I love this book more than the first. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Wow. I just finished reading this book and I am speechless. Yet again Guy Harrison was able to create a book that was full of suspense and many plot twists. Being an avid reader of suspense and thrillers, I am fairly good at predicting some of these twists, but there was one in particular that caught me completely off guard. Unfortunately for the purpose of not spoiling this book, I can’t give it away. I guess you all are just going to have to read it to find out what it is.

There were many great action scenes in this book and it was fantastic that things slowed down slightly in order for the reader to digest the chaos that is truly ensuing (no pun intended). I also loved how the different perspectives were written for the same scene so there really is that overall understanding of literally everything that is happening. This made the fight scenes even more enjoyable.

Even though the book mainly focuses on Calvin, the personal stories of other characters help reinforce how many people are truly involved in this giant struggle and what they are sacrificing. I also enjoyed the parts of the book were the reader really gets to see the personal qualities of the characters. It made these characters more relatable and reinforced the fact that they are just that: people.

The spring of 2013 seems like a long way away, but it’ll be worth the wait to get my hands on the next book Agents of Destiny.

First off, I got this book through Goodreads FirstReads. Thanks to Guy Harrison and Goodreads for the opportunity.

Well, this book is appropriately named. Oh the chaos! Main characters get all tied up in countless events. Life or death matters, too. This book is twisted, but in a good way. Things are happening all over the place. People are being chased and nearly killed throughout the whole story. There are a lot of surprise moments which I really like. Love even comes into play in this second Agents of Change book.

All together, though, I gave this book 4 stars. It's really very good. It kept me wanting more. I also really like when books end with a good, suspenseful cliffhanger like this one did. It's another series that I'd recommend to my friends. Great Job:]

I'll be looking forward to reading the last book in the series this spring.
