A storyteller with the power to twist the tales of Fate never lives long. From the beginning, Calista has always told her royals this truth, but she's determined to break the chain of violence by avoiding the attention of the tricky Norns.
When the moon returns to blood and her royals from the neighboring kingdoms fall under attack from their shared enemy, she no longer has a choice and must join the fight to protect those she loves.
By digging into the truth of her mysterious past, Calista comes face to face with the whispers in the dark and the voice, the bond, with a man some know as the Mad King.
Soon, it's clear the king no one has truly seen might have more answers to Calista's past and true purpose than anyone. He might be the only way she survives this fight. Or he could be the one who delivers her destruction.
Welcome to the final stand in the bestselling Broken Kingdoms Saga. A twist of Phantom of the Opera and Vikings in one epic finale, possessive romance, and a destiny no one could ever escape.
I consider myself blessed I'm able to do this for a living. I live for fantasy books as a reader and author. I adore books like An Ember in the Ashes, The Night Angel Trilogy, Harry Potter, The Great Library series...I could go on.
Before I write I have four young humans I keep alive and love them to the stars and back again. I live in Utah with my sexy husband, the kiddos, two paranoid dogs, and a sinister cat. Between finishing a second degree, running a business, and eating too much chocolate, I love writing early in the morning when no one is awake. If you can't tell, I basically function on caffeine.
This was the Avengers Endgame of this series, and I was totally here for it. Getting everyone back together was so fun and made for some very emotional scenes and great action.
My only complaint here was the length. One book was not at all long enough for Calista and Silas' story. This would have been sublime if this was split into two books, the first dealing with Calista and Silas and their relationship, and then the last one that starts the epic finale.
But highly recommend this series for any romantasy readers, and I would actually recommend reading this series first as The Ever King calls back to this series a ton, and I wish I would have had the background going in 🔥
I spent so much of this book with my mouth agape and tears pouring down my face. This book was the perfect conclusion to a perfect series.
I actually could not tell you how I managed to read all 9 books in 2 weeks, all I can say is that I have been living inside of this world and I don't want to leave. My next plan is to read the Ever King series because I am SO ready for this story. However, I think I need to give myself a few days to have a break and come begrudgingly back to the real world.
my heart is raw and my makeup is ruined but i don’t care because all that matters is the fact that i’ll never get to read this series for the first time again 😭
this book was THE PERFECT ending to a god tier series. the way each string of fate is woven through these characters and their journeys towards each other is INSANE. this book has proven to me that LJ Andrews is a genius & I’ll read anything she writes.
emphasis on found family to the MAX
will be posting bookstagram content about this series as a whole, so be on the lookout 🫶🏼⚔️
the subtle shift towards the Ever Seas made my heart so happy 😭 it’s so bittersweet saying “see ya later” to the royals of the broken kingdoms but oh my god am i obsessed with their children and the absolute shenanigans they get up to. i refuse to be done with this world. so with that, let’s dive back into a reread of The Ever King 🙂↕️🏴☠️
The Broken Kingdoms is the gift that keeps on giving! From start to finish, I was on edge through the crazy ups and downs of this last book and final showdown. I love how we’ve gotten to see so much character growth and the newest family additions! It was very satisfying to see all the connections across books after reading Calista‘s tale. Excited for the stories to continue, with even more planned books in the future 🥰
I'm not going to lie. I almost stopped reading this because the first 25% of the book was so frustrating. It was written in such a way that it was fragmented and vague like driving through thick fog and continuously slamming on the breaks. I struggled with figuring out what was going on. Fortunately, I persevered and the story leveled out into a coherent storyline and plot.
This was the last book in this series but it looks like there is a new series or maybe just one book on the Ever King so I'll be reading that.
I loved The Ever King, went back and read all of Broken Kingdoms, LOVED books 1-8, and then got to this one. Honestly, I don't even think you need to read it. Book 8 has a great ending, just hop on past this one and get to The Ever King. It's... fine, but if it was a standalone I might have DNFd it. Silas and Calista's story was nowhere near as fleshed out as the others, so it wasn't as exciting or interesting. There was so much EXPLAINING, but so so much where the answer was basically... because MAGIC. And I won't say what my specific beef with the end is to avoid spoilers, I will say that there is a giant, glaring, super sloppy plot hole. I was looking forward to a Kingdom of Ash-style massive culmination of everyone's stories, but instead it felt like it just fizzled out. I was really disappointed. I do still LOVE books 1-8 and The Ever King, but this one is very meh for me.
IM SO SAD ITS OVER!!!! This series will forever hold a special place in my heart. The intricate world/story LJ Andrews wove together is truly remarkable. The way so many things connected was amazing. This series started much simpler than it turned out being. I loved Silas and Calista and almost wish we had more books of their story, but I also feel like this one was paced really well. I LOVED the phantom of the opera vibes in this. The plot in this was literally nonstop. I was stressed and crying, then happy and smiling in the next breath. I loved having all of the kingdoms and their respective characters stand together for an epic final battle. I do wish I had read this before the ever king but oh well
This book is number 9 in the series so if you're thinking of reading this I HOPE you've read 1-8 and have almost certainly fallen in love with these bleeding royals and their hearts. If you haven't, stop, go and read Curse of Shadows and Thorns, and work your way through in order.
This is a beautiful finale, wrapping up all the threads from previous tales, as well as tossing in some twists and turns that keep you guessing right to the last page.
I loved the phantom's character, I loved his flaws, and how realistic he was. He's spend years in solitude and has emerged with anxieties and fears that you would expect. Even down to the fact he's not an excellent swordsman. He was barely a teen when he was hidden away, so naturally he hasn't learned all the intricate techniques of a well trained warrior, I loved how realistic this was.
I'm obsessed with all the little hints towards The Ever King and I can't wait to pick up Erik and Livia's story ASAP!
I will never stop recommending this series, you can tell it has been a true labour of love, and LJ's passion shines through in every instance of foreshadowing, every breadcrumb leading you to the final battle. I am so honoured to have read an advanced copy of this book but my review is entirely my own honest opinion.
I’m not crying you are 😭😭😭 I finally finished my ARC of Song of Sorrows and Fate tonight and I. AM. WRECKED. Excuse me while I immediately go back to the beginning and reread this whole series because I’m not ready to let go. This was so beautifully done and had the absolute best ending after everything the characters (but also us readers) went thru. I don’t want to say too much and spoil anything as this is the series finale but just WOW! The touch Phantom of the Opera vibes is so good and one of my favorites so this was extra lovely. The way everything becomes interconnected and tied up is *chefs kiss*!
Read this series if you like: 🌹 Viking x Fae 🌹 Fairy tale inspired 🌹 Broody and possessive MMCs 🌹 Bad Ass FMCS 🌹 Intense and bloody battles 🌹 Interesting magic system 🌹 Enticing world building 🌹 Twisting fate and prophecies 🌹 A sprinkle of spice (🌶️🌶️🌶️) 🌹 Found Family 🌹 Love that will start and end wars 🌹 and so much more!
I give this like a 3.7. The book was just dragging through the end. You can tell by the four epilogues that the author did not want to bring this series to an end. I thought this book was going to be more about Calista and Silas love story, but I get it having all the couples come together for the big final battle.
Yikes! I forgot to write a review for this finale! So, now I’ll have to keep things a bit more general:
First and foremost, I highly recommend the series. It is fantastic! Lots of action, unique and intriguing world, strong romance… yum! Each book focuses on a different couple but they all tie in and intertwine so you don’t miss or lose track of those who you have read about before.
That being said, this specific couple is my least favorite. And, that’s a bit of a disappointment because I was SO looking forward to Calista’s book. I loved her in previous books! Sadly, my opinion of her kinda plummeted in this installment. She went from a pragmatic, meet things head on with a sarcastic comment kind of girl to one that runs away and tries to ignore everything chick. Didn’t make sense and it didn’t sit well with me.
BUT… every thing else was awesome! A fabulous end to a fabulous series!
THIS WHOLE SERIES HAS CHANGED ME ON A CELLULAR LEVEL.
Ending it with Calista and Silas was like the perfect icing on the cake. I loved the love story, the action, the fantasy, the side characters—it was truly so perfect and I can’t believe it’s over.

Review: Our final tale in the story. All of our Kingdoms coming together to defeat the villain once and for all, but we also get introduced to some new faces that are important in the future. Calista is one of my favorite characters in this series because she’s often described as just this feral little thing and then to see what part she has played in this game of fate from the beginning to where we are at now is still one of my favorite things in this series. Silas. Oh sweet sweet Silas. I don’t think I will EVER be able to read “Do you know what it’s like?” and not want to burst out into tears. I love the Phantom of the Opera vibes in this one so much, but that’s only a small bit of their tale. The plot twists and reveals in this book bring every single story we’ve seen come together, and we get to watch the prophecy of the four fated queens unfold. And getting to see all the littles that become our MCs in the Ever Seas just makes my heart sing. Rereading this I definitely caught more tiny details that I didn’t the first time, which was so fun heading straight into an Ever Seas reread.
I literally cannot recommend this series enough and I just gotta say thank you to LJ for creating this world and sharing it with us.

Absolute perfection. This series is forever branded onto my heart.
4.75⭐️ And just like that the 9 book Broken Kingdoms series comes to an end. 😭😭😭
That was an amazing journey. LJ has created an incredible world full of unique and interesting magic and awesome characters. There are A LOT of characters. I don’t think I’ve ever read a series of books with the amount of characters. But they’re great and lovable. Silas and Calista’s story was a quick one and had to be told with the ending of the series. So we didn’t get a lot of time with them. But I still loved their journey and it tied all the characters stories together perfectly.
This series is like fantasy romance, candy! You just eat it up and you have such a good time doing it! This is a series where each book gets better and better and better and better! I love how she tie the series up and a lovely bow and let it open for the ever King series. I love her writing style and it just gets better! It’s like the first season of any show it’s a little rockier. It’s where the character starts to develop in laser foundation for the rest of the series. By season two it’s incredible and you’re hooked all the way. This series is the same way. The first three books is like the pilot and the first season and then the next three books is like season two and still want to sell for. It just gets better!
The finale of the series had me going “no way wow! Way!” it still ends the way you think it’s going to end with happy endings, of course, but there is this twist and this twist literally twist ties the entire series and everyone together and I didn’t even see it coming, but you did the whole time! But you had no idea! I absolutely love that! You don’t see this coming and she doesn’t throw it at you until The last three books and then your jaw is on the floor. You just go, no way wow I didn’t even see that coming but this whole time you have been seeing it coming! Incredible work! LJ Andrews I applaud you for that twist, and how that twist, ties the entire broken kingdoms together at the end! Brilliant!
It’s definitely a feel good series. If you just need something that makes you feel happy and content and feel good, This is the series for you! Absolutely a pallet cleanser absolute good time! There’s still trials and woes and life things that happen but all in all you’re not left devastated. You’re left feeling good and happy and all the fields in all the right places. The Disney feels lol! (But it’s nothing like Disney)
You have magical Fae with Vikings. Love it! I just absolutely vibe with this concept and it was done very well in my opinion. To the names of the characters to the names of the places and the way she did the world building you can see and feel the adventure. You live it and then you become obsessed with all of them, and you have to know what happens in their kingdoms throughout the series.
Just get past the first three books because they are a little slower but they are good! They’re soft and a good time but they get so much better as the series goes along and it’s all tied together so pay attention. It is so cool how Mrs. Andrews did that! Absolutely stellar work! What am I talking about you wonder? Read the series and you’re going to be absolutely floored!
Brilliant world building, brilliant, romantic fantasy, brilliant magic system, brilliant found families, and kingdoms, and they’re all interlinked as the series goes on and on and it is really incredibly done!
She says third dark fantasy, but I don’t agree with that. It’s morally gray to me. Maybe it’s dark fantasy for you but to me it’s Morley Gray with happy endings and a lot of our MMC‘s are complete cinnamon rolls and I just eat it up! Like I said romantasy Candy!
This last installment to the nine book series before the ever series is a phantom of the opera type of retelling. I loved it and it was such a good time and such an amazing adventure! The plots, the little bit of spice the world building it’s a really good time!
Like I said the way she ties the entire series together toward the end is really a neat concept. He just don’t see what’s coming. I didn’t see the ending and I love that! Well done Mrs. Andrews and I will be here forever fan!
4.5/5⭐️ The series; 5/5🌟 3/5🌶️
Enjoy my Bookish Friends and remember; if you love/like a book talk about it!
Wow, what a beautiful and breathtaking way to bring this series to an end. It was so epic! LJ Andrews is an amazing writer and as always - I love the world building and how established it is. She’s created characters that are so strong and bold and I felt really connected to all of them. I cherish the characters in this series and they will forever remain in my heart. This series was packed with back to back action, intense battle scenes, and the author did something really creative with bringing all of the characters from the previous books together in a grand finale. It really emphasized on the power of friendship, devotion, and love.
I highly recommend diving into this series and I am definitely looking forward to reading more of this author’s future creations.
I cannot believe I'm done The Broken Kingdoms series 🥹🥹🥲🥲 excuse me while I slip into a post series hangover depression lol
This series has had me in a chokehold for over a month now, starting with Ever King & Ever Queen & then pulling me into the past to read all about the generation previous. The ONLY reason this book is a 4 instead of 5 like I gave all the others is because I didn't *love* the main couple in this book as much as I did the others. Because the rest of the kingdoms had 2-3 books to themselves and this last was one kingdom, one couple, last epic war , I felt the love story was a tad rushed compared to the others and I wasn't as invested. However- having all my fav characters and royals all coming back and joining as one to kick some evil ass was the perfect ending to this series. And omg the heartbreak. I was not expecting to lose so many beloved side characters that I had grown to love , but also impressed that she did make this last book gut wrenching, I feel like sometimes authors skirt over character deaths but then it doesn't make war realistic when EVERYONE survives.. not the case here lol RIP my fallen friends 😓😓
1000000% reccomend this series. It is now my all time favourite, the love I have for this world and these characters .... wow.
Now it's time to reread ever king and ever queen now that I have my historical context and wait for the Mist Thief ARC to come out so I can continue on with my love for this author and the stories she tells ! 😍🫶🏼
Ari, Valen, Kase, Nikolas, Halvar, Hagen, I'll miss you boys! Elise, Malin, Saga, Herja, Calista, my girls!! The best!
A perfect and beautiful ending to now one of my favorite series ever. I loved all nine books in this series and this book just tied it up perfectly. Found family is my favorite and the found family in this series is unmatched. I feel a little lost now that I'm finished. A five star book, a five star series.
The final book in the broken kingdoms series wrapped up these four kingdom’s stories and tied them all together. The ending also dropped hints for what was to come in the Ever King series. There are so many lovable characters and families that LJ Andrews could write endless series and spin offs about them.
I think that the overarching story was very creative in the way that it tied all the kingdoms together and they did a good job of slowly building and building on the massive amount of characters you get to know. However, after 9 books of this series I was feeling a little burned out. I am not sure if it would have been better to read them more quickly rather than one a month as I did but I often found myself asking wait who is that again? Or not remembering some of the major plot of the earlier kingdom’s stories. What did keep me going was my love of these characters. Even minor ones stood out and I felt invested in them even when the plot felt a bit repetitive.
I also felt that while the fairy tale influences in the first three stories was so subtle you could easily miss it, this one was a bit too on the nose for phantom of the opera for me. At times it took me a little out of the story but that stopped about halfway through when Silas took on his more unique story. Overall I am happy with the way this series wrapped up and enjoyed how action packed this final book was from beginning to end.
this series is fantastic. i loved how each set of characters didn’t get forgotten in their world because their story was completed - they’re all in all of the books which makes me so happy. & loved how even if you tried to predict the tricky fate sayings, you could never get it fully right. there was always little twists, or schemes if you will 🙂↕️ everyone should read this series. 9 books but so easy to read & literally can’t say i was ever bored. thank you ms blair, i totally needed another series to think about on the daily 🫶🏻
Such an amazing end to this amazing story. Calista and Salis are beautiful together. I would have loved even more of their story. The peaks into the Ever King were great too.
The more I think about this series, the more I’m obsessed with it. So good! Can’t wait for the next book in the ever king series to come out so I can read about Mira and Tait!!
This was such a precious story as you learn more about Calista and the Phantom, as well as seeing all the kingdoms united for an epic final tale. I cried, I smiled, I held on to the edge of my seat as truths of the past revealed themselves and went on such an amazing ride in the world of the Broken Kingdom.
As the last book of the series, it was so bittersweet to close this chapter of the story, but absolutely loved the Epilogue to see how our favorite characters were living out their lives - which was such a wonderful transition to get excited for the Ever King series!
100% recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy, romance, fairy tales, epic storylines, found family, and strong characters!
This book’s entire purpose was that final battle. Honestly, the series could have and should have ended with Ari and Saga. I found Calista and Silas’s story drawn out and boring for more of it. It was a lot of avoiding Calista’s path. I found her annoying and while I liked Silas, he wasn’t nearly as developed or interesting a character as the other heroes from the earlier books. The end was excellent and it was nice to have epilogues for all the royals. It set up the stories for the next generation (I’ve already read Erik and Livia’s stories and they’re amazing). The ending combined with the fact that it’s the last book of a good series is the only reason I gave it 3 stars. If it were a stand alone, it would have been a DNF, that’s how slow and painful I found Calista’s story. The other characters and past stories barely kept this book afloat. Glad to have finished and have that background to understand the Ever series better.
The final battle for the end, and it was everything 🤌🏼🔥🔥
You have the entire set of characters and their children all together in this final book of this series.
The story, the character development and the absolute fight to the end in every single book is phenomenal. The world building, the prophecies and story woven throughout that comes together in this final book is truly remarkable. This is one of the best series I’ve ever read.
I’ve never been so sad to finish a series in my life, BUT!! Excited to read the Ever Seas and continue in this world!!
Thank you for everyone who stayed and found me through this series! ♥️♥️
Overdone love dynamic. This one felt rushed for being the end of the series. Fragmented and grasping at straws. Silas and Calista were also not characters I really leaned into as likable. In fact, throughout the whole series the only ones that were likable were Kase and Malin because they had a love story that made sense. Every other bleeding royal was hard to understand their love story and connection. Ended in a very kumbaya (spell check) fashion where everyone lives happily ever after. Oh, and it set up the story for her next series which I’m sure will have a much different feel compared to the entire series 🙄 this did the thing of being entertaining and interesting enough for me to finish. Not something I’ll yell at a friend to read.
