This was a delightful smorgasbord of smut from new to me author Christine D’Abo! We have 3 siblings running a coffee shop which is just over the road from a BDSM club called Mavericks. Sadie, Paige and Ian all have separate stories involving the BDSM club so I’ll review them separately.

Double Shot

I think I need to use the great Goodreads term glitterkink to describe this one. I think it's meant to be BDSM but there is no actual BDSM involved in the scenes - this is just really hot menage sex.

So Paul and Sadie have been friends for a decade. She's admired him from afar while he paraded a succession of beautiful girlfriends in front of her. Sadie now runs a coffee shop with her gay brother and straight sister and Paul asks Sadie to cater for him for a special function at the BDSM club he is a member of which is run by his friend Josh. He also comes on strong to Sadie and asks her to think of her secret fantasy.

Having met Josh, Sadie's fantasy is a sweet hot menage with him, her and Paul. This is where it started to fall apart for me. At the function, Paul and Josh take Sadie off to a private room and put her in charge, despite her lack of experience. I kind of hoped that Paul and Josh would take control of the situation. They do have some very hot menage sex but then Paul, really rather inexplicably, decides that Sadie likes Josh better than him and stomps off into a six day sulk!

I felt a little lost and short-changed by this - they do, of course, make up and have a steamy vanilla scene but Paul was a bit of a petulant child and not quite the dom I thought he was going to be.

A Shot in the Dark

I enjoyed this one much more. Paige had been involved in the BDSM lifestyle but left when her boyfriend used it as an excuse for abuse. She meets the gorgeous Carter who is a dom and a firefighter – who could possibly resist. I mean, how hot is that? He slowly reintroduces her to the lifestyle and breaks down her barriers and helps her to trust again.

They do have some deliciously hot BDSM scenes in the club and at home and I very much enjoyed this one.

Pulled Long

Bit of a naughty title or is that just my smutty mind? This is a beautiful m-m romance starring Ian and blue eyes who have been flirting ever since the first story. Turns out blue eyes (Jeff) is bi-sexual and divorcing his wife. Ian, due to a bad personal experience in the past, decides that he can’t possibly cope with another partner who is sexually ambiguous and turns his back on Jeff.

Jeff is not going to take no for an answer and pursues Ian and they indulge in some incredibly erotic and exhibitionist sex with the chance of discovery ever present. Ian is still trying to push Jeff away but Jeff is strong enough for the both of them and slowly gives Ian back his confidence.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really enjoyed this collection and I am glad to see that the series will continue with Beth who Paige sacked back in the second story. All of the siblings have serious issues – I do worry about how they were brought up to be so dysfunctional but thankfully they all get their HEA. I’m definitely going to seek more out by this author and hope that she writes a full-length novel.

I have a major author crush on Christine d'Abo. I fell in love with this trilogy with ease, and I attribute that to d'Abo's ability to show, not tell what her characters are feeling, and she didn't unnecessarily drag out the drama or conflict portions of each couple. I also loved that she took the time to focus on the family dynamics of the Longs and showed us upfront who they were at their core. To me, they never felt like fictional characters. Despite the individual stories being short, the events never felt rushed. D'Abo was also wickedly creative with some of the erotic scenes. I laughed, I burned and I melted. This is one of those those books I'll be revisiting often for the emotional and sexual high and the awwws. If you're looking for a scorching hot, kinky read, with a dash of heart and humor, then this is the series for you. I am absolutely going to start collecting more of Ms d'Abo's books.

Book #1 – Double Shot

Sadie Long has had a crush on Paul Williams for the past decade. They've been friends for just as long, but she won't do anything to risk that friendship. When Paul requests her catering services for Mavericks (the sex club where he works), things change with one question: What's your fantasy, Sadie?” Dare she tell him?

What I loved the most about this story, is that it's a kinky story filled with humor and a lot of heat. Sadie was a delight; the kind of girl you'd want as a friend. She's shy in certain areas of her personality, and bold in others. She can't get Paul's question out of her head, nor her fantasy about having him and his boss, Josh Scott. As much as she wants to, giving in to her deepest desire could cost her her friendship with Paul. Paul was insanely hot in his slow seduction. Their night together was off the charts hot. Even though it didn't end on a good note, it finally made Paul and Sadie acknowledge what they'd always known but were too afraid or stubborn to say. I hope to catch a glimpse of them in the rest of the books.

There was one line from Sadie's very naughty thoughts that made me spit out my drink and laugh out loud. Something about brains.

Book contains M/F and M/F/M

Book #2 – A Shot in the Dark

Paige Long, sister and self-appointed mother hen to her two younger siblings feels a spark for the first time in years when gorgeous firefighter Carter West strolls into her coffee shop one evening. His attempts to flirt with her don't go so well when she realizes he's a Dom. Her last relationship ended because of emotional and physical abuse at the hands of her boyfriend and Master. Getting involved with the lifestyle once again and with Carter could end in the past repeating itself, or it might give her everything she's wanted but denied herself. But first she will have to face her past and summon the courage to let Carter in.

My favorite story so far! Not just because it involved a sexy as sin firefighter who is also a Dom, but because I found Paige's emotional presence to be clearly defined from the first page. I cringed when she finally revealed her past. Her story is relevant and makes a good precautionary tale when it comes to the BDSM lifestyle. I admired her strength to overcome her fears and Carter was the perfect hero for her. I think my jaw dropped to the floor during their most intimate scene.

Book contains M/F, one hot as hell firefighter and frozen peas.

Book #3 – Pulled Long

For nearly a year, Ian Long and Blue Eyes aka Jeff Carson (a recurring customer/character since book 1) have been flirting furiously. Then Ian found out that Jeff was in the middle of a divorce with his soon to be ex-wife. Ian can't and won't allow himself to be used as an experimental rebound. But one night Ian's resolve leaves him, and he allows himself to get lost in his fantasy. When they take things public at a company function and get caught, Ian's immense guilt from his past threatens to overshadow his future.

Ian and Jeff were so good together, it's difficult to describe. I also liked getting the big picture about the Long's parents and what had happened to them. With Ian's story, Long Shots came full circle.

Book contains M/M, voyeurism, exhibitionism

Plots were weak in all 3 stories. But one story had some really hot gay guy sex scenes.

Three erotic romance stories. They are placed in the wrong order in the audiobook. Story 1 shows Blue Eyes meeting Ian. Story 2 shows their continuing interaction. But Story 2 is placed first on the audiobook which was unsettling because events were out of order. I am guessing the producers did this to put the bdsm story first - thinking it’s the hottest? Riding the popularity wave from Fifty Shades of Grey? I was annoyed. Following is the order they appear in the audiobook.

2 stars. A SHOT IN THE DARK (#2)
There were about three sex scenes, two very long. He gives her orders. There is spanking, other pain things, and rear door activity. I’ve enjoyed other bdsm stories, but not this one. I felt self conscious and uncomfortable. They meet and immediately start doing bdsm scenes. I would have preferred some relationship development.

I did not like the heroine’s actions during the major-conflict-separation. She was stupid and careless and said things I would not have said. It did not please me as a storyline.

The narrator was Winslow Cummings. She made it worse. I did not like the whimpering, crying, weak voice she used for Paige when Paige was being dominated, saying yes sir, and counting the spankings. It came off too wimpy. I’d prefer a different submissive voice. I also did not like her voice for Carter. The narrator is a woman trying to sound like a man, but everything in his voice was low, quiet, and calm. It was missing a confident tone that I think a dom would have had.

---------------------------------------------------------------

3 stars. DOUBLE SHOT (#1)
This was a better story, but I did not care for the major conflict. It was contrived - like the author couldn’t think of anything better. The purpose of the story is sex. There is no bdsm. There are three sex scenes. One of them is very long with Sadie having sex with two men, including rear door activity. For some reason this scene wasn’t very exciting for me. She was directing the action telling the guys what to do. They would say “may I?” and she would say “yes you may.” It didn’t work well for me. I like it better when the emphasis is on guys “wanting” to do things to her.

The narrator in this story was Isabelle Gordon. She was good, although her voice for Josh was weird.

---------------------------------------------------------------

2 stars. PULLED LONG (#3)
This had some really hot sex scenes between two men. These were the best sex scenes in the three stories. They included toys, rear door activity, and public displays.

However, the plot was weak. Ian’s warped thinking caused contrived conflicts. Ian thinks he’s going to be hurt or rejected, so he repeatedly runs away without explaining. He thinks he’s at fault when he’s not. For example, his dad was driving, ran a red light, and had a car accident. Ian blames himself because his dad had the accident while he was angry at Ian. Ian’s mother died of cancer, but Ian feels responsible saying he should have cared for her more. One of Jeff’s clients fires Jeff. Ian feels it is Ian’s fault because he jinxes things for people near him. Those things do not make an interesting story.

The narrator Max Tatch was excellent.

---------------------------------------------------------------

DATA FOR ALL THREE STORIES:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Unabridged audiobook length: 9 hrs and 35 mins. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: about 11. Setting: current Toronto, Canada. Book copyright: 2011. Genre: erotic contemporary romance, menage, male-male.

Three separate stories about siblings Ian, Paige and Sadie Long, owners of the coffeehouse Pulled Long, and their sexual adventures at the local sex club, Mavericks. Paige, the uptight eldest sister, really needs to give control over to someone else...and finds the perfect Dom in a hunky fireman. Sadie, who has secretly been in love with her best friend, Paul, for 10 years, is finally able to hook up with him while at the same time fulfilling her fantasy of being with two men at the same time. Ian, the 27-yr-old little brother, is infatuated with a customer known only as "blue eyes", until he finds out his crush is in the midst of a divorce - from a woman!

All three stories were enjoyable...a nice blend of romance and sex between consenting protagonists that stayed true to a solid plot. If you like audiobooks, this would be a good choice as the 3 different narrators each do an excellent job.

Please note that all of the stories have been released previously but I had not read them in their original form.

This book gives you stories surrounding 3 siblings finding the loves of their lives. I say this because all of them find happiness even if they didn't really know they were searching for it.

Double Shot -

Sadie is all work and very little play. She has a great friend, Paul, and a new business with her siblings. Sure, she's always lusted after Paul but hey he doesn't feel the same way and why risk this all important friendship for something that might not work.

Paul has wanted Sadie from almost day one but thinks she has never looked at him as anything more than a friend but he intends to make his feelings known to her and boy oh boy does he do so...

Josh... Paul's friend and the owner of Maverick's, a private sex club. Dear gawd is he sexy and he is invested in Paul as both a friend but has some feelings for him sexually.

All I can say is Sadie is a lucky, lucky woman cause man oh man do the men show her a hot time but more than that Josh forces Paul and Sadie to own up to how deeply they really feel about one another. I liked that he pushed the issue and that she felt comfortable enough for Josh to also show Paul how he felt about him. Sadie and Paul are great together and I would love to see Josh get his own HEA.

A Shot in the Dark -

Paige is a submissive who didn't understand the difference between a healthy D/s relationship and the hell she was in. She has been suppressing her needs since leaving her ex but recently has been craving the release she experienced at the hands of a Dom. She meets Carter at her shop and while they have instant chemistry she is wary of being near another Dom.

Carter is a firefighter and Dom who is intrigued by Paige but senses there is more to the story than what little she gives to him. He wants her for more than just a temporary fling but isn't sure he can bring her back to herself. He pushes the boundaries with her but in a great way. If I were a sub I would want a Dom like this that truly cares for my well-being but knows where the true boundaries are and will push the limits.

This story was hot in more ways than one and I loved to see both find more than they ever expected in each other.

Pulled Long -

This story has been building since the beginning where Ian (the lone brother) meets a man they call Blue Eyes. You get to see the flirting and the intense connection the two men have before you even get to know his name. You also get to see the betrayal Ian feels when he finds out that Blue Eyes is in the process of finalizing a divorce.

Jeff and Ian have a very intense attraction but due to issues in Ian's past he is afraid to play the game with another straight man wanting to play gay for a thrill. I loved watching Ian break down under Jeff's care and hearing what Ian has kept to himself and from his family for all these years was heartbreaking... He's a great guy who deserves happiness even if he doesn't believe he is worth it. I enjoyed seeing him finally reach out and grab the happiness he deserved even though it was hard sometimes things are worth fighting for.

All 3 stories are quick reads and all have some definite heat but I liked the interactions between the family and how each of the men brought key pieces in to the family.. :-)

Lee's review posted on Guilty Pleasures

This book as a collection of anthologies about three siblings who run a coffee shop together and their romantic lives. The banter between Sadie, Paige, and Ian really made these stories such a pleasure to read. The relationship these siblings has was extremely realistic and I could feel the love between them coming off the pages.

In the first anthology, Double Shot, we meet Sadie and Paul. These two have been friends for 10 years and in that time Sadie has developed a major crush on Paul but refuses to act on it, on the off chance she could ruin their friendship. When Paul asks Sadie to cater an event at a BDSM club that he’s on the board of things finally start to heat up between these two… and Josh, the owner of the club and Paul’s best friend.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this story was the humor, but also the desire that Paul has for Sadie. Reading how much he wants her was one of the most intense things I’d read in a long time. I loved the story between these two but when the author added Josh into the mix it got even hotter. With Josh’s help Sadie was finally able to come into her own and demand the things of Paul that she had been wanting for 10 years.

The second story, A Shot in the Dark, is about Sadie’s older sister Paige. Paige used to be into the BDSM lifestyle but after a bad experience with an ex she can’t bring herself to go back to Josh’s club. Being in control of everything in her life and not having that outlet is really starting to wear her down, but she’s having trouble moving past her fear to submit to another Dom. After meeting Carter when he stopped in the coffee shop, Paige instantly knew he was a Dom and couldn’t deny the attraction between them.

Carter is determined to help Paige get back that piece of her life that he ex took from her even though she fights tooth and nail to prove that she can do everything on her own. In trying to prove that she isn’t weak, Paige almost succeeds in pushing Carter away. The author did an amazing job of writing this strong willed, determined woman. In the end Paige knew that taking what she wanted from life was more important than proving that she didn’t need anyone’s help. This story was a joy to read.

Pulled Long was the third anthology in the Long Shots book. Ian has been flirting with Jeff “Blue Eyes” since he walked into his coffee shop in Double Shot and it was really fun to read the development of these two characters through all three stories. Ian is finally ready to make a move on Jeff when he finds out that Jeff is in the middle of a divorce… from a woman. Ian convinces himself that Jeff is just in the mood to scratch an itch with him and he refuses to be a straight man’s experiment.

After reading about Ian in the first two stories, you get the picture that he’s a really laid back, devil may care person. But in Pulled Long you finally get to know him and there is a lot under the surface. Because of past experiences with his ex and his father Ian is so convinced that he is a let down to everyone in his life that he can’t bring himself to see that Jeff could really make him happy. In the first stwo stories you read how Ian steps up for his sisters and helps them in any way he can. It was a pleasure to read about them finally doing the same for him.

These three stories are full of everything a romance reader would ever need. Humor, drama, a little suspence, and a TON of burn the sheets sex. This is a definite must read.

For novellas, the characters are surprisingly fleshed out and with enough plot to keep you entertained. But really, they're mostly erotic and smutty fun.

This is a fabulous anthology containing 3 incredibly hot erotic romance novellas guaranteed to leave you fanning yourself after reading them. I'm going to review each novella separately but I can't recommend this series highly enough so if you like your erotic romance a little on the kinky side then grab your copy now!

Double Shot - 4 Stars
Double Shot is a great introduction to the Long Shots series and left me keen to spend more time with the Long siblings. This is the story of middle sister Sadie who is the one in charge of the kitchen of the family cafe and catering business that they run together. We are also introduced to older sister Paige who is in charge of the business side of things and their younger brother Ian who is the coffee genius. Compared to her siblings Sadie has always considered herself the quiet one, she is happy to watch from the sidelines as they seek out the attention with their outrageous antics. Sadie has been friends with Paul for 10 years now and although she has always been attracted to him she has never even dreamed that he might share her interest. But when Paul hires her to cater an event at the exclusive sex club where he works things quickly start to heat up between them. Paul offers to help her fulfil her wildest fantasies but will Sadie dare to take a chance when she risks losing her best friend?

I'm a sucker for a friends to lovers story and this was no exception - I loved the chemistry between Sadie and Paul. I was surprised how easy it was to connect to the characters considering this was a novella and I thoroughly enjoyed watching things develop between them. Throw in Paul's very sexy boss Josh who happens to be the owner of Mavericks club into the mix and you're in for a very spicy threesome but will Paul and Sadie remain friends in the aftermath? Although the threesome takes place at the sex club there is no BDSM involved but you're still in for a very steamy read! I also enjoyed the relationship between Sadie, Ian and Paige and am going to enjoy getting to read both of their stories. Double Shot is highly recommended for when you're looking for a quick but naughty read.

A Shot in the Dark - 4.5 Stars
The second novella in the Long Shot series A Shot in the Dark tells the story of the oldest Long sibling, Paige. Paige is a natural submissive but after escaping from an abusive relationship with her brutal ex she has spent the last three years avoiding the BDSM scene. When the sexy but dominant firefighter Carter asks her on a date she is wary of getting hurt again. Can she allow Carter a position of control over her and trust that he won't take things too far?

What is better than a hunky firefighter? A hunky, Dominant firefighter who swaps his uniform for leather when he's not working! Yes, Carter is one HAWT guy and that makes Paige a very, very lucky woman. Paige has been through a lot and it has left it's toll on her, she finds it hard to trust anyone and because she is denying part of herself she is no longer comfortable in her own skin. She is attracted to Carter but it takes a lot of guts for her to risk attempting a scene with him and you have to admire her for having the courage to try. Carter is a perfect Dom, he can see how damaged Paige is but he knows exactly what she needs and how to give it to her. He puts her needs above his own and works at earning her trust so that she feels comfortable with him. If you're looking for a quick read with hot sex and a little light spanking then A Shot in the Dark will fit the bill perfectly, this was a great addition to the series and one I'd recommend to fans of erotic romance.

Pulled Long - 5 Stars
I have been looking forward to Ian's story ever since I started reading Double Shot, the attraction between him and the customer he knows only as Blue Eyes was intense from the very beginning and I couldn't wait to see how things turned out for them. I have to admit that I was a little nervous before starting the story though, mainly because I haven't ever read a M/M erotic romance before and I wasn't sure how I would find it. I needn't have worried though because this was my favourite story in the series so far!

Ian is such a fabulous character, he cares deeply for his sisters and works incredibly long hours to take the pressure off of them so that they can enjoy their new romantic entanglements. He has been drawn to Jeff (Blue Eyes) since the moment he first saw him but after finding out that Jeff is currently going through a divorce he refuses to act on that attraction. Ian has been hurt in the past and doesn't want to be anyone's rebound guy - especially not someone who is straight and will only end up breaking his heart to go back to being with women. Jeff on the other hand knows that Ian is the person he wants to be with and he is determined to prove it.

Without a doubt Pulled Long is a HOT read, not only are Ian and Jeff crazy about each other and unable to keep their hands to themselves but they both have an exhibitionist streak and enjoy both watching others and being watched. This leads to some very steamy scenes at Maverick's sex club that certainly raised my temperature while I was reading! Christine d'Abo definitely knows how to write good erotic romance and I can't wait to read more of her work starting with the next book in this series Calling the Shots which stars Maverick's owner Josh who I have been crushing on since Double Shot, I have a feeling his story is going to be a good one!

Review as a collective whole:

I really enjoyed this as a collection. Each novella stands on its own but read together it is quite enjoyable. I’m not quite sure what me request this title from NetGalley, but something made me take the risk and I am glad I did. The stories are not so hardcore to turn off someone like me who hasn’t read much erotica of this sort before and no M/M at all. You get your HEA (Happily Ever After) at the end of each story, which makes the romance genre fan happy. On top of that the characters are so very lovable. I fell in love with the siblings very quickly. They are a tight knit family that function as a family. Even as they are driving each other crazy as only siblings can do there is still the overwhelming feeling of love and protectiveness for each other. Also, there is a surprising amount of emotion involved in each story. In each story one or both of the partners has to overcome something, so this collection is not just fluff but gets you involved emotionally. The only downfall of this collection… not knowing if the owner of Mavericks, Josh is going to get his own HEA. He appeared in each story and is intriguing in his own right!

As a collective whole I give this collection a

Rating: 4.5 Orchids

Reviews of each story:

Sadie and Paul:

Sadie and Paul had been friends for 10 years, for that whole time Sadie has been nursing more then friendly feelings for her friend. When Paul invites her to Mavericks the local sex club where he works, she is unable to resist the temptation to go. As it turns out he has an offer she cannot refuse, her shop catering an event at Mavericks. I adored Sadie, she is cute and someone that inspires protective feelings. Her crush on Paul is also quite endearing, I like how she gets all flustered whenever he is around. Her behavior is exactly how you would expect one to act if hiding a crush on their best friend. lol. Paul, finally, finally seems to waking up to the appeal that is Sadie. When Sadie comes to visit him at Mavericks he challenges her to give up her fantasies. I like that she held out on him, even under a front assault in the bakeries fridge. It showed she is no push over. When Sadie does give up her fantasy, it turns out to be a doozy, it involves Paul and …. But can Paul give her, her fantasy and still be able to be friends or more? Read to find out!

Paige and Carter:

For three years after a relationship gone wrong, Paige has been denying herself what she needs most. Her sexual tendencies are far from vanilla, but she no longer trusts herself to get what she needs from a man for herself. She is starting to fall apart when Carter walks into her coffee shop. It’s obvious he’s on his way to Mavericks the local sex club and from his stare she can tell he’s a Dom. When Carter asks Paige out her body is SCREAMING at her to say yes, but her head is saying no way! She knows Carter is a temptation and she doesn’t know if she can trust herself. Carter is sexy as hell and so very supportive of Paiges wants and needs. I’ve never had much interest in starting up the BDSM lifestyle but if I had a Carter staring at me, I don’t think I’d say no! LOL. I felt so bad for Paige, after an experience gone so horribly wrong I don’t blame her for giving up the lifestyle and exactly what she had thought would happen, did. This tale is really about Paige learning to trust not only herself but in her partner as well. But trust is not something that comes easy for anyone but especially not as easily for Paige and she may never be able to trust what’s right in front of her.

Ian and Jeff (AKA Blue Eyes):

So, I have never really read M/M (I am not counting Qhuinn and Blay AKA Qhuay from BDB), so when I saw a M/M couple was apart of this collection I was slightly intrigued. I figured here was a chance to get my feet wet with the concept with a novella that was apart of a collection. If I didn’t like this part of the collection then there were still two other tales to enjoy. Ian from the first book you adore, you just can’t help but love him. He is so openly affectionate and supportive towards his sisters. We meet Blues Eye’s also in the first book when he comes into the coffee shop for the first time and an instant flirtation sparks up between him and Ian. So you have two books prior to this one to start rooting for this couple. As for the erotica part of this tale it is pretty tame, I’m not sure what to expect but it wasn’t too much and it never made me uncomfortable. As for the romance aspect, I was rooting for these two from the beginning, I really liked Blue Eyes from the first book, but liked him even more as Jeff as Ian’s love interest in this book. Jeff is amazingly supportive of Ian, even when Ian pushes him away, repeatedly. You see, Ian has a secret, one that has been eating away at him for 10 years. This secret may just be the wedge that tears these two apart.

The Long Shots series of erotic romances by Christine d’Abo center around the cafe, bakery and catering business with the wonderfully punny name “Pulled Long” and the sex club across the street with the equally evocative name, “Mavericks”.

The Long siblings own Pulled Long. Sadie runs the baking and catering, Ian does the coffee, and Paige manages the business end of things. In spite of the long hours and the extremely early mornings, it’s way better than their old day jobs used to be. But the one thing that running their own business doesn't do is leave any of them much time for a love life. Or even much of an occasional sex life. And that’s where Mavericks comes in to each of their lives.

Ahem.

Sadie’s story, Double Shot, is basically a hotter than average friends-into-lovers story with a threesome as the opening sex act. Or possibly as the handoff. That works better than it sounds. Double Shot is really a classic story, with a kinky twist. Sadie and Paul have been best friends for years, because they met when he dated her BFF. By the time it would have been okay for her to go after him, the friendship was too good to risk. Ten years later, the seemingly unrequited lust is driving her insane! Of course she has no idea he’s in the same bad way, until he hands her a major catering job at Mavericks, and the costume to go with it.

While in one sense, the climax of the story is the threesome between Sadie, Paul and Josh, the owner of Mavericks, it really is Sadie and Paul’s romance. Josh is there to make sure the two lovebirds don’t chicken out on the way to their happily ever after, not that he doesn't enjoy himself. But it’s bittersweet for him because he’s definitely giving his best friend away to someone who will monopolize his attention. Josh is doing the right thing for the right reasons but he’s closing a chapter in his own life. (d’Abo gets back to Josh in Calling the Shots.)

Escape Rating for Double Shot: B

Oldest sister Paige Long is the one most involved with Mavericks. Or at least she used to be. A Shot in the Dark is the story of Paige taking back control of her life by finding someone with whom she can give up control in the bedroom. Paige, who is the business manager for Pulled Long, is a submissive in the BDSM scene who has been unable to let herself acknowledge that her first and last Dom was an abusive asshat who slapped her around and ignored her needs and boundaries.

So this is a story about love and trust. It’s also very steamy. But what this story does is let the reader take a walk into Paige’s lifestyle in a way that makes the BDSM aspects about the romance and not the titillation for titillation’s sake. Even if it’s not the reader’s cuppa tea, you leave the story seeing why it’s Paige’s. And cheering when the asshat gets his head handed to him by the man who turns out to be the right man (and Dom) for her.

Escape Rating for A Shot in the Dark: B

Finally, Ian’s story. He’s last because he never lets himself take any time off from the store. He works extra long hours so he really doesn't have time for a love life. His story even has the same title as the name of their shop, Pulled Long. And his lover had to walk into the store, because Ian lives above the shop. There wasn't anywhere else they could have met.

Ian’s fallen for a man he only knows as “Blue Eyes” for eight months. He’s a customer that Ian flirts with, talks with, but can’t manage to cajole a name out of. It’s a game they play. Jeff knows perfectly well that Ian is asking for his name, but he’s enjoying the game too. And he’s waiting for his divorce to be final before he starts dating anyone else. And that’s the problem. When Ian discovers that Jeff is finalizing his divorce, Ian breaks off their game. He’s been a straight guy’s rebound experiment before, and he does not want to go through that heartache again. Jeff knows perfectly well that he’s not straight, he’s bi, and right now, he wants to pursue a relationship with Ian because he really enjoys the friendship they've developed and wants to find out how far it can go. But between Ian’s long-term guilt issues, insecurity issues, and Jeff’s mistrust issues, there’s a question whether they can manage to take their relationship beyond some very hot one-night stands in risky places, or whether they’re both too screwed up to work out the best thing that’s ever happened.

Long Shots, Books 1-3 by Christine d’Abo
4/5 stars
Source: Netgalley

*this is a collection of three erotic novellas for adults only*

Welcome to the Pulled Long café, home of owners Sadie, Paige, and Ian Long. Sadie is the baker, Paige is the manager, and Ian is the totally neurotic about the perfect cup of coffee barista. Each of the Long siblings works long hours trying to make their café successful and forget about the fact that each of them has absolutely no social life. Unfortunately, that last part is pretty hard to do when your café is just down the street from the local sex club, Mavericks.

Mavericks is the secondary setting for each of the three novellas and is a fascinating and disturbing place all at the same time. Mavericks is a super-exclusive high end establishment where the security is tight and the inhibitions are not. Each of the Long siblings not only has friends among the Mavericks staff but they each also have either experience a club members or a distinct interest in becoming a member. That is, if the right partner comes along and they can move beyond their respective pasts. As you might suspect, each of the three novellas follows one of the Long siblings as they face their pasts, their presents, and their futures. One of the highlights of this series is how the three novellas are separate in order to accommodate one siblings’ complete story but still connected to the other novellas with the connectors being the siblings, the café, and Mavericks.

I thoroughly enjoyed these three quick reads for a variety of reasons including the relationship between the Long siblings, the significant others who appear, and of course the naughty bits. Here’s the breakdown: each of the Long siblings are all just a little bit broken but each knows they have the complete support and backing of one another. For the record, there are a few totally typical sibling bits thrown in that will make you laugh. Seriously, what sibling wants to know about the naughty bits of their brother or sister? 
The significant others who appear in the lives of Sadie, Paige, and Ian are as significant as they are deliciously hot. I really liked the fact that each of the partners understood the broken parts of their respective Long sibling and worked to help each one overcome the pain of their past and move into a bright future with a caring, compassionate, and passionate partner. All three of the partners are divine, imaginative, and totally drool-worthy.
And finally, dear reader, the part you have been waiting for, the erotica. This series has a little bit of everything including a bit of light bondage (can bondage be light?), fun with toys and some same gender sex. From my particular perspective none of the sex scenes were disturbing or pornographic just goooood. But, even though the sex is steamy, therapeutic, and sometimes occurring with an audience in a sex club it never overwhelms or overshadows the story. d’Abo has definitively proven that erotica can still be very good erotica without sacrificing the quality of the characters and/or the plot.

Bottom line: Long Shots isn’t going to be for everyone especially if you are a part of the under 18 age group. The sex is varied and certainly not modest but isn’t pornographic and as such will likely appeal to a wide range of erotica readers. d’Abo has an easy writing style and has created characters that are interesting, funny, and fully developed despite the length of the stories.

Carina Press is releasing the first 3 Long Shots books: Double Shot, A Shot in the Dark, and Pulled Long in one edition.

Three siblings Sadie, Paige, and Ian Long own and run the Pulled Long coffee and café together.

Double Shot (ménage) is Sadie’s book. Sadie has been lusting after her friend Paul for ten years but didn’t want to ruin their friendship. Paul gets Sadie a job catering a party at Maverick a local sex club where your fantasies can come true. While working together Paul encourages Sadie to explore her fantasies and he offers to help her make them come true. When Sadie meets Josh the owner of Mavericks she knows just what fantasy she wants. She wants to be the middle of a Paul and Josh sandwich.
Sadie is sweet and shy and amazingly strong. I love the confusion she feels when Paul turns the tables on her and reveals his attraction to her. I enjoyed the ménage with the guys not really worrying about who was touching whom.
A Shot in the Dark (D/s) is Paige’s story. When Paige was younger she was involved with an abusive relationship. As an untrained sub she didn’t know the rules and it almost killed her. She pulled herself out and has avoided dating and relationships since. Three years later she meets Carter one HOT fireman who just also happens to be a Dom. He convinces Paige to go to Mavericks with him for a drink. Paige is the one who pushes for more but is she ready for it? I really liked Carter.
Pulled Long (mm)is Ian’s story. Ian is gay. Ian has had a long string of bad luck and prefers to bury himself in the shop the one place he seems to succeed. Then the man with the blue eyes comes into the shop. He flirts with Ian and just when Ian is ready to ask him out he finds out that Mr. Blue Eyes is going through a divorce. Once again bad luck for Ian. He doesn’t want another man who is conflicted about his sexual orientation. Been there, done that, it sucks. One night Jeff aka Mr. Blue Eyes comes by the shop after hours and tells Ian the divorce is final and Ian gives into lust. He is kicking himself for giving in when he finds that Jeff has left his briefcase behind. When Ian returns it Jeff convinces Ian to go out with him. Can this work for Ian or will this chance for his happiness go the way of all his other relationships? I really liked this story. The sex was hot and Ian is so sweet. I love the fact that Ian was more conflicted than Jeff. Jeff knew what he wanted and forced Ian to decide whether to give happiness a chance or not.

I really, really enjoyed these stories and cannot wait for Josh’s story Calling The Shots.

First, thanks to Carina Press and NetGalley for providing the ARC for this little threesome called Long Shots: books 1-3.

The three stories revolve around the Long family who all work at the Pulled Long Cafe, "where the coffee is hot and the sex is hotter." I really enjoyed reading all three of these stories in quick succession.

First - there's Double Shot. The story revolves around the youngest sibling, Sadie. She's been lusting after her good friend Paul for more than a decade, yet she's too worried about ruining her friendship to try and put the moves on him. Paul is part owner in Mavricks, the sex club where much of all of these stories takes place. Sadie's been suppressing not only her attraction to Paul, but her fantasies as well. When she's finally put on the spot, Paul helps all of her fantasies come true.

Double Shot was my favorite of the three stories. I related to Sadie and her threesome with Paul and Josh was really steamy.

Second came A Shot in the Dark. This novella tells the tale of Paige, the older sister and 'wild child' of the family. She's been down the BDSM road before only to have the scene ruined for her by an ex-boyfriend. Along comes Carter, a sexy fireman who wants to help Paige get exactly what she needs. This story didn't do it for me as much as the other two did, but it was hot and sexy and Carter is pretty smokin'.

The last story, Pulled Long tells the tale of Ian, the gay brother of the two Long ladies and has a lot of personal issues he hasn't dealt with. All throughout the first two stories, he's flirting with a man know only as 'Blue Eyes', who as it turns out to be, a bisexual man just coming through a divorce, to a woman. This throws Ian for a loop, and having been burned by a bisexual lover in the past, he doesn't think his heart can take the risk again. I enjoyed the playful banter between Ian and 'Blue Eyes', AKA - Jeff. Jeff, while he may be bi, knows exactly what he wants, but won't put up with Ian's BS about his past. I liked that Ian was forced to face his issues before he could realistically have a relationship with Jeff.

All and all, I enjoyed these stories a lot and kind of wish there was another one that gave us another glimpse into the future of the Long family. Well done, and will be reading more from Christine d'Abo's collection of work.

**My full review here.**

Whoa. Ummm, all I can say, really is that I'm glad you can't see me as I type. Can you say "blushing"?!?!? I thoroughly enjoy coffee, and sex. These short stories deliver them both VERY HOT.

Most definitely not "PG-13" books, being that there is menage, BDSM, and m/m scenes. All 3 books were extremely sexy, extremely hot. I finished all 3 in one day.

The sexy siblings, Sadie, Paige, and Ian co-own Pulled Long Cafe (a coffee shop/bakery). Sadie lusts over Paul for over 10 years, but they just can't seem to move out of "friend zone", until Paul needs Pulled Long to cater an event at his {sex} club, Mavericks. Since Sadie runs the bakery/food part of Pulled Long, her and Paul will be closely working together, and things heat up....not just in the kitchen!

Paige takes care of the financials at Pulled Long Cafe, which is what she likes. She can keep to herself, until one night she is in the store late, and alone. When a group comes in that is clearly from Mavericks, Paige's guard instantly comes up. She doesn't want to get involved with Carter, since he is clearly a Dom, but she does need to find a way to get over her past once and for all....perhaps Carter can help her with that.

Ian. The brain child behind the shop, and the coffee guru of the siblings, Ian is always there for his sisters, and the shop. Literally. His apartment is right above the shop. After months of flirting with a very hot customer, Ian finally takes a chance on him.....and hopes that he won't "ruin" another life. I must say, m/m scenes are NOT something I'd ever desired to read before, but I loved reading Ian's story.

I will most definitely be grabbing the 4th book, Calling the Shots, ASAP!! I can't wait to read Josh's story!

Welcome to Pulled Long café, where the coffee is hot, and the sex is hotter! Meet your hosts:

Sadie Long has been lusting after her friend Paul for years, and when she visits him at Mavericks, the sex club where he works, she's suddenly fantasizing about being with Paul and his sexy boss Josh—at the same time.

Paige Long can't help but be attracted to gorgeous firefighter Carter, especially once she learns he's a Dom. But can she trust in her own desires and submit to happiness?

Ian Long doesn't want to be the rebound guy for a brokenhearted man—even after a little exhibitionist play with Jeff satisfies desires he didn't even know he had...

That's the best introduction for these novellas so I'm borrowing from the summary. Long Shots is a series of three novellas that each focus on a different sibling in the Long family. Novellas are notoriously hard to get good character development in, but d'Abo does a really good job in these. I thought all three of the siblings, Sadie, Paige and Ian are really well written and while the author could have solely focused on the sex only in these short story's, there is definitely plot.

Other than the over use of the 'C' word, I thought the sexy stuff was sexy and the love interests were definitely hot and the chemistry was palpable between the characters.

In these novellas you will find M/F/M, M/F, D/s, M/M plots ... all very well done - if you're looking for something short and sexy this might be perfect for you!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this for review.

I'll break this down into books:

Double Shot:
I actually didn't really like Sadie. I liked Paul (and Josh), but Sadie was kind of whiny for me. I love a direct approach. When asked a question answer it honestly (and with confidence) if they don't like the answer, well there's that saying "don't ask a question you don't want to hear the answer to". I thought Josh did a dick move, but so did Paul. Then again, so did Sadie...why wait for him to come to you? You should have explained what happened! Oh and isn't it like Best Friend Rule #1 that ex boyfriends are OFF LIMITS?! That really threw me for a loop. I don't care how long ago it was, still your best friends ex. Not cool.

A Shot in the Dark:
Paige. I loved her! I loved how strong and confident she is. I loved her internal dialogue. I loved how she knew what she wanted and laid it out there (rules!). Carter, holy hotness! Cupping. Pea filled condoms. Sexy firefighter! I thought her book was too short though, I wanted more.

Pulled Long:
Ian! Wow. I loved him and Jeff. That's all there is to it. Jeff is perfect for him and my stomach was doing flips reading their story. So sweet. I should have called Paige to kick Cassie's ass, because she's a bitch! I want more from these two. Desperately.

However, wouldn't it be kind of weird to go into Mavericks and see your sister doing a scene or your brother getting sucked off? All 3 of them could be there at the same time. Kind of creeps me out that they could find each other in these predicaments. Sadie is with Paul co-owner of Mavericks. Paige is a sub and her Dom takes her there. Ian likes to be viewed, so he's into public sex at the club. ACK!

Can't wait to read Josh's story next!

Long Shots: Books 1-3 by Christine d'Abo
Genres: Adult, Erotica, Romance.
Book 1 ~ Double Shot (Long Shots, #1)
2.75 Stars
It started out interesting, but I really find it hard to believe that 2 people could feel the same way about each other for TEN YEARS and neither of them know the feeling was mutual.
I mostly 'Liked' the story, but there was to many words about nothing. It is only about 90 pages, so why make Sadie delivering her cake to the party & catering take up an entire chapter. To much Artificial Filler in That Cake!.
Sadie & Paul confused me.
Some romance and humor. A typo or 2. A likable 'ish read.
Book 2 ~ A Shot in the Dark
2 Stars
So numerous I am not going to waste much time on this review. There are typos/editing errors. The writing is sluggish. To much about nothing. The erotic scene are lacking in intensity and conection.
I was tempted many times to put it on my Finish Later shelf.
End result, Painfully Boring! I Can't Take It Any More.
I made it to the end of book 2 and said 'No More'.
So Book 3 is a ?? And I just don't care.

I love variety in my erotica, so reading this was so much fun.

Long Shots: Books 1-3 consists of 3 novellas, each one focusing on one of the Long Siblings - Sadie, Paige, and Ian. But while the stories were connected by the relationship of the siblings and their business, that is where the similarities end. Book 1 is m/f/m, Book 2 is m/f BDSM, and Book 3 is m/m - almost like an erotica buffet. And really, how can you go wrong with that? There is something for everyone...or, in my case, a little bit of everything for me :)

What I really appreciated was that while these were 3 separate novellas, the characters continued to play parts in each of the other stories, so there was some consistency and depth that is typically found in stories of this length. Sometimes when a novella ends, there is an abruptness simply because of the restrictions that come with the length, but not with these.

Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me the chance to read them.

I thought that the three stories in this book sounded like they would be just wanted I needed at the time; quick, hot and sweet. However, while the stories were that for the most part, I never truly felt like I connected with any of the Long siblings. I’ve read plenty of novellas, so I know that it is possible to create a connection in a short period of time. Heck, I was intrigued by Josh immediately upon meeting him for the first time. I wanted to know more about him, I can’t say the same for any of the Long siblings.

Of all three stories, Sadie’s story Double Shot was the best, followed by Ian’s story Pulled Long. Paige’s story A Shot in the Dark never really captured my attention. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot to say about this book except that it was decent. I wouldn’t read it again or beat my friends over the heads with recommendations, but it wasn’t a complete total waste of time.

4 Sizzling sexy Stars!

Not generally a fan of Novella's myself. All too often I find them too rushed, predictable and generally not worth the money when most times you can buy a full novel for the same price.

This series of three Novella's is without doubt the exception to the rule. Individually they are offer a clear insight into the characters and plot. They are dazzlingly sexy, and highly erotic reads. Every one of them. I was not at all disappointed. So to have them compiled into one book is superb!

So if you are looking for some hot sexy menage, erotic m/m voyeurism , a seriously sexy fire fighter with a wicked imagination who wears leather pants on his off time;) Then click away, you found it!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley who sent this to me for an honest review.

This is a well-written erotic novel, but it's different from anything I read. Basically the story follows the Long family. Sadie, Paige and Ian. All have different pasts and have opened up a coffee shop in downtown Toronto. The first story is about Sadie and her fantasies. The second story is for Paige and her issues with being a former sub with an extremely abusive dom. And then we come to sweet Ian's story. Ian was definitely my favorite character in this series. He was sweet, loving and totally crushing on Mr. Blue Eyes. Who would never, ever tell him his name.

This was a great trilogy packed into one volume. All three siblings are looking for love, but are afraid to go for it due to past issues. Of the three stories, I like Ian's the best. He was just too sweet and so deserved to be loved. I definitely recommend this one. The Long siblings are great characters. The love scenes are very erotic and well written. I look forward to Josh's story!

That was just amazing! Loved all the stories and the no nonsense approach and delivery

Despite the quick read of each story, and the ties that run through all three stories, they cover some deep topics and touch on the human nature really well

And HOT!!! Holy, hotness, squirming in your seat, heat in all three stories were off the charts!
