From virgin to courtesan in 10 nights? Was Leah even willing to consider it?
After graduation, twenty-four-year-old Leah was determined that no man would destroy her plans for the future. Or so she thought. Her best laid plans and well-ordered life were turned head over heels after her best friend, Janie, invited her to a "coming-out" party.
One look at Rhett and all previous thoughts went straight to hell. He made an unbelievable offer to her: "Give me 10 nights and I'll show you pleasure beyond your wildest dreams."
Was this an invitation to paradise or would his request destroy her mind, body and soul?

In spite of everything, I did enjoy reading, don't know why. Herşeye rağmen kitabı sevdim, nedendir bilinmez.
I started out truly enjoying this book. The basis of a young inexperienced girl being "trained" by someone so worldly, rich and sexy was tantalizing, and the sexual situations were sexy until..... Until they weren't.
I am not that familiar with the BDSM theme but in the few I have read I haven't encountered a book yet where the line of consent became so scarily grey. There were multiple forced sexual situations that went beyond taming and straight into abuse/ rape. The first few nights were intense yet exhilarating, but I was worried...wasn't this a girl with no sexual experience? Again, I'm not that familiar, but I thought the whole basis of a Dom/sub relationship was trust. Could Leah have trusted Rhett after he forced her to participate in a m/f/m full sex act? She says no. He says you cant say no. And yet due to her inexperience and conditioning she stays with him out desperation when he tells her he will abandon her if she uses her safe words. Being humiliated and abused in front of a board room of Rhett's employees couldn't have made her feel sexy ? Could it? We are talking about a girl that was a virgin week before..... The poor girl walks around in a fog of shame and humilation but still makes herself stay with him, even admitting that she is starting to hate herself !!! WTF And then then he simulates a rape scene, attacking her when she is unaware and unprepared...
I was not feeling the sexiness of this book at all. And apparently neither was Leah, 8 days with this guy and she lands up in a catatonic state in need of psychiatric care. Yeah thats sexy....
All in all, this book wasn't for me. In fact I believe it requires a WARNING of forced sex, dubious consent and rape scenes and these should be posted within the blurb. Readers should be made aware of what they are getting themselves into.
And lastly: I HATED Rhett. He was an abusive, motherfucking, piece of shit, prick bastard.
"And never again would he allow another man to touch her." Hey dickweed! You already did!
This book just wasn't for me, I struggled to finish it. But I'm one of those people who has to try and make it to the very end. I was hating Leah, yet feeling sorry for her at the same time. I found it difficult to buy into the fact that being a 24 year old virgin, she would be that accepting of the situations to which she was exposed. (I admit to screaming the safe word for her a couple times.) I can understand her being curious, but she had absolutely no interest at all in men or dating prior to this 10 night escapade. The real question that bothered me was, why did Leah feel like SHE needed to initiate the apology between them? Hello! He pushed you - you didn't him! All she did was open his eyes to this thing called reality.
And Rhett, he was just an out of control, alpha male Dominant who couldn't deal with real feelings, resulting in him placing Leah in some very undesirable situations. I have NEVER, in all of my reads, read about a Dominant who purposely placed a noobie submissive into such emotionally damaging situations! How could I honestly believe the author when she states the man has years of experience under his belt when he could not even remember to put Leah's well-being first? Tsk-tsk. Leah being Leah and wanting to please him, continued to allow him to push her way beyond her comfort zone because of his threats. Did he push his own limits too? Yes. But his 'limit pushing' did not come till the end, which was the only thing saving this book from getting 1 star. So one minute the butterflies in my stomach would start fluttering whenever he would call her "sweetheart" ..but then those same butterflies would hit the bug-zapper known as 'Rhett's stupidity' and die faster then my love for him could pick back up. By the end of the book, I lost what little respect I had, if any, for both characters. I wanted to grab a hold of Leah and slap some sense into her and then turn around and shove Rhett onto the floor as he did Leah when she would not comply with a woman touching her (obviously it was a hard-limit for her) and Rhett said, as quote: "If you can't be what I need, Leah, I'll find someone who can." I'm not a violent person, by the way. :)
And lastly, NO ONE WARNED ME IT WAS MENAGE. Is this what made me feel so strongly against this book? Maybe. I just know the menage aspect would not of affected so much if Rhett would not of been sitting through the whole 'threesome-fun' thinking, "I do not want another man than me touching her." Ugh! He could of stopped it at any moment, but instead thinks it was what she needed..Oh yes Rhett. Crying on the bathroom floor for hours, feeling like a slut, is exactly what she needed.
I urge anyone who picks this up to keep an open mind. It is not a book to run from, but it's not a book that will be easily except by those who have read many BDSM.
Wow! I think this is the 1st or 2nd time I've given a book only 1 star. This book just wasn't for me, I struggled to finish it. But I'm one of those people who has to try and make it to the very end. I was hating Leah, yet feeling sorry for her at the same time. I found it difficult to buy into the fact that being a 24 year old virgin, she would be that accepting of the situation to which she was exposed. I can understand her being curious, but she had absolutely no interest at all in men or dating prior to above-mentioned situation. And Rhett, he was just an out of control, alpha male Dominant who couldn't deal with real feelings, resulting in him placing Leah in some very undesirable situations. Leah being Leah and wanting to please him, continued to allow him to humiliate her way beyond her comfort zone because of his threats. By the end of the book, I lost what little respect I had, if any, for both characters.
I'm not very knowledgeable regarding the BDSM scene, but from what little I've learned, I was under the impression that the Dominant truly cares for and protects his submissive, making sure she feels safe. And while pushing limits is generally acceptable among both parties, I also thought the purpose of a safe word was to stop when a submissive doesn't feel that safety or protection. However, in this story, Rhett informed Leah if she used her safe word, their so-called relationship (and I use that term loosely) would cease immediately. Rhett didn't appear to me to be a responsible Dominant. Maybe he allowed his confusing feelings for Leah to diminish him in this capacity. But I didn't care for how he treated her throughout her training.
I admit that I'm a smut lover, but I do need loveable characters and romance with my smut, and this story wasn't the least bit romantic in my opinion, nor was I able to connect with the characters. Like I said, this book just wasn't for me.
This was an interesting read. Im still not completely sure how I feel about this book. It was a cross between Fifty Shades and Bared to You, but the parts that neither of those books showed you. I enjoyed the writing style and the story in general but I found Rhett, the main male character, to be extremely manipulative and Leah, the female lead, to be a complete push over. She almost never stood up for herself and did whatever he told her to do. I found myself liking the two supporting characters better the then two main ones. I'm hoping that Michelle and Karl follow this book with one about David and Janine. There were a couple of scenes in the book where I was like WHAT!!!!! The two scenes that come to mind are the rape scene and the one where he made her have sex with him in front of his business partners and was calling her a slut and a whore, which I thought was wrong because she was doing what he wanted her to do. But all in all I would love to read more from these two authors.

This book invoked strong reactions in me.If you are eagerly wanting to read the book be warned, this review contains spoilers. I felt like I just wasted 4 hours of my life on this book. Never have I ever been so appalled by any book. The only reason why I did not stop reading was because, I have this OCD thing where I can't put down a book without finishing it and that's also a reason why I'm writing a review of this at 2 in the morning.
The heroine Leah is probably one of the most spineless heroine ever written. She's a 24 year old graduate who's also a virgin. On the day of her graduation, her best friend Janie decides to take her out to an exclusive party in a beautiful house. She meets David who is Janie's boyfriend. Leah finds out that the Janie is a submissive. I think I would pretty sure go into shock when my best friend walks into a BDSM party naked. But no! Leah takes it all in a stride and she gets turned on watching. She wants to go back where she runs into Rhett who convinces her to watch more. Rhett takes interest in Leah. He wants her to spend 10 nights with him so that he can introduce her to BDSM.He gives her two safewords 'yellow' and 'red' with an understanding that if she uses 'red', he will stop mentoring her. There's one small problem and it's that Leah is a virgin.
It did feel a bit like that scene from 'Fifty shades of Grey', the difference being that I had actually enjoyed the scene between Christian and Ana. I feel like Rhett is an asshole. I hate him from the bottom of my heart. He slowly starts meddling in Leah's life by wiring 10,000$ into her bank account and randomly giving her a car. Leah defies Rhett and he tortures her. He even admits to himself that he might have been a bit cruel. Leah's reaction shocks me! She realizes that she's in love with Rhett.!!! I seriously thought she was brain dead..! Rhett gets to know about Leah's feeling through Janie and he wants Leah to move in with him after the 10 nights and be his slave. Yes, you heard me! Not lover not mistress but a Slave who would'nt have any freedom at all. Rhett was kinda put off when Leah did not agree to the suggestion immediately. I mean Rhett!! Are you so dense?? Which right minded person would want to give up their freedom and be a slave..!Rhett pierces Leah's clitoral hood without even asking her permission. I mean who does that.???This guy is such an A grade asshole..! The best part, instead of smacking Rhett on the head, Leah loves it. Her reaction is too unreal for me.
Rhett takes Leah off to Mexico along with David and Janie. Rhett starts to feel something for Leah and that's were the trouble starts. In order to relieve himself of the emotions, he plans to share her with another Dom. I felt like flinging my laptop. Rhett is her Dom and I thought that the subs have all the power. She said no and instead of backing off, he did forces her to have sex with another Dom. My disgust for Rhett deepened significantly. Leah goes home and cries but still endeavours to go through the nights. Rhett takes her to Domme's house and tries to give her a taste of being dominant. Much to his happiness, Leah has not a single dominant bone in her body. On the last day in Mexico, he takes her to his office meeting and fucks her in front of his partners and staff. I did not get what is the basis of Leah's behaviour. She's clearly uncomfortable doing all this, but she does it for him.
On the 9th night, Rhett is running late in office and instructs Leah to sleep wearing nothing. In the middle of the night, she feels somebody touching her and she realizes that she's being raped and she fights the intruder. She then realizes that it's Rhett and she finally uses 'red' wherein Rhett stops the scene and Leah finally yells at him. She goes home and starts crying her heart out and that's how David and Janie find Leah. When David goes to touch Leah, she flies off the rocker and goes to a catatonic state. David dials Sylvia who's a sub and psychiatrist.
You'd probably think that Leah has finally gotten into her senses and leaves Rhett for good. But that's not what happens, she tries making excuses for him and she's thinks that she's over reacted and its her fault. I wanted to strangle the author at this point. Leah talks to Rhett and agrees to meet him. When she reaches his home, he's setup an elaborate proposal. Wait for it!! He wants to marry her..! He hasn't even dated her properly and he wants to marry her. The spineless heroine of course accepts his proposal. The end.
I felt that this book was trying to convey that sex is the most important aspect in life. As long as the sex is good and the guy is rich, nothing else matters even if the guy's an abuser. I agree that sex is something important, but there are other things like trust, fidelity, companionship and love which are truly important. There's not a single redeeming quality in both the main characters. Rhett is my most hated so-called hero hands down and Leah sucks as a heroine. The sex scenes did not turn me on, I skimmed through most of them. There's a sequel for this book which I'm not going to read.Probably one of the most appalling books that I've ever had the misfortune to read.
Well this book ROCKED my little world! I will start with what I loved, that was it was dark, very dark but you could see the light under the door peeking in like bright sunshine. I loved that the main characters Leah and her best friend Janie were normal college grads who did not need a shrink or medication. Also the male leads Rhett (what a friggin name huh?) and his best friend and partner in his law firm, David, also totally normal guys.
The story starts with Janie and Leah graduating. Once they were done with the ceremony Janie tells Leah that they are getting dressed up for her big surprise. What Janie doesn't say is that she is going to her boyfriend's favorite club. They arrive at the mansion and are escorted to the dungeon by a butler. They meet Rhett and Janie takes off with David. Rhett takes her into the main room where bdsm scenes are enacted, one stars Janie. She is scared and shocked. A few moments of watching is all Leah needs and she wants to bolt. Rhett stops her and entertains her for a while. After the little talk about what an exclusive club it is and that privacy is a must, they go back. Rhett is asking her how she feels and if she is interested and they talk about her being aroused by what she saw. Especially her friend. She had no idea that Janie was a sub.
That is another thing I LOVED! Also, the way Rhett's POV is spoken he is so attracted to Leah immediately and he is the opposite of what a Dom is, he has patience and he is kind to her and doesn't judge. All of this first night was just unreal and like nothing I ever read describing scenes.
When Rhett goes into his office and Leah listens as he speaks about his plans. He explains to her that if she wants he can train her as long as she give him 10 nights. Each night a new pleasure is introduced and this is to open her up to the lifestyle. Leah does agree in deep lust for Rhett. They also discuss that she is a virgin. Yup shocked too!! So when they actually get down to it he is gentle but it is not overly dramatic like other books I have read. He cares, yes but it is not over the top, it is completely in line with his dom position.
The ups and down with all four of the lead characters I found written so well. There was a few times that I felt like I was going to cry for Leah. That being said what transpires between Janie and Leah is real friendship. They love each other and express that even though they love each other, but hate the situation, they support each other. That was so real!! There were times when Janie wanted to go to Rhett and beat his ass, but she respected her friend and trusted her to do what she wanted and was there for support.
The other love for me was how Leah appreciated Rhett for him showing her a world that fascinated and drew her in. She knew right away she had strong feelings for Rhett and she knew it before they actually started their arrangement. In time Rhett reveals his feelings in many ways with many gifts but again not over the top. You never get the feeling that he is trying to buy her, own her, or control her outside the bedroom, she is still her own person.
Now I admit that this is the ONE book I would read again. I don't say that ever! This was exactly what I love to read! Steam lots and lots of steam but as far as the scenes, they were not over the top and this was a very easy read.
I hate to be this negative about a book; however, this book was really, truly terrible. I hated from the start and really had to force myself to read just on the off chance that it got better. It didn't! There was absolute no character development, no story or plot development, and no reason to like or express an interest in any of the characters. It has been a long time since I have read something this distasteful. And to think that there is supposed to be more to the series, frankly, makes me sick to my stomach. I could not even image why I would spend any more money on this ridicules story line when the truth is I deserve a credit for the $3.99 that I paid for this ebook. I have completely deleted from for library because I get upset every time I scroll by and see it!
Honestly, I wasn't sure at first that I was even going to take a stab at reviewing 10 NIGHTS. I mean, BDSM erotica just isn't my genre -- and I truly have NOTHING that I can use as a basis of comparison. Like, I'm not even kidding when I say that I usually skip over even the tamest sex scenes in novels -- they just really don't interest me or hold my attention in the least.
So, why, you may ask, did I even take on the feat of reading 10 NIGHTS?
Well, I've been curious for a while as to whether or not I should bother with the 50 SHADES trilogy. Again, it's really not my genre, but at the same time I like to read whatever is big and hot at the moment, if for no other reason than to be able to have rational conversation about something I've experienced for myself. A friend of mine found this e-book on Goodreads and advised that I give it a shot, assuring me that if I could handle this one that the 50 SHADES series would be a piece of cake.
Now, where do I begin in reviewing this?!
Let's just start with plot. Leah, a recent college grad, is a complete and utter virgin. Her best friend Janie, on the other hand, is open about the fact that she is quite sexually experienced -- except, she hasn't been telling her best friend everything, exactly. So, one day Janie breaks the news to Leah that she she partakes of hardcore BDSM with her new boyfriend, who takes her to the "dungeon" of a mansion and does inexplicable things that can only be explained by letting Leah see the place with her own eyes.
Leah is ashamed to admit that she is strangely turned on by the whips and chains, along with the notion of being a sexual submissive to an ultimate alpha male. Needless to say, Janie is shocked when her virgin friend decides that she too would like to partake of the BDSM experience...
So in comes Rhett -- a studly, beefy hardcore dominant who makes Leah a proposal. She will submit to him for 10 nights, making herself his temporary sexual slave, addressing him always as Sir, and doing EVERYTHING he asks, no matter how freaky or crazy it may sound. The two will establish a safe word, of course, but outside this word, NOTHING is off limits. The moment Leah utters the safe word, the 10 nights will end and the experience will be over.
Leah jumps in head first, agreeing to a range of unthinkable activities that range from being tied up and whipped in private to being publically pleasured, naked, in a corporate meeting setting. Feeling an unexplained mixture of embarrassment and excitement, Leah struggles to successfully complete the 10 nights -- and along the way, she even finds herself falling in love with Rhett. Can she explore her newfound sexuality without having her delicate heart crushed by a raging BDSM dominant?
I can't deny that the premise was intriguing. Even if I had a hard time believing that a virgin would willingly subject herself to the sexual circus that she experienced in the "dungeon," I was interested in the sociological concept of a young woman immersing herself in an environment so completely unfamiliar to anything she had previously experienced. And while I was definitely doubtful that the character could really feel any true feelings of love for this aggressive man, beyond either the excitement of a completely new situation or the Stockholm type feelings towards a man that could really be perceived as physically and emotionally abusive, I still wanted to give the story a fair chance to play out and convince me otherwise.
Now, as someone who hasn't really had a lot of experience with literary sex scenes, I must admit that the sexual segments of this story (which are, of course, frequent and heavy in nature) seemed extremely graphic and almost painful at times. Having never read anything relating to BSDM activity, of course, I have nothing by which to measure this novel to determine whether this level of "abuse" is normal -- but there were definitely parts that almost felt uncomfortable to me as a reader. I mean, the scenes where Rhett manipulated her into avoiding her safe word, having Leah feel that she had no choice in escaping the situation? Intentionally humiliating her in the middle of a corporate meeting? Simulating a rape scenario without giving her any forewarning of the events to come? As an inexperienced reader, I found myself wanting to cry "abuse" rather than pleasure -- which made the ending particularly disappointing to me. Of course, if you've read my previous reviews, you know that I'm a sucker for the total opposite of a happily-ever-after -- so I was wanting something a bit more ambiguous and more focused on Leah's self-discovery than on what Rhett ended up doing in the end...
My only other issue was this novel was the frequency of typos, punctuation errors, and grammatical mistakes that really just tend to drive me crazy. I'd love to see the author go through and clean these up because it's really disappointing to let small mistakes taint what might otherwise be a decent story.
But, to be honest, I definitely did enjoy 10 NIGHTS more than I ever expected. I, obviously, would not recommend this to anyone who isn't aware from the start that they are entering a world of BDSM madness, complete with graphic language and sexist situations. But for those who can handle an X-rated novel, 10 NIGHTS is interesting enough to deserve a fair shot.
I wanted to like this book, but found myself rolling my eyes at the overly detailed descriptions in many parts. I don't really care to read a characters detailed processes down to the the brushing of their teeth.
By the end of the story, I was ready to chuck my reader at the wall. Overall a disappointment.
Leah is a recent graduate who has no interest in losing her virginity. She has no respect for men because of how her father treated her mom. Her best friend is Janie, who lives life for both of them. Leah's greatest worry is finding a job until Janie takes her to an after-grad party that changes everything.
This is the night for Janie to share her only secret with Leah. She has a boyfriend and is into the BDSM lifestyle. Leah is shocked and overwhelmed at what she is seeing in the dungeon. Even worse is the way her body responds with excitement. Unable to deal with all of her desires she runs from the party and into the first man she has ever found desirable.
Rhett finds himself uncharacteristically drawn to this girl and decides he wants her as his pet. He makes Leah an offer of 10 nights to surrender to him and experience pleasure. She immediately wants to accept but agrees to spend the night thinking it over and discussing with Janie. When Rhett is informed of Leah's innocence he finds it even harder to let her go home for even one night.
Of course Leah accepts even though she is terrified of the unknowing. They spend the first evening discussing the details and agreeing with the use of safe words until she discovers her limits. They agree to start the 10 nights tomorrow and take care of her virginity tonight.
I found myself being swept up into their feelings and experiences and at the same time thinking no one can be that submissive. Leah is determined to finish the 10 nights no matter how hard Rhett pushes her or forces her to experience things she has no desire for. He even questions himself several times but continues full speed ahead. I found myself wanting to smack them both and tell them to discuss things, but Rhett is all dominant and refuses to allow his feelings to get involved.
When Rhett pushes to far he breaks something inside of Leah and she finally uses her safe word to get away. Her heart is broken and still longs for Rhett even if she doesn't like him right now. This situation finally opens Rhett's heart and mind to how much he truly feels for Leah. When he realizes theses feelings are love he decides he will surrender himself to be whatever she needs him to be. She also decides she cannot just walk away and agrees to meet and discuss their relationship. Together they can see what they have together and what they need from each other.
I am anxious for the next book and I hope they have a healthier relationship. I loved the story and characters. My favorite was the relationship between David and Janie is a great erotic love story. I liked the fantasy role playing and the BDSM scenes were hot.
Copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I was really turned on by the premise of this book. I love the theme of strong alpha sexually experienced male taking a young ingenue under his wing to teach her about true pleasure. The first half of the book, that dealt with Leah learning of the lifestyle, meeting with Rhett and the first couple of days, were great. Very hot scenes that make you squirm to read them. It definitely took the idea of Fifty Shades to a whole new (way more intense) level. But, then about halfway through, the feel of the book took a complete turn and I was left with a horrible taste in my mouth. I've read some pretty hard-core BDSM romance novels, but they were still romance novels. While this one seemed like that's what it was going for, it was way too harsh in my opinion, with multiple scenes bordering on rape. Because basically that's what it is when you blackmail someone into not using their safe word for fear that you'll abandon them. The "love" between the main characters felt more like Stockholm Syndrome than true love and very very rushed. I found it very difficult to believe that either one of these characters would truly love the other after just a few nights together. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who are turned on by that type of relationship, and if you are looking for a true BDSM novel that isn't really about the romance, than you will probably enjoy this book. There are more than a few typos and grammatical mistakes that will hopefully be fixed by a really good editor and the characters referred to each other as "Honey" or "Sweetheart" more than by their actual names and they were always (incorrectly) capitalized, which became very distracting. I think there is an audience for this book, I regret that it just wasn't me.
2.5/5 stars.
Note: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I wanted to like this book, I truly did, however it was choppy and the ending was extremely abrupt. I know that this is fiction, I appreciate that but the ending was as unrealistic as unicorns and trolls. A woman that has just been "play raped" and is in a catatonic state runs back into the arms of the man and agrees to marry him without huge discussion on what occurred? Let's be real that if someone actually did that it would mean they had HUGE mental health/self-esteem issues that would need to be addressed. If the authors had addressed the ending and made it more believable instead of trying to make it into a fairytale I would have given this book at least 3 stars if not more.
Any fans of the Fifty Shades series will love this book, be warned though, it is quite darker than the afore mentioned books.
On the eve of their graduation Janie makes the decision to introduce her best friend Leah to the "lifestyle" she has led in secret for these past 2 years. Thrown head first into the BDSM world Leah, quite literally, falls into the arms of the tall/dark/handsome Dom, Rhett. Smitten by her innocence, Rhett makes Leah an offer; 10 Nights. Neither party knew what the results of his indecent proposal would be. In the end will Leah be able to consent total control of herself to the dashing control freak she grows more fond of every day? Will dominate Rhett be able to concede he cares more for his beautifull, innocent Leah than he's willing to admit?
All the while this "relationship" between Rhett and Leah plays out, we have the best friend relationship with Janie to add some realism to the story. Then we have Janie's relationship with her Dom, David, to add some depth. Janie and David are everything that Leah and Rhett are not; or are they?
This was definitely a steamy novel, a rollorcoaster ride of emotions for our young and inexperienced leading lady, Leah. She has backbone though, which I loved! Becoming Rhett's submissive means learning to hold her tongue, she picks just the right moments to let that sarcasim slip, making the story all the more juicy. The pairing of Huges and Jones has delivered a sexy, erotic love story bound with bondage.
I enjoyed this reading. However, I have several issues with this book: The first is it being filled to the gills with cliches. We all like romance and sometimes even the tacky descriptions of emotions and body parts, but come on. Second would be the damn safe word. A safe word is supposed to be used during scene play if the submissive is not willing to take it further and willing it to stop. It should be used as a threat. Safe wording that results in cutting off a relationship makes absofuckinglutely no sense. That would be like telling the sub: all or nothing. Third thing that pissed me off is again, the innocence. The girl may have been inexperience, but she jumped in with wide open eyes, knowing full well what she's doing. Using her innocence to satisfy your own fantasies and following your "10 nights formula" doesn't always work. And it kind of blew up in Rhett's face. Rhett's willingness to ignore his nature and giving up being a Dom so that he'll get the girl? Nuh uh! Doesn't work that way. If it did, the guy wouldn't be a Dominant. Rings a bell? 45, 46, 47, 48, 49,... The last thing is her having absolutely no spine when she came to him TO TALK that last night. You had issues you wanted to discuss, you don't just blow them away because he's down on one knee proposing!
Having said that, it was very well written (although the British and American English mix was a little weird, that's why there are editors - use them) and the storyline flowed well.
In lieu of disclosure, Michelle is my daughter but that isn't stopping me from giving my opinion about 10 Nights. I received the book as a birthday present and it definitely exceeded my expectations. Not that I didn't know my daughter could write, but because it was so full of sensuality and the emotions were dripping off it in droves.
This books follows Leah, a young college graduate that meets Rhett, a business tycoon who gives her an outrageous offer. He asks her to give up ten nights of her life to him and promises to open her eyes about her sexuality in ways she'd never thought of before.
As a mom of three adult daughters I didn't think a book could make me blush, but I was proven wrong. Those ten nights were some of the most erotic situations I've ever read about and I admit I was shocked at how indepth those scenes were. That being said the romance behind the book will leave you in tears. It's emotional, sexy, and will make you feel things you might not have felt in some time.
This book wasn't very good. The writing is kind of boring and monotonous, to be honest. Leah and Janie are annoying and Rhett is a disrespectful asshole. And that's pretty much the whole book since it's only 10 days.
I didn't want to do a review for a book this bad in a long time. Just so I can warn people ahead of time not to read this book. There are so many things wrong with this book that I think if I make a list, it would go on foreverrr. I am just going to go ahead and talk about all the things that bothered me, about 10 Nights. Here we go!!!
Just a warning, there are going to be spoilers!
Even if it all those things weren't wrong with this book, It takes serious love and caring for a person to wanna be married to them. How can you wanna marry some one after 10 dayss???? specially someone who treated you sooo badly, degraded you, humiliated you, didn't even give a shit about you to actually get to know you beyond your name and where you live. Someone who never took your feelings in to consideration, Someone you know nothing about, Someone who wanted you as his full time submissive/slave (his actual words) after the 10 day period was over. Like common!!!! AND the proposal it self was so impersonal and stupid. I could come with a better proposal while half asleep. How fucking unbelievable is this story! I honestly don't even know why I finished, but I can guarantee, I will not be reading the next in this series. I am kind of curious to see the cluster fuck the next one will be, but I think this one was torture enough. I am sorry If I offended anyone with this review, Its my opinion and well IF you don't like it, then I am sorry. Its just the way it is. I know many people liked this book and even gave it 4 to 5 stars but its just not my cup of tea. It didn't sit well with me. Like they say to each their own!
With that I am gonna end this review, because it went on long enough. This is the longest review I have ever written and I still feel like I have more to say. I am gonna stop though. Hope you liked my review and would take it in to consideration before reading this book.
Let me start by saying this is one of my first elaborate reviews on Goodreads, so bear with me. But after reading this book, I just had to get some things out.
Wow. I have read quite a few BDSM books now, and although I'm certainly not an expert, I would call myself more well-mannered than Rhett. The book started out fine, with a rich hero, a shy cute 24yr old virgin and an interesting proposal. However, as an experienced dom training a virgin to become a submissive, Rhett just sucks. I've read more than one book on this type of relationship, and it is always about trust. The submissive should have the power to stop any and all acticities with a safeword should she feel uncomfortable.
In this book however, Rhett made sure Leah wouldn't do that by adding a rule to using her safeword. Their 'relationship' would immediately end. Leah is in love with Rhett, and he is aware of this and obviously uses this to his advantage. Although a dominant should test and/or push boundaries, here he pushes her beyond her limits. That is literally what he says. Limits are limits for a reason!! And he should be able to read her emotions. Leah was ready to safeword, but Rhett made sure she doesn't by threatening her.
This also goed for (semi) permanent marks on her body. You don't pierce someone without their knowledge and consent! And you definitely do not act out All in all, I was very dissappointed to see how the BDSM was portrayed, although I really enjoyed Janie and David and their relationship. They showed a healthy relationship, built on respect and trust.
I really enjoy reading BDSM books, when they show the proper amount of trust and respect. This book did neither. The concept is good, it just shows a completely unhealthy D/s relationship, which I did not enjoy. If you are into these type of books, look further. Some great examples of easing someone into the lifestyle:Awakening Submissive Beauty
Edit:
I have just seen and taken the BDSM quiz that is on this page, created by the author. Although the first question does not have the right answer (which should be Bondage&Discipline, Dominance&Submission and Sadism&Masochism), the other questions show that she does understand what is important in BDSM relationships (The safe, sane and consensual principle for example). Why not apply that to the book!
I was dissapointed when I finished the book.In the beginning I was like but when the end came disapointment was what I felt.
They started it so well and then they fucked up it. I was expecting ten hot nights that never came. I wanted the good BDSM stuff that must have gotten lost somewhere because Rhett is supposed to be one experienced dom,the dom where others with less experience turned when they were seeking advice and someone who trained many subs. Also, if not all than the majority of the sex happened in bed, even though he had a dungeon. After the 7th night things got ugly and I lost every good feeling I had for the book. I will also like to add the change between the POV's was confusing sometimes and it was about 5 different people (David,Janie,Rhett,Leah and Manuel).
And now let's see how 10 nights is copying 50 shades of grey.
1) Hot, rich, dom male, who from the first time he sees her knows that he has to have her on her knees as his sub. 2) Just out of college, with only a few days/weeks on her current job and then free to work wherever she wants, staying with her best met in the college friend's house and her family doesn't have much money girl for a heroine. 3) Her car which is a death trap, is being replaced by Rhett as soon as he sees it. 4) Expensive gifts are given to Leah. And 5) Doms trains, sub, feels things that he couldn't imagine he would feel and proposes after a short time.
So you can see why when I was reading this book I had in my mind 50SoG
The title contains: M/F M/F/M scenes, explicit language,BDSM and a dom who puts his sub into the craziest emotional roller coaster and pressures her when everybody knows that a dom should calm a sub and help her get over some things.
"Domination's the name of the game In bed or in life They're both just the same Except in one you're fulfilled At the end of the day Let's play master and servant"
You know when I first started reading this I was thinking 'okay, lets do this, lets get this party started' We have Leah who at 24 is a virgin, no big deal. Her dad was a lousy jerk who left her mom so she doesn't really care for relationships. She meets Rhett, a Dom who wants to train her.
Then as the story moves on, I'm finding I just want the story to move on. I'm sick of Leah. I'm sorry but I couldn't connect to her. Rhett I could handle, for awhile, but then things kinda got a bit out of hand and well I'm over him too.
I can see why people like it and don't get me wrong I didn't hate it. I didn't mind it, I found myself glued to the book.
And now for a little bit of Master and Servant by Hate Dept. (Originally by Depeche Mode)
I'm not sure why this book is getting so many comments about being similar to Fifty Shades, unless its simply because of the BDSM elements. I really had a hard time getting into this book because I really didn't like the leading man-Rhett. I love my books with the "smut" factor which this one definitely has, but its got to have the "romance" factor for me to love it and this one just didn't have it for me. Rhett came off as self centered and selfish to me. Leah was young and inexperienced and she was upfront with him before they ever became involved. He put her into some situations that I thought were cruel and although he professed to have feelings for her and considered her "his" his actions didn't portray it.
This book had me from the jump start. It took me on one hell of a ride!! I didn't know what to expect and I don't think I can keep count of how many "wtf's" and jaw droppings this book had me do. One minute I'm like "woah" and the next minute I'm like "wtf?! Oh hell no". I wouldnt have been able to do the 10 nights lol some of the scenes were just "uh-uh" for me and I was getting mad at both Leah and Rhett... like "wtf! really?!" ahahahahaha... The ending had me at mixed feelings. Overall this book was a great read!!
I hate to say this, but I have to agree with some of the reviewers for this book, "10 Nights" just wasn't fantastic.
It was Ok, but just not worthy of the time that I have available to read (outside of work and school).
The main female character, in my opinion, was stupid, and the DOM should have been slapped and made to submit. Overall, personally I didn't like the premise nor the flow of the book.
Although I gave up and didn't finish it, I thought that it was halfway decent...
This book had me saying, "omg!", "wtf!," "what is he thinking?", what an asshole", "ohh hell no i wouldn't do that!" and more. I don't know if I can ever do those 10 nights because it was so intense and disgusting. I would have probably shouted RED on the first night. Lol! The characters were totally pissing me off the whole time I was reading because of the lack of control and stubbornness!!! uhhhhhhh! but overall, this book was a great read.
WOW!!! This makes Fifty Shades read like a Disney story! I felt shocked, sad, happy, confused, humiliated.....the list goes on. The editing on it was not very good though, often making it confusing to read, so that why I only gave it 4 stars. I would love to find out of he changed, how Janie reacted to the news and generally how life took off from Night 10. I hope there will be a second book!
Immediate thoughts.......the first 50% reeked of Fifty Shades. The next 25% was so fucked up she left him. The last 25% unplausible. She agrees to go back and see him AND of course being the 10th move, agrees to marry him, wtf!
This was quite the read, I want to say that overall I enjoyed the book, it was fast, it was furious, and intriguing at the same time. Now I think that over the past few months my library of erotica and BDSM stories have grown, and its easy for all the stories to get jumbled up together, but 10 nights will stand out in my mind. I think the characters were for the most part more than 2-dimnesional, it is clear that there is thought in each of them. Now, I have to say that for the majority of the book while I didn’t agree with the lead female character’s decisions, the majority of them were realistic.
The writing style lent itself to a book where I wasn’t always frustrated with the main characters and their decisions. I think that having a style in which we get into the heads of nearly all of the characters does make the book one that is a bit easier to understand, and one that flows a little bit better. I enjoyed the way the each of the chapters were named as well, its small but I think having that extra touch makes reading more enjoyable, and it also makes me want to read especially with chapter titles like; Control, Paradise, Barely Living, etc. there was just a little bit of mystery in there that kept me turning the pages.
Rhett as a main male character is a bottle of contradictions. But I have to admit even with his Dom persona, and some really strange sex things in there, I think I like him. He is no holds bard that is for sure, but this is the lifestyle that he chooses to embrace, and while some of the scenes in these nights were extreme, I still think that he was looking for a woman who was willing to stay thru those 10 nights, now while I personally don’t think I could do such a thing, I don’t think he was wrong to put Leah or any of the woman who was willing through the 10 nights, and give them a hard line. Rhett told Leah that if she used her safe word at any time, during any scene during their time together, he would end the entire thing with her. Now while I believe Leah took that to mean that she would have to endure anything that he threw I her, I took it to mean that he couldn’t see himself with someone who wouldn’t stay.
Now Leah was in herself a character that I thought would easily get annoying, and I would be frustrated with. But I ended up liking her for most of the book. When we are told that we should not judge someone by one decision they make, I think that applies to Leah for sure. But I think that many of her decisions were just plainly, wrong and stupid. Having said that, I also loved how resilient she was, while she did fall for this guy, there was something in her, that was unwilling to completely submit, and throughout several of her experiences it was clear that she knew that she had an out, and she was choosing not to use it. Now while some people may’ve seen this as stupid, I saw it as powerful, while she feared losing Rhett, I also think that she knew that he was teaching her some valuable things about herself as well, he was pushing her, and several times throughout the book, as he pushed, she pushed back, and I think she grew in the process. That said there are battles that we win and battles that we lose, and I think that she is fighting a losing one, and while I’m excited to read the next book, I don’t know how she’s gonna come out from this one.
Janie who is Leah’s best friend and the person who introduces her to the BDSM lifestyle is such a sweetie, I feel that she’s the kind of best friend that I like. She is honest, and she tries her best to advise Leah when she things going wrong, at the same time it is clear that she knows her best bud very well, and so she is also a great source of comfort and support for Leah .David is another character who I liked, and who I thought was realistic, he is the best friend of Rhett, and Leah’s bf, and DOM and in David there is a clear balance between Dom life, and real life, and it’s refreshing to see such a relationship in a book with a topic such as this one.
So, why four stars? Well I think it is a 3.5 star book, but I promised a star (fine half a star) for tying that cover in with the story, and the way it is tied is awesome, I loved that little bit with the chess pieces, it was great. I do recommend this book, especially to those who enjoyed Fifty Shades, or even those who hated it but like erotic BDSM reads, I think this one is pretty authentic, and I think most would enjoy it.
Leah is a 24 year old virgin. Her best friend Janie introduces her to the BSDM lifestyle, hoping that Leah will accept it and still love her. It's there that Leah meets Rhett. Rhett is a 37 year old (rich) lawyer and a Dom. That's all we know about him really. Even at the end, that's still all we know, (problem one for me, not enough depth to the main character).
Rhett makes her an offer... Ten nights with him. "You will surrender your body to me, and I will show you pleasures like you have never known."
Of course she accepts! Who wouldn't? Things start off pretty well, but there's a big difference between the women Rhett usually deals with and Leah. He doesn't adjust his Ten Night plan enough (for her, a virgin) and pretty soon the cracks start to show.
It's so hard to judge the way I feel about Rhett, I have so many conflicting emotions. At times, I was pretty disgusted with the way he treated her or by the way he thrust her into awful situations. But then I had to remind myself that the women are usually the ones that come to him. They also come to him as experienced subs. They just want him specifically, to teach them more. Also the contract/details are ironed out in the beginning... They can tell him exactly what they do and don't like, then he makes up a 10 Night plan, for them specifically. But with her, he has nothing to go on at all and neither does she. That makes it so much harder for them both. Rhett is trying to give her the best experience he can, with no outlines at all. He's never done anything like this before, so I think he deserves to be cut a little slack.
The problem they face is that Leah really likes the whole Dom/Sub thing (in the bedroom), but she also just wants a normal boyfriend. Rhett has fully embraced the Dom lifestyle and all he wants is a woman that is willing to be his slave, permanently! PROBLEM.
There was one scene that actually left me disgusted, to be honest. I hated that Rhett gave her no choice at all in a terrifying situation, but makes her think that he did. Yes, she could have said the safe-words but he knew that she never would. She wouldn't risk losing him. They were hurting her and he was still telling her she had to go through with it. I felt like he was punishing her because he was developing feelings for her. He wanted to prove to himself that his feelings for her were pointless, she could never handle the things he wanted her to do, and she is not the right person for him.
Anyway moving on, I really loved the writing style although a little confusing at first. Have so many subtle points of view enable us to see what others were thinking, the way they felt about the same situations. You knew of their intentions at all times, I really liked that.
The ending, for me was completely ridiculous. After everything they have been through (in the extremely short amount of time), its crystal clear that at the moment that they are awful for each other. They both want completely different things and both seem unwilling to change, to be flexible. As they are, they couldn't possible work out...
Bar the problems I had, I loved reading this book and learning more about the lifestyle. I will definitely be reading the second book in the series.
Thanks again to Shanna, the best Buddy-Reading friend in the world :)
