I was really happy throughout the entire book series. The way the P.B. tells it as if heʻd experienced it all (and he did go through it all). The twists & turns were good and interesting.
Ok, Plot Overveiw
The last book was really a good way to tie it all together. We have Cass, M.E. , and Yo-Yoji going on yet another adventure to protect the Secret from the Midnight Sun. Only, this time, itʻs from an invisible Pharaoh. And Cass finds a scroll to learn the Secret and finds a scroll with it written on it. Unfortunately, it turns to dust and she has to translate what she remembers. Itʻs just pure coincidence that the guy who wrote the Secret is mummified and Cass has a ring that can bring him back to life and then the mummy will tell her the secret. But, just when she thinks that she got lucky, Cass and her friends accidentally break the mummies finger off. Then, they are accused of stealing the mummy after it goes missing. The rest of the book is basically Cass trying to learn the Secret and the kids trying to prove their innocence. Thatʻs the basic thing, but a lot of other stuff happens.
There were somethings that I was not expecting.
Like, the romance issue. Ok, in the third book, itʻs shown that Yo-Yoji is being a bit more polite to Cass. But, in this rendition of the book, you can sort of tell that thereʻs something there . Some things are subtle, but others are things that a half-wit could see. Like, on page 51:
Yo-Yoji glanced at Cass. It was almost as if he didnʻt like the idea of someone else givng her a ring

Or when Cass is in a dress and they awkwardly say how "nice" she looks (good nice or bad nice, I have no clue). Or when Cass is secretly sad that her friends denied marrying her (not sure if thatʻs supposed to be sad, sweet, or weird). Or when Cass does some more girly stuff (hormones, I guess), gets her nails done, and they Boys say how nice it looks. Or when Cass & Yo-Yojis pinkies interlock and he can feel a tingly sensation. Those are all I can recall. If you could squint and find others...
Good for you.
Iʻve never thought of the Secret Series as a Romance book (probably because itʻs not). PB probably only did that to get the attention of readers who want a juicy love triangle (if thatʻs what he was going for). I couldʻve done without it, but (I gotta admit) it does stir up some things I didnʻt realize was there.
And Cass leaves her backpack behind. I mean, she wears it though out the entire series and just takes it off. Itʻs like Lord Voldemort with a nose. Maybe is signifies that sheʻs no longer the strange survivalist girl that was looking for poison in the school grounds. Sheʻs changed and grown up since the first book.
And then thereʻs the whole deal with Dr.L. When he came over the first time, of course, I was suspicious. When it was revealed that he died, I didnʻt really cry. I felt bad, but it wasnʻt a book scene strong enough to make me bawl.
Another thing,
When I thought that the Secret was I joke, I wanted to scream "THATS WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT!?!?! A FLIPPING CHICKEN JOKE THATʻS OLDER THAN MY GRANDMOTHER!?!? THIS IS WHAT THE ENITRE SERIES IS BASED OFF!?!?! OR DID PB JUST FORGET ABOUT THE SECRET AT ALL AND MADE THIS UP!?!?!"
Needless to say, I was mad. Then, I read the rest of the book. It sort of made sense, but it took me four or five reads to fully understand. Even now, Iʻm not sure if I fully understand. I believe that the Secret is the other side of things or to see the other side of something or the Secret is on the other side. Iʻm not 100% sure
Last thing,
I WANT MORE!! I want to see what happened to M.E. and Cass and YO-Yoji and the Teres society. I feel like, even though it feels over, thereʻs something more. Well, hopefully, PB might talk about it in one of his later books. Or at least have a little epilogue about it.
All in all, it was a good book. Nothing much to complain about.

This book is not a five-star book.

This book is a FIVE HUNDRED FRICKING BAZILLION star book.

:D
:D
:D

Okayokayokay. Moving on.

I was so excited when I got this book. I was simply ecstatic. I was not disappointed, not at all. The slight bit of romance I know you all were craving and anticipating actually happened. Just a little. A teeny bit. Obviously the girl in the equation is Cass, but the boy? Sorry folks, not telling. Also don't get your hopes up, it's not THAT much, but it's better than nothing I guess.

And the Secret. Oh, the Secret. Yes, you obviously do learn the Secret, but I of course am not going to tell because why would I ruin the surprise? And yes, it's totally worth a five-book series. Totally. When you get to it, you'll think I'm being sarcastic, but really, I'm not. It's quite perfect.

Kudos to Pseudonymous Bosch for his wonderful self of wonderfulness and all of his useless footnotes. Ah, the footnotes.

To Cass: You're amazing even if you're a liberal. <3 (I'm from Alabama, okay? Liberals get shot down here.)
To Max-Ernest: Thank you for being so funny. Even if you think you're not funny, you really are.
To Yo-Yoji: You're awesome and all but I find it weird how you're Asian yet the only Christian of the trio. Lolz.

I'm sorta sad it ended but I suddenly have this immense craving to write fanfics. And lots of them.

Did you love A Series of Unfortunate Events and wish that there was something, anything, out there like it?

Well, there is, but I can't tell you what it's about. In fact, I can't really recommend the book to you. It's just too risky. But if you're a fan of Lemony Snicket, you might just be strong enough to handle it. Maybe. But remember I warned you...

(Handle what, you ask? I said I can't tell you. I will tell you that you should read these books in order. I shouldn't have told you that, it was too risky - now you'll want to read them! I suppose it couldn't be helped. You WERE going to read them anyway, weren't you?)

My daughter and I read a couple chapters of these books every night before bed. Amazon unfortunately sent us book 5 instead of the book two we requested, but the kiddo said she didn’t want to return it so here we are reading them out of order.

I think they would be better digested in order? So I don’t recommend reading them that way, but they can still be followed along with- each book is it’s own self contained story.

That being said- the secret was kind of a let down! It was a little bit ambiguous, seemed to hint at more but didn’t really give us any reveals.

We still laughed the whole way through, and I think they are clever little books I would recommend for those late Elementary / early middle school years.

The original review is here: http://thereviewsnews.blogspot.com/20...

Also, this review is 4.5 stars, but I always round up.

*Attention: Your reporter, Julianna, is being held under our custody for ruining the secret Secret series that may or may not secretly contain the Secret. In her place we have ask for you to run out and grab as many copies as you can before The Midnight Sun can get their hands on the secretive Secret. Thank you. Resume, if you must, but just as a final cry of help... You Have to Stop This! *

Hey, guys! I'm back! They're watching every word I'm typing, though, so I better be careful before all of my chocolate supply is gone and M- I mean, um, others take it for their own pleasure.

You Have to Stop This is the fifth and final book in the critically acclaimed Secret series by Pseudonymous Bosch. If you haven't read the series yet, the first book is The Name of This Book is Secret. Don't read this book without reading the rest of the series first!

I'll start out by answering the one question that everyone wants to know (AKA the one question that may very well cost my chocolate supply): Do we learn the Secret?

...Yes...
...No...
Kind of.

Here's the thing: I loved this book (hey, look! My chocolate, it's back!). There was just as much suspense, humor, and fun in this book like the other ones in the series. We learn so much more about the characters' backgrounds, and this book was truly astounding--it definitely surpassed my expectations. It's very clever on Mr. Bosch's part to add in his usual footnotes and brief interruptions, which works out well and the reader isn't suddenly jolted out from the story with sudden, certain comics concerning rabbits and cats...

Anyway, this book held my attention throughout its entirety. However, the Secret was just... unexpected. I knew the Secret was something big--that much was obvious--but this time, even surprised doesn't justify my reaction. Truly, I was shocked. In fact, I'm still teetering on the fence about how I felt about it. I do have to applaud Mr. Bosch, though, for taking that one big leap.

Overall, this book was wonderfully written and I enjoyed it greatly. I appreciated Mr. Bosch not wrapping up everything and all the characters' futures in a nice, tidy bow, because the very important theme of this story is the Secret and imagination--and I'm sure we all want to hope for the characters a life they deserve (whether good or bad, that's your call).

What's that? There's a note on my chocolate... its empty wrapper.
*You Have to Stop This!*

Fine. I'll stop. But you better stop stealing my chocolate... hey, give that back!

Short and Simple Review
So the Secret series has come to an end and the Secret is out. No, I'm not going to tell you the Secret. One thing I can say is that opinion on the Secret is divided. Some folks were disappointed with the Secret, others weren't. I'm of the latter. Honestly, I fully expected to never get the Secret. I fully expected the Secret to have been ripped out of the book by Bosch. I also read A Series of Unfortunate Events and was extremely let down by the fact that I got absolutely no answers, just a lead-up to answers. So, I was already on guard and you know what? I am satisfied. I actually think it's kind of funny and completely fits the tone of the series. Also, there were many other things that were answered that had nothing to do with the big Secret because there were other things that were more important. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this series and maybe one day I'll have to reread them when I want to read some fun middle-grade books. I don't know if I'll read the author's other series because I'm not sure how he will translate to another series, but maybe I'll pick it up one day.

Beschreibung

I can't believe I finished this series! I feel empty inside! I found out the secret and learned about an interesting and thrilling adventure. I wish I could read and experience this book for the first time again. I suggest if anyone likes mysteries and fun stories, to read this series. I finished all 5 books in about 3 months! That's not normal for me but I really couldn't put these books down. Some nights I would intend to read for about 20 minutes and end up reading for an hour. I would just get lost and couldn't stop myself. It is said to have this series end but I hope I find another book or books that are just as good!

I had been anxiously waiting for this book, to find the secret, who PB is, what will happen to the midnight sun, and was taken by surprise when it came out. I had preordered this on my Kindle and one day I turned on my Kindle and there it was! Usually I reread a series before reading the new installment, but honestly, I couldnt resist starting it the moment I saw it.
And let me tell you, it did not dissapoint.
The book opens to Cass and Max Ernest walking to the fire house and thats when you get to the first surprise of the book: Her grandpas are having a garage sale... dun dun dun....
Cass remembers that the Jesters chest was in the firehouse so she quickly scrambles around boxes and boxes of stuff to find it. She gets it safely home thank goodness.
This book focuses on Ancient Egypt, the home town of the Secret. Between mummies, museums, magic, and the Midnight Sun ("holy alliteration!") this book will never have a dull moment.
There is even romance and some tears when you say goodbye to Max-Ernest, Cass, and Yo-Yoji for the last time during their middle school graduation. And if Max Ernests garduation speech doesnt make you cry, I dont know what will.
So all in all this was a perfect final installment, especially when you find out who PB is (it was exactly who I thought it was!).
5 stars!

You Have to Stop This
By Pseudonymous Bosch
347 pages

This book is about how Cass learns the Secret. Cass is a secret keeper. She must learn the Secret and not let anyone else know about it. But the evil Lord Pharoah wants to learn the Secret before Cass does. In the story, there is a stolen mummy, an evil brother who dies, and some scary dancers. At the end of the book, Cass figures out that the all powerful Secret is just a silly joke. The Secret is Why did the ibis cross the road. The answer was to get to the other side.

I liked this book becuase it was about a girl who who has done a hard work trying to learn a secret but she figures out that it was a joke. In the end of the book it says that Cass told Max-Ernest, one of her friends, the secret. She told him the secret becuase she thought that the Secret was just a little riddle. I don't think Cass made the right decision becuase that might do something bad to her. She was supposed to not tell anyone about the secret.

This book was amazing. I got done reading it 5 minutes ago and I LOVED it! The end was heart-breaking/bitter-sweet but I think that the end of every book series is sad but *spoilers* Max-Ernest's graduation speach made it even more bitter-sweet * end of spoilers* I wish Mr. Bosch had told us a little more about the main character's future. But the ending was really awesome. The story was AMAZING! It made me laugh (just like the books before it). I loved it! This is one of my favorite series and I am SUPER glad that I got this book on my Nook. I will miss this series now that it is finally over. I'd tell you the plot but I don't want to ruin it for you. Amazing. I really loved this book! I will leave you with these parting words though: Why did the chicken cross the road?

The series wasn't as great as I expected, to be honest. I know a lot of people love it, but I guess it's just not for me. I was hoping that the last book would give a great ending, but I was underwhelmed. I was not really moved by the characters. The plot was weird. I usually love children's/middle grade books, but this would be easily forgotten. I liked some parts, but it wasn't enough. Good thing the audiobook was well done. I was able to read the series pretty quickly. Now I'm ready to pass the books along to someone who might like them.

Ahhhh
I cannot believe the series is over *cries*

I started this as a young 7th grader and now it's all finished and gone. Not everything about this series is perfect but it's funny, full of mystery and narrated by fantastical narrator who really loves his chocolate.

though admittedly the ending wasn't completely satisfying to the whole series, leaving more questions than it answered, it was still a thrilling and well written addition to the story. I'm a sucker for the series though, so it didn't take away how much I enjoyed it :)

The Secret was a joke, which sort of annoyed me. I felt such a dramatic book filled with so many adventures would have been leading up to a grander ending, but besides that I enjoyed it.

Cass, Max-Ernest, and Yo-Yoji get caught up in a mummy heist at the local museum, which turns out to be linked to their quest for The Secret.
A clever finish to a clever and fun series. The plot is fun and inventive, but the best thing about the series is the narrator, who inserts himself into the story frequently and adds a goofy meta-ness to the whole affair. I highly recommend the series for those who like MG-level mysteries with a touch of the supernatural.

This was an incredible ending! I loved this series and look forward to rereading! I really came to love all the characters and PB's great writing style.

I was wondering how the series would end. I mean, what secret could be good enough to end a series like this without being a disappointment? But the secret was perfect, as was the entire ending.

I will definately be reading the Bad Magic series about Max-Ernest's little bro.

Bravo, Pseudonymous Bosch. You truly are a magician with words.

When I read "When he came back to the mirror, he stopped cold. There was a man in the mirror. An old or not-so-old man (it was hard to tell). He had messy hair that stuck out in all directions and a scruffy beard the mixed black-and-white color people describe as salt-and-pepper. He looked slightly insane." or "... and wondering if this was what it was like to be crazy." in the last book, I thought maybe we are going somewhere. but the author failed me at least.

All in all this is a lovely series, I just wish the end would have been a bit more ... concrete? I feel like there were some ties that weren't quite tied up and (even though this is middle grade) I would have wished for a tad more seriousness in some scenes considering the overall high stakes. It was great reading this again nonetheless!

Empezó con tres personajes completamente distintos y acaba con una amistad irrompible. He oido chistes malisimos de Max-Enrest, he descubierto miles de desastres posibles gracias a Cas y he aprendido frases modernas de Yo-Yoji. Han sido 5 libros con los que he soñado con descubrir el secreto y con comer tanto chocolate como el autor, por eso sí quieres pasar un buen rato con un poco de misterio y emoción, ayúdanos a derrotar al sol de medianoche.
