Hermione overhears something she shouldn't concerning Professor Snape and decides that maybe the House-elves aren't the only ones in need of protection.
Where Harry Potter is concerned, I'm a slash shipper. Generally. But I'm also a huge Snape fan. So when I saw how clearly in character he was in this story, I put aside all my preconceived preferences and decided to give Pet Project a chance. And I am ever so glad I did. This was a deliciously slow burn (oh so very, very slow) and I loved it all the more for it. The amount of angst was tolerable, thank Merlin. Heaven knows I've read enough angst ridden Snarry to last a lifetime. I enjoyed a more cynical Hermione and how she went about reaching her goals in logical, methodical ways. Snape was suitably ill-treated, but I was glad the author didn't give in the urge to completely villainize Dumbledore, Harry, or any of his other detractors. Speaking of Harry, though he was an utter moron through most of the book, he was still central to the story and not completely cut out or pushed aside to focus on the romance. Same with Ron, though he was less of a moron. The ending. I'm a stickler for endings. One hint of deus ex machina or any other such shifty plot devices and my entire view on a book takes a nosedive. With such buildup to the defeat of Voldemort, this ending had to be clever. JK Rowling managed to do it in the original series. I've read a few other intrepid fan fiction authors who've done it as well. Caeria has now joined their ranks in my minds. I applaud her cleverness.
Is it possible that what I consider one of my favorite books, is not in fact, an actual book. I love this story. So Much, and I find myself coming back to it again and again. often times, neglecting all of my published to-be conquests aside. I've thought about why I love this story so much, and I think it is because Caeria shows the characters in complex lights, and nobody is ever shown as pure good or as pure bad. She does an amazing job with themes of old/mothers magic, and dark magic. She does an amazing job taking us through the motivations of all the characters. Never are you confused. Also, the amount of thought and detail that must of gone into this story. everything is so wonderfully woven together, that a single moment brings with it so many others. Also also, I never thought that I would ship this, but now I do, and the thing that I adore about this fic is that the dynamic between Hermione and Severus is constantly changing and that it didn't go from student/teacher to lovers. Alsox3 Vector. absolutely loved her and all of her chalk and equations.
ps. I can't get over the fact that this was only supposed to be 6 chapters, and instead spanned eight years xD
Wszystkim. A potem autorka nagle postanawia wszystko przyspieszyć. Mocne 4,5.
Top tier Sevmione. Believable how they fell in love, especially Hermione. One of the few or perhaps only books, where an action by the FMC made me swoon.
This story has set the bar for me incredibly high. Even though it's incredibly long I find myself rereading it again and again. I simply fell in love with how well the characters are written. The plot and all the subplots are very interesting. But the thing that made me fall in love with it was all the interactions between the main characters. While in some stories the love feels rushed or happens instantaneously which makes you think of a mere crush, here we get to see how slowly their relationship grows and develops and changes in it's nature. It is not rushed, they spend time together, get to know each other, test their limits and learn from each other I have read may other stories with this pair and even though I have found many incredible ones no other feels as complete in the middle as this one does. The story is very well constructed and thought over but I do believe the ending was a bit more rushed than the end, although it might be just me All in all, this has been my favorite fic for many years now
I am not a Snape/Hermione fan, but this story is my exception.
Brilliantly and slowly paced, this story lets all our characters remain in character and develop to the point that a romantic relationship between Snape and Hermione actually becomes believable (and enjoyable!) to read. The story is hilarious, clever, heartbreaking, and a truly engaging read. The first few chapters are a bit slow, but once you get past them, it gets really, really good.
Overall, it’s one of my favorite fan fictions, and one I’ve come back to reread many times.
The slowest slow burn ever! The writing style is incredible, characters were true to canon, but had some amazing development throughout the book. I only wish he fell a bit harder for her...
Probably the most well thoughtout fanfic I've ever read with a plot that always leaves you wanting more. The characters were themselves; they didn't lose their essence. I can only imagine how hard it must be to make someone like Snape appear likable and how hard it must be to make him have a friendship with any of the other characters in the books, especially the students, without making it feel unnatural and yet the author did it perfectly. Snape is the same old "anti-hero" he was in the source material but we are shown a new side to him. This obviously doesn't redeem him from his wrongdoings and he himself knows it, but still allows the reader to feel something other than utter disgust for him without breaking character. The relationship between him and Hermione takes a long time to develop, as it should. It is surprisingly not inappropriate altough it could've easily transformed into a toxic and manipulative relationship had the author not thought the plot through. Their relationship turns out to be refreshing and deep, and one that surpasses the reader's expectations.
Uhmmm... This was delightful and intriguing! No HBP and DH? A new ending (I mean I do love me some horcruxes, but didn't mind a different conclusion)? MORE HOUSE ELF MAGIC (and marvelous new characters)???? Really enjoyed the different aspects the author brought to the story with digging into old magic/mother magic, arithmancy, Harry going off the deep end, and some Mr. and Mrs. Granger.
I’ve read this story too many times. Probably around 5-7 times. Every time I read it something jumps out at me that I never noticed before. Intricate characters with much more brevity and depth than the original series. I especially think this characterization of Snape is much more true to his persona than the one in the HP universe. I love the development of this story and the slow burn of Hermione and Snape, which on its surface sounds impossible. However, in this story it makes perfect sense. One of my favorite pieces of literature!
