Blaze Sinclair is the oldest son in the Sinclair household. He’s strong and sexy as hell and craves the plump receptionist working in his office building. On the night of the Christmas party his life is turned upside down, but he’s determined to have the woman he wants.
Cassie Walker has fallen in love with her boss. She spends every day at work craving his attention. One night her life is changed forever. Broken and used, Cassie must learn to move on and forget about the man who owns her heart.
Five years pass. With a divorce and a son under his belt, Blaze comes face to face with the only woman he’s ever wanted.
Can she forgive Blaze and give him a second chance, or will it be too late for her to realize the best things in life are worth fighting for.
Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound. She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.
Here is another fine example of this complete f*ckery of this plot in this book by this author. Guy who is supposed to be in love with heroine, sleep with her but has a baby and marries another. Oh yeah all because Daddy said so!!! I guess no condoms are available to the rich!!! My ass!!! Omg if I have to hear about one more time this chick reasons for her not having self confidence, ...I will SCREAM! I think I have reach critical saturation levels for this bull! NO MORE PLEASE I GIVE UP!
I can summarize this book in one single SOUND. It does not even merit a word. (If you were wondering, that sound is – UGH!) . . . . . . . . Putting aside the appalling sentence constructions, I found myself baffled by the utter lack of motivation or answers to the question “Why?”. Why was the hero having sex with the skinny other woman while being in love/lust with the heroine?
How ever did the hero impregnate the ow? Was he completely lacking in means of protection? What was up with that?
Why did the hero marry somebody BECAUSE HIS DADDY TOLD HIM TO? Is he 15? No? He’s 40? Oh. Well, gosh.
Why was the hero 100% indifferent and almost negative toward his stepmother? He was 12-13 when his father married her, which is not all that old. He still had a lot of years in which she took care of him and loved him with all her might. Why was he perfectly ok with his father blabbering about loving his first wife…..for 25 years of his next marriage? Why was he ok, and even supportive of this kind of emotional abuse toward a woman that was fabulous with him, and even with his son?
What is up with the idiotic premises that Sinclair man can love once and only once? Who said that? Why did they believe that?
And ultimately --> WHY IS THE HERO AN UTTER ASSHAT?
As we all know, sometimes, the plot can be up aside when caracters are brilliant on their own. Sadly, this read not only has a distinctive lack of plot flow, it has BORING characters.
The heroine was not bad per se (unlike the hero!) …she was more of a non-entity. And being a non-entity in Romancilada makes me yawn. Hard. I felt no connection to her, and I had no real understanding over what she is like, except that she is a bit overweight. While on the subject, let me just give an… ….IMPORTANT NOTE FOR AUTHORS:
Being overweight is not a real character distinction. Having a few extra pounds and a flabby stomach does not tell me if you are nice or if you like bon-bons, you emotionally empty dishrag, you! At times when she was owie-owie-huwwwwt, or saaaaad, or being an utter drama-lama, I got an uneasy feeling that she was plainly epileptic. Who else goes from being catatonically boring to exploding all over the place?
All in all --> don’t waist your time on this. It’s not even interesting enough to rant about.
DNF @ 35% I’ve had this book FOREVER, and decided to finally take a crack at it… 😑 from a safety standpoint, I don’t know if I’d call this cheating, but the H, Blaze, does something TOTALLY douchey… and marries someone else… which shouldn’t be a total surprise from the blurb.
In a nutshell, Cassie works as Blaze’s secretary (I forget how long) but is TOTALLY crushing on him, and wants in his pants bigtime. Unfortunately, Blaze doesn’t see her, (so she thinks) and he has a GF, Francesca Lawe. BUT, during the Christmas party she stumbles upon a VERY upset Blaze. His life is over, and while consoling him one thing leads to another, and they have life changing sex. What she doesn’t know, (but finds out Monday at work) is that Francesca is preggers, and Blaze is engaged which is TOTALLY awkward, so she resigns and his brother sets her up with a new job. FFW 3 years (although blurb says 5) and Blaze is getting divorced, and headed to his parent’s beach home for a vacay with Blaze Jr in tow when SURPRISE his bro invited Cassie also.
I may re-visit, but right now I just can’t. My main issue was the lack of understanding the situation…Like…
Why did he keep a GF if he secretly loved Cassie?
Why was he having unprotected sex with someone he didn’t trust, and was pushing for marriage?
There’s this whole side plot about his stepmom Molly wanting to divorce the dad because she’s tired of being second best… cuz Sinclair men can only love once… I hate this plot device. Not to mention, all the insight we get on the h is that she’s overweight (size 16). I HATE when authors write like being chubby is a personality trait. Having a round tummy tells me nothing about her. It makes as much sense of the ex-wife being a bitch because she’s skinny….
Novella thank god because I wouldn’t have been able to read it if it were longer. The heroine is the hero’s secretary and has a crush on him. He’s handsome and sexy and dates beautiful women. He has a gf at the moment. The night of the Christmas office party he has sex with the heroine. Of course she is a virgin. Some days after she realizes he’s engaged to his gf. She leaves. He marries ow, because she is pregnant. Three years later he’s divorced with a child. He’s always been unhappy and never loved his wife but hey, he had sex with her but he thought of the heroine! So it’s good yeah. The heroine of course was as celibate as a nun and this is why I rated it one star, because if I could rate minus I would. The hero’s brother acts like cupido and makes them meet again. Booom. Two pages later they are together again. Little drama when ow comes back but hero only wants the heroine because, even if he dated beautiful women and screwed them like there’s no tomorrow it has always been her! Lol! Are you fuggin kidding me? Soooo. Beside the fact that the hero for one years dated and did a lot of beautiful women except the heroine and he got ow pregnant even if he was sooooo madly in love with the heroine, and he had sex with her because he was going, after one year of screwing around, to finally make a step towards her but ow told him she was pregnant and had to ruin it all.. and beside the fact that if his brother didn’t act matchmaker he wouldn’t have looked for her, there is a bigger issue here. The heroine is overweight. She’s curvy. Maybe obese? Who knows. And who cares. Because let’s be honest, had she been ok with her weight and looks, I wouldn’t have cared if she was curvy. But her weight is an issue to her too. She is the one who body shakes herself. She compares herself to the hero’s dates and finds herself lacking. She compares herself to the other girls in the office and finds herself less attractive. She compares herself to the hero and finds herself out of his league. So of course when he has sex with her she thinks she’s his pity fugg. So of course her attitude when he actually was attracted to her is that, well, since I’m not beautiful as him and his date I have to settle for what he gives me. This is wrong and discriminatory. She’s not ok with her weight even if she says she is because for all the book she thinks well, of course he doesn’t like me, I’m fat. And since I’m not fond of people self pitying themselves I think she should have gone to a nutritionist and a pt and have a program to lose some weight since she thinks she’s not worthy enough of him because she’s fat. Even when ow comes back she runs because she can’t compare herself to her! This is not a book for curvy women acceptance, this is a book where curvy women are seen as less deserving of love because they are not slim. And the fact that the hero dated skinny beautiful women before her shows that he actually liked them and had a type but eventually chose the heroine. Not because he liked women with every kind of body. Because she was kind and cute. But she was the opposite of his ow. And she is also celibate because he has the right to have sex with ow but she, who is not attractive enough, has to be at least celibate for him. What a lot of bs. So no, this book is wrong on every level.
It was ok. There was barely any sex. Boooo. I'm giving you the full lowdown on this, with spoilers because it involves an OW and I wasn't sure I'd like it. I know that's something that bothers a lot of people, including me.
Cassie (not a virgin) works for Blaze Sinclair (just a guy) as the company receptionist. He's wanted her for a long time and when his matchmaker brother, Chris, encourages him to finally act on those feelings, he decides to go for it. Before he can do that, he gets a call from his pseudo-girlfriend saying she's pregnant. Cassie finds Blaze in his office and he decides to take her anyway, knowing they can't be together. The next day he breaks her heart and she quits the company. Blaze marries the woman and they have a kid. 3 years later he divorces her, never having forgotten about Cassie, the woman he loved. Blaze's brother, Chris, stayed friends with Cassie and helped her start her own company. Anyway, the large Sinclair family has a vacation home and Chris tricks Cassie into going there for a summer vaca. Of course Blaze and his son are there. You can guess what happens next.
The thing is it's not just about Blaze and Cassie. You learn that Chris is in love with someone that he cheated on and you get to hear all about that when she shows up. Plus, their parents, David & Molly, are fighting. Molly wants to divorce him because of reasons you can read in the book. There's a lot of fighting and stuff between them. So it makes you really want to find out what happens with the other couples.
It's not the smut I usually enjoy from SC, but I still liked the story.
Despite the mixed ratings, I sort of expected a light and funny read with a good story plot. I mean, the idea is good : Blaze and Cassie secretely have had the hots for each other for a year but have not acted on it yet, given that Blaze is Cassie's boss. At a Christmas reception, they finally have sex, but it turns out to be quite a disappointment for Cassie for, a few days later, she learns that Blaze is not only engaged but a soon-to-be father. Three years later, they meet again.
I thought, OK, potential for some good stuff here and I went for it. The fact that the heroine is a plus-sized woman didn't hurt either.
In the end, I was sorely disappointed. The plot was clearly underexploited, things going far too fast for me to buy it! That is to be excpected of course with novelas _ which I don't read very often, because I like my romances to evolve at a reasonable pace and my characters to benefit some development throughout the book _ but here I was really diconcerted to see that quite a room was made for secondary stories : Chris and Erica, David and Molly, and of course the other brothers. Oh, I can only assume that those secondary plots are meant to set the background for the on-coming books of the Sinclair series, but still, they clearly ate at the space that should have been saved for Blaze and Cassie's story. As a result, I thought that the romance progressed far too quickly, at the cost of realism. And I couldn't bring myself to care much for any of the characters.
Moreover, as if that was not enough, I was quite frankly turned off by some expressions or elements throughout the book. For instance, I couldn't believe my eyes when I read, during a sex scene, that "Blaze wanted her swimming in his spunk". Okaaayyyy, thank you very much for that charming image, I shall go and put my own eyes out now. Speak of a mood killer... Also, what kind of parents would call their children Blaze Junior (isn't Blaze a romance publishing firm or something?) and Yvonne? Sick b*stards.
I can see why there are people who didn't care for this book. The relationships weren't well rounded and the characters weren't entirely likeable.
We have the 3 Sinclair men who are obviously emotionally immature. I can't think of any other way to take these guys. Whether its finding out your girlfriend is pregnant and marrying her, hurting the girl who's virginity you took or the worst scenario making your wife of 25 years feel like 2nd best and being shocked when she's had enough....well you aren't looking to win any congeniality awards.
While I can't say I was particularly fond of these Sinclair men I will say that the tension and emotions felt real to me. Regrets are real and if you won't take the time to get your head out of your ass and realise you're an idiot....then you aren't likely to keep the love of your life.
In all three situations, the betrayals would cause any woman to second guess their worth so it was nice for the guys to get their comeuppance and realise that they would have to work hard to right their wrongs. Hope Erica and Molly don't give in too easily. Even though timeframe wise, Cassie seemed to forgive quickly I felt she'd grown over 3 years, and in all that time she truly loved Blaze. I don't for one second believe that she would have put her life on hold indefinitely for him though but Blaze was who she wanted.
I read this book years ago. But I decided to reread it when I saw the notification popped up, and DA4Pups liked Learning to Forgive. I had forgotten about that trilogy and decided to reread them hence my review.
Blaze's Second Chance was full of hot, steamy and passionate sex, plenty of drama, heartache and romance. And even though it was just a short novella, I totally enjoyed it. I am nuts for a second chance, romances. But what made it different from other stories about second chances? This book doesn't have tons of angst. Both Blaze and Cassie knew what they wanted from the start. It was well written and very engaging. Plus, all the characters are fascinating. Especially Molly and David.
I admired Blaze for what he did. Don't get me wrong, what he did to Cassie was terrible, but he was doing what was right even though it wasn't what he wanted. He's a great father. He considered his son first before himself. As for Cassie, I loved her character. She's a strong woman. She knows what she wants, and even though Blaze badly hurt her, it still didn't stop her from becoming a very successful woman.
And that little epilogue had me sighing. Both Blaze and Cassie definitely deserved a happy ending.
I read this years ago but wanted to reread because i couldn't quite remember the whole story and 5 pages in I remembered why the whole series was a struggle....i think what bugged me the most from this book was (lack of epic groveling aside) Cassie's whole attitude of easily forgotten and forgiven. Her whole speech regarding 'we made no promises to each other' stuck me as weird. I mean I would like to think that any decent man, regardless of it being a one time thing or not, would not have a ready made family waiting in the wings while he bangs the chick he always wanted
I definitely would have respected him more if he had the decency to tell her that it was a mistake or it couldn't happen again or something along those lines.
I gave three stars, because even though the leading characters were Blaze and Cassie, this book should have been Book 2, because Chris story should have been Book 1, however I have not read Book 2. But from the get go when Chris spoke to his brother and informed Blaze that he really mess things with Cassie and that he did the same this Jennifer, it should be story Number 1. Then the drama fore told in the Sinclair summer house OMG, what the hell! I felt there was no happy ending, because the only couple that was happy was Blaze and Cassie. There was so much arguing, and fighting between the parents, that I was losing tough with the dayum story. Sorry Ms. Crescent but I was not feeling this story. But you are a good author. Thank you.
The shtick with the Sinclair men is that they will fall in love and then be a completely inexcusable asshat to the woman they fall for. Then years later they will try to redeem themselves to said lady. So the premise of the story is only successful if the author can convince you that they are redeemed. I love a book with some good grovelling by the hero. This one totally fit the bill. It wasn't a great read, but it was entertaining and I did like the Sinclair in question by the end of the book. His name being Blaze and his kid being Blaze junior was distracting and hard to take seriously. Not sure what was up with that?
Not bad. I just wished that Blaze had initially manned up and had some courage to stand by what he felt for Cassie. That would've saved them a lot of heart ache, but then where would the story be without some unwanted and predictable drama? lol, an okay read though, just to pass the time..
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hot: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Lovely: 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Blaze Sinclair and Cassie Walker !?!? Really Good!!! This is a very good book!!! 🥰🥰 Is charming and lovely, a wonderful reading to weekend... Good Reading!! 🎀
Simply awesome! I just can't describe how good this book was. I fell in love with the whole Sinclair family. The love Blaze has for Cassie is beautiful. I loved the day Cassie found out about Blaze' future plans and how she 'went out to lunch' and never met with Blaze in his office. I was so proud of her! One of my top books so far! Sam is an extraordinary writer!
Question: who is this chick on the cover? Cause it ain’t the heroine. Uh short, needed to be fleshed out cause the sex scenes were jarring when they came up. But does make you curious about the other two couples in the story.
This book was so good!! Blaze has a weird notion and has to learn to get over it to move on with his life. Cassie was great! I am a big fan of Sam Crescent's work and she didn't disappoint!
I really enjoyed this story, I did read some reviews and did jot agree with some of them. Blaze was lusting after Cassie and slowly falling in love with the vibrant, kind receptionist. After the Christmas party Blaze going to call that would change his future. Cassie wanted to be with Blaze, she just didn't imagine the consequences afterwards. Now with a successful career Chris, Blazes brothers help and in desperate need of a vacation she heads to the beach house. Then the real family drama unfolds!! Whoa there was so much going on and getting to hear the background on tbe family was fascinating. I want to read the other two books just to find out what's going to happen. Life doesn't always happen the way we want but it does get better. We do get to see it unfold.
I didn't feel the romance between the MCs. Doormat h was celibate while H was playing house with his wife & mother of his son 😒. Usually I am all about the sexy guy in the story. This time I am impressed with the heroine. Cassie is a really nice woman who had her heart broken by Blaze. When Cassie came and literally fought for her man, I was like, YES !!! Take that evil ex !! A great second chance romance from the remarkable Sam Crescent . Ready for book 2.
I read a review on the third book in this series and was very interested so I figured I would start with the first book and work my way up. I read all of the reviews on Amazon and was very leery of purchasing it, but went ahead and grabbed it since I love this author. I do agree somewhat with the reviews. I think the story does do a dramatic time jump. One chapter ends and the next begins 3 years later with no warning. I think the story would’ve flowed better if we had a brief view into what married life was like for Blaze and also a brief look into Chris and Cassie’s friendship and how she started her own business. To read the rest of my review, read here: http://wp.me/p3a6Qw-1U
Although I love this author this book was a huge let down. Why is Blaze sleeping with Cassie when he has a girlfriend who conveniently is pregnant and he has to marry her. Seriously? Why does he have to marry her? Why can't he support the child since he is fed up with the girlfriend and supposedly loves Cassie? Forward a few years later he is getting divorced and runs into Cassie again. Cassie is such a weak female character and just takes him back like nothing ever happened. So disappointed in the author. And all these 5 star reviews are confusing.
