World-famous media archaeologist Dr. Kathlyn Trent and her husband, Dr. Marcus Burton, are off on another enigmatic quest.
Reports of the discovery of angel bones have come from the ancient land of Iraq and Kathlyn and Marcus take their archaeological teams into this mysterious realm to investigate. Hindering their progress is a former colleague of Kathlyn's - also hearing of the discovery, Dr. Fayd Fahdlan will stop at nothing to usurp Kathlyn's claim. As Kathlyn and Marcus fall under the spell of the strange bones, Fayd and his superiors see spectacular and bizarre scientific opportunities for Dr. Trent's find. When Kathlyn is kidnapped in an attempt to force her to participate in their macabre scheme, the ancient bones suddenly take a back seat to a related discovery of even greater magnitude.
Biblical theories that were once thought only myth have suddenly become reality. The Vatican and the United States military soon become involved and the stakes grow even higher. Kathlyn, Marcus and the rest of the archaeologists find themselves caught up in something so fantastic that it is difficult to know just where the legends end and realities begin.
Don't believe in demons? Kathlyn Trent can convince you otherwise in this amazing tale.
Juggernaut Indie author Kathryn Le Veque is a 'tour de force' in publishing.
Kathryn is a critically acclaimed 21-time USA TODAY Bestselling author, a charter Amazon All-Star author, an Indie Reader top seller, and a #1 bestselling, award-winning, multi-published author in Medieval Historical Romance with over 100 published novels.
Among her many accomplishments, she is the CEO of Dragonblade Publishing, the #1 Historical Romance e-book publisher on Amazon. In 2020, Kathryn collaborated with Sourcebooks publishing for a Medieval Fight Club series set in Scotland.
The writing was very good, and I love Kathryn Le Veque's stories. However, I'm having a quandary with this one.
The Eden Factor is the second story in the Kathlyn Trent-Marcus Burton trilogy. The first book introduced the characters and took me on a great adventure in Egypt. There was a little of a supernatural twist in Kathlyn's Flow but the story stayed on the dig, the bad guys, and a touch of history.
The Eden Factor takes the characters into the hostilities of Iraq, with a shadowed glare at the Vatican, and into the realm of demons from Biblical Mythology.
Although the demons were somewhat interesting the story tread into territory I didn't want to see the characters go. Not because of my beliefs since I do enjoy historical vampires and werewolves, and Harry Potter's world. I wanted more of a reality-based adventure, a little more about Kathlyn's Flow. This dove into a mythological-based adventure.
So, four stars for the writing, the characters beyond that of Kathlyn and Marcus, and a decent story despite it going into depths I wish it hadn't.

How far in the name of science will a man go to pursue and further prove his hypotheses? And how much truth lies in the myths passed down through the ages? Will we find the truth through archaeological digs? Not only will this story grip your mind, it will have you pondering these very questions.
Kathlyn Trent is a wonderful role model. A strong woman in the face of with adversity. When she loves, she loves with all her heart. She also has a very powerful belief in God, a bit of a seer to the past, intelligent, and driven to discover the unusual and unknown. Her studies are Biblical Mythology. When science, her logical reasoning, her curiosity to discover the unknown and her knowledge of what the Bible relates in Genesis and Revelations, converge, she must make decisions which could change her life forever. Her strengths are what also makes her most vulnerable.
Marcus Burton, his studies in Egyptology and Kathlyn’s husband, sees his archeology in strictly a methodical, scientific way. So he often balances the scales where Kathyln is concerned. She is rather impulsive and will endanger herself for a scientific find. Since meeting Kathlyn his ideas have changed, somewhat, since his studies are grounded on what is seen and scientifically proved. Kathlyn’s studies deal with interpretation of myths, past from generation to generation dating as far as back as before the flood and Noah’s ark. Marcus believes in his wife, would like to give her the independence she craves to pursue her research. He can’t quite let go. This stubborn trait of his, will either kill or save them all.
These two make a powerful story, full of adventure, danger, suspense and excitement. The author takes her readers into the contemporary world where the past literally touches the present. The research teams deal with local villagers in Iraq who are scared to death and decide they need outside help. Word of the villagers’s findings leaks to other Biblical Mythology experts who don’t have as many scruples as Kathlyn’s team. The Vatican also becomes involved.
I hadn’t heard narrator Leslie Wadsworth’s work before, and I was pleasantly surprised by the way she carried the story, the range of emotion she expressed (extremely believable), particularly the quick-temper and explosive arguments between Marcus and Kathlyn. I enjoyed the special effects used through the story, only adding more realism to the uncanniness the author spooks us with.
The support cast adds a lot to the story. I, particularly like Dennis, a brash, in-your-face kind of man, who isn’t afraid to say exactly what he’s thinking. I like the friendship Julianna has with Kathryn. They share a secret which comes to light. Will it hurt her chances with Lynn?
The author keeps the reader hanging, questions left unanswered until the end of the story. I always expected the worse. Much like the story itself, even though the world ‘rights’ itself, a lingering question mark still remains. Again, Kathryn Le Veque entertains with a unique situation, and a thought-provoking powerful message.
I could not give this 5 stars like book 1 however it was still an excellent read. I was more fascinated with book 1 and the Egyptian themes because I was very familiar with the Ancient Egyptian culture and where book 2 takes us is still very adventurous but lacking the magic that is Egypt. I also felt the relationship between Marcus and Kathlyn stagnated in book 2. It lacked the will they won't they tension and i just felt it was a struggle to write them in this season of their marriage.
Now that we have that out of the way. It was again a very enjoyable read - if at times mirroring some of the unrealistic qualities of book 1, I mean there is no way a bunch of Seals and Marines are going to stand back and let a civilian woman go into a hostile situation on her own when they just barely made it out alive the first time.
I enjoyed the clash of scientific and faith minds.
I also enjoyed the ethical situations Kathlyn was put in. Science at any cost or sacrifice for the greater good is an interesting theme.
I enjoyed book one and through a mistake also enjoyed book three. This book, not so much. Originally I really liked Kathlyn but she took unnecessary risks just to prove something to Marcus and each and every time something happened. I think her character was very selfish and just plain stupid. I don’t like that she never considered Marcus in her decisions and whenever he disagreed she just went ahead and did whatever she wanted. She was thoughtless and just a bit cruel. I didn’t enjoy her character at all in this book.
Marcus, I’ve always liked him, but his character left a lot to be desired in this book. Never a more pussy whipped man have I read about like this dude. He goes around throwing his weight and just plain being rude and mean to people but let’s his wife walk all over him. I don’t like that their marriage is completely one sided, they are partners so should support and discuss everything, but Kathlyn runs roughshod over Marcus and he always lets her. That’s not a compromising partnership at all. Both of them, quite frankly sucked in this book, therefore taking away whatever enjoyment I could have garnered from it.
The story itself was outlandish, very unbelievable though at the same time very interesting. I didn’t like it because after everything was said and done, I still have no clue what those winged creatures were or what the point of their existence was. Kathlyn explains very little of her vision and the book ends very abruptly.
I’m glad I mistakenly read book three before reading this one because had I picked this one up before book three, I would have given up on this series. That’s how bad it was..
What is the truth of the skeleton she has been called to Iraq to study? Does the bible tell of these ancient creatures and is it part of mankind's history? Kathryn is abducted and carried off to Amman as part of a vicious plot by an unscrupulous associate. What does he really hope to gain by putting her in harm's way?
A fascinating approach to the search for biblical antiquities. This is a unique approach to very popular books in the last several years. As always Kathryn LeVeque writes an interesting and in depth thought provoking plot to a unique approach to what has often been considered myth.
What a thrilling ride! Couldn't put it down! I love these books and that's not usual for mr, to get excited over a contemporary romance story, but these are fantastic! Hope the author continues at some place! Wonderful read!
Same review for all three books, as I read them in a bundle with no ISBN for the bundle.
Reasons for the 1 star: 1. Author is Kathryn, Heroine is Kathlyn. Putting yourself into the book, much? 2. Kathlyn is supposed to be a very talented, intelligent, media-savvy archeologist with a knack for finding artifacts. My overall impression of her is: an impetuous, selfish, "my way or the highway" woman who is constantly bursting into tears. And who gets pregnant if her husband breathes on her. I didn't find her sympathetic or relatable. 3. The author includes in her bio that she writes for men AND women, and boy is that evident in this series. Marcus "takes" Kathlyn frequently. 4. Speaking of Marcus, I cannot believe that even in the 3rd book, he is still so jealous and possessive that he loses his shit enough to beat up someone whom he sees embrace Kathlyn, without any knowledge of context or circumstances - other than "I've seen the way he looks at you, he's in love with you." So, hugging her means that you're going to beat the shit out of him, even though your jealousy and hair-trigger temper has been wrong previously and gotten you into shit. Asshole.
I have no idea why I read all three books. I guess I hoped it would get better. And they kindof reminded me of my parents' Clive Cussler books, with less Al Giardano and more Bible. (side note: I like to think of the Dirk Pitt series as "Dirk and Al fuck their way around the world." I may need to re-read and see if they hold up)
This is the second story in a action packed series. This story starts out with husband Marcus and wife Kathlyn in a very hostile environment in Iraq. From there they discover something amazing and terrifying depending on how you look at it...I won't say because I don't want to give 'it' away. But lets put it this way...things go from beautiful and exciting to unbelievable and terrifying in a snap. Kathlyn and Marcus go through some up and downs in their relationship as well. They are still trying to find balance between both of their jobs and raising a family. I
I also want to point out how much I enjoy Kathlyn' s faith. Faith in the unexplainable and the just plain strange. Her faith and belief in religion and the bible is beautiful and intriguing.
There were a few things that bothered me...Kathlyn struck me as kind of selfish in some ways. Don't get me wrong I still love her but she ALWYAS wants to put her career first. Even above her kids and Marcus. She sometimes runs into things with no regard whatsoever to how it could affect her or her family. When Marcus points this out, she throws a fit. They don't have this fight once but multiple times. She's a mother and wife but yet it doesn't stop her from taking extreme risks. I feel in these instances she's only thinking about herself...Marcus seems to be her voice of reason. The other problem is there are quite a few editing/grammar mistakes. This doesn't bother me, because they story is so engrossing. But I know this does bother some people so I wanted to point it out.
I HIGHLY recommend this GREAT series! If you like adventure AND romance this is the story for you.
Archeological mystery and adventure mixed with a healthy dose of romance and a touch of the paranormal.
The Eden Factor is my favorite of this series. Maybe it is because of the slightly disturbing biblical creature factor. I like a little creepiness from time to time.
All of the three Kathlyn Trent/Marcus Burton Romance Adventures from Kathryn Le Veque are all great fun to read, or in my case, listen to. The audiobook versions are read by the very talented Leslie Wadsworth. She doesn't just read. Ms. Wadsworth often uses vocal sound effects to help the listener appreciate concepts like distance, sound in caves, or bad cell phone connections. Could it be that she had fun while narrating these books? Well, I think you will have fun listening to them!
The three books are: Valley of the Shadow, The Eden Factor and Canyon of the Sphinx. If you are going to read all three, read them in the order I listed. As a series, each successive book, moved the Kathlyn Trent/Marcus Burton relationship along and does reference events in previous books. But any one of them can be read as standalone also. Great adventure, mystery and intrigue are out there for you to grab in the Kathlyn Trent/Marcus Burton Romance Adventures.
No surprise that someone like Kathryn Le Veque could put together something like this, and do it successfully. I have seen people try it before, and not quite pull it off. This one - I ended up reading late into the night in order to find out what happened. And I loved what happened. The characters continued to be strong, and difficult to predict, just like real people. Even in the end, who got to be minor heroes stayed tough to decide. But the main players? They were delightful! I am in love with Marcus, even if he is married...because I am pretending to be Kathlyn. And the plot was all over the place, as the action did likewise! Yes indeed, another beautiful book baby.
number 2 in this author's series featuring 2 combustible archaeologists! this time they discover something that the vatican wants to hide. i really enjoyed this book, though there were a few editing problems, plus the author said that one character's great grandfather fought the nazis in WWI. other than that, a pretty good book that kept me riveted to my kindle!
Romance and adventure were definitely a given, and wonderfully written bybthe author. However, the plot and storyline definitely gives the reader a sense to winder about the evolution of science, religion and the possibility of other life forms and their existence. Definitely worth reading again!
Kathlyn is called to the archeological discovery of a lifetime, something that will validate the Bible itself. Only, a crazy colleague and strange creatures lurking around the dig site complicate things. I loved the suspense and action.
I read everything That kathryn le veque writes, but this is not her normal genre and frankly i'm not sure How I feel about it. I will admit that it kind of freaked me out and kinda kept me reading, But i'm still not sure how I feel about it
