Sweet Sixteen is supposed to be a turning point in your life. The world is before you in all its glory, just waiting for you to reach out and grab it. Right? For Abigail Staton no, not so much. Not only does she suddenly lose her best friend due to a fight, but suddenly her mother expects her to believe that the father, she has never met, is actually a werewolf. With that revelation, Abby is thrust into the world of two wolf clans who are not only fighting each other, but also fighting for Abby, one of the few females born to the shape-shifters. Her father is determined to pair Abby up with Derek, a very dominant and overwhelming shifter. Abby vehemently balks at this union to disastrous results. When war is declared between the two clans, Abby has to decide what side she is actually on.

A Howl in the Night is a story of a girl who finds herself alone when her father sudden reenters her life on her sixteenth birthday and corrupts her relationship with her mother. What's worse is that her mother turns against her and does what her father wants - they try to imprison her in an abusive relationship even though she's considered imperfect and can't shape shift like her father.

She is truly alone because her best friend just told her that he loves her, and since she doesn't return his feelings, he can't be around her. There is nowhere for her to turn for help.

The only creature she finds solace with is a wolf she met in the woods. He's a loyal friend, who doesn't demand anything of her - he's the only comfort she has as her world is shredded with confusion, emotions, and control.

The wolf is more than she expects, and becomes her source of sanctuary. She's accepted, but she still doesn't know who she is, which side she's on, or what she wants.

She's at war with herself. She's at war with her family. She's the source of the war between two clans of shifters.

To bring peace to them all, she must find something within herself...

I really enjoyed this book; it was easy to read and moved fast with realistic and fascinating characters. You find yourself cheering for those you like and scowling at the ones you don't. The emotions feel real, as you're in the girl's head - Abigail - since the story is in first person. It's a perfect read for a teen girl, but I feel that even boys would enjoy it.

Courtney Rene’s newest novel, A Howl In The Night definitely hooked me early on. It was after I read the following line where her mother is explaining to Abby about her father, that I knew I wasn’t putting this book down anytime soon!

SHE PAUSED HERE AND LOOKED AT ME CAREFULLY. “ABBY, I KNOW YOU WON’T BELIEVE ME BUT I SWEAR AS I SAT ON THE FLOOR TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO, HE TORE HIS CLOTHES OFF AND WELL, HE TURNED INTO A WOLF.”

I found this book fascinating, educational, and witty, in parts, all at the same time. The author has such a clear voice in her writing and doesn’t disappoint.

At the end of this book, I found myself wanting more and couldn’t believe it was ending. I also found myself wondering if there really are people in this world that can turn into wolves? And if so, how can I become one!

I highly recommend this read to anyone that likes to imagine other worlds whether they are teens or adults. It’s an easy read filled with action and drama.

A fun and fast read. I really enjoyed Abby and going on her journey with her as she discovers she's a wolf shape shifter - and the only female one of her generation. Which leaves her feeling very much the pawn as two powerful clans fight for control over "her." But Abby isn't going to meekly go along with either side.

I really loved this book! Abigail, the main character, is a spunky energetic girl who made me laugh out loud several times. The action in this story is fast-paced, and I enjoyed the unexpected plot twists. The book is a quick read because it's hard to put down.
I'm looking forward to the sequel!

The first book in a great YA Paranormal series, one I thoroughly enjoyed. If you like YA and paranormal this one is a must read. Also check out the second book in this series The Full Moon Rises.

Very good book I read when it came out. I couldn't put it down, which I finished in a day. And I'm reading the rest of the series. It's one of my favorites werewolf series...
