A prisoner aboard a deep-space transport emerges from stasis following a fatal collision with a derelict. Barely able to get off the ill-fated ship in time, he drifts alone through space in an escape capsule before crash-landing on a remote planet with little possibility of rescue.Far from being uninhabited, however, he discovers that the planet is home to an ambitious scientist, Moriel - and his dreadful experiments in genetic manipulation. He soon learns that nothing is what it seems and finds himself as much a prisoner as Moriel's inhuman subjects.
It starts out great. After an exciting escape from a destroyed spaceship, Luke Jared crash-lands on a planet inhabited by a mad scientist, his assistant, and the subjects of their experiments. So far, so good. Things slow down, though. A lot. So much so, that the middle of the book dragged for me. Lots and lots of talking and walking with not much else going on. The author does quite a bit of 'telling' when 'showing' would have made for a more exciting read. There were very few errors in editing and spelling, though, and that always makes me happy. I received a free copy for review.
