Fritz Winter: New Forms

After studying with Oskar Schlemmer, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Fritz Winter decided to devote himself to abstract painting and developed a style all his own. Winter, whose forms continually suggest natural structures such as the growth patterns of plants, rock formations, microorganisms and constellations, became one of the most significant figures in postwar German art. His works on paper offer a particularly clear view of his wide range of themes, his experiments with technique, and his inventive series compositions. New Forms collects some 250 monotypes, gouaches, oil paintings and drawings in pencil, chalk and felt pen.
