Rachel Clancy has been through a lot. With a mission to fight vampires, while losing two boyfriends—one to a vampire and one because of his daddy issues—she is in charge of a secret revolution that could change Genesis, her home, forever. Her confidence is shot, her hands are shaking, and she hasn’t felt a real emotion, except for anger, in a long time.
But Rachel should never be counted out. She sees things others can’t, even if her ideas are considered downright traitorous. The life destined for Rachel is to lead in the world, filled with vampires and werewolves instead of romance and flowers—always forced to fight to stay alive and vanquish any threat to her friends and family. But no matter how many times she’s won, the evil that has stalked her never forgets her name….
It's been a while since I started Rebecca Royce's Warrior series, over three years actually. This did not detract from the story though. In fact, I'd argue that returning to Rachel Clancy's rag-tag crew of teens after a sizeable break was even better than rushing through the series as quickly as I could. Coming back to witness Jason and Rachel's chemistry, Deacon's strange intense emotions and the raging battles between vampires, werewolves and humans was a welcome relief from the ho-hum of some of the other books I've recently been reading.
I enjoyed the action, the deceptions and the wicked twist in the tale. I can honestly say I wasn't expecting that one.
With a very strong theme of independence, yet feeling alone permeating the story, I was left with a strong feeling of desolation at the close.
Luckily, there's another two books in the series, so I know Rebecca will have more twists and turns for me to endure with the crew. Bring it on!!
I did get a little annoyed with all the 'I love you, no, I love you, no I actually love him," that occurred in this book, it was much stronger than I remember it being in the other books. I hope this little issue doesn't become the main theme of the remaining books.
I'll be onto the next ones a lot sooner this time.
What makes a great book? Great characters, great story, can't put it down until you finish.....this book has all of that & more.
I love reading dystopian YA books & this series ranks up there with the best. Anytime that an author can make a sometimes tired genre into something new, they have accomplished a lot. Yes, this book has the usual elements: more than one boy in love with the heroine, a grim future that can only be changed by the young people in society, an evil villain, a non-existent family and loads of angst.
Rachel Clancy is a Warrior because of her genetic makeup. She has no choice but to fight Vampires & Werewolves who threaten the humans who live in Genesis. This is the first dystopian book that I have read that also incorporates some of my favorite supernatural creatures.
By the end of this book, I was ready to hunt Ms. Royce down & slap her. What an emotional roller coaster! With shades of the Hunger Games & Divergent, you will be crying by the end of Subversive. I read the last 2 chapters so fast in order to see what happened that I had to take a day to just digest what I had read.
I look forward to reading more books by this author. I have read the trilogy & each book is absolutely great!
My thoughts: Engaging, entertaining, enthralling. Subversive grabs you at the beginning of the story, holds you tight with passionate characters and doesn't let go through the twists and turns of an imaginative and twisting plot.
The world that Rebecca Royce has created is dark and dangerous. The mind-blowing reality of the world that Rachel lives in is cold and calculated. The story is about betrayal and loss, love and the idea of doing the right thing for what is at that time the right reason.
I would have a hard time choosing between the story and the characters if I had to say which was more compelling to me as a reader. The story is creative, clever and fresh. The characters are a wide variety of personalities, but each elicits an emotional response. Rachel is a strong female lead. She is charismatic, tough and driven. I feared yet another love triangle for a bit as I wasn't sure about her boyfriend issues, but they become clear at the end. My favorite character is Deacon. He is the not-so-silent type, but left me feeling throughout the story that he was the "real deal" as far as the boys in Rachel's life went.
I was sad to see the story end and am hoping for more to come in this series.
Subversive is one of those books that changes everything. Everything I believed to be true in the first two books, changed, and I was just as shocked as the main character, Rachel.
Rachel is depressed in the beginning, sensing that everything she knows is about to change, and that it does. Some changes are harder to accept than others. And in the end, Rachel must make a decision that affects not only her life, but that of everyone she loves.
I recommend this book and the rest of the series to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance and/or young adult novels. I cannot wait to find out what happens next for Rachel.
I absolutely love the Warrior series! These books capture from page one abd I have a hard time putting the book down until the last page. I was not expecting the twist which occurred in the last few chapters, but I can't wait to see what happens next. I have fallen in love with all of the characters, especiallt Deacon!!
Another fabulous book by Rebecca Royce. Every time I think I've figured out what is going on, things change. Now not only is the past history in doubt, but memories as well.
Rachel Clancy is back in Subversive, Book 3 of The Warrior Series. Rachel is without a doubt one of the most kick-ass teen-age heroines ever. We pick back up exactly where we left off. She's tired of living day to day trying to survive vampire and werewolf attacks. She's tired of living by the rules set up by Icahn and still enforced by the adults of Genesis. She's ready to take the fight to their enemies and she has a group of young warriors with her. I love this series; the story, the characters. It's so full of passion, evokes so many emotions from me. It's quite the adventure!
In a world that has dangers, both known and unknown every minute of everyday, you must live every second on full alert. You must be ready to put your life on the line and to kill at all times. There is little room for personal interest. Despite this, Rachel lives. Even when she is numb, confused or hurting, she loves. She loves deeply. But she mostly feels alone. Her pain guts me. Her parent's death and failing, Chad's death, Jason's earlier betrayal and continuing werewolf deferral to his Alpha all hurt her, yet she is loyal to their memory and to their person. She considers herself unworthy, but she is so much better than most. I love the friendship between her and Micah. He's the brother she should have. I am over Jason. I understand pack law, but it makes him too weak for Rachel. I am in Deacon's corner now. This boy has been in love since he first saw her in a cage. She may consider him her best friend. There's no denying that, but he could also be the one. His honesty, his humor is exactly what she needs. Every time she comes into her tent to find him asleep, it makes me smile.
Each book of this series seems to get better and better. This one is so full of action, suspense, betrayals (both real and imaginary). It has surprises, some shocking. It's frustrating, gut-wrenching, gripping. It's addictive.
Rebecca Royce is an excellent author. She's imaginative. Her books are so original, full of twists and turns. There is no way you can ever predict what the next page will bring, much less how the book will turn out. She creates strong female characters and places them in these incredible worlds. They are surrounded by complex casts. Her characters are beautifully flawed and better because of their imperfections. This book is the perfect example. I was spellbound. I was enthralled. My heart celebrated with Rachel, cried with her, fumed with her. I was with her every step of the way. And when the book was over I was in disbelief. I got answers, I got my heart broken. This can't be it. I can't wait to see what is next for Rachel. This girl deserves much more. She deserves a HEA in an impossible world.
It seems my obsession for this series knows no bounds. This third book in the series absolutely blew me away! I really never know what to expect with this series. Just when I think I have a handle on it, boom, everything changes. With an ever intriguing plot, fantastic writing, and characters that jump right off the page, this series just gets better and better. I'm totally in love with these characters! They're so authentic, engaging, and passionate that they just draw you right into the story making you believe in this dystopian reality the author has created for us. This book will hook you right from the beginning and you will remain riveted to the very last page. I, quite literally, could not put this book down, reading it straight through. This book is inventive and insightful, impassioned and exciting, enchanting and enthralling, and romantic yet heartbreaking. I would highly recommend this book and this entire series, and I can't wait to read more!
*I was given a copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review. All opinions are my own.
So fantastic! I have really fallen in love with this series and Rachel. She may be a teenager and a young Warrior but that does not mean she is indestructible. She is human and she does have a heart. A heart that can be broken and become too weary for her 17 years. Especially as the last book left us with her need for revenge and action, which the adult Warriors seem unable to do. Leadership of her band does take its toll on Rachel and while the last book had a lot going on and plenty of action Subversive has more so. And so many What the? moments. Plus there were aeveral things I did not expect, but thought there was something hinky going on in the last book. There were things bugging me. But you will get some of those answers! And so many more questions!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Another fantastic read. The series continues with book three where the world that was created for our characters is dark and dangerous, and the characters are strong and driven. A very exciting and captivating storyline, that's filled with action, love, loss, and betrayal. This book is so intriguing it keeps you glued to the pages with its highs and lows, twists and turns. Once again this author has done an amazing job, very enjoyable read. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The world is in the middle of armageddon and the human race is trying to survive. Rachel is one of the humans still alive. At 17 years old her life has been hard a full of heartbreak and love too. Because of her DNA she is also a hunter and able to fight the monster. Love the character she is amazing as are the other characters in the story. Don't want to give anything away but wow. It's an amazing emotional roller coaster ride. It has twist and turns, deception, evil bad guys and more. Don't miss this one or the whole series Voluntarily reviewed and I honestly loved it!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily decided to review it
Third book in and the action and excitement does not stop, loads more twists and turns that you do not see coming, that keep you on the edge of your seat
Rachel Clancy's life just keeps getting harder and harder, Rebecca Royce has written a real rollercoaster of a series and I am addicted
I highly recommend this fabulous series and I am so looking forward to seeing what happens next
I've hit midpoint in this series and just as I settled into the world...wham, a few twists I didn't see coming, tragedy and betrayal. Rachel is thrown for a loop and I just felt heart sorry for her.
Rachel once again is the trooper we know that she is, sacrificing all she holds dear for her friends, family and those she loves. The love-rectangle she has found herself caught up in doesn't really get any easier for her and ultimately she may lose everyone she holds dear.
This series is absolutely blowing my mind. I'll have one hell of a book hangover when I finish this collection of amazing stories. The writer grips you from the first paragraph and always follows on directly from where they leave off on their previous book in the series. A talented woman and I look forward to reading many more from her.
Oh dear! I’ve been enjoying this series but this one I just couldn’t settle with Rachel was a bit whiney and it didn’t seem to gel like the other books. The ending was completely what sideswiped me I’m not sure what to make of it all. Usually Rebecca’s books have me loving them but this just threw me. I’m confused.
My mind is blown!!! From paranormal to sci-fi in the blink of an eye! Rebecca has knocked this one out of the park as she chokes us with our heart strings. I just need time to process this one. I just . . . wow. And there's more! Excellent book!!
The world changed so much. After taking on vampires at home to keep their families safe the young vampire hunters decided to take the fight to them . Story keeps you guessing until the surprise ending. Good read.
Rachel's survival depends on three things: her ability to merge herself into her new life without causing suspicion to arise, her tenancity in finding the secrets from the habitat she lives in, and her gaining strength to overcome the deadly battle that lurks in the darkness.
What??!!! What just happened?? This book is amazing, just like the rest of them! And I can't wait for the next one! Rebecca really messes with your head in this one, but it still rocks! <3
So a little better than the last two. Quick read. Still lots of lost potential, inconsistencies and grammar errors. Love triangle reminds me deeply of Twilight.
SUBVERSIVE-The Warrior-Book 3- An enthralling story of adventure and romance. I adore, series, you get acquainted with all the amazing characters, and the characters in this series, are sultry, powerful, and full of surprises....
This story features Rachel Clancy an intelligent, audacious, 17 year old genetically born Warrior; Jason, a strapping wolf-shifter, Deacon, a gorgeous, powerful Warrior and the voice of reason. Micah, a stoic warrior and Chad's brother.
What you'll find in this story; a cast of amazing impressive and engaging characters, magnificent story-line, powerful and fascinating scene descriptions, fabulous banter, pent-up rage, gut-wrenching moments, life threatening incidents, astonishing reveals, camaraderie, betrayal, werewolves, vampires, intrigue, gripping suspense, romance, and a shocking conclusion that leaves you awe-struck awaiting the answers you desire.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE fast paced well written read by a genuinely creative author. I relished this story; an exhilarating, emotional, gratifying read from beginning to end. The characters are convincing and certainly praise-worthy. Rachel's risk-taking/selfless deeds proves she is a valiant hero. I eagerly await the next book in this captivating series. If you dote on paranormal fantasy this is an excellent choice for your library. {I was given a copy of this book for a completely truthful review}. In the world of paranormal fantasy the possibilities are endless and always fascinating. Without reservations I highly recommend this book and series.
Subversive: The Warrior Book 3 By Rebecca Royce ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I was given this book to read and give a honest review.
WOW I must say it again WOW!!! Subversive is a well written story by a brilliantly creative Rebecca Royce. Subversive Book3 will keep you on the edge of your seat. The storyline is surprising, suspenseful, emotional, spectacular and flows at a good pace. The characters are powerful, very impressive, engaging, potent and fascinating. Book 3 Subversive has more rage, more gut-wrenching incidents, unbelievable life threatening situations, saving more humans and family problems. An enthralling adventure and romance. I love reading this series, you get learn more about the war with werewolves, vampires It's all so amazing and the characters have a lot more surprises in store.
In book 3 Rachel Clancy a clever 17 year old leader of the warriors. Chad sacrifice himself for Racheal, Jason isn't what you would think, Deacon is a surprise and a leader. They still may have something in common maybe Rachel. What you'll find in Subversive will knock you for a loop, nothing may be as it seem. The characters are still spectacular, fascinating and the conclusion leaves you wanting it to never end.
There will be no sleeping or eating or putting this fantastic, very emotional read down until you finish. This is a MAGNIFICENT paranormal fantasy that is a MUST READ for your TBR List! For the world of paranormal romance the possibilities are unlimited and fascinating. I absolutely Love reading this series it's one I will read again and again!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Ms. Royce's books always seem to get better and better as you go. Book One was Great, Book Two OMG and now Book Three Phenomenal. There is so much going on. Love, Betrayal, twists and turns just when you think you figure it out it twists and turns again. Poor Rachel Clancy was in a depression, she is suffering because she had to kill Chad, the one she loved, it was heart rendering for her for me too for that matter. Geezzzzz she needs a break I mean Jason was supposed to be her and he up and left. Well technically he didn't, but hey she didn’t know that. Than the was Deacon good grief he was annoying. One minute I hated him the next I loved him. But No, he not boyfriend material Deacon, Not for me.. I had Jason then Chad then Jason again, nope I can't have Deacon. I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful review.

What a kicker that Royce throws at us in the third installment of the series “Warriors.” I was sucked into this book from the first page and was super lucky because I had the fourth book waiting for me so I didn’t have to wait to see what was going to happen.
The Warrior series has been a favorite series of The BookWhisperer’s and I am here to say that it is still one of our favorites. Rachel is a kick butt kind of a girl and that is exactly what we love, a girl who can take care of herself. Which is definitely needed when you find out what has really happened and how these monsters came about. I never saw it coming. This twist was such a surprise for me so a high-five to you Rebecca Royce for throwing me off of my game.
Rachel has become more of a warrior than ever in this book and it was good to see her struggle with the power that came with it. Although she wanted to free the humans in the vampire lairs, she also didn’t want such the responsibility that came with this control. It was really tug-of-war on her emotions. Rachel is only 17 years old in this book and she is leading raids but in the back of her mind, she just wants to be a teenage girl who doesn’t have to struggle with being in charge of her group’s lives.
By now I have become addicted to Rachel and her world. She is young but what she has gone through makes her mentally older than most. By now also I wonder how much more fighting can they do, how much longer will they live. This author will give you even more mind boggling events that they will endure. She will also play effectively with your emotions as she does it. Fine example is after she has rescued a baby and mother from death from a vampire they go forth with the one mission and they get trapped. The one she is trapped with though has really set her up and by the end of that event you want to slap somebody. The wolf she believes she loves will show his true colors in this one to the point that he will not wash clean. Right when you think everyone has lost their mind your mind will be blown by what this author will reveal in this one on what is really going on leaving you with your mouth open for anything to come in. What she does reveal is way beyond anything I would of thought of but oh so good. Several things will be explained but you will by then be so immersed there will be no turning back.

Rachel is still hurting from Chad’s death and Jason leaving for his pack. But now that Genesis is above ground she is going to have to put those feeling aside and fight to keep everyone safe. Although things look bleak, she still keeps fighting the secret revolution. But this is starting to weigh heavily on Rachel. How can one person be so important but feel like they are the only one fighting? But then a nasty twist just ratchets up the excitement.
Just when you think that it couldn’t get any worse, surprise! Rachel is starting to get burned out fighting, especially when it seems everyone is against her and she can trust no one. Then things change and turn everything on end.
I can’t get enough of this series. Just when you think you have it figured out you realize that there is way more happening. I can’t help but feel for Rachel. For her I hope there is an end in sight. But as a reader, I can’t wait to see what happens and don’t want this series to end.
I received Subversive for free from Candid Book Reviews in exchange for an honest review.
Well, I have officially removed this series from the GoodStuffs shelf, but I'm still interested to see how the story all plays out. The big ol' twist at the end was something that I wasn't expecting, and I'm usually pretty damn good at sniffing out the twists. However, I'm still more than a little bit confused as to the details of said twist and the involvement of certain characters in it. Also, how did they get all of the people to the facility? And why the hell did they need Rachel's help (or permission, or whatever), when they obviously already had the means to drag people in and put them under? And what did he mean by Huge gaps in the storytelling like that are what made me demote this series from the GoodStuffs shelf.
