Taylor Marshal and her daughter need protecting, yet the bodyguard assigned is the one man she fears the most.
Four years earlier, Taylor gave her heart to a stranger – and married him in a quick Bermuda ceremony. A week later her hopes were crushed when she finds out her new husband, Cory Ross, was a hit man. When she witnesses him take another man’s life then watches her new found love fall from a cliff after being shot, her heart shatters. Now she sees Cory Ross is alive – and back in her life as her own personal bodyguard, yet how can she trust him?
Cory thought his luck had changed after his near death experience in the Bahamas. But when he looks into the eyes of the woman who he suspects had something to do with his accident, he realizes his new assignment to protect Taylor and her young daughter will be a literal nightmare. But to fall in love all over again with Taylor Marshall will be sheer torture.
Cover is misleading. This is an LDS author and the romance was pretty tame. There were a lot of editing errors which made it hard to read at times. While I really liked the hero, the heroine really grated on me. Her personality just didn't make sense, one minute she's a blithering idiot and the next a strong woman who can hold a gun on someone only to turn into a crying mess again. It also seemed that these two were more in lust with each other than in love. Overall, my least favorite book from this author. I really like her historical novels much better.
I'm not expecting much from romance novels, just some light entertainment, so when it's bad, it's really bad. This book had potential to be good, but the decisions and actions of the characters were way too simplistic, considering one is supposed to be a former FBI agent and the other is the daughter of a billionaire who's receiving threats on their lives! One minute they were worried about the stalker, and the next minute they were doing something silly, like fishing outdoors, while knowing there's danger lurking. Just didn't buy it at all. It was also super repetitive in why the characters didn't want to "like" each other, but again, a simple conversation could have sorted everything out. I skimmed the last bit of the book (I find it hard to just put down a book unfinished) - didn't get any better at the end.
I LOVE IT!!!!! It had twists, it had turns, the plot was awesome. I thought I had it smuggly all figured out and I was blown away. It kept me intrigued and at the edge of my seat the whole time. This is after I was affraid to read it, the cover had me nervous even though I've begun to trust this author with my heart and mind. I've had that trust broken before with other books, but she is true to morals and cleanliness and I'm taking the plung and reading, "Secrets after dark" Next. THese two I've been nervous about, but I am not anymore. I'm plunging in with both feet. I'm excited about this author and her books! I soooooo recommend them All so far but I'll keep you updated. Can't wait to finish the other series of hers too. LOVE IT!
Just like the first time I read it, till this time it is still a great little book. There were a couple things that kind of annoyed me and it was mainly with Taylor. Overall, the story was great and really enjoyed reading it again. I am a sucker for lost love and finding it again, even if there is a little tension in the mix before it makes its way back to normal, lol.
If you are looking for a nice little story, pick up this book and read it! :)
I love this book and I completely felt that Taylor and Cory were a couple in love. We don't get to see their time in Bermuda which probably has a lot to do with why some may feel that it's more lust than anything. I didn't see it and I'm more open minded. The whole back and forth between them about whether they're good or bad was necessary and believable for me. Cory took guarding Taylor as a job and he didn't kill her the first chance he got, I think deep down Taylor knew she had nothing to worry about. It was more her using that as an excuse to remind herself why she shouldn't get involved with him so she didn't get hurt again. The same thing applied to Cory, he knew that she wasn't involved in his attempted murder, but he kept telling himself she was so she couldn't hurt him. His thing was that he thought she abandoned him. I did enjoy how everything came to light though and appreciated that the author took her time in bringing them back together again. That's one of my favorites things about her. She doesn't rush anything and it makes it that much more sweet to read.
Taylor's daughter was not an issue in the book and early on its clarified who her father is which was no surprise as its not the primary conflict. Although I don't think that her father would have been able to deduce that she was automatically his without it being confirmed by Taylor herself. It could have been anyone and just because she looks like someone or has similar traits to them doesn't mean that she's his. I would have like to see more doubt because he accepted her too easily without making sure she was his first.
Taylor as a whole, I loved her, she has a huge heart and does her best to try to please everyone around her even though she doesn't want to. Although reluctant at first, she accepted that she needed help in protecting herself and her daughter. She had her faults but by no means knew she was perfect and her daughters safety was always first priority. Cory was amazing, he's completely selfless and always looking out for others before himself. He's a natural protector at heart and the best for the job. He's incredibly forgiving and an undercover softy. Taylor and Cory together were just perfect. I would have liked to see some flashbacks or a couple of scenes when Cory and Taylor were together in Bermuda though. I think it would have added to the story seeing what they were like four years ago before when they were single and had no responsibilities. I only wish the story would have been a little longer but the storyline worked well as it was.
Some small things that weren't a huge issue but just a little awkward were the pet names and some dialogue. Not a huge deal, I could replace them with something else in my head. It just sounded very awkward when the male characters besides Taylor's father referred to her as darling, my dear, and honey considering they're supposed to be young and modern characters. They're very dated terms but because Marie is more of a historical fiction writer I can give that a pass because it's probably habit. The dialogue is done well but like the previous statement her historical fiction voice shows a lot in a modern day book. The formality in which the characters talk to each other sometimes makes it hard to remember that this is modern times. Again these things are minor to me but may be a problem for others who can't overlook dialogue that meshes together two different voices. Me, I'm just focused on the story and it delivered.
Now the one thing I felt that took away from the book is very minor but at the same time major for me. I understand it's the author's prerogative and she's recently decided to now exclude sex scenes when writing books. Nothing wrong with that, but I read a version of this book before that did include the sex scene and it made a whole lot of difference for me. It would be different if the book was completely clean and there was no sexual tension in this book but there was. It was building and building all the way up until...nothing. I was looking forward to that part and it just didn't happen. To be fair, the author did inform me beforehand that this book was retitled and cleaned up. Then I saw an Amazon reviewer said she felt this was too racy and that it wasn't her idea of a clean romance. I took that as ok this still has the sex scene in it which is what I wanted. But it didn't and that left me somewhat disappointed and a little cheated because I think it added to the story so much after giving you all those intense scenes where it makes you think it's gonna happen but doesn't. Like I said, if it was just clean I can get over the no sex scene. But it had some sensual scenes that felt they were teasing for what was to come and for it not to deliver, it took away from the book for me.
Above all I did love the story, the characters, and appreciated the book. There was only one major thing I didn't like with the book which I can't really fault the author for because she did let me know before buying. It's just more personal preference I guess and because I know what the story was like with a certain scene added. The other things didn't bother me just made it a little awkward reading so I'm giving four stars for this one.
In The Arms of Danger by Marie Higgins was an entertaining romantic suspense. Yes, I have not been on the edge of my seat turning kindle pages like this since Roxanne St. Claire's Bullet Catcher Series & Pamela Clare's I-Team Series! This was my first read from author Marie Higgins & it will definitely not be my last! I was truly impressed with her writing and story telling. The story sucks you right in from the beginning & takes you on a non-stop ride filled with suspense, twist and turns, betrayals, lies, misunderstandings, action, and did I mention hot sexual tension? ;)
The summary description provided a well-summarized plot of In the Arms of Danger therefore, I will not regurgitate it. What I will say is that this novel was well-written and I enjoyed every page of it. It was fast-paced, filled with great characters, a good storyline and a great plot. This was not one of those novels where the reader automatically knows "whodunnit." No, Ms. Higgins teases, packs in twist & turns & suspense that makes the reader hold on until the very end to find out "whodunnit" which is what I think romantic suspense should be. Overall, I highly enjoyed this entertaining read. Author Marie Higgins is definitely an author to look out for in the Romance genre! With that said, yes, I highly recommend this novel. Romantic Suspense fans will not be disappointed!
This was a pretty good book. The first I read by this author. I felt that the summary really described the initial part of the book. The mystery of the book was great. It did lag some in the middle while they were on the run, but they were also getting to know each other. Some critics say that they were just in lust with each other but they had spent a whole month together in the Bahamas 24/7 with each other that we don't read the day in and day out about that they were totally in love with each other. I met my husband at age 17 in 1983 & within a month I knew he was the man for me & we have been happily married for over 27 years. So I can understand knowing someone less than a month and being madly in love with them and making a lasting lifelong relationship full of love with them. This book also has plenty of action and suspense. Definitely worth the read! I will read more of this author.
Not for me. I just haven't had luck with this authors contemporary books, I like her historicals much better. The idea for the story was good, the execution...not so much. I didn't like the characters, especially our heroine. She was just awful, whiney, bratty and made no sense. I ended up skipping most of this one, just didn't connect with it at all. I'd say this was cheesy, repetitive and underdeveloped.
I have to say that I really did enjoy this story the book was well written, I loved the descriptions the author used in the book made me really get the feel for where the characters were. Although I thought I had figured out who did it I did keep questioning myself so that is always a good thing in a suspense book.
Again-looks slutty on the cover, but this author writes Mormon fiction, and this book is clean as far as sex. It's only two stars because the author was repetative and the plot didn't move along fast enough for me. The main characters story didn't seem realistic at all either. It was another Kindle freebie.
Quick read. Very enjoyable story. I hate to complain about the kindle freebies, but the editing was pretty bad in this one. The author couldn't remember what scent it was that Taylor used, it went back and forth through the entire book along with quite a lot of typos.
I love mystery books. This one had me guessing throughout the whole story. Sure near the end I figured who it was but couldn't believe it. A bigger surprise was the acomplice. That blew my mind. How does Marie think up this stuff to put into a book? I have no idea but glad she does. Such an enjoyable read & well-done job!!!!! Keep up the good work. I received a free copy. This is my voluntary, honest review.
First book by Marie Higgins. Taylor wasn't a lovable person. She said she loved Cory, but doubted him. This book only hinted at a sexual encounter when they were alone. You would think with all the talk of how they felt it would have been toooo hot between the two of them. The only interesting check is the stalker. I never imagined that person. Zack needs a book though.
I listened to the audiobook of this book. Narration was great. Taylor needs a bodyguard to protect herself and her daughter. They think it is someone after her Father's money. Unfortunately, the bodyguard assigned to her, Cory is the same man she met four years ago and is afraid of, but her Father doesn't want to hear it. Cory can't believe his new assignment, the woman he met in Bermuda and never could find her again. Great story line and characters. I was given a copy of this book, by the author for a honest review.
I have to say, I've read a few of Marie Higgins' books and so far, this one has been THE best!! I loved it. The suspense, the hot but clean romance, the steamy scenes, the action, trying to figure out the mystery (I was right in guessing who was behind it)... Wow! I highly recommend this book. Maturely and passionately written, this definitely deserves the 5 star rating I'm giving it. I'm sure I will be reading it again in the future too; it's that good. Two thumbs up for In the Arms of Danger!
What a terrible reading experience ! Inane plot, dumber than dumb H/h, no chemistry between them, no steaming sex, nothing ! Please, don`t waste your time on this one...
PG - intense moments (kidnapping), Sex: some kissing, Language: no swearing. Don't be put off by the cheesy cover. This is a pretty exciting and clean read.
