3.5🌟 not because the book is mediocre or writing is bad. It’s quite opposite actually. It’s wonderfully executed with fantastic plot. But i hated many instances and scenes. I’m also still not sure about Norah. But Soren was fantastic. I never thought that grumpy obnoxious commander will grow on me.
This is a three POV book, told by the POV´s of Norah, Mikael and Soren.
I kind of started to dislike a few people in this book, including Norah; and started liking a few people I used to dislike, including Soren. Norah came across as so naive and sometimes even childish in this book. I don´t know why but sometimes it seems like she is lacking the comprehension to not do certain things. Mikael was, well Mikael, I felt pretty neutral towards him in this book, which is a shame because I liked him in the first. I came to like Soren because he feels a bit more "human" in here and like his icy demeanour is starting to melt a bit.
Regarding side characters, I liked Calla and her brother, but I would have wished to know a bit more about their background and there story going forward. Vitalia was less in the book then I had hoped for but I am glad I got to see a bit more of Tahla.
Regarding the plot, WHERE IS THE FLAVOUR. This whole book was basically miscommunication and marital problems. I don´t think there were at least three chapters after each other where they didn´t fight, which made the chemistry non existing for me. Also how do those two have the weirdest marital problems!? For example when Mikael (the effin shadow king who is known for being ruthless and merciless etc) tries to punish people for murder, she is PUBLICLY being like "no. no. mercy. you can´t do that.". Like hun, that is your husband, you´re supposed to be queen, you can´t publicy stand against your husband, ofc he´s gonna be a bit angry about it. And I know that mercy is supposed to be a thing, but it went so far that it got annoying and made her look naive. And he already has a reputation, but then everytime he acts only slightly according to his reputation she is like "but pookie".
What absolutely upset me about it was
The pacing itself is fine, but I found myself not really caring about the characters anymore. You can´t expect any spice from this book ( as well as romance *cough cough*) and I´d say this was definitely more "character driven" then filled with action scenes. Although the character development severely lacked for me.
Overall it wasn´t my idea of a fun time and I don´t think I´ll be continuing this series.
WOW. Just wow. This book is epic. There is love. There is betrayal. There is political intrigue. There are moments when I was pissed at our characters and moments when I wanted to hug them. There are twists and turns that I DID NOT see coming. And another cliffhanger that left me wrecked. I sat in my feels for a few days after this one. This book kept me on my toes and I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the ending.
I love that this series is not predictable. I have never been so caught off guard by what happened in a book and I keep theorizing about what’s to come and I still have no idea which way things will go. I’m literally counting down the days until I can read the next book.
There is so much depth to our main characters - Norah really comes into her own and starts to BELIEVE she can be the queen she wants to be. She loves Mikael deeply and prioritizes him as her husband, but she still can’t deny there is a deep abiding affection for Alexander as well. Alexander is still torn and hurt, but there is hope on the horizon for him. Mikael is so desperately vulnerable and raw - he feels so human and so fallible with jealousy and doubt that you just ache for him. We see him as a man, and not just the Shadow King. And Soren. Dear sweet grumpy cupcake-of-a-man Soren with his morally grey heart of gold and unwavering loyalty. It is impossible not to love him- he must be protected at all costs!
This book was amazing in so many ways, but one of the things I loved most was that we get to see glimpses into the lives of some of the side characters. Adrian is creating a new life for himself in Kharav, Caspian finds love in the canyons. The lands of Mercia and Kharav are blending and coming to understand each other a bit more as their people get to know one another. Norah and Mikael are no longer the only ones invested in establishing a deeper connection between the two kingdoms. There is still so much to come…so many people we still need to meet that have been alluded to and I know there is another rollercoaster ride ahead. But I am here for whatever is coming!! Sign me up, I’m ready for WAR QUEEN!!!
Thank you @Booksirens and @NicolaTyche for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review - I am honored!!
Yine Reddit çarptı. İlk kitaptaki güzel dünya kurgulaması saçma sapan dörtgenlere heba oldu. Soru işaretlerimizin cevabı aşırı yavan ve özensizdi. Seriye burda veda ediyorum. Bu kitabı ne romantasy saymalı ne de fantasy. Atananamış GOT olabilir ancak.
This book is so Wild™️. First and foremost, this series is about politics. It’s super intriguing in the way that you don’t know who the fuck anyone is fighting for or against - which is a really great depiction of real life politics. If that’s your thing, this is great for it!
Norah is a woman fighting in a ‘man’s world’ with societal expectations that vary across peoples and it’s done really well and empathetically. She’s also so sick and tired of men just killing without thinking things through and we really get to see her making strides in this second installment.
The spice notches up considerably from the first book (🌶️🌶️). And it even takes some interesting and super hot roads while doing it.
This book is full of OH 💩 moments. And now I’m reading the last book of this trilogy.
I am so glad to be back in this world. Just like the first book, this story had me gripped and fully invested in the characters. With plot twists, secrets, and a quest to find the Seer, Tyche once again made the characters come to life. The political intrigue and betrayal are definitely more prominent in this book, in my opinion, and I felt we are being prepared for something major happening in the third book, especially if you think about that ending! The romance, the characters, I loved it all. Mikael is my favorite! I am so excited for the third book and to find out what happens next. This series is so well-written that I saw it as a movie on screen, I could picture the setting all the way to the finest detail of the clothes.
Many thanks to MTMC Tours and the author for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was really obsessed with the first book and went mad waiting for this one. I loved it but I personally not a fan of multiple pov's . Mikeal seems to be going paranoid and mad from all these visions from the seer which is ruining his relationship. I was hoping that Norah got her memories back because it's seems like it's coming in the way of her relationships and just seems down right bad. I have high hopes for Norah , I think she's really smart and would figure out that it seems like the visions from the seers are false. Especially since 1. The bear in the vision wasn't Alexander and 2. The woman of the wild said that Alexander was a seer himself so he doesn't come up in visions and there's a block on him. Which means that either it's visions of what was supposed to occur or they're just fake. Anyway call me selfish but I'm not a fan dof Alexander moving on that fast from Norah, he definitely deserves someone especially because I think his love for Norah is more of an obsession and not really as pure as was when they were younger. I have an inkling we're gonna find out tahlia is pregnant with Caspian's baby. And I honestly feel bad for the commander, that was a really big post twist, imagine being in love with your half brother and not knowing about it. Also salary Mae is a bitch. I suspect that someone is purposely coming in the way of Norah giving birth to an heir which is honestly sad since she doesn't remember her father and doesn't have a a healthy relationship with her grandmother or anyone from her past. She literally only has mikeal and Alexander. And Alexander has moved on.
Lastly why on earth are all these men of the north who have been virtuous all their lives just sleeping with the first kharvahi women that gives them attention. Weird
reading this book basically felt like a chore to me. the looming sense of dread with the prophecies is not enough to really engage the reader in the plot of the book. Norah is a pacifist yet does nothing as queen politically, and basically the entire book is just a bunch of politics with a few smut scenes in between. some of the side characters have compelling stories like Caspian and Tahla but they are overshadowed by the repetitive actions that happen between Norah and Mikael; she gets mad at him and then they have sex and forgive each other. I'm only reading the final book in this series because I feel like I need to know how it ends, but this was such a bore.

This instalment was excellent with a lot of intrigue and we get to know the characters better. However I didn’t like some aspects of the storyline, and some decisions made by the characters, so I am giving it 4.
3.5⭐️ I was between 3-4⭐️ on this one because there were some plots I was just…idk. I have a lot of notes on this one! Mikael and Norah’s relationship took turn after turn after turn which was annoying. Soren!!!! The baby. Adrian!!! The baby! Alexander. Caspian, Tahla, Cohen and Calla!!! There were many characters I loved but some I got sick of! Also it felt like there were a lot of plot holes, but I’m sure they get filled in the third book. We’ll see! This was read in less than 24hrs so maybe that had something to do with my 3.5. The way this book ended😭 maybe it’s a 4🤷♀️
AHHH this series! I absolutely love it with my whole heart.
The second installment in the Crowns series had to be my favorite of the trilogy. Norah was really coming into her own in this one and I loved seeing her grow as a character as she helped rule over Kharav. She is strong-willed and fearless, despite what she's been through, and I admire her greatly. She's not afraid to stand up for what is right, even if it goes against tradition or customs, and is constantly approaching everyone with an open heart, ready to listen and learn, as well as be their advocate in her royal position. I'm also enjoying reading about her struggles juggling two completely different worlds, the Shadowlands and Mercia, that are so important to her. Sometimes politics in fantasy reads can go over my head, but it is just so well done, interesting and easy to grasp in this trilogy that I am devouring it.
Mikael and Norah are everything, their banter and their tension is unmatched. But I also love how he has such a soft heart for her. He's willing to listen and change his ways for the better, and in turn he's also done the same for Norah.
Norah and Soren, I CAN'T. Why is their budding friendship the most wholesome thing ever?! I adore them, and I also just love how Soren is starting to crack his hard exterior in her wake. Norah seems to genuinely touch everyone she comes across in this trilogy and the Destroyer is no exception.
I will continue to recommend this series to anyone and everyone - the political intrigue matched with the fantastical elements, so many questions constantly left to be answered and the steamy love triangle surrounding our Salara, chefs kiss. These characters all have a special place in my heart.
I wrote this on Amazon but I’m posting it here too
Omg I loved this book it was like taking a roller coaster ride in the dark: I didn’t know what was coming except it kept coming the entire time!
Okay can’t believe the cliff hanger: Soren!
I want her to be with Soren so damn bad. I think he lied and said he had a male lover in the vision but really it was Norah. Just like he lied to Norah and told her at first that the vision showed him that he was the one to kill her. PLEASE let Soren be her final man.
I’m convinced she sleeps with Alexander to kill him or something and Soren kills the shadow king wearing Alexander’s armor.
Norah has been checking Soren out for forever and they have a serious love hate thing happening. Geez what a delicious development. Especially since I hated Soren last book.
The shadow king this book is so moody and whiny I just can’t get behind him. And does she even REALLY love the shadow king? Because she was THIS close to sleeping with another person twice times two different men and Norah also kissed Alexander twice! Like come on. And Soren has had her back the entire time more than the shadow king has and now we know Soren is royalty ugh please let him get with her.
The vision says she rides with Soren to aleon and I hope it’s as a couple.
The world development and war is great too
definitely recommend and can’t wait to read the next one. it had better be long because I have serious questions!!:)
I don’t know what type of drug/magic that Nicola keeps pouring into her writing but whew-I am obsessed! This is the second book following the North Queen. This beautiful story kept my undivided attention, no different from book #1 (North Queen). This book follows Queen Norah and her internal and external fight to find the strength to be Queen of Mercia and Salara, along with creating love, trust, and unity between two kingdoms that have long hated one another. We also get an insight to the inner workings/thoughts from multiple characters which contributes to overall character development. The character development and growth has progressed so beautifully and wonderfully-I’m still reeling and have found myself coming to love a character I knew I absolutely hated in the first book 🤯. The loss and growth of relationships is soul crushing and invigorating but somehow remains so beautiful and adds so much life to this whole story. The depth and attention to detail builds this world and story to new heights, one I didn’t know could get any higher. This suspense and twists and turns continue to floor me. Many times I thought I knew what was coming next only to be left shaking my head, wondering what in the world just happened. I honestly don’t know how Nicola does it! But I love it and I can’t wait to get my hands on the third book: War Queen.
The character development in this series is absolutely next-level. I cannot wait until book three is out.
EDIT: Okay I have been thinking about this book all day and there are two main things I love:
1) the depictions of male vulnerability and pain. I feel like especially in fantasy, there is such a prevalence of the "alpha male" who's sassy and strong and manages to show conventionally palatable vulnerability only with the FMC. This series is very different. We see male friendships and familial relationships as well as romantic relationships, and we see what it looks like when men react in ways that are NOT conventionally palatable and it feels really real. Nicola doesn't try to excuse any of her characters' bad actions away, she just shows the consequences and how everyone tries to move forward.
And 2) the limits of compassion and empathy. Norah has a kind heart and it's what I love so much about her, but even kind people need to have their limits. I, like Norah, am the kind of person who will give second and third and fourth chances even when they aren't deserved. It's really satisfying to see her realizing her own strength and learning when to strike back.
I cannot wait to see what happens in War Queen. I hope she burns everything to the ground.
3.5 stars. I have mixed feelings over this book. On the one hand, the writing is quite good and there’s enough intrigue in the story to keep me interested and wanting to read this series to the end.
On the other hand, the story is a little messy and not at all what the synopsis makes it out to be. I was expecting there to be three main characters, Norah, Mikael and Alexander and the conflict between them and their kingdoms. Instead, Mikael felt like a side character and the romance between him and Norah felt like an afterthought and acted as a filler. I couldn’t tell you a single thing he does in this book other than trying to have a baby with Norah.
Soren though. Soren is the main character without meaning to be the MMC. His development is what I expected the shadow king to have. He’s probably the best developed in the series and his relationships between all the characters, specifically Norah is what’s moving this story along.
Ok the vibes in this one were insane I literally was holding on for dear life during this book. The twists and turns my mouth was on the floor for the majority of this book. But there were still parts that were hard to follow and confusing to read which is the reason for 4 ⭐️ but I did read this in less than 24 hours so it was a good time. I still cannot get over the 👶 plot line and all that it included and the fever kind of triggered me at the end lol.
*reread: Again this only gets better with a reread. I don’t know what Nicola put in these books but everytime I pick them up I can’t put them down.
This book does NOT suffer from second book syndrome. If anything, it’s somehow even BETTER than book one. The character development and growth in this book…. Gahhhhh
I cannot explain how desperately I need book three and how eternally grateful I am that Nicola is rapid releasing 🙌
THIS SERIES! This is how you do a fantasy romance. The character development! The slowly revealing mystery! I love these characters! I already know this is one of my top series of the year and it’s only book two!
After finishing the first book in this series I immediately ran to my hubby insisting I get the second book in the series – so here we are.
Norah fled Mikael, fled Kharava, she was sick of being kept in the dark, sick of being restrained and feeling like a prisoner. So, she did the only thing she could, the only thing that made any sense, she sought Odepeth. She was determined to find the Seer and see the visions for herself, see what the Seer had shown Mikael – to try and make sense of what was coming for them all.
But what she sees doesn’t make sense, it can’t be – what was shown, surely it won’t come to pass.
Norah has other issues, other worries weighing in on her. Enemies seem to be closing in, it was getting harder to tell friend from foe. To make matters worse, despite Norah and Mikael being together for months – there is still no sign of an heir, causing the Kharavian nobles to become restless and stir trouble.
The attempts on her life don’t help and Alexander definitely doesn’t help with the tension and the divide that is slowly building between Norah and Mikael. Yet if they are to keep their kingdoms whole, they must find a way to repair the rift growing between them.
“Shadow Queen” is the exciting and action-packed sequel to North Queen. I completely devoured this book in under 24 hours – it is seriously that good. And like I said about the first book I do not understand why more people aren’t talking about this author and this amazing series she has written. The only thing that was frustrating about this book was Norah’s constantly flip flopping with her situation and with Alexander and Mikael – seriously you can’t have your cake and eat it too – I'd pick Mikael any day over Alexander because he is someone who listens to what you want and does what's best for you rather than putting his own needs first. Which brings me to Soren – he started out as such a gruff and rough person but by the end of the story he really started to thaw and become someone that was just a bit warmer, maybe even nice. I just hope everything works out in the next book.
Wow. Alliances. Battle strategy. Loyalty. Magic. Testing of fate. This series has me captivated on so many levels. Sadly had more romance than I thought was necessary but kept me on my toes and ready for the next one:)
If you’re looking for a series that is heavy on plot and politics with a side of romance you’ve found it. Wow!! There are still so many things at play and I can’t even begin to speculate where the story is going.
ahhhh so many twists & turns in this one! giving this 4 stars because there were a few plot lines that felt wrong to me, but overall it was a fun read and I need the next one immediately!
A bit of a snooze fest, not gonna lie… there’s a lot happening but none of it really seems super important and it’s verrryyy repetitive. idk i’m gonna read the last one and we’ll see if it picks back up.
This made me feel all type of feels. The pain the love the happiness the joy. At first I love how different relationships progressed and were given more time in this book that what you would expect from a not main character couple.
Tahla is like a sister I wish was real. God know how mine is. But I love her sarcasm and answers. And the unexpected confession but still defending Caspian from Soren🤌🏻🤌🏻
She shrugged. “If I want an heir, then I’ll have a child.” “Without a husband?” Norah asked in surprise. Tahla’s eyebrows drew together. “Besides the means to make a child, what will a man bring that I don’t already have?”
But then she fell for Caspian and it was as sweet as norah and mikeal's relationship progressing .
I love how in this series not everything is right after the first problem is solved. I am happy they didn't have the fake happy ever after to have it taken from them I'd rather they fight for it and after it all to get to it and this is delivering.
I love the relationship progress it was a slow process from Brute to Lord commander to Soren and its just so cute watching them. Despite his gruff exterior Soren actually adores Norah and I love him so much for it. I mean he's usually 💀💀 but here he becomes a slightly softer version with Norah and Adrian
The lines in the corners of his eyes deepened. He really didn’t like explaining things to her, but it didn’t intimidate her anymore. She found it rather amusing now
.But he didn’t like Salara crying. Worry sat heavy in his chest. He had never wanted to be gentle. Kind. Safe. Not until now. Curse this wretched woman for making him feel things. “Are… are you all right?” he asked her
Adrian's moment of glory and the commander smile said everything. He's proud of the little bear and I love how Norah has influenced him so much that he's gone soft. I can't believe how much they've changed. I think she was the first northwoman that he had to face and not kill despite her hurting him. But now 🥹🥹
Sometimes they made stupid decisions that didn't even have to be there in the first place and that was something that pissed me off to no end. Sometimes Norah was stupid when she revealed her heart and stepped in from of a swinging sword. Mikeal was completely right in his decision. But sometimes Soren got too hot-headed with mikeal and Salara mae and I believe if salara mae tried she'd love soren
I loved the dogs. And honestly soren when he gave them to Norah after she was attacked just made me love him more. She felt safe and he let her. He made sure she was. And I just can't believe that they died for something as trivial as councils being narcissistic jerks. I thought James wouldn't stand for it. But he went along with it and was a coward the same as the rest
Cusco sat beside her and nudged her leg for attention. She smiled and dropped a hand to the large dog’s head. It hadn’t been long since the commander had given her the animals, but she’d become quite attached to them. Cusco was always near, always seeking attention from her. Cavaatsa stayed to herself, just out of reach, avoiding touch, but she trailed Norah wherever she went and slept at the foot of the
I still also loved how Nicola made Soren take Adrian under his seal so he could marry sevina that was just the cherry on top. Alexander saw what everyone else saw. Sevina was perfect for him and I loved how he would sell all his wealth for his brother and nephew
And Sevina—Alexander knew instantly she was perfect for his brother. While she was the image of quiet beauty, Adrian responded to her every touch and followed every gentle word. Alexander watched in shock as his brother minded things that Catherine had never been able to get him to do: not setting his sword on the table and using his silverware properly at dinner. And Sevina looked at Adrian with eyes of a pure heart. Alexander found himself grateful his brother had found such a love.
I was so sad for him here. I hoped something would come because of katya but i think I read the part in the next book
Calla and Cohen have my heart. He may b deaf but he's an amazing protector and friend and brother to everyone around him. I especially loved how they all come to respect him that even soren doubts his decision for him not to be in the guard later on but alas. I cannot wait for him to be in there. Calla is fierce and I love her for it. Her spirit is so rare I love that she still has it throughout the book
Cohen put his hand on her arm. While he was deaf, he seemed to see everything. He gave her an encouraging nod. He wasn’t asking her if she was all right—he was telling her. All without words. And her strength returned.
When the council moved to overthrow her and this part wa said Alexander. Vitalia. Serene. Her grandmother. Mercia. Cusco. Cavaatsa. Sephir. They were all lost to her. And now Soren. I was so happy I picked up this series after its completed because I would've hurled the book do far away from me started screaming and crying because all the people and animals I've come to love were dead. I cried for a good few minutes when the dogs were shot down.
Thsi was mostly obsessing over soren but he played a vital role in this.
There was not many meaningful moment between the Mc's anymore as much as it was But this ws amazing ill most probably have to read this again because I'm making my personality for the next 3 months

⭐️: 5 of 5 🌶️: 3 of 5 📚: 556 pages 💬: “Do you not like handsome, powerful men who change the fate of kingdoms for you?”
Read it if you like:
✔️ Fantasy with romance ✔️ Strong FMC ✔️ Warring kingdoms & court politics ✔️ Enemies to lovers ✔️ Morally grey characters ✔️ Villain gets the girl
🖤 This is book #2 of the Trilogy Crows and it tells the story about Norah (FMC), a Queen of two kingdoms: Mercia & Kharav and who on book #1 ended up allying to her greatest enemy (Mikael aka MMC) to maintain her kingdoms safe and avoid war and Mikael not only wants the allegiance to keep his own kingdom safe but he also wants her heart—even though her heart still holds love for another. So now on Book #2, Norah sees herself struggling between letting go of her past and creating a real relationship with Mikael all while the loyalty of old allies crumbles and an unexpected threat is rising.
This book was an amazing journey! So many twists and emotions the whole time, I'm telling you, this is a page turner! Nicola, the author, does an amazing job creating a story so captivating, interesting and rich in details, the world building is just *chef kiss*. The romance is steamy and filled with different emotions and I love the fact that Norah is such a bada$$. I love her relationship with Mikael. And I love when the villain gets the girl. It's a fantasy book with romance and so much character development. It's an amazing book and I can't wait for book #3 and final.
Many thanks to MTMC Tours and the author for sending me a copy of this amazing book!
