After the events of the last book, I knew this one would be heart wrenching and I was right. However, I do think that DS took it easy on us and even as much as I like emotional drama, I was thankful for that.

It was sooo hard reading about Miranda grieving and everything she was going through. Thank goodness for Stella. I really enjoy the element the witches have brought to the story even if it keeps it in line with the Vampire Diaries. Hopefully, more will come out of Miranda and Stella's connection.

There was an interesting/curious change of events for a certain Prime and his Consort and a definite increase in various powers. Not quite sure where things are going but it did make the battle with Hart seem a little Matrix-y. The connections with the other Primes/Consorts are also intriguing and I can't wait to see what will happen. I was a bit taken back with the new female Prime as I was hoping she would have stayed in the south but I do like the possibilities it opens up.

description

One person I have like more and more is Deven. I loved finding out all the things about his past. It was tough seeing him suffer but the new person certainly mixes things up. I got a kick out of the growth of his and Miranda's relationship and his first female kiss in five hundred years!

The epilogue leaves you hanging but it makes me really curious as to how everything will work out with Jeremy and Morningstar.

Favorite quotes:

♦ “This territory is still protected by a Signet. The law stands as before. Put one fang out of line and I will gut you, take your head, and sow your corpse with salt.” (Gotta love Dev!)

♥ ♪ ♫ Till my body is dust and my soul is no more I will love you . . . love you . . . ♫ ♪

♦ This time Deven snorted. “David’s a unicorn? That explains so much.”

♥ “I love you so much, ***. Nothing could keep me away from you, no fate could stop me from finding you. And no god could win my allegiance if you weren’t by my side.”

Although I have to say I really liked this book there is one thing that has been bothering me since the second book and it's just one of those things I have to write about. IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE SERIES DON'T READ FOR POSSIBLE SPOILERS

There are parts in books 2,3 and 4 that I just don't feel David's love for Miranda. I can definitely feel her love for David but there are parts where I just feel that David may have loved Deven more than he does Miranda, and every time David expresses scenes of love toward Miranda I can't help but have David's betrayal in the second book looming over my head. Don't get me wrong I know David loves Miranda, but I tend to wonder if David would is more in love with Deven especially since the author keeps bring up David loss of Deven. I just don't see how David can fully love Miranda when he expresses longing for Deven. What's the point of being soul mates if it means that your partner could be just as in love with someone else as he is in love with you. Isn't just like a normal relationship? I mean Deven gets how his relationship with Jonathan is different, but I'm not sure David does.

Does anyone else see this or am I just delusional?

Of Shadow Born is the fourth novel in the controversial Shadow World series and continues directly on from the the harrowing events of Shadow's Fall. Queen Miranda Grey-Solomon has been plucked from certain death by the witch Stella and it seems that Prime David Solomon is dead. (Or is he?...) Within the Shadow World there is chaos with takeover attempts, an usurped Prime seeking vengeance, the secret human group Morningstar looking to destroy and the brewing emergence of an ancient power. So many twists and turns in the storyline and an equally emotional story in the lives of the Shadow world characters makes for involving reading.

It is a shame that the events of book two turned many readers off this series which is a really good Urban Fantasy series with an involving plot and richly drawn characters. Although the Devon/David relationship fallout seems to have been resolved there is a hint that something equally as unconventional may be in the wind...no that I object to this but it does get in the way of the storyline somewhat, so we will see...

With an unresolved ending and many threads to be yet explored, I look forward to the next instalment.

I love Dianne Sylvan's writing. She does grief and separation incredibly, graphically and heart wrenchingly. I really felt like I was there with the characters that were left behind in the stunning end of the last book, feeling their anguish and the pain of their losses. I'm glad the Shadow's Fall cliffhanger was dealt with long before the ending of the book-I don't think my heart could have handled the suspense. I find that I am amazed by the next level the story-how does she come up with these things??? The characters are evolving, whether to the better or not is a decision for you to make-all I know is that I'm enthused to see what happens next. This book does have a tiny cliffhanger, but not one that will make you scream bloody murder like the last book. It is totally worth calling in sick or taking a vacation day from work in order get lost in the Shadow World for awhile. I rarely give 5 stars, but this one really deserves it.

I really enjoy the world building in this series. Maybe I'm going easy because I read this series when it was fan-fiction for Vampire Diaries, but I've been happy with how she created an original novel series out of that.

In this book I thought the resolutions of the cliffhanger from the 3rd book were a bit rushed in the beginning, but by the halfway point, to me, the book came to an even pace. Of course there was a cliff hanger at the end, but I sort of figured that was going to happen; there was a lot going on in this stage of the story.

I get that what Sylvan did in Book #2 really threw a lot of people for a loop and it completely annexed her from many a 'must read' or 'could read' list, but for me it was an interesting twist, totally not expected at all. She made up for it in Book #3 and I think this book follows through as well. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment.

One of my favorite series, Shadow World, just took a dramatic shift in direction. OF SHADOW BORN, Dianne Sylvan's fourth book in this series, features the well-drawn characters and emotional impact of its predecessors. Sylvan's characters are not static. In each book we see them evolve, often in ways they themselve don't anticipate. OF SHADOW BORN finds most of the lead characters grappling with change and searching for something. Some may even find it. Highly recommended.

5 stars for sure

Where can I start???? You know it's a great read when you have that afterglow, that funk you can't shake, that indecisiveness what to read next, that sadness and longing when the last word was read, and how to justify credits where it's due... Well, it's all of that feelings and then some.

I loved this series. First of all, the emotions drawn from this read were top notched. I started the read with an underlining ache, a yearning what to be written, waterwork pulled to the brim...until Miranda broke down and Deven comforted her as well as himself...omg...I was done for.

Secondly, the storyline was so rich and filled with twists and turns that had me on edge, cheered, panted, engrossed til 4am; every single characters was do well developed, oh how I ached for Deven, how I saw the loves and loyalties others reserved for him and how he couldn't comprehend that he's loved; every side stories added value, yearning, and depthness to the whole. It's rare to enthrall to every aspects but it happened. I didn't want to miss a single word of this read, hated now that it's over and can't wait for the book!

This is really one of my favorite series in the sense that I greatly admire this author. Dianne Sylvan offers a paranormal series that is not bound by the strict formula of alpha men, virginal women, magical monogamous bonding, unerring devotion, lack of repentance. Dianne's characters offer more emotional maturity and her characters display subtle and poignant self-doubt and regret. I also LOVE the fact that Dianne utilizes minimal backstory from one novel to the next. Kudos Dianne for also treating your readers like adults.

This story grabbed me and I was enthralled with David's death, Devon's penance, Jonathan's understanding and Miranda's sorrow. At about the halfway mark I lost some momentum with the Jeremy storyline and now the introduction of Persephone.

I will read on and I appreciate Dianne's originality and honesty.

I just found this book a little predictable, it might just be that I've read too many similar books but I've had enough of main characters who are more powerful than everyone else- so powerful that they don't have to follow the 'rules' of the magic in their world and when something bad happens the rules get rewritten in their favour.

Of Shadow Born picks up right after Shadow’s Fall. Towards the end of Shadow’s Fall, we learned the true duplicity of Jeremy Hayes and the reasons behind his deception. We are left reeling at the devastation and the potential consequences of his devious actions.

The beginning Of Shadow Born show us those consequences. Miranda did not die as we all assumed when Hayes destroyed her bond with David and secreted her away to use in the Awakening. She is found by Stella and awakens injured, confused, and steeped in grief over the loss of David. As she struggles to take back the reins of running the South without her Prime and her love, Prime Deven and his consort, Jonathan, remains firmly at her side. The vampire world waits with breathless anticipation for her to fall to insanity as that is the usual outcome when a Prime loses their other half however, Miranda continues to shock this world as she not only rises to the occasion but begins to take matters into her own hands. As other Primes and human enemies cast an envious eye towards her throne, Miranda turns her eyes towards the past and to those who took away her love.

If Shadow’s Fall was the epic storm that changed the game, Of Shadow Born is the calm afterwards. Though jam packed with action and suspense, Sylvan takes it easy on us in this installment. Though we aren’t promised all is well in the Haven, we are granted some reassurance that it will all work out. Miranda learns that the coming war is not without allies. Questions are answered and a long standing story arc is concluded while Sylvan lays the framework for a new one. A heavily character driven installment, we share an intimate connection with Miranda in here. Her pain, sorrow, and triumphs are also ours. Experiencing her grief tugs at your heartstrings as you see her recount her love for David in each memory. It has been a thrilling ride as we have watched her grow from a solitary broken figure to having found a home, family, and love. Her personality shines through more and more with each book. She has grown tremendously throughout the series and this installment highlights that growth. She is the Prime’s Queen. The world building stays fresh and exciting with constant evolution as Sylvan introduces mythology and legend to create a new storyline.

Dianne Sylvan lights up your emotional grid in here as we see the ramifications of past decisions. Devon and Jeremy, especially. Dynamic characters and a well crafted world demand your complete surrender. These complex people will make you care regardless of their intentions. It’s the sign of a gifted writer who can force you to live through a varied array of emotions when reading their books. In reading this installment, I have found myself shaking with anger, crying in sorrow, and laughing with sheer joy. There were times I wanted to skip through scenes at warp speed to see what would happen and other times I wanted to stop because I didn’t think I could bear anymore.

Though this series is touted as a Urban Fantasy, I feel it walks the line between a UF and a PNR due to it’s strong balance between the storyline and the romance. The plot and romance blend so effortlessly you’re often not sure where one starts and the other ends. While the plot is engaging and action packed, it takes second place to our main two protagonists-David and Miranda Solomon.

David and Miranda have run a harsh relationship gauntlet from the beginning. Love, death, betrayal, and forgiveness have all played equal parts as these two struggles to come together beyond the bond that tied them together. What has always appealed to me about this particular couple is the reality of their relationship amidst the fantasy of the story. Sylvan doesn’t make their love perfect, especially for Miranda. Being in love with a man over 100 years old isn’t easy as she learns the hard way. However, Sylvain gives them the tools to repair any and all damage if they are willing to try.

The secondary cast continues to grown in leaps and bounds, further elevating the arc and our protagonists. Devon and Jonathan features predominantly in this story and more clues are given that further divulge into Devon’s history. Stella and her “witchy ways” also play a major role and I look forward to seeing more of her inclusion into the arc. The story is filled with intrigue, murder, and mayhem as Ms. Sylvan cleans up this storyline arc and starts a new one. Old and new characters join the fray and soon the path Sylvan is going down begins to show itself. Like a puzzle with missing pieces, this installment is a major piece we needed. As we lay this piece in place, a shining moment of clarity is revealed.

Of Shadow Born is a well executed followup to Shadow’s Fall and delightful addition to Ms. Sylvan’s wonderful Shadow World. I look forward to the fifth installment-title and release date to be announced.

I've gotten past my hang ups about this series and really enjoyed this novel. The introduction of Olivia's character was a good addition to the main four characters. I wish we had some more time with Jacob and Cora, since they are becoming more important. What we got of the Council gathering was not nearly enough time. I love Stella as a main character, and I hope she has a bigger role to play in the series as well. Honestly, a lot went on in this book, and events will either make the series stronger, or prove that the story jumped the shark into over the top. I'm definitely willing to read the next one and see where all the characters go from here.

A double miracle has occurred in the Southern Haven. Bothe the Queen and then the prime have been found and returned. But while Miranda is okay, David has changed and still is changing and they’re not sure what into. To make it worse, they have lost their signet link.

Amazing how Stella, the one person they need to figure all this out, just ‘happens’ to show up. Though she is a cool character and I love how progresses in the story.

Footnote: 1) Love how Olivia channels ‘Mission Impossible’ in their break-in.

Fave scenes: Star-two arriving home, Stella eating David’s Chunky Monkey, Miranda & the crow and ‘Just unlock the damn door’.

MAGNIFICENT!!!!

I seldom stumble upon such great epic reads. I think the last was the Irin chronicles or Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental series. These are the novels that make you run the gamut of every emotion. You want to savor it but you just have to keep reading. Very masterfully written. I would love to read series like these everyday if I could find them. Hope this author writes many more and they are of great caliber as this one. Oh to ever experience even a tenth of the connection these characters have. I guess it’s good to dream, lol.

The unspeakable has happened. At the end of Shadow's Fall, Jeremy broke David's signet, killing him and separating Miranda from her soulmate. Signet bearers are not meant out live each other and the grief nearly kills Miranda. Were it not for the intervention of Stella, a witch and long time fan of her music, Miranda might well have died. Deven and Johnathon show up to help Miranda run Haven and keep her sanity but all feel the grief and loss of David. Fortunately for them all, David isn't actually dead, he has become something else - Thirdborn. It seems Persephone has plans for her children and the pieces are being shifted into place. It's not a moment to soon because the human group Morningstar has its own set of plans for the vampire world which are guaranteed to be a game changer.

Miranda's grief was really well written and her pain was at times difficult to read. Deven did show up to help her mourn David's loss but I felt that Miranda's pain far over shadowed his. I know that one could argue that Miranda and David were soulmates and that Deven's soulmate is Johnathon; however, Sylvan has made a repeated point of reminding us just how much Deven and David love each other and therefore I really felt like Deven's pain shouldn't have been so overshadowed.

It's a measure of exactly how much that Miranda has grown as a character that she determined to rule her area as the Queen that she is even without David at her side. I love that she took the time to grieve but then got right back on her feet because that's what one does - one finds a way to live with the pain. It was obvious from the ending of Shadow's Fall that we would see David again. When David and Miranda do find each other again, David has greatly changed and the bond between them still hasn't returned. Miranda must choose if regaining her soul bond with David is worth taking a leap into the unknown and becoming an uber vampire. I love that Of Shadow Born is filled with women having the opportunity to choose for themselves what their fate will be. David doesn't pressure Miranda and gives her all the time she needs to make her decision. Similarly, when Stella meets the Goddess Persephone, she gets to choose whether or not she will risk herself to get the information that Miranda and David both need.

The addition of the witches to this story has not only been fun, it has broadened Sylvan's supernatural world. I very much like that Stella's interest in Miranda isn't about Miranda's vampire nature but her talent as an artist. That being said, given how long Stella has known Miranda, her willingness to sacrifice has me wondering if this storyline is going to turn into a case of unrequited love between the two women - something I could definitely do without. I highly suspect that the witches will have a larger role to play as the story goes on, particularly when it comes to the vampires learning about their own lore. Stella also looks like she will be a replacement for Kat and Faith but it's a bit early to say at this point.

I am also interested to know where the story with Persephone the vampire Goddess and MorningStar the human group determined to eliminate the vampires are going.Persephone is the perfect Goddess in this world as she is the queen of the underworld. I wonder how much more of her we will see as the story progresses.

As with many books in this series, when it comes to GLBT people, Sylvan absolutely has a problem. When David first returns, he has trouble remembering and so Miranda describes Deven as, "Our friend. Little guy, lots of leather, the world's oldest bitch queen."(pg 109) It's one thing for a gay man to self identify as a "queen" and another for a straight woman to label him that way. Miranda and Deven may have burried the hatchet so to speak but it still very much comes off as pejorative. When Stella sees Deven for the first time she calls him cute. Deven may be short in stature but he is one of the oldest vampires in existence and the power coming off of him is immense. If that were not enough, we learn that Deven is at least part elf. That's right, Sylvan made a gay man a fairy. Thanks for that.

Sylvan has made it clear that Deven is gay and yet in this novel, we have him expressing love for Miranda.
"Miranda," he said, a sort of gentle firmness in the word that brooked no disagreement, "I thought by now you would understand - things aren't like they were three years ago. If I never expected to still love him, after all those years, well, let's just say I was utterly blindsided by you."
"By me?"
"Yes...I would do anything for you. Anything. Ask for the stars and I'll do what I can." (pg 162)
Here's the the thing, platonic love between Miranda and Deven I suppose I could wrap my mind around but Sylvan certainly stretches the limit on this point.

*Beware of Spoilers*

Miranda feels she has lost everything now that her Second, Faith, and more importantly her husband and Prime, David, are both dead. With her and David’s mythical bond it was never supposed to work this way. If one dies so does the other. So why is she still here? And, how will she ever get over her insurmountable grief? She better figure it out fast because their enemies aren’t waiting for the mourning period to pass. Miranda is still the Vampire Queen of the South, a title that she must fight to keep or the deaths of her loved ones will have been in vain.

But things are not as they seem and when David shows up three weeks after his demise, he is not the same either. Miranda will have to make a choice, one that will affect everything, most importantly her relationship with David. Can she make changes without knowing what they mean to get back the bond she longs for? Or will she choose to stay the same and possibly lose a very important part of her marriage?

I first want to put this out there. I have NOT read the three previous installments of this series. Reading the synopses to those books were the only preparation I had for reading Of Shadow Born. But I’m glad to say that those blurbs were pretty descriptive and let me know exactly what happened prior to this book. Granted, it didn’t tell me every detail, but gave me the main highlights anyway. And, after a chapter or so, of figuring out some of the secondary characters roles, I was able to determine exactly what was happening and I really enjoyed it.

Miranda’s grief was heart wrenching. I hadn’t even read the previous books so I didn’t know the extent of her and David’s love and even I was on the verge of tearing up. A true sign of a great author! I also loved how caring and nurturing Deven was with her during that time. I don’t think she could have come as far as she did without him in her corner.

I found the storyline of David coming back as Thirdborn to be really interesting. You didn’t know if it was a good or bad thing and you still really don’t know by the end of the book, but we can definitely hope it will be good!

“David’s a unicorn? That explains so much.”

And, speaking of David’s transition, what about the choice that Miranda had to make? I can’t even imagine the possibility of changing into the unknown just to keep the bond between your spouse and yourself. Of course, there really was no choice and love definitely wins out. I’m sure the two of them can get through anything as long as they are together. And, they got some really cool new abilities at least!

I really enjoyed this book and I’m anxiously awaiting the next installment when I can only assume the war between the vampires and Morningstar will really begin!

Here are a few more fun quotes I enjoyed:)

“Even when you’re not wearing a geeky T-shirt, you’re carrying your geekdom with you wherever you go.”

“it was very important business. Negotiations for a cease-fire between warring parties.”

David rolled his eyes. “You could just say makeup sex.”

I'm going to attempt to get through this review without too many spoilers. First I must say that I've really come to like our heroine, Miranda. For a time I thought she was pretty weak for accepting David back after his huge indiscretion with Deven. But I'm starting to view her differently. This woman has balls of steel! I really like that Ms.Sylvan has changed direction a bit and made her a leader capable of handling herself in the worst situations. She's actually developing several strong female characters in this book. We have Olivia, the new and first female Prime. Stella, the young witch that helps Miranda and David. Lastly, I'm actually even like Deven more now too, which I didn't think was possible. His character has grown a little bit, yet he's still doing a lot of acting now and thinking later. But as usual, he's trying to save everyone in his own misguided way.

If you've been reading the series, you'll know, at the end of the last book, there was a major cliff hanger. And I mean MAJOR. Based on the synopsis, we already know that David isn't dead after all....or did he die?! You'll have to read to find out, because let me just say, this twist in the story is very interesting! In the beginning of this book, David meets Olivia who helps him when he is found outside her door. I'm sure it's no coincidence that he ended up there.

The world building is very well done. Gods, Goddesses, Elves, Vampires and Humans! This seems to be the central theme of this installment. There is this theory that the Elves, Vamps and Humans all coexisted but eventually a Human group called Morningstar started to take all non-humans, starting with the Elves and now trying to finish off the Vampires. There are new developments regarding Deven and the Elves, which I won't say, but it's completely not unexpected.

There is also history explained as to how the Gods & Goddesses played into the Vampire history. Which leads to a more detailed explanation of Gen 1, 2 and 3 Vampires. We already know that all the Vampires that exist now are 2nd Gen Vampires, David suddenly shows up with a fuzzy memory, extra abilities that he didn't have before as well as seemingly being more dangerous in general. It's pretty interesting how the chain of events unfolds.

In addition to the conflict going on between Prime Hart and everyone, we find out more about Jeremy and who he really was/is and what his purpose is. Everything seemed to click into place for me when Olivia's tie to Jeremy is revealed. It's all so scandalous!

I'm looking forward to the next book. Too bad there's no release date yet! I anticipate more fighting, more Elves, more 3rd Gen Vamps, more Witches and of course, even more relationship drama!

I think this is a fun and easy read. If you haven't hear of this series, do check it out! If you've been reading the series but haven't checked this book out yet, please do, I think you'll be pleased with it.

Note: While spoiler-free for the current title, this review does include reference key events in previous books.

When I started reading this series back in 2010 my first impression was that it was rather clichéd. We had a lonely immortal vampire and a “gifted” mortal who thought she was going insane because of her gift.

What did pique my interest was the musical aspect of the book. Miranda has the ability to emotionally manipulate her audience when she performs. Also as an emotional empath she constantly finds herself overwhelmed by the emotional state and darker feelings of those around her. In the beginning the only way she is able to stay sane is through her performances where she is able to filter out some of the feelings she is carrying around.

It is through these performances that she comes to the attention of David, the aforementioned lonely vampire. David, as the current ruler of the supernatural races in the Southern United States, feels it is his responsibility to assist Miranda before she follows the tragic path of her mother. He also finds himself connecting to her on level he hasn’t felt in a long time. Needless to say it’s a foregone conclusion that after various rigmarole Miranda becomes a vampire and David’s Queen.

Two books later, after the cliffhanger ending of Shadow’s Fall, we reenter the shadow world with Of Shadow Born. The first half of Of Shadow Born finds each of the main characters redefining who they are, to themselves and to the world around them.

The character development scripted across the pages is the true strength of this series. The story and plot can sometimes seem trope and predictable, but it is the characters which drag you deeper into the book. Instead of adding a surplus of periphery characters, Sylvan instead flushes out each of her characters with depth, emotion, motives and detail. One of my favorite moments was the shout out to Doctor Who to show David’s geekiness. It’s these details, which keep me reading when I would otherwise be skimming.

A warning to those who need all the characters to have their happily-ever-after: Sylvan doesn’t hesitate to kill off any character—no matter how attached the reader is. I am still mourning Miranda’s weapons mentor from the first book. I am currently crossing my fingers that a particular Prime of the West doesn’t find himself on the execution block as I might just become a sobbing mess.

I can’t say that I loved this book as there were moments that I found myself rushing through and then flipping back to see what just happened. However, I will definitely be picking up the next in the series. I found that as Sylvan matures as a writer, the books get stronger and the characters even more engaging.

“You died . . . I felt you die . . . the others saw you . . . you went to dust . . . there was nothing left but a shadow.” Softly, he smiled. “And of shadow I was reborn.”

Shadow's Fall ended on one hell of a cliffhanger and this series is getting more interesting by the book. The first half of the book was pretty heartbreaking because Miranda is dealing with the fallout from the previous book. David is presumed dead and she is still alive which isn't right, because if a Prime falls, the queen does soon after. But some wicked ass things go down in OF SHADOW BORN and I'm glad to be there for the ride!

Miranda struggles to stand on her own and lead the Haven without David for now, but she is still heartbroken and it is hard without David and she finds a surprising friendship in Devon, they mourn together and bond over David. I really enjoyed Devon and Miranda coming together. I loved them getting along and forming a friendship. But David is not gone for long, thank god. I mean, seriously, the last line of Shadow's Fall gave us hope, so of course I knew he'd be back!

David comes back weird, not remembering what happened, I mean, he's back but stronger than ever and I'm not going to go too much into the why's and how's, but it makes me wonder was it worth him coming back. Will everything be okay. Miranda and David may be back together, but a war may be coming that they have to become a part of.

“You know what I do to people who question me.” Jonathan smiled up at him hopefully. “Shag them blind?” “Damn it, my torture methods are supposed to be a secret. Who told you?” The Consort chuckled. “I’m familiar with your work, my Lord.”

I must mention more of Devon and Johnathon. I loved them as always! Devon has been going through a lot and I mourn for him. I really hope that he will get want he needs most and I hope Johnathon can help him through it. There were many different POV's in OF SHADOW BORN and sometimes it got to be too overwhelming, so it was a little too much for me.

I enjoyed OF SHADOW BORN a lot. There is a cliffhanger at the end, but not as bad as the cliffhanger in Shadow's Fall. I am loving this series with every new book and I really look forward to see what transpires next in the Shadow World Series.

First off - my reviews never give any synopsis of the storyline. I figure that enough reviews have that feature that I need not bother. I also do not really recommend trying to read this book without having read the first three. I think you will miss a lot of the backstory which makes the characters so much more likable.

Second off - my Kindle broke on a Saturday (I immediately ordered a new one), but I voluntarily read 95% of this book on my iphone. Let me tell you, that's no small feat considering the iphone is NOT the largest screen in the world and I felt like I was constantly flipping pages. But enough of the whining.

I started this book on Friday night- I actually cried myself to sleep reading the book. I admit that I'm a bit of a marshmallow at times, but it's not often that I begin a book crying. But David was always a character that I think I liked - or perhaps it was the fact that I like Miranda. I'm not sure which at this point. But dang, I was still sad from the ending of the last book and the beginning of this one.

I will say that I might have actually have fallen for Deven at this point- took til book 3 for him to warm on me. But I feel for the tortured soul. I also still like his Consort- amazingly caring and warm man who has his own inner strength (seriously, he puts up with Deven!). I look forward to learning more about them both.

I could ramble on and on about the individual characters, but I won't. I will say that I am really excited about the prospects of where this world is going. I cannot wait to get answers! And I look forward to reading more about Deven. I still think I'd like the books to focus on Miranda and David, but I want to see the supporting characters more and more.

I highly recommend not only this book, but the series.

After the end of Shadow’s Fall, I was anxiously awaiting the release of this book. I needed to know how Dianne Sylvan was going to fix what she had done in Shadow’s Fall and how she was possibly going to explain the way it ended. I wasn’t disappointed with the way things played out either. This series has always been a solid 4 star series for me and it continues to be so. Although sometimes Miranda is annoying, I love David and their relationship. I think Miranda has a lot of potential and mostly comes off as a kick ass heroine, but then sometimes I think she needs to be smacked around.

My favorite character in this series though is Deven. He is funny, yet dark, open, yet a mystery. He loves fiercely and will do anything to protect those he loves. He is definitely the most complex, fleshed out character in the series. Perhaps it’s because he has the most history, or maybe Dianne loves him just as much as I do so she spends more time developing him, I don’t know. But I wish that we could have that same kind of depth with the rest of the characters.

I think Olivia will be a great addition to the series, although I still mourn the loss of Faith. I am interested in the world that Dianne has built for this series and the mythology that she has created for the vampires. I can’t wait to see what the Morningstar people are up to and how David, Miranda and Deven (with Jonathan of course) will fight them. Although I haven’t seen any news about a book five yet, there is no way this series is over and I hope we don’t have to wait too long to get the next chapter.

I gave 3.5 stars

I'm kinda on the fence about this one. I liked it, but there were a few weird parts. It was no stretch to guess that David does not stay dead and that Miranda doesn't die with him. I went into OF SHADOW BORN wondering how long it was going to take to finally show that David was alive and I'm glad to say that it wasn't super long.

I really do love Miranda and David as a couple. A few books ago David really messed up and I honesty wanted to throw up during that time as I was reading but they have grown a lot since then and they have a great relationship with each other as well as Deven and Jonathan . I loved the addition of Stella to the series, she is loyal and sweet and is willing to help in any way that someone lets her. I also thought that the addition of Olivia was interesting and feel that she will continue to be a great ally in the events ahead. The pacing in OF SHADOW BORN was fine but there were a few parts that got a tad boring in the story and could have done without. We definitely need more information on the Goddess storyline and once we get that I think seems will be more clear. Over all Book 4 had nice growth and continuation of the story.

I'm not totally sure where Dianne is bringing everyone but I wont stop reading now. Book 6 is not yet scheduled but I hope we wont have to wait long. I don't think any fan of the series will be disappointed with OF SHADOW BORN.

Miranda Grey Solomon has had her world ripped out from under her with the disappearance and sundering of her link with her Prime and husband, David Solomon, as well as the death of others from her territory. She was able to come back to reality only with the help of two witches, Stella and Lark. Now there are threats coming from every side – humans and other members of the Shadow World. Can Miranda find her way without David and defend her vulnerable territory?

Note: You will enjoy ‘Of Shadow Born’ more if you have already read the first three books in this series.

There is only so much I can say in my review because I don’t want to give away anything. ‘Of Shadow Born’ resolves the huge cliff-hanger at the end of ‘Shadow’s Fall’ and introduces a new problem for the Southern Territory. There is the return of a secret society, Order of the Morningstar, Goddesses, and more in depth information about the origin of vampires. There are also reconciliations, betrayals, and surprises for everyone. ‘Of Shadow Born’ is a very busy and complicated novel, but intriguing and captivating. I am looking forward to seeing what is in store next for the Shadow World.

This book seems to be quite the game changer. At the end of the last book it seemed like both Miranda and David were dead, which really made a person wonder how the series could go on.

I was glad when not very far in we learned that Miranda made it. Things weren't good for her and she was saved by a very unexpected person, a witch named Stella. I loved Stella, loved how she was a fan of Miranda as a musician, not the vampire. I really liked the friendship that developed between the two women. Miranda needed the extra support trying to run the Haven in the aftermath of David's death. It was hard to see her cope, but I did love how Devin and Jonathan were there for her.

I was stunned when about 1/4 of the way the book David was back from death. Things there ended up being complicated and were weird between him and Miranda. It was only when they discovered why David came back could they do anything about all the odd things.

It seems like now David is becoming a new vampire, one with a mission, one with a circle of people that are connected to him. It will be interesting to see where things go from here.
