She's his worst enemy...and his greatest weakness Hardened by his past, Rafaelo Guerra has only one objective—revenge against the brother who stole everything from him. And to put his plans in motion, he needs to partner up with a dangerous crime lord. But he never expected to see her again. Noelle DeVille. His new associate's little sister, and the bane of his existence. The only person in the world he hates more than his brother. It doesn't matter that she's the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, or that she tempts him beyond belief. He knows that her innocence is just a mask. But how is he supposed to resist her when he must marry her to ally their families?
*** Silenced and misunderstood, Noelle feels trapped by her overprotective family. She survived an abusive marriage that left her with deep scars, both mental and physical. But when Rafaelo Guerra storms into her life, she doesn't know if she can survive him. He accuses her of heinous crimes she has no memory of, and he vows he will make her suffer. Then why does her heart race whenever he is near? Why is her soul filled with longing for a man who abhors the sight of her? Suddenly, she's trapped in an arranged marriage with her worst enemy. And it's not her life she fears for anymore, it's her already damaged heart...
The Taste of Revenge is an enemies to lovers, arranged marriage steamy dark romance. It is the first book in the War of Sins series and ends on a cliffhanger. Please read the triggers carefully before proceeding. This is a very dark romance. It was previously published as part of War, Unfinished.
so basically, he taunts her while she’s blindfolded and calls out for guys number one, two, and three to come in and assault her. it’s all just groping and taunting though, because mmc is kind enough to give her the choice : rape or crawl and beg. then, we learn that there was never anyone but the two of them in the room. meaning it was him doing all that, which is supposed to make it better but actually makes it worse. he tells her “only i can hurt you.”
how romantic.
this isn’t even about it being “too dark.” there’s dark romance, very dark romance, and then there’s flat out sexual assault. i’ve come to realize with romance authors that “non-con” and “dubcon” are terms used to say “we’re gonna include sexual assault, it’s probably gonna be the mmc against the fmc but we won’t call it what it is : assault and rape”
of course it’s fine because she’s been through worse and this is the best she thinks she’ll ever get, and in book 2 he’ll probably be a total sweetheart to her and people will romanticize the hell out of him.
the book was fine before this scene, and could’ve been fine without it. i couldn’t take it seriously after this scene. i almost would’ve rather him hold a knife to her throat and almost kill her.
not going to put up a spoiler warning because people should know what they’re really getting into.
wtf. ik this is dark but why would he basically have people rape her while she’s having a panic attack and say the only thing she can do to save herself is crawl and submit to him. dnf after that scene because what the actual fuck. never read this.

i am utterly speechless i mean i knew it was gonna be fucked up but DAMNNN🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
usually i would list the spoilers but this time i would highly recommend going in blind, HOWEVER…. DO READ THE TWs
though the main couple is raf and noelle, we see glimpses of the side couple michele (who’s the villain in the story) and zia as well whose story is an entire different league of fucked up but knowing VC there’s probably gonna be a lottt of grovelling later on😩😭😭
talking about grovels: minor spoiler from second book RAF GROVELS LIKE SOMETHING ELSEEE i mean with the kind of shit he put noelle through it was justified but lorddd was it satisfying✨✨
tropes you can look forward to: (for raf and noelle) JP hero🤌🏼✨ “i hate her but can’t stop thing about her”🦋🦋 ml wants revenge….🗡️🗡️ fml with amnesia🫠 arranged/forced marriage💍 hero goes from hating/wanting the fml dead🚩🚩 to worshipping the ground she walks on🤍🤍 ml treats fml badly only to later on realise he was wrong, put himself through hell and GROVELS✨✨ (the grovelling part is detailed throughout the second book)
i’ve seen some ppl leave bad reviews as if the author didn’t already list the TWs for the book🙄🙄 if you feel uncomfortable with something listed in the TWs drop the book!!! don’t act like an idiot and read it and cry abt it later🫠
SAFETY (minor spoilers for the series)
some false owd Raf: virgin (has been r*ped by a man in the past) Noelle: has only ever sex with her ex husband who we later on get to know had multiple times forced himself on her Michele: virgin (been r*ped as a child by) Zia: virgin
This has been such a mindf*ck and I have been contemplating how I want to rate this. I think this was some kind of a trauma p*rn by the author because things went just a tad too far while not really contributing anything to the main animosity and the progression of the story. I hate it when authors write multiple books in series solely for the fact that they can, using cliffhangers as clickbait because there is no solid reason as to why this needs to be a 3-4 part series.
A lot of the book was about going around in circles with vague mentions of animosity between the leads and the guy and his brother while telling us the bare minimum of the hows and the whys. I think as someone with extreme anxiety, this author maybe isn’t for me but I will read the next one solely to know what happens now but I am doing it very reluctantly. Also why the fuck was the guy’s brother grooming a barely legal high school girl, please do not tell me she ends up being the love interest because it’s time to call 911.
ALSO YOU ARE TELLING ME THAT CISCO AND YUYU ARE GETTING THEIR OWN BOOK? Gurl fuck those two , i hope they d!e
Oh my god! This is a true enemies to lovers where the MMC truly hates the MFC. Like, he wants to utterly destroy her and make her life hell.
We have two characters whose lives have been absolutely brutal and - yes, please take the trigger warning seriously. The pain and the pure brutality that Noelle and Rafaelo have gone through - it’s dark.
This is a story about Noelle who’s trying to find her voice and her way through life after becoming a widow and yet being controlled by her brother, who wants to “fix” her and remarry her off again. Everyone thinks she’s crazy. Acting out. Irrational. A liar. Her late husband was a bad bad man.
This is also a story about Rafaelo who’s becoming sober from a highly addicting drug that keeps you tied to your captor, your tormentor, your owner… Once a slave. Never again. He was sold by his own brother and now he’s seeking revenge on all those that hurt him.
He’s strong now. And he’s gaining access to Noelle’s family to find his brother. A common enemy. As the layers shed in this story, they know eachother from the same dark past. And his hate to hate story is addicting to read.
This ain’t a romance. Yet. This is a story with incredible world building and dark story with layers and layers that slowly reveal themselves.
We get multiple POVs. And it’s an unfinished story so no HEA yet!
Okay I decided to keep going after knowing that the OW is fake. I hate Raf right now so he better grovel so hard in book 2.
February 20 review:
Guys…😭😭
I really tried.
When we had the opening scene with him imagining sex with another woman, I almost had to Dnf. I kept reading but it felt like it kept getting worse. I even looked into book two to check on mentions of her name again and my god. I can’t stomach it.
He’s a virgin (r@ped by a man before) but he has loved another woman before the heroine. He is awful towards the heroine. In book 2, he’s having sex with the heroine and they are saying they love each other when he calls her HIS DEAD LOVERS NAME?! Veronica what😭 I thought you would write about virgin guys and stories with no OW drama.
I don’t think I can continue because I’m genuinely nauseous at how his dead lovers name keeps getting brought up. I’m too sensitive for this.

** arc copy received for an honest review ** - COMING MAY 20TH
Please, if you are interested in reading, check the TW'S as I also said down there, she puts them at the beginning.
I love the forced marriage trope, and ALL the hate plus misunderstandings coming with it? *chefs kiss*, really, and the way V's male characters are all obsessed with their girls is something to look forward to, so when I first heard of Rafe on Morally books, I was curious because she never misses putting some characters in some situations, they are all there for a bigger reason and that's why I read everything she writes and more to come, of course. Let's talk about Noelle and Raf: They are such complex characters, just like all of her characters, they have so many moments that will make you consider which side you're on, and make you notice every small things from their POVs because each thing matter and is there for some reason, when you read them all, it's like a puzzle fitting into places, NOTHING is ever the way it seems and she keeps you guessing and reading it like your life is hanging and depending on it, the way Noelle is like THREE/FOUR girls in one, or how you can hate Raf now and one second later root for him with all you have, and MICHELE that you spend hating since Marcello's book and then you get his twisted point of view, I have never read a character more flawed and evil than him, I love authors who make me feel like this because it's hard to find stories like this one who will make you invested nowadays that people are writing just to make money. Veronica cares for her characters and it's beautiful. Now MICHELE GUERRA is my best villain-hero ever, can't wait for his books and to spend more time on his twisted mind, I HATED him, but also felt pity and empathy then back to hating him again, many feelings, indeed.
Also how the brothers' war is building is keeping me going and I can't wait to see how it will turn out. Who will win? Will both lose? Can they ever forgive each other? Are any of the things they did to each other things that should be forgiven? I just know I will have my heart in pieces in the process.
I have been reading Veronica's books since the first Morally editions and the way she makes her books even more incredible after the first time you read them. They have some heavy stuff, so if you have triggers, I suggest you read the TWs, because she cares enough to put them in there.I have read this one since she first published it when it was a 800+ pages book, I love how she was able to split her books because she cares for her readers and for her books enough to give us stunning editions every time, she is always improving.
The disclaimer at the beginning of the book should have warned me about Noelle being annoying AF. I get the girl is dealing with issues from her past of being abused (and probably drugged), but holy moly - I wanted to shake her! She's acting out like a little child and then wondering why her brother is her guardian. Don't get me started on her family. She didn't tell them about the abuse she suffered when they sold her, even though that would help them understand what she's going through and not just label her as crazy. She would have guilt tripped them so effing hard but there's nothing about that. Raf's initial reaction to her wounds was downright rude, but later, when he sees all she went through, he finally has the reaction I wanted. While the book dragged for about 90% of it, it did finally pick up only to be left as a cliffhanger. I need to see Raf groveling big time in the next book. I also need him to find out her family sold her to the life of abuse and have him take some kind of action about it.
➖ Noelle's family can piss off for all I care. Every last one of them, especially her oldest brother. ➖ I have no idea how Raf is going to redeem himself or if that would even be convincing. ➖ How can she still be attracted to him despite all his cruelty, misplaced anger, and physical manhandling? Is she that desperate to feel wanted? ➖ That scene where he made her believe five men were going to assault her? Freaking jail. He did a lot of horrible things to her, but this was the worst, imo. I can only imagine her fear and panic as she thinks men are molesting her one at a time and she can't do anything about it because she was blindfolded and tied. Then what did he do afterwards? He forced her to crawl and submit to him. It was goddamn too much to handle, so much that it made my stomach turn. If that's not cruel, I'm not sure what is. ➖ Some would probably say he did all those things because he's angry. Maybe even excuse him or understand where he was coming from but I don't think I have it in me to see past his reasoning and to forgive him for all the pain he caused her. He was just another bully in her life. ➖ My heart was heavy all throughout reading this. I think my mood only shifted between sad and angry—sad for Noelle and angry at Raf. ➖ He and his brother were not so different after all. I've only seen glimpses of Michele's thinking, and those were more than enough to make me feel disgusted by him. ➖ I swear the men in this series are irredeemable, and I feel like despite their cruelty, their women would eventually give in to them without so much as a fight. ➖ But I promised to finish this series, so that's what I'll do.
The Taste of Revenge is the first book in the War of Sins series by Veronica Lancet. We already know Raf thanks to another series, his book reveals a different side of him. This is a dark book from enemies to lovers , where there is good dark and good chemistry . While reading I felt the chemistry between the characters, Noelle for me is a character you want to look up to - her courage is inspiring. Noelle and Rafaelo are united by the events of the past, it was interesting to see how their hatred for each other develops and how each is confident in their version of events . Veronica Lancet is the kind of author everyone should read - she can certainly give a head start on Darke's writing. I'm looking forward to the second part and am insanely grateful to the author for the opportunity to read Arc. The book is worthy of a 10/10
This is a true enemies to lovers, where the MMC truly hates the FMC. He does and says some truly unforgivable things, and I expect serious grovelling as the series continues. The behaviour from both characters frustrated me, though I understand they’re dealing with traumas in their own way, sometimes their actions were baffling.
Also, personal peeve as someone with endometriosis, the cause isn’t known so a doctor wouldn’t ever say “this likely caused endo”, it would already be there and wouldn’t be triggered by a surgery or anything like that.
She did it again 😭💥💥💥💥 I can't describe in words how much I fell in love all over again with this book. I read about these characters when the book was still voluminous but here I saw some changes but all to the good.
I can say with confidence that Lancet is my queen of dark romance. I am always amazed at her writing style as she is so sweet in person but her characters are reincarnations of another reality.
About the book: I don't want to say many spoilers that's why you should read this book yourself🥰🥰
Rafaelo is my new morally gray boyfriend he is a real psycho. His energy is so destructive I couldn't stop reading. His charisma though he was an asshole at times. But as they say every bad man has his own story.
Noelle heroine is fire 🔥 She is so strong, she has been through so much but still my strong girl.
There's so much chemistry in this couple, you can get burned.
The Taste of Revenge promising a very dark and disturbing plot. I signed up. And yes Miss Lancet delivers.
However it is lacking plot and characters development. It seems to me the in the whole book, the characters busy hating and seducing each other that the tender emotional is forgetten.
this is the second novel by VL that I'm reading and I think I have an ick with her unnecessary long novels... as I'm writing this I have Morally Corrupt on hold and I'm having the same problem, so long and full of pointless info, so many characters here and there, it's wearying and quite honestly even confusing.. I really wanted to finish that one first (the whole serie tbh) since I get both of them are set in the same universe and there's a few characters here and there that make an appearance through the plot.
On with this book, I felt it was an HUGE premises to the actual story (the series was edited and republished) that will take place in the second one, The Foiled Plan.
Raf and Noelle act like true enemies and despise each other, more Raf tbh, since he's the only one that apparently has a "valid" reason to hate Noelle's guts even so I do not condone how he acted towards her few times.. she just seems to react at his behavior.
Yes, there were a few childish moment within the plot that made me say "wtf" but I'll keep reading 🤞
Before you read this book, I would appreciate you reading the trigger warnings. This book is very DARK.
⭐- 4.5/5 🌶️- 2/5
This book was an enemy to lovers of slow-burn romance. Both Raf and Noelle had a traumatic past and their relationship is very complex. Their relationship is built on utter loathing yet they are not immune to the growing attraction between them. We might have known about Raf and Michele's rivalry since MORALLY BLASPHEMOUS. And if you have hated Michele before, then the feeling towards him might get a little complex now...and we see another side of him in this book. I am looking forward to reading his POV...
This war between the brothers is a reckoning and we must be eager to know:- Who will win? Will they forgive and move on? Or will they end up destroying each other? We will have to wait to know that 👀.
Please read the TWs. Not recommended for faint-hearted ones.
So, if you’ve read any of my reviews before you might know im a HUGE Veronica Lancet fan! Her books are amazing, and this one was no exception!
The Taste of Revenge is about brothers Rafaelo and Michele from the previously published Art De La Guerra series. It has now been condensed, with shorter books. If my memory is correct, I believe everything is the same from the previously two published books War, Unfinished and War, Unjust. This book follows along with War, Unfinished.
We get to meet Rafaelo and Michele and Noelle, and Michele’s h. I am personally partial to Michele! I’m not sure why or how considering he’s such a…..how he is. I don’t even know how to describe him, but I love him 😩 Raf honestly is a little hard for me to love, which is why I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5. I just love Michele and maybe that makes me like Raf less. Or it could be I don’t like how he treats Noelle and is always blabbing about Lucero and how she’s his soul 😣 I believe he has a lot of room to grow though and I will probably like him more. I also love Michele’s h! She’s so naive and innocent and I just want to hug her. I want Michele to be NICER TO HER, UGHH Michelle plz 😭
I’m so excited for the coming books in the series! Definitely check this series out!
AFTER A LOT OF DIGGING, I FIND OUT THAT THIS SERIES i.e WAR OF SINS, IS ACTUALLY IN THE SAME UNIVERSE AS MORALLY QUESTIONABLE SERIES. AND SO THE CORRECT READING ORDER (AFTER LOOKING IT UP ON THE AUTHOR'S WEBSITE IS)--
My Name is Pink
Morally Corrupt
Morally Blasphemous
Morally Decadent
Frivolous
Morally Ambiguous
The Taste of Revenge
The Foiled Plan
The Prodigal Son (optional)
The Counterfeit Lover
The Sins of Noelle
The Moral Dilemma
War Unfinished is republished as The Taste of Revenge & The Foiled Plan
War Unjust is republished as The Prodigal Son & The Counterfeit Lover
3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have mixed feelings bout this book. I can’t say I loved it but I can’t say I hate it either. I was excited at some points and bored out of my mind at some. I hated how cisco treated Noelle like she’s 7 years old that don’t know what’s good for her, like she’s acting this way because of u. I even hated his wife more. I don’t know if I i will read the second book, am scared I won’t like it.
Look, was it terrible to read all the torture and the twisted mafia stuff? Yes. Did i skip some of it? Absolutely. But did it also fuel my need for REAL enemies to lovers? Yes.
It's a lot of tags despite the fact that it's not especially gratuitous. I would say it's more psychological. There are a few things, well, one thing in particular that involved the MMC in a flashback that I found upsetting but MORE SO because he almost perpetrated the same thing on the FMC. The only difference is he stopped. So while you really feel for the FMC at that moment and the fear and, well, horror to be honest, what disturbed me is that the MMC DID stop himself. However, no one was there to save HIM in the past and THAT I found to be really upsetting. Like, I get she'd be traumatized but gods, I take what she went through and just multiply it a thousand fold for the MMC. Honestly, I'm not really sure why people aren't that crazy about the MMC. I didn't find what he did or said to be "unfair" as he's operating on what he knows. Again, it's all from multiple POVs and we the reader are only privy to what happened as filtered through their thought process. Sort of like "Rashomon."
Anyways, it's a fascinating story told from multiple POVs. No one is innocent which I found surprising. Most of these characters have suffered in their past and all have blood on their hands. So to speak. I won't say more because I do think in this case the surprise as each little piece of the puzzle is revealed is part of what makes it so interesting.
I give it 5 stars simply for the fact that it does travel the less beaten path as far as narrative. Hopefully the author keeps that trend going and is able to untangle the complex web of the plot.
thanks to Veronica and her team for sending me the arc of this book, i’m forever grateful. 🤍
4.5 ⭐️
steamy dark romance?? enemies to lovers??? arranged marriage?? I’M IN.
i adored the first meeting between Noelle and Rafaelo. he was captivated by the melody of piano she was playing. and that was hot and mysterious at the same time.
the tension between these two was also SO GOOD! they either wanted to kill or fuck each other, there’s no in between. and the banter between them?? FAN-FUCKINGTASTIC.
i knew from the moment he grabbed the man by the throat for looking at her @ss, that he has started falling in love with her but he wasn’t ready to admit it yet. 😏
my heart was shattered into million pieces reading what both Noelle and Rafaelo went through before, and it had me eagerly awaiting more about their happily ever-after CAUSE THEY DESERVE IT, YOU KNOW ❤️🩹
after Fairydale, this is the second book of hers that i’ve read and it’s official to say Veronica Lancet never disappoints me 💕
First of all thank you to the author for the Arc 🖤🫶🏼
Second… Wooow this book was amazing and I’m speechless… I don’t know how to describe everything… This book made me feel so many emotions and it was just perfect It’s one of the best enemies to lovers books I’ve read so far Even though they only get closer by the ending there was so much tension and the story itself is sooo interesting and has so much suspense so you’ll not even notice how fast you’re reading and reacahimg the ending 😩🖤
Rafaelo… The man who promised to take revenge on her and make her life a living hell, because elf somthing he believes her to have done… But there is somthing between him and Noella… Tension and passion but also so much hatred… He made on promise and he wants to fulfill this promise but with each passing day it’s more and more difficult for him to take revenge …
And then there is Noella… A young woman who’s already been through so much… Troubled past and a lot of secrets wich she can’t seem to remember… Dark secrets and troubled past is still haunting her… Her life was already difficult enough but after rafaelo enters her life everything got just worse but also better… She has this interest towards the man she’s supposed to hate and loathe the most …
But isn’t the forbidding fruit always the sweetest and most apeeling ?
Trope/vibes: 🖤mafia romance 🖤dark romance 🖤enemies to lovers 🖤”who did this to you” 🖤forced/arranged marriage
I will start this review by saying that are some authors that I could read anything they write (a book of 1000 pages? Yes. A short story? Also yes. A supermarket list? Why not?)... Veronica Lancet is one of them. Everything she writes I love, so this book isn’t different at all. *Enemies to Lovers *Mafia *Dark (like really dark, check the triggers) *Manipulate and obsessive hero Here we have more about the Deville and Guerra family. I start by saying that since Bass’s book, I really disliked all of Deville, but Noelle slowly conquered me in this book. Rafaelo, on the other hand… Well, since Morally Ambiguous I was confused and had twisted feelings about him (of course, I chose the other brother, so my dislike of Raf is comprehensive). The way Raf treats Noelle is frustrating, but you see he’s transforming and changing over the story. I am suspicious about Noelle, but at the same time that I liked her, I have a feeling that this is a façade too. This book has put me on edge since I began and I can’t wait to read more about the brothers.
