Thirty-two-year-old Shaylee Hamilton leads a double life. At night, she charms men online as Tess the Tease, but by day she’s a virgin who’s too anxious to sing in front of other people. Determined to overcome her fears, Shaylee decides that over the next thirty days she’ll go on ten dates and perform live music in front of a crowd.
After losing both his band and his fiancé to the same bass player, Jason Loftus descended into complete cynicism. Now, he mindlessly leaps from one fling to the next and swears he’ll never love again.
Paired up in a songwriting class, Shaylee and Jason soon discover that they share a passion for more than just music. But will secrets and insecurities silence their song before it even begins?
OMG!!! I loved it!!! Up until the ending I was only giving 4.5-4.75 at most…that ending was 🥰….I don’t know if I have the right words…words are hard
Shaylee, a 32 year old online sex working virgin with severe anxiety, lives with her roommate Penny…she makes a deal with her therapist to go on 10 dates in 30 days….some of these dates were some real uh winners??? On her first date she’s supposed to meet Larry at a bar….she walks in, sees an attractive man sitting at the bar, assumes he’s Larry & starts a conversation with him….only he’s not Larry…his name is Jason, recently dumped by his fiancé & his band…Shaylee & Jason go their separate ways that night only to be paired up a few days later at their songwriting class (another assignment from the therapist)
Shaylee & Jason become fast friends & she tell him about the 10 dates….& there’s a wide variety of dates…trust me I would of bailed on most of them before I even got there
At one point Shaylee & Jason are getting pretty close & I’m screaming ‘ditch the dates & hit on this guy’ but she powers through…then Jason finds out she’s a sex worker & everything he thought he knew about sweet innocent Shaylee went right out the window
How do the dates go??? Does she lose her virginity to one of the said dates??? How does the song writing class go??? Do they perform their song??? Can Jason get over Shaylees line of work & trust her again??? Does Shaylee let her anxiety have her running for the hills??? Do they become friends again or possibly more??? Read this book!!! Be prepared for quite a bit of spice though…I loved every bit of it
I really enjoyed this book, I got it as an arc and wasn't sure what to expect. It was a great story about a woman named Shaylee who is discovering who she is and what she wants. I liked how the story talked about anxiety and the setbacks it can cause to people. Great love story between Shay and Jason. I would definitely recommend this book.
Thank you Simone Monroe for allowing me to read an ARC in exchange for this unbiased review.
I absolutely loved this book! I always love reading advance copies even if topic may not interest me, but this one was beyond excellent! It had me hooked from the very beginning and had an enjoyable and relatable story line with just the right amount of spice! I was very happy with the flow of the book and it made for a quick and easy read. I didn't notice any typos or grammatical errors throughout which enhanced my reading experience.
I don't want to give much away without spoilers, but really the only thing I disliked about the book was the constant use of "fuzzy" aka Shaylee's anxiety. While reading the reviews I noticed a lot of people enjoyed this little quirk, but I found it kind of annoying how much it was brought up. In the end, the book had a fantastic ending and I am very happy everyone got their own happy endings. This book is very modern 2023, with mention of sex workers and dating apps.
I will definitely be reading more by Simone Monroe in the future!
I received an ARC copy of the book from the author in exchange for this unbiased review.
Undress Your Wounded Heart was such a unique story and concept with a very relatable main character, Shaylee, who suffers from extreme anxiety due to past trauma. I connected with her conceptualization of her anxiety (which she nicknames "Fuzzy") and appreciate how she feels it follows her and speaks to her in the back of her mind in nearly every interaction she has. The contrast of Shaylee’s s**ual inexperience and her online s** work was so interesting and I think the author portrayed the dual aspects of her personality so well, including how engaging in her work could kind of numb out the difficulties she experienced in real life.
What I would have liked to see more of is nuanced characters and events. I felt on a few occasions that the characters’ dialogue or actions were not as believable as I would have liked and it’s such a subtle thing but I keep coming back to the idea of depth... and feeling that there was almost a caricature-like nature to the characters or that the characters’ choices/actions were almost too convenient to be realistic. I also would have loved to hear more about Jason’s backstory.
I loved that this book was a unique, quick read, and it kept me engaged and coming back for more of the story for sure! The awful dates Shaylee endured were so cringeworthy and I love that, paradoxically, this author writes awful men so well! I loved the ending — it was sweet and had me smiling. I love a good Happily Ever After! :)
The dedication at the beginning had me going “awww!” So cute! Shaylee is on a site almost similar to OnlyFans. She tries to help people with their fantasies and know that it’s okay. She wants to find love, but has a hard time actually finding a man. She ends up meeting a man, who’s she writing lyrics for, named Jason. Jason seems like a huge flirt. What happens when they get closer than they were really expecting? This book was a good read and I absolutely adored it! I love how some of the turns of the book, made it so much better. This really was a page turner book!
So I read this book in a day, which hardly ever happens because of husbands and kids, so that tells you how into the book I really was!
Now this is as a result of an ARC, in exchange of an unbiased review and I really hope to do it justice. I LOVED this book! It was freaking adorable!! Was there a lot of spice? No. But that’s okay, I don’t personally feel like you need a lot of spice to make a book read.
This book had me hooked from page 1. I mean she's a 32 year old virgin who moonlights as an online sex worker. Like that's crazy. I was not expecting that.
I feel like the fact that she's riddled with anxiety makes her very relatable. And the Jason, the hot musician who just got his heartbroken, that's also relatable to anyone who has gone through heartache. The dates Shaylee went through really had me questioning humanity and thanking my lucky stars that I'm married and don't have to go through any of that. But there were a few dates that seemed good, but you could tell it was too late. She had already met her other half.
I found myself rooting for both of them, I like what they had to go through to appreciate each other.
But most importantly, can we talk about Penny? She's a real friend right there!! She's there for Shaylee through everything, she's supportive and honest and caring. We all need a Penny in our lives.
So without going into too many details, this book is definitely worth the read!
This book tugged at my heart. Shaylee is a character that anyone with anxiety can relate to. Her journey to overcome her anxiety is filled with ups and downs. Her awkwardness will endear you to her as well as make you laugh and cringe.
This book has a well developed female lead with the male lead taking more of a backseat support role. Jason sounds like a great character but I would have liked to have more time to get to know him throughout the story.
This review was a result of an ARC from the author.
I honestly didn’t know what to expect going into this book but I read it in less than a day. It gripped me and wouldn’t me let go til I finished it. Spice was just enough 👌🏻
On a personal level, I related to Shay in regards to her anxiety and loved it was depicted as a whole separate internal conversation. I love that she named it Fuzzy bunny to take some of the threat away.
I would have enjoyed learning more about Jason and his background but for a fast read with a unique take I would absolutely recommend reading it.
I received an ARC copy of the book from the author is exchange for this unbiased review.
I don’t even know where to start. I went in totally unprepared without knowing the background of the story.
For someone that also struggles with crippling social anxiety, parts of this book really hit home for me. Seeing Shay overcome some of her fears, makes me feel like I’m not totally alone in the world.
I loved every part of this book, from the anxiety, to the spice and everything in between.
I would have maybe liked to have known Jason a little bit more, but beggars can’t be choosers and the author still did an amazing job, keeping me hooked with every word.
I received this book as an ARC from the author. I really loved the book. Shaylee made you relate to her through out the book. Though I have to say Penny was my favorite character. She was so supportive and loving. Everybody should have a friend like that. The dates that Shaylee went on were so realistic and little bit cringe that they were relatable. Shaylee and Jason’s interaction were great. They definitely had great chemistry. Though I wish we got to a little bit more on Jason’s background. Other then that it was a really good book. I would definitely re-read it again.
I received a copy as apart of the ARC team for an honest review, I LOVED this book! I don't personally deal with such bad anxiety as the main charector does, but I do have the occasional anxious thoughts and I feel like this book displayed is so well. The female MC was so relatable in so many ways, and I loved the progress she made, the spice was light for me but I didn't mind that at all, I love to change things up and this book was amazing!
I was offered Undress Your Wounded Heart as an ARC from the author, and let me just say I was pleasantly surprised. I don't normally go for cute romances, but I fell in love with Shaylee and Jason! I related to the FMC because I, too, suffer from anxiety and have felt firsthand the effects of my own little "Fuzzy" in not only life but in dating as well.
I would have liked more of Jason and his own emotional turmoil, maybe in a future book?
Undress Your Wounded Heart by Simone Monroe is a single POV story. This was a great read and I couldn't put it down. This is a rock star romance, which I love. This author portrays anxiety and its repercussions on a person’s life so well. As someone who suffers from anxiety and depression, Shaylee was a very relatable character.
This story is a steamy strangers to friends to lovers romance following Shaylee through an emotional journey of self growth and mental health awareness. I really loved Shay as a character. Shay is a 32 year old woman who also happens to be a virgin because of her crippling anxiety, Fuzzy. Yes, her anxiety is a bunny named Fuzzy. Again, as a person with an anxiety disorder, it was nice to read about a person I can relate to. I loved the idea of how opposite her work personality was from her social personality.
Jason is adorable, a flirt and maybe a little bit damaged. He is a talented musician, wounded by betrayal, with a mountain of insecurities of his own. Together, Shay and Jason are perfect for each other, even if they don't figure that out right away. That makes this story a much more realistic representation of life.
The best friend in the book is freaking awesome! We all love a supportive best friend. This book gives you all the HEA feels with some spice. Great book filled with sweetness, humor, spice and a tiny bit of angst. This story focuses a lot on anxiety and the feelings anxiety leaves with you. It also focuses on overcoming obstacles, giving love a chance, believing in second chances and how sometimes all it takes in life is a lot of effort and communication. I am so glad I chose to read this one! If you like a sweet, easy to read story with just the right amount of drama and very relatable characters, then this is a great one to read!! I would definitely recommend this one to others!!
“To anyone who ever chose to do the things that scare them. Wishing you love, happiness, and just enough anxiety to keep life exciting.”
“Get to know me? Penny, I’m 32 years old, I’m an online sex worker, and I’m a virgin. I’m a walking contradiction. I don’t know what I’m doing. Not in real life, anyway.”

Thoughts:
First and foremost I have never and I mean never related to both MMC and FMC like I related to Jason and Shaylee. It’s like Author Simone Monroe took my deepest darkest part of my life and wrote it into this amazing story. I felt Shaylee’s struggle with dealing with extreme anxiety on a day to day basis as bad as she did. Then I felt Jason hesitation to move past his betrayal from his ex. The plot was phenomenal and the spice was a slow burn but everything in between was just amazing. The dirty talk had this girl smiling from ear to ear. I cannot put into words how astounding this book was. It’s just that good that you just have to read it for yourself. I highly recommend this book.
“I once told you these were the most beautiful flowers. But even then, I knew that was a lie. Even then, I knew that you were the most beautiful flower I would ever lay eyes on.”
Can we talk about the edging the author had us go through in this book?!! 🫠🫠🔥🔥

3.5 stars. This was a great read. I loved that this book explored how the internet can allow you to explore a side of yourself that you might not be able to in real life but that doesn't mean that it's not really you. Tess was as much a part of Shaylee and Fuzz was and as the Shaylee who went on the dates was. I thought the book also did a great job of exploring what it's like to have social anxiety. I will say that I was a bit frustrated by some of the decisions that Shaylee made in regards to her dates and the red flags she ignored. I guess her anxiety made it hard to know which red flags to play attention to and which not too, but I feel like pure common sense should have kept her from agreeing to some of these dates and locations. I also would have loved to have seen some interaction with her therapist or at least her talking about what her therapist thought of her progress since the whole thing was set up as an assignment from her therapist. All in all, I give this book 3.5 stars. I enjoyed it a lot.
From the start of the book, I was intrigued by the main character, Shaylee & and her alter ego, Tess the Tease. As she begins to explore a whole world beyond what she imagined is out there, she discovers the anxiety of dating online but also the thrill of meeting new people. From the moment she met Jason, i knew something good was about to happen... the vivid imagery leaves nothing to the imagination of what is occurring between Shaylee & Jason... this steamy, heart-pounding story will have you wanting more with each chapter & I'm sure hoping the author decides to write more stories like this one...
Undress your wounded heart Show me your exquisite scars I’ll soothe your soul when life hits hard Just stay and light the dark
Pulled an all nighter for this and do i regret it? No, not at all. I would do anything to read this for the first time again.
Shay, the fmc, is a shy woman with social anxiety. Jason, the mmc, is a flirt who's still lowkey hung up on his shitty ex. Their chemistry as soon as they met just screamed DESTINY. When i first started it i did not think i would get so attached to then like I love the both of them so much. Shaylee is such a great person, i want to be her friend 3. Shay is a character I will forever hold in my heart dearly because I could relate and I also understood her so much. I love the way penny and jason are so calm and patient with shay. I laugh, cried and got creeped out together with them. And the chapters after chapter 23😭33
The only reason why i didnt give this a full 5/5 is because I WANT, NO, NEED JASON POV. I wanna see what he was thinking, what he was going through3
Anywho it surely is hard to believe that its a debut because its great and cant wait for her future works as well!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received this book as an ARC from the author for an honest review. I could not put this book down. Five hours later and I was shocked, heartbroken, happy, sad, mad, and just in awe.
This book took me on an absolute roller coaster ride of emotions. It has a little bit of everything. I was happy that the main character got her happy ending, but lord if she did not really go through a mess to get it. As someone with anxiety I can full heartedly relate to the female main character. Her double life just made it so much better because you really can just feel how hard she had to work to get out of her shell while battling with her inner self.
I at times was so angry with the male lead character because ugh, just ugh. What can I even say without spoiling it. He was battling his own inner demons and in turn at times made things so much worse, but you can't help but fall in love with him all at the same time. I wanted to know every step of the way what his thoughts were because it was so hard to read him at times.
I overall just absolutely loved this book, the journey, the love story, and the spice. 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend.
I actually really liked this book. It was a cute, fun read and yes that characters did seem a little bit immature at some points but I still found myself flipping through the pages wanting to know what was going to happen next.
The book follows Shay who struggles with social anxiety “Fuzzy.” She can’t seem to face real people but when she turns into Tess it’s a different story. Tess is a online husky gal who gets her clients rocks off, isn’t shy, knows how to talk to them. The complete opposite of Shay.
Shay has a few things she wants to accomplish: go on 10 dates to see that the world doesn’t hate her. Lose her virginity. And finally sing one of her songs in her music classes show.
Jason shows up along the way and brings Shay out of her shell, they soon become friends and maybe something a little more.
I got this as an ARC copy for an honest review and I can honestly say it was great! Shay was a very relatable FMC and I can relate to a lot of how she felt/her thoughts. If you never struggle with anxiety, count yourself lucky because it’s a beast you never want to deal with. Jason was also relatable and I loved how they came together in the end. The epilogue was a perfect close to the book, but I only wish we got to see more of their future. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author!
Super cute story. The author wrote shaylees anxiety really well. The plot was good and I loved Shaylees alterego Tess
I did feel the story lacked depth, description and explanation and felt myself wanting more out of the chapters and interactions as I feel there should have been more building and story behind the plot..A duo POV would have even made it more in-depth to learn about the male MC, his story and his feelings.
I received this book as an ARC for an unbiased review.
Going into the book I didn’t know a lot about it. It is a different idea then other books I’ve read before. In the beginning it was hard for me to get into but after getting a few chapters in I started getting into it. I related with Shaylee especially with the anxiety. I knew how those feelings can effect someone. There were times that I didn’t like Jason and the things he said but he did have moments that made up for that. Overall it was a good read
Unpopular opinion, but I love song lyrics written in the book. I really liked the lyrics the author came up with. The anxiety representation was also really great. It’s a cute romance while learning to navigate your anxiety in life and dating life.
It was also a very uniq story while also portraying a sweet romance
This author discusses anxiety and it’s repercussions on a person’s life so well.. Shaylee (FMC) is basically on OnlyFans but to help others because she feels like she just cannot find HER guy. Jason? Complete flirt possible douche .. overall story arc? Nice(:
This is such a cute romance ! Don’t let the cover fool you, because the content is definitely spicy !! I loved this book so so much !! The characters were super relatable and the double life the FMC had was crazy ! Please give this book a read when it comes out !!
This book was so funny, cute, and heartwarming. I loved it. I can not tell you how many times I laughed out loud at the things in it. The ten dates, the anxiety in it, this girl is me. I loved her so much. 💜
I received this book as an ARC copy & I loved it! Reading about someone with crippling anxiety & learning how to push past it…I can definitely relate. I think this story is so cute. I wish we could have learned more about the MC’s story but it was a quick read & it’s worth it.
This was a good read I couldn't put it down. It portrayed anxiety really well. This is a rock star romance which I love. The chemistry was great. It was well written
From the very first page this book had me hooked!! The author using such good ways of captivating her audience. This book is real it’s funny and it’s so relatable. Shaylee the main character struggles with anxiety. She has an alter ego if you will Tess who is who she is when she works. This is who Shaylee wishes she could be more like. I feel like this is such a relatable thing for people. Shaylee has met Jason who becomes a part of her every day. From class to being friends. They develop such a strong bond. The book brings you through there span of getting to know each other and then confiding in each other. There are some bumps along the way but they end up right where they are supposed to be!! Such a great book!!
