Good bible study, especially because it has some focus on verse memorization which I enjoyed. This book does take some time to work through and you could spend a few months on it.
I did this book as part of an online study group on Facebook.
It is a wonderful way to quiet yourself and learn (or relearn!) how to just be in Gods presence and listen for Him to speak into your heart.
I liked the outline and the flow of each topic/chapter. I enjoyed the authors style of sharing just enough of her life’s struggles to relate to the reader without overwhelming me to take on her burdens as well as my own.
Rest for Your Soul is definitely a book you could do on your own but it was nice to have others share their journey along the way of how God spoke to them through quiet time, study, reflection and Scriptures.
I will definitely be pulling this book out frequently to read over all of the beautiful prayers in the back of the book, and also for the scripture memorization verses.
We are finishing this study in my small group and it has been a wonderful study. Wendy shares vulnerable stories of herself and others and offers practical disciplines to incorporate for solitude, silence and prayer. She teaches on the attributes and various names of God, which was refreshing. We have had great discussions with this study. The chapters are pretty lengthy so we split some chapters into two weeks instead of one. There’s also a yummy cinnamon cake recipe included and we enjoyed that too! ;)
If you have a chance to complete this Bible study, it will be well worth your time. Wendy Blight writes in away that speaks to the reader's soul. She is honest and sincere in her writing. There is so many wonderful things in her book. I highly recommend this book or any book she writes.
Blight offers a plan for reflection and growth. This study offers readers a chance to spend time in both solitude and silence to connect more deeply with God. This is one to return to when needed. We did this as a study group but it can be done independently also.
I started and stopped this book. Picked it up again later. It applied more to me later. It’s a workbook style but I found it good without filling in every blank. I especially liked the model prayers in the back.
Wendy walks us through something that happened to her and that many suffers from. She shows us what the Bible has to say to us. Gives us something to think about
This book is helpful. Some things in it are for newer Christians, like how to memorize Scripture and how to study the Bible. But other pieces are for new and seasoned Christians, such as learning to be still before the Lord and quiet the mind. I think due to our culture, that is a struggle for many. Overall a helpful book that helps the reader to keep their focus on God and the Word. Packed with lots of extras, like specific prayers for different needs, Bible verses pertaining to different concerns, etc.
