Cari Gravier might have learned Selene's big secret, but some things remain constant: the Old Town Cafe, blackberry harvesting, and the shaky relationship with her ex-husband, Mike Sullivan.
But there's more change in the wind, the kind even half blind Old Willis can see. The seeds of the past--betrayal, violence, and heartbreak--are ready for harvest.
L.M. Pruitt has been reading since before she can remember, and writing nearly as long. She fell in love with New Orleans after spending one week there, and visits the city as often as her schedule permits--which isn't nearly often enough. She is the best selling author of the Jude Magdalyn series, the Moon Rising series, the Frankie Post series, and the Winged series. She makes her home in Florida.
Harvest Moon Rising is the outstanding sequel to New Moon Rising. Oftentimes, sequels are never as good as the original, but in this case, I fell in love with the series and I can't wait for book 3.
Cari now knows the town secret and she is embroiled in the towns problems whether she had wanted to be or not. So, when a new group comes to town, Cari is involved. When an old enemy comes back seeking vengeance, Cari has more than enough on her plate. Cari is suddenly in charge of an errant teenage girl, confused about her relationship with her ex-husband, determined to heal old wounds against the town's wishes, and still reeling from grief.
The town is once again in trouble, but with Cari's help, they have new allies. I really love the new characters, especially LaLa. She proves to be a good friend for Cari, she is funny and there for Cari when she needs help. The more the story went on, the more upset I got with the townspeople and with Mike (Cari's ex). No one stops to consider how Cari feels or how their decisions affect her. Cari is such an awesome heroine, she doesn't put up with crap, she's tough, but she is also human. She has been very hurt, and I easily identified with her story. I believe her emotions, they are complex but real.
There is a lot that goes down in Harvest Moon Rising, there really is never a dull moment. Cari starts realizing that the town, and her ex, do not have her best interests at heart. Cari's world is turned from a quiet peaceful place, to a life filled with vicious violence. By the time the book came to an end, I felt like I had been on that emotional roller coaster with Cari.
Harvest Moon Rising is a strong continuation in an outstanding series. LM Pruit is an amazing storyteller who writes with depth and feeling. I can not wait for book 3, I am excited to see where Cari goes next.
Readers, if you like paranormal and werewolf books, the Moon Rising series is a "must-read" series. It has been awhile since I have enjoyed a series this much, I recommend giving it a try.
I was about 20 pages from the end and I reflected that this was a 4 star book. Surprising to me because Ms. Pruitt's book are 5 star all the way. But then the last 20 pages pulled the rug out and left me dizzy, gasping and disoriented. What a great book and what a great writer. L.M. Pruitt's books are anything but formulaic or contrived. Characters' voices, more importantly the narrative voice is so authentic you would swear that you are witnessing the actual events unfold before you ala unscripted "reality TV" (is there such a thing?). She captures it all in such a manner that you too feel the longing, the heartbreak, the laughter and the yearning right beside each character. Because you are so mesmerized by the characters (Cari, Mike, Jamie et al)the twists and turns in the plot are even more unexpected. I found this story to an intimate family study of pack. Cari, the heroine is not a wolf, is unsurprisingly an anti-heroine and not a harmonious extension of the pack. Because she is not a shifter but rather a healer she is poised to be more effective being on the outside of pack mindset. She should be able to solve problems from another perspective. Despite the advantages of her abilities and position this relationship with her neighbors and loved ones is not meant to be as too many events and tragedies have damaged her bonds of trust and love. Cari and Mike's heartbreak is everyone's heartbreak. But as the members of the pack reveal layers of their stories we soon realize that every man, woman and wolf have experienced damage, none fully healed and inevitably accepted as the difficult process of living. I want to read the next story today. I need to know what happens for all of these physically and emotionally damaged people. Great writing Ms. Pruitt.
Well L.M. Pruitt has done it again with Harvest Moon Rising. This is such a great story that I am not quite sure how to put words to this review. The story is heartbreakingly beautiful. I did find myself crying a lot in this novel. We get to see the characters taken to places that I do not know if I would survive.
Well I absolutely love the new characters that are introduced to us in Harvest Moon Rising. And the old characters are wonderful also. Cari and Mike will always be my favorites, it is too bad that they can not seem to find any happiness.
Well lets just say that there is plenty of heart break in this novel, along with lots of surprises that I did not see coming. Harvest Moon Rising is an emotional roller coaster ride, that will leave you, sad, angry and hurt at times. And do not even get me started on the ending, I cried like a baby. I can not wait for the next novel so I can find out what happens next.
If you have not read any of L.M. Pruitt’s novels then I recommend that you do, they are so good that you do not know what you have been missing.
Amazing story! I can't wait to read what happens next in Cari's life. I loved meeting the new characters (I hope to see more of them too) and was definitely shocked at the ending. Usually I can predict what happens, but not here! Great addition to the series!
I am left desperate. This is the second in a series. No third as yet and I have to know what happens. I'm sure I'll go to bed tonight and dream the possibilities, but it's just not the same as knowing for certain.
