Timecaster Supersymmetry

Rate this book
Chicago 2064: A libertarian utopia of biofuels, legalized drugs, and casual sex. There hasn't been any violent crime in years.

Until now…

Talon Avalon is a Timecaster; a cop who is able to look back in time and view crimes that have already happened. But that was before he was framed by an alternate version of himself from another dimension. Now he's being hunted in this world, and countless parallel worlds, as the biggest mass-murderer in history.

While trying to save his kidnapped wife and clear his name, Talon must fight to prevent a series of mishaps that could destroy the multiverse, along with the very fabric of spacetime. He only has a few hours to save an infinity of humanity. All it will take is guts, his fists, some high tech weaponry, and enough strength and savvy to survive genetically mutated monsters, homicidal robots, a zombie apocalypse, and a plethora of erotic encounters.

Who is Joe Kimball?

Joe Kimball is yet another pen name of author J.A. Konrath. While Konrath writes thrillers and Jack Kilborn writes horror, Kimball writes science fiction.

Two Joe Kimball novels, Timecaster and Timecaster Supersymmetry, will be released in 2011 by Ace/Berkley. The first, Timecaster, is scheduled for May 31. You can preorder the paperback on Amazon here.

The books take place in Chicago in the year 2064, and feature Talon Avalon, the grandson of Jack Daniels. They also feature Harry McGlade III.

Plenty of violence, mystery, sex, and jokes are guaranteed. It's like the Jack Daniels books, with cooler weapons

Another great outlandish read in this series. Just simple, full of nonsense fun right here. Something for everyone to enjoy, yet probably to outlandish for some. Not for the timid, but hugely entertaining.

Wow! I feel like I've just finished running a race. If you're looking for quick, fun, hilarious action this book is for you. If deep, well developed characters and weighty plots are more your style, best look elsewhere. From multiple alternate universes and quantum entanglement to singing bananas and zombies, theres a bit of everything here to enjoy.

This one lived up the the first. It was fast paced, funny, and many many many Talon's to enjoy.
Loved it!!
I recommend it to everyone and I cannot wait until the author gets around to writing the third book.

Fab book. IF you are a fan of Douglas Adams or Jasper Fforde and you don't mind a bit of bad language this is a series to try. Now I just have wait for Mr Kimball to write book 3.

Listened to both Timecasters as audiobooks. Pretty funny and good sci-fi series. Maybe one day we'll get the third in the series.

Read this book in order to have closure with the first one, Timecaster, which Konrath wrote as Joe Kimball. That book was better than this one, not as ridiculous or asinine as this one is. Unlike the first Timecaster book which had morality, this was just all over the place, like Konrath was just trying to make money out of writing an even worse sci-fi novel. Several places in the story looked like he was just trying to fill in the pages so this book could be classified as a novel--instead of a novella or short story, which would be entirely possible if he didn't have all that ridiculous add-ons to the plot that took the story nowhere and made it sound exactly like Konrath said it sounded like: a really bad sci-fi novel. Not worth your time unless you want to see how the first book ended which, in my case, I really want to read. So I guess, despite the flat humor and storyline turned dumb, I'll wait to read the last one just to see how these bad sci-fi novels end up. I'm not holding my breath for plot redemption in the last installment, though. ...

I've written a review of Timecaster and alluded to this, book 2. In short this is a really, really poor attempt at a sequel to an ok first book. By the end I had no idea who was who and what was happening with the plot. It was sloppy and indulgent. The self-referential humour was jarring and the writing just deteriorated as the book progressed. Both books had some nice ideas but particularly in the case of this book, they weren't enough to save things. Although I probably shouldn't I like Konrath generally and have read a handful of his books (including some of the Jack Daniels series) but this has dented my view of his writing.

Sure there is more nonsense than science in this book but it was enjoyable. Harry, as in the last book, was my favorite character. The writing in book two was more consistent and an improvement over book one. Less humor in this book but it is done better than book one so that is a plus. Not really happy with how the book plays out or the appearance by Jack, and the in jokes ("it is like we are in some bad science fiction book") are a bit tiresome but overall I was entertained.

So much fun!! This was the second book in a "trilogy" that I had a great time reading. There were so many scenes that were my favorite. The reason this title took a while to read was, I had to re-read scenes because of how much I liked them. The dialog between characters had me chuckling a lot and the new environments/worlds were exciting. Now, I am just waiting for book 3 Timecaster Steampunk.

Made me look forward to going to bed to read.

I love when I'm reading a book that I look forward to getting back to. This was one such. I actually read the first book as part of a compilation and I enjoyed it so much I put the compilation on hold whilst I read the next in this series.

Sure, parts are insane as the description states but it is also a very well developed futuristic world and society with many interesting components. The protagonist is likeable and fun.

This second book did have a few more mistakes than the first but nothing so egregious it deterred me.

Now, onto the third.

Highly recommended.

Great read.

I’m not good at leaving reviews. I don’t want to give anything away. I will say this book is damn good, plenty of action & a ton of laughs thrown in also. The author is quite twisted, I have no idea how he thinks some of this craziness up & I love every minute of it. I can’t wait to read the 3rd book. This is a great read but don’t take my word for it....READ IT!!

A very interesting mystery
This Timecaster is a very interesting well written mystery. The characters are well developed with the multiple characters it gets a little confusing. The story line charges locations which keeps you on your toes. I would recommend this novel too anyone who enjoys JA Konrath. Enjoy reading 2015

I wanted to love this, but it was a bit of a rollercoaster. The premise was exciting, but somewhere along the way, it lost its momentum. Some parts were thrilling, while others felt overly detailed and slow. It had moments of brilliance, but they were few and far between. It’s good, just not great.

Excellent!

Argh! I can't believe that I'm going to wait 10 months to read the conclusion! It's like a "coït interrompu"... At least, I didn't read it in 2013 and don't have to wait full 8 years ton conclude this excellent saga...

It had its ups and downs. The concept was unique, but the execution was inconsistent. Some chapters were beautifully written, while others felt rushed and incomplete. The characters had potential, but they needed more depth. A decent read, but not one I’d revisit.

Absolutely fantastic! The author has a way with words that brings every scene to life. The story was engaging, the characters lovable, and the pacing just right. It was the perfect escape and exactly what I needed. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a good read.

This is my second (or is it third?) time around with the two Timecaster books, although this one is my favorite. It's got Multiple Talons, Chickulas, Harry McGlade, Zombies, a giant bedbug, singing bananas, and the legendary Jack Daniels.

Fantastic book, looking forward to the third one.

The first book in this series had a lot of promise. It was quirky, but in a good way. This book just went off the rails. Pretty disappointing.

A note for readers of this book: It would help to read the first book in this series as an introduction to the characters, and there is a glossary in the back of the book (which I found after I was finished) that will help understand all the 'future-world' words.

I'm a big fan of J.A Konrath / Jack Kilborn, so I had to give this book a read, even though I rarely read science fiction. I have to admit it was very difficult to get into - different worlds, different "same" characters (Talon, Talon 2, Alter-Talon, Dark Alter-Talon), and so many "new" words that seemed to be made up for the book since kindle couldn't find them in the dictionary. (See note above - the glossary at the end would have helped.) I struggled to keep everything straight and understand exactly what was going on. (I tend to have ADD when I read too, so constantly picking up the book and putting it down, probably didn't help.)

As Kilborn's usual style, the book was fast paced and funny. You can't help but laugh out loud at some of the dialogue and scenes he writes. This book definitely takes a lot of imagination (typical for science fiction I think) and the reader needs to go into it with a sense of humor or you may think it's too silly and too far-fetched. Overall, it was an ok read, so I would have to give it 3 stars. I prefer the usual horror books Kilborn writes...

OK... I didn't particularly like book 1, "Timecaster". Book 2 "Timecaster Supersymmetry" is worse. I'm sorry I bought it. I'm not even a fourth of the way through this one and I stopped.

The series is similar to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with a lot of sex and cursing added in. It is absurd. It is not funny to me. It might be funny to you so read a few pages before you buy it to make sure. I didn't do that so I'm sorry.

I can't even remember why I bought it. I suppose I was in the mood for a time travel adventure. I saw book two and I don't like to start a series in the middle. (Don't start this series in the middle.) I went to the first book. The description sounded good. I've read books with sex in it so I was OK with some of that, but not this much and not this crude.

I liked the hero but the story was too absurd and I don't make jokes like this.

OK. I don't want to dump all over the book more than I have. The author writes well. I imagine some people will like this subject. I'm not the one. I made a mistake. I'm sorry. I'll be more careful next time.

one remarkably crazy book

this is the second book in the (as yet) incomplete timecaster trilogy.

after the cliffhanger of the first book you think that the book will roll forward in the methodical pursuit of the villain by the hero...

...this is not what happens. It changes tack into a reality hopping mind bending adventure with a lot of extra heroes and villains to go around.

the bonkers buddy comedy elements are still there and they get even weirder.

the crazy cultural references are there too

the book even pauses at several points to make fun of itself comparing events to something you would read in a bad sci fi novel.

this novel features a banana that sings the blues (not kidding)

my only gripe is that this book ends on an even bigger cliffhanger and features to taunt of the title of the third part which the author will get round to writing when he has time.

I'm usually not a fan of science fiction, but as a huge fan of J. A. Konrath slash Jack Kilborn, I gave this series a try. Timecaster was a quick fun read, filled with action, sex and a hilarious cameo from Harry McGlade III. Timecaster Supersymmetry was much the same, with ten times more action, sex and Harry McGlade III. Unfortunately, there were so many infinite worlds and characters it was hard to keep up at times, and with four Talon's (some good some evil), several Vicki's (mostly sex crazed), a few Sata's, a singing banana and a return performance from Jack and Phin was a little too much crammed into three hundred odd pages. But Kimball's books are fun, fast paced and thanks to Harry, completely hilarious. Brainless fun, looking forward to the trilogy finale, Timecaster Steampunk.

This was not the kind of book I usually read, so I may not be the best critic for this genre. I didn't really care for it. There were some interesting parts in regard to different universes and different technologies, but I simply was not too impressed with the writing. In the version I read, there were many mistakes and it just seemed really hokie that the author kept saying that things happening sounded like a cheap sci-fi novel, which it was. The suspense that was supposed to happen just really didn't seem suspenseful to me. This may be the type of book for some people, but just wasn't my style.

Just as awesome, hilarious, and action-packed as Timecaster, but with even greater odds and sexier sex. Talon finds out that he's not just fighting to save his wife, his body parts, and his own universe, he's also fighting for Alter-Talon's universe, plus the dark counterparts of each of their universes.

That all sounds really confusing, but Konrath does a great job of keeping all the Talons, Vickis, and Satas straight for the reader. Plus, there are some exciting guest stars and a singing banana.

I 100% recommend Timecaster and Timecaster Supersymmetry. I can't wait for Timecaster Steampunk to come out!

If you ever wanted to read a book that was insane for just the sake of being insane, this is it. It's even crazier than the first. At least in the 1st, there was a story, this was just ongoing insanity.

Because I knew what I was getting, I thought it was funny as hell. But, I can't, in good mind, give it a 3 because it's not most people thing. If you know anything about Konrath, and are used to him, then you may like the book. If you haven't read him, don't want an insane (we're talking horny giant robot centipedes and singing bananas), then as he says in the start of his book ~ go read another fucking book.

Funny as hell if you are ok with that!
