“What is one thing you’re afraid of?” he asked. She glanced up from her plate and absently stabbed her food with her fork.
“The dark,” she replied without thinking. Ashton studied her with a look of curiosity.
“The dark,” he repeated, and she nodded.
“Not so much the dark,” she amended, “but what might be in the dark.”
“Except there’s nothing in the dark,” he countered. She studied him for a long minute.
“You can’t say there’s nothing in the dark,” she replied, “because it’s dark. I don’t think most people are unafraid of the dark. They’re just happier not knowing what’s out there, but pretending nothing is hiding in the shadows doesn’t mean there’s nothing out there. It just means you aren’t prepared. I’d rather prepare for what might be, than pretend there’s nothing to fear.”
“So, what’s in the dark?” he questioned, intently curious. Béa pressed her lips together to keep her thoughts from spilling out, but they managed to push through.
“Monsters,” she answered, “hiding behind men’s faces.”

D.P. Davidson enjoys writing young adult fiction. Her stories come in various ways and she is happy at every new inspiration. The writing process gives life to her characters, and she is thankful for the opportunity she has to share her work with others. She once jumped off of a bridge because everyone else was doing it. While it seemed like a good idea at the time, she advises against it. She has a knack for finding herself in absurd situations, so she's learned not to take herself too seriously. She has also learned to find the humor in her daily misadventures and has taught her children to do the same. She has home-schooled her four children for the last seven years, a choice she says is not for everyone. She has spent the last eighteen years trying to get a laugh out of her husband. He has yet to crack. She loves her dog Gus even though he's a big doofus and has attempted a garden every year for the last eighteen years. This season was her first successful attempt.
