Legend has it that Armand Argeneau is a killer in the bedroom...

But with all three of his late wives meeting unfortunate and untimely ends, is this sexy immortal a lover or a murderer? That's what Eshe d'Aureus intends to find out. As an enforcer, it's her job to bring rogue vampires to justice, even if the rogue in question makes her blood race red hot.

Armand knew she was trouble the moment Eshe roared into town on her motorcycle, clad in tight black leather. She claims she's hiding from dangerous fiends, though he suspects something more. But after three wives who've all had trouble remaining, well, undead, Armand is reluctant to open his heart again. Then strange accidents start to happen, each deadlier than the last, and Armand realizes he may not have much time to prove he's a lover, not a slayer.

Meh. This should have just been a short story, or the end of the last book. It didn't merit an entire book at all.

So, what is worse than a boring, depressed vampire who is also kind of dumb? All of those qualities along with being a FARMER. That's right, folks, our vampire is a farmer. We get to read all about him sticking his hand into animal orifices and shoveling manure. Glamorous stuff, huh? So, considering my city-girlness, my dislike of anything gross, and my general distaste for the stupid, this guy didn't cut it for me. Plus, the Eeyore mentality. My least favorite character in Pooh-ville. Tigger for the win, y'all!

dat ass.... so cute.

Why is Armand, the vampire farmer, dumb? Well, he had three wives who died by beheading and fire, and yet never once talked to his own brother - the head of the vampire police - to say, "hey, maybe look into this for me?" Now, about the brother's excuse for waiting hundreds of years before sending out someone to investigate? I'm not sure. Maybe brains aren't that family's strong suit. They are pretty, not smart. Hopefully. They'd better be pretty to have this much dumb going on.

give this poor girl a damn map! And, keep her out of the rain for goodness' sake. She'll drown for sure.

Our vampire farmer has just resigned himself to everyone he ever loves dying and having to send his children away for their safety. So, he lives alone with only farm animals and their orifices to keep him entertained. I'm not saying he's a sheep-shagger, but ... you know...

That's right, Wooly! You tell 'em!

Enter Eshe. She's a female vampire and she's a badass dammit! She wears all leather, rides a motorcycle, and dyes her hair orange and red so it looks like her head is on fire.
Le Sigh.
Okay, so these two are like total opposites!! How cute and zany will it be if they get together?
As it turns out - not very. Other than Eshe looking interesting, there isn't really much else that makes this story interesting at all. There is the "mystery", which pretty much is easy to figure out within the first 30 seconds of meeting the killer. The fact that these morons couldn't figure it out, again, makes me seriously question what the hell these vampires have been doing for centuries. Because one thing is obvious - it wasn't learning.
Or, even watching one episode of CSI.
Seriously. How are they filling their time?

Oh. yeah.

well, unlike most other reviewers, I was very disappointed in this book!

this felt like a short story, more then a full novel. so much was completely underdeveloped. for example,, our heroine, has six living children she birthed with the her first life mate of SIX HUNDRED WONDERFUL YEARS and yet we hear nothing about them, only of armand's three kids. (yes, this is HIS story, but she's his life mate, it's THEIR story). her previous life mate is mentioned briefly. big whoop.

the "mystery" of who has killed armand's previous wives is painfully clear, simply but process of elimination. (although sands attempts a 'twist' that feels very tacked on).

a pp has said that she had no trouble following the myriad of characters without having read the previous books. well, I did, and I've read them all! every name ever used in the previous books is brought up. every couple, including the whole sisters clan, is tumbled forth, sometimes only in name. It felt like filler to me.

all in, I found this to be super simplistic, somewhat boring, and not comparable to most of the other argeneau books.

I know as the creator of the Argeneau group I should love the books in the series more than anyone, but seriously this book was terrible. I even gave 2 stars because I liked the epilogue but I'm not sure if it even deserves that. Definitely the one I enjoyed the least in the whole series.

First, there is no romance at all. They meet, realize they are mates and go straight to bed. That's all,really.REALLY! I was bored like hell most of the time. Had to put it down more than once, even read another book in between. I only finished it because it was a short book but was close to not do it more than once.

Then we have the whole investigation about Armand's dead wives. Well this was even worse than the lack of romance. It was obvious who did it since the beginning, as there are only 4 or 5 possible murderers. The whole time they go to talk to them over and over again to discover clues but nothing comes of it.

It was bad. I'm sorry to say it, but it's the truth. I still love the series and I just want it to go back the way it used to be when it began. Book 12 was amazing, I though it was coming back to it's tracks, but this one was even worst than the 2 rogue hunters's books.

Story 4 stars. Narration 4 stars
Good and really quick listen but then most of this series is that way. I enjoyed the characters, some of which I’m already familiar with because heaven knows I’ve read this series completely out of order until I got to book 23 when I went in order as they came out. Book 23 is also where I began reading the series. Since then, I read a lot of the earlier books and have for the most part enjoyed them. This particular book was book 13 and I did enjoy it although I think I like the immortal and human paired up versus the immortal and immortal pairing of this book. The human/immortal pairing has so much more chance for drama and just finding out about the immortalness of their mate. And yes, I just made up that word! There was plenty of action and even violence in this listen also. A good romance as always in this series is featured. I’ll be reading these books as long as she continues to write them. And by the way, book 23, Runaway Vampire, is still my favorite premise of all of them. Adult read.

Great series but this one wasn't one of my favorites

Part of the popular Argeneau series, 'Born to Bite' picks up where 'The Renegade Hunter' left off. Armand Argeneau's wives were killed under suspicious circumstances. His brother Lucien, a Council member, has opened an investigation. Eshe d'Aureaus, a Council enforcer, goes undercover to investigate. But to her suprise, she finds she can't read Armand and he cannot read her either--they are intended life mates.

I really like the Argeneau series. Most of the books are laugh out loud funny with engaging characters and appealing storylines. They are great beach reads. It's best to read them in order, because many of the early characters show up later in the series. The series has two different publishers, so be sure to check the reading order on the author's website (http://www.lynsaysands.net/books/inde...). I noticed each publisher only lists the books they published, rather than the entire series.

After reading 'The Renegade Hunter' I had really looked forward to reading Armand's story. But I ended up being disappointed. This was one of my least favorite books in the series for a few reasons:
- Generally I don't like books where the main characters jump into bed together without a good focus on relationship development, romantic tension and/or emotional connection beforehand.
- Armand and Eshe weren't as well developed as most of the series other lead characters. I liked Eshe ok as a character, but Armand was just kind of blah.
- The mystery was pretty weak. I almost immediately suspected the murderers. The storyline was too predictable.

I usually really enjoy the books that the Argeneau family members play a prominent role. I'm hoping the next one we see more of Marguerite , Lucian, Bastian, Lissianna, Thomas, etc. It would be great to read books about Julian and Marguerite's son and Julian's nephews. They were great side characters in 'Vampire Interrupted' and I've been hoping for their happily ever afters.

Have I ever told you how much I really love Lynsay's books? No. Well let's just say that I have read every single book she has written to date so does that give you some indication!

This installment of the Argeneau Family Saga is right up there with the best of the best. Lynsay starts out with sparks flying between Armand and Eshe that could incinerate an atomic bomb. Whew..........! Let's just say the hot and steaminess of the beginning chapters will have you running for a cold shower. YUMM!

It's not long before we get down to business though and the storyline really picks up speed and continues right to the end at a fantastic pace. This is a solid storyline that will make you think you are an innocent bystander watching all this as it actually happens. This is what you get from an author who most certainly knows her stuff.

Eshe and Armand are sooooooooo made for each other. I want my own life mate please that will curl my toes and sizzle the tips of my hair. With all that our hero and heroine go through and the way the story makes you think, it will keep you guessing let me tell you. I had part of the puzzle solved early on but questioned myself right up to the end and Lynsay threw just the right size monkey wrench into the story to keep me off track and questioning.

If you are an Argeneau Lover then don't miss out on this book. You snooze you loose as the saying goes and this is a 5 star worth every page.

*2.5ish*

I get the impression enforcers are chosen for their brawn and bravado rather than their brains...

When I read The Immortal Hunter, Eshe's brief appearance sparked my interest. She was forceful, confident and, as a rare female enforcer, she was someone I wanted to learn more about.

So I was eager to get started when I realised Born to Bite concentrated on Eshe's investigation into the "accidental" deaths of Nicholas' and Armand's wives. I'm pleased to get closure on that front, but the story itself was ho-hum.

Other reviewers complained about the lack of Will They or Won't They. That didn't bother me a bit. Though Sands could have gotten more mileage out of Armand's suspect status, why bother when we know everything will turn out fine? Besides, the story just prior used the ploy of criminal as romantic lead - no use repeating it. We've also had countless stories where the main couple have tried to devour each other from early on.

More significant than any of that is the fact that both these characters are immortals who've had life mates in the past; they know the amazing gift they've been given.

As with almost every character Sands creates, Eshe and Armand are enjoyable, amusing, and caring. Eshe in particular prompted me to smile as she teased and badgered Lucian. Armand is somewhat bland, but his protective instincts raise my opinion of him.

Characters aside, not much happens in this book. Sands should probably take her focus off the enforcers because it's increasingly obvious they're shit at their jobs. Eshe might get a pass because of her raging hormones and bliss, but Bricker and Anders have no such excuse. There's a scene where Eshe and Bricker leave a suspect's home with only half their questions asked - and Bricker knows it. Does he pick up the slack during the interrogation? No. He waits until they've exited, necessitating a return trip. Sloppy, sloppy.

I know this isn't a mystery or suspense novel, but when you choose to incorporate these elements I expect some degree of finesse.

The wrap-up is...crazy. The villain is just who I'd thought it would be with a little twist thrown in, but there was little satisfaction in the unveiling. My only thrill came from knowing Nicholas' situation was resolved - but then, I knew that from the last book.

The epilogue is touching and cute and everything we love about the Argeneaus. It's a sweet ending to an otherwise haphazard novel.

FINALLY! When it comes to this series, I am a serious stalker of the author's website. I check weekly, if not daily, to see if there is any news about this series! When the announcement about this book came out, I was doing a happy dance! Wait, you are here for a review and not my excitement. Sorry.

Armand is the father of Thomas, Nicholas and Jeanne Louise. We have met each of them in previous books and the focus of this story is clearing Armand of murder while proving Nicholas is also innocent of his crimes. While Lucian sends Eshe out to Armand's home under the pretense of Armand hiding her out from the bad guys, we also discover that Eshe is actually there to look into the murders of Armand's previous wives. It turns into a mystery of finding out the truth, with romance and witty dialogue along the way!

I loved this book in the series. While I am not a huge fan of the character of Eshe, this book really let her shine and bring Armand into a story of his own. We had the suspense that the author is great at writing, but the important part is she didn't fail on the romance and witty humor that she is also known for! Imagine not eating for centuries and trying to figure out what a can of whipped cream is and how it works! Then imagine looking at a bottle of Metamucil for the first time and seeing a pretty picture on the front thinking it would be yummy! Of course, what makes the humor even better is Bricker trying to explain these things to both of them! I personally can't wait for Bricker's story and I keep begging Ms. Sands to use me as Bricker's life mate!

The suspense was perfectly paced with surprises all throughout the book. The author keeps you guessing at who the true murderer is and kept leading me in different directions. Yet when all is revealed, I was still surprised and loved how it played out.

If you haven't read any of The Argeneau series yet, you must sink your teeth into them as soon as possible! Then when you do, I can guarantee that you will be a series stalker just like me! Well done again Ms. Sands for bringing me another wonderful Argeneau book! Just remember me when you do Bricker's story!

First I must say I have not read any previous books in this series. It was very easy to identify the characters and get involved with the story.
A beautiful, smart vampire named Eshe is sent undercover to investigate the mysterious, but seemingly accidental deaths, of 3 wives of a well known vampire named Armand. She is a enforcer, a vampire trained to hunt rogue vampires. Eshe is torn between her growing feelings toward Armand, and the possibility that he could be a murderer. If he isn't than she must figure out who is. The two of them, plus their very likeable companions must solve this, before someone else gets murdered.
I really liked these characters. They were well rounded, intelligent and interacted well with each other.
The plot was an interesting mix of mystery, romance and vampires. It was nice to see the relationship develop as the mystery evolved and brought the two of them closer.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes vampires,romance and mysteries.

I really was touched my Armond's situation and I admired Eshe for her strength and courage. Eshe being the main one. Super hot, African-American, strong both body and mind and equal to the men since she is an enforcers. I have been wanting to know about the mysterious Armand Argeneau since I started reading this series. I pondered is he a murderer or does he just have really bad luck with women. Each time he falls in love and is blessed with a child each of his wives die in mysterious accident... Born to Bite follows up the story in The Renegade Hunter (book 12) and is all about clearing Nicholas Argeneau's name. I loved Eshe... she's one of the 2 female enforcers and is a tough girl with a mind of her own, a positive attitude and she doesn't take shit from anyone. She is sent to investigate Armand Argeneau to find the proof that Nicholas is innocent. Someone had killed Armand's first lifemate and his two wives. They had framed Armand's son, Nicholas for the murder of a mortal woman and killed his lifemate, as well. In order to prevent Nicholas from being executed of a crime he didn't commit, Lucien sent his enforcer Eshe, to investigate and discover the truth. Interestingly enough, Armand and Eshe were lifemates.

Well when I first started this book I thought it was 3 stars may be 3.5 at most but the more I kept reading the better it got. In the end I had tears in my eyes and had a damn hard time seeing through them. It was a very good read. This Series gets better with each book! There are several things I really love about this book. OK, I have to tell you I am such a die hard Argeneau fan... Born to Bite was full of suspence and I had absolutely no clue who the murderer was untill the very end. I really enjoyed this book. It has some great page-turning parts, the humor, the contradictions, the characters are great, and the steamy scenes are good too. I really liked the characteristics of the female lead, she had spunk, humor, and acceptance in a perfect amount. I would definitely like to be more like that.

While this is a standalone Argeneau novel, it's also a continuation of the previous one, The Renegade Hunter, because it covers the investigation into who killed the pregnant woman and framed Nicholas (in the previous book). The problem with it is that it reads too much like a mystery-filling-a-story-gap, and not enough like a genuine romance.

Eshe is one of the ancients, and an Enforcer, sent by Lucian to his brother Armand's farm in southern Ontario to investigate the supposedly accidental deaths of all three of Armand's wives - and the wife of his son Nicholas. Both Eshe and Armand have had lifemates before, and instantly recognise the signs of meeting a new one in each other: they can't read each other's minds, they've rediscovered their appetite for food, and they share sex dreams. Eshe gently probes Armand about his past wives in order to cross him off the suspect list, and when they get to the point of being unable to keep their hands off each other (which leads to post-orgasmic unconsciousness), attempts are made on their own lives that makes it clear someone is definitely trying to kill not just the women in Armand's life, but him as well, now.

My problem with this book was that the relationship between Eshe and Armand was a little bit pat. A bit too easy and convenient. I know, I know, they're both immortals already, they've both had lifemates in the past and know how to appreciate the gift of a second one and not waste time, but even when they're spending time together and not talking about his dead wives, I just didn't feel it. I didn't get a sense of their chemistry. I didn't really believe in them. And that's the first time it's happened with Sands, whose books I usually love - they've got humour, they're well-written romances, the pacing is great, the characters are usually well developed and grow naturally - but here it felt like a story that needed to be written but lacked heart. Eshe and Armand were quite different people and I couldn't even really picture them together.

Though, introducing a black immortal was a nice, if belated, touch. A previous heroine was Portuguese, but by and large the women (and men) in romance novels are always white. Probably because the authors are always white, but still, it's not that realistic is it? I can also see why Sands has lately been introducing characters who've had lifemates in the past - it would be rather strange for all these people to go so long without, and then WHAM! they all meet lifemates within a few years of each other, and in more or less the same country. Speaking of, I liked that this one was set in Canada, rural Canada no less, though as often happens there aren't any cultural markers to speak of.

This is a good one to read, regardless, especially for the whodunnit part - you'll probably figure it out as quickly as I did but the details weren't as predictable - and it's nice knowing Nicholas is now a free man and Armand isn't cursed.

Wow!! I loved going back to read some Paranormal.

This book was as usual an excellent read.
I love Lynsay Sands. And the whole idea of meeting a life-mate. Someone that is totally destined for you, Love it...
Eshe was a total bad ass! And Armand was a bit one sided for me, but I still loved him! But I mean if you are accused of killing your wifes I suppose you will also be one-sided.

Definitely can't wait to read the rest of it!

This was so good! I listened to the audiobook and I was invested in the story! I didn’t realize that this was part of a series when I started it, but it really didn’t matter. This was a vampire romance with a centuries old murder mystery to solve. I loved the writing. I really enjoyed the narrator. And it was such an easy book to listen and get pulled into. I’m excited to read more of this series since I loved this one so much!

This review is based on a repeat read on July 12, 2020

Setting: Ontario, Canada Contemporary
Genre: Paranormal romance

Armand Aregeneau has been living as a semi-recluse for 100 years, ever since his third wife, Rosamund, died in a freak wagon accident that beheaded her. His second wife, Althea, had died in a hotel fire a couple hundred years before that, and his first wife, Susanna, who was his life mate, burnt up in a stable fire in 1400-something. By the time Rosamund died when his daughter, Jeanne Louise was a few months old, he had grown suspicious. He knew something was happening to the women he loved, so he left his daughter with his sister-in-law, Marguerite, and wouldn’t even see her for fear something wold happen to her once she reached adulthood. Lucian, the head of the North American Council of Immortals was asked Armand, who lives on a farm, if he can use it as a safe house for one of his Enforcers (AKA rouge hunters), because a particularly nasty rogue and his remaining sons (Eshe killed a few of them) are after her especially.
Actually, Eshe d’Aureus has been assigned to investigate the deaths of Armand’s wives (which may be connected to the death of his son Nicholas’s wife, and Nicholas being framed for the murder of a mortal [see: Renegade Hunter]). Either he has some very bad luck, or he is a rogue who needs to be brought in for the Council to mete out justice. But Lucian, separately, tells them to read the other. They can’t. Are they possible life mates, or is it a fluke? They’ll have to see if the other symptoms develop...
So the book is about that, and Eshe’s (and Bricker, whom Lucian sent to watch her back) Investigation into the mystery of the murdered (?) or accident-prone wives.
Overall, the plot is good and kept my interest. I can’t remember if I was surprised by the whodunnit feature the first time I read it, but this time I did have it figured out (or remembered it). I had not remembered the resolution of the mystery though. The characters are well developed, even the secondary ones, like Bricker, Anders, and Lucian. Aside from a couple of minor editorial glitches, the prose is, as usual, pleasing. While not as amusing as other books in the series, it is nevertheless a good addition.
I originally got this book on audio. Luckily I was able to return it because it was such a huge mistake! I didn’t even make it through the first chapter. Actually, the first sentence made me cringe. Kirby Heyborne gave Lucian a voice that sounded like a constipated Kermit the Frog. Eshe and Armand didn’t sound much different from one another. According to one reviewer on Audible. com, he gave Leigh, Lucian’s life mate, a British accent, but she was from Iowa. Here’s the deal, the book takes place in Ontario, but except for Leigh (who is about 30) and Bricker (who is only around 100), the youngest characters are the Maunsel’s, Armand’s brother- and sister-in-law by his late life mate/first wife Susanna, which makes them 500+. None of these older immortals are actually from Canada. Eshe lived mostly in Africa for the first half of her long life, Armand and Lucian (before moving to Canada) lived mostly in France and England. Anders was African and Russian (though you don’t get his full backstory until his book, some of it is revealed in Nicholas’ book, just prior to this one). I don’t know why the narrators (there have been 19 over 31 novels and 2 novellas) don’t give accents that are not North American to the characters who originated elsewhere. I don’t know why HarperAudio doesn’t hire good narrators. Well, not all have been terrible, but still...
My recommendation is that this is definitely a good read. But get it in text - either text or hard copy - and just take the time for a sit down read. I prefer audiobooks because they allow me to listen while I do other things, but a bad narrator isn’t worth it.

This Series gets better with each book!

Description:

Legend has it that Armand Argeneau is a killer in the bedroom . . .

My Thoughts:

There are several things I really love about this book. Eshe being the main one. Super hot, African-American, strong both body and mind and equal to the men since she is an enforcers. Even though she falls in love in this book. She never gets wishy washy she keeps her personality in tact. She totally Rocked! I also really liked Armand, he was a strong tough Immortal with a caring side. Not a soft side but a caring side there is nothing soft about Armin. Both main characters are good multi dimensional characters. The supporting characters all had their own personalities and I loved seeing characters come back from other books. Bricker slays me, he is soooo funny and I just can't wait for his story. He is like a big, masculine, tough cupid. Just a wonderful character. The plots in this series get better and move quicker with each book. This one had a very intricate story line, had some history to it and depth. My 2 main issues is like a lot of the books in this series ends a bit abruptly with very little going on after the resolution. I just felt like I was hanging a bit. Even though it was a good epilogue..for some reason...I felt cheated..The second issue is that I didn't really feel the chemistry between Eshe and Armand..yes there was sex scenes but not sizzling..the emotional connection just didn't seem to be there.

Oveall Liked the book and gave it a 4 star rating, on to the next one:)

OK, I have to tell you I am such a die hard Argeneau fan... And when I was lucky enough to receive Born to Bite for Review I was all a twitter :)

I have been wanting to know about the mysterious Armand Argeneau since I started reading this series. I pondered is he a murderer or does he just have really bad luck with women. Each time he falls in love and is blessed with a child each of his wives die in mysterious accident...

Armand has distanced himself from and pushed his family away for centuries, leaving his sister in law to raise his children. Good father or unfeeling Bastard???? We shall see....

Born to Bite opens Armand's son Nicholas (Hero of the last Rogue Hunter book Renegade Hunter ) a former Rogue Hunter being held for the alleged murder of a human woman.

Lucian bad ass head of the Council. Is trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together.. could the murder of the human woman be related to the deaths of Armand's wives???
Lucian sends one of his best people to snoop around in Armand's life to try and determine whether he is guilty or innocent. Enter Eshe d'Aureus 6 ft of awesome motorcycle riding enforcer. Eshe can't believe how she feels when she first sees Armand. She is instantly in lust with him. But she is there under the guise of staying at his farm to hid out for her own safety.. as if.. she need help protecting herself.
Armnad is also instantly taken with Eshe, but he know every time he falls for someone they die a horrible death. So he will do his best to push away his possible new life mate.

What ensues is a wonderfully fun story filled with twists and turns, Romance, Drama, Lies and Deception...
I love that you get to see what the past lives of the Argeneau family were like.

And I really didn't see this ending coming O_0

I thoroughly enjoyed Lynsay Sands newest tale of the Argeneau family.
It is like visiting with old friends and catching up on all the new events as well as
Armand finding Eshe a new life mate who was Born to Bite ^..^
If you are a fan of this series you wont be disappointed

Armand Argeneau has, basically, withdrawn from those he loves after the death of his third wife. After growing suspicious about the deaths of Armand's wives, Lucian, Armand's brother, sends Eshe d'Aureus, one of his enforcers to investigate. Unfortunately, Eshe discoveries that Armand is her life mate, but can she trust him?

BORN TO BITE is a very enjoyable, paranormal romance with several amusing scenes and an intriguing mystery. Ms. Sands' trademark humor is evidenced throughout the book. I, particularly, liked the scenes with Bricker, who really livened everything up. Hopefully, he will get his own book. Armand and Eshe are a combustible combination, and I enjoyed the fact that Eshe is no shrinking violet. The mystery surrounding the deaths kept me guessing until near the very end. BORN TO BITE is a great addition to the Argeneau series.

Fantastic edition to Lynsay Sands "Argeneau" series. Armand Argeneau has been a character surrounded by mystery and intrigue. I was never quite sure if he was a "good guy" or not. This book answers that question and many more. Excellent story, excellent mystery, just an all around fantastic book. Read it while the kids were at school with time to spare...

I love Lynsay Sands books, they are easy reads with suspense and plenty of humor. They have a good bit of sex. Perhaps not as hot as Black Dagger Brotherhood or Cat and Bones for example, but good. I really like they way she's tweaked the stories and brought in new characters.

This book of course picks up pretty much right after the previous book as Armand is being investigated about the deaths of his previous wives. Nicholas's return and interrogation have brought doubt about what happened in the past, but details are still necessary to figure out exactly what happened bringing with Armand's first wife's death 500 years previous.

Eshe has been an enforcer for hundreds of years. She's outlived one life mate and never expected to meet another while looking for answers about Armand's past wives. Of course she's determined to find out the truth even after figuring out she has a second chance with a life mate meeting Armand. But something is clearly going on especially as more events start happening threatening her and Armand's life.

I liked both of these two, but the connection here isn't as strong as I've felt with some of the characters in the past. Maybe because most of this book is about Armand's past and trying to figure out what happened to his wives, not about really learning much about Eshe. Their connection relies more on the fated nature of life mates rather than them truly getting to know each other.

On the other hand the actual story was better here. There was a mystery to be solved and things to be accomplished instead of just a happy couple to meet. There were a lot of pieces to be figured out about deaths that happened so long ago their was very little to be able to look into. This series still holds my interest, but it's definitely my choice when I want something light and simple to read.

Setting: Armand’s farm; farms in area;

Theme: sacrificing and protecting those you love; embracing love – the second time around;

Characters:
Eshe d’Aurens: enforcer; 800 years old; found her first lifemate when 30 – had 6 children with him, fought alongside him, loved him for 600 years before he was killed; overall she has had a good life; a bit wild (comes to town in leathers and a big Harley); can’t read Armand, comes to respect him, falls in love with him… lucky her – finding a 2nd lifemate; works to 1st prove his innocence, then to discover who murdered his wives;

Armand Argeneau: tragic life; his 1st lifemate died in a barn fire just after the birth of their son, when he was away with the king; manipulated to marry a 2nd woman, who gave him a daughter, and died in a hotel fire; and a 3rd wife, married for convenience who died in a horse/wagon accident; feeling that at best he is unlucky, at worst someone is out to kill his wives, he sends his daughter to be raised by Marguerite, and keeps his distance from adult Nicholas as much as possible (not going to his wedding), and he hides in the country – moving from one farm to another;

Lucian Argeneau and Lee: sends Eshe and then Bricker then Anders to discover the truth – in part to release Armand from his self-imposed isolation, but mainly to prove Nicholas innocent, saving him from execution (they have 2 weeks);

Mrs. Ramsey: Armand’s housekeeper for 3 years – controlled by someone to take a knife and kill Eshe – given a paid vacation;

Susanna / Althea / Rosamund: Armand’s wives; 1st a lifemate, 2nd a manipulative woman, young, indulged by her parents, who thought he was her lifemate, but after marrying, and figuring out they can read each other, she becomes promiscuous, rude to Susanna’s siblings; 3rd wife, a solid understanding, friends,

Agnes and John (Susanna’s siblings): middle ages, had difficult time accepting truth of nanos and atlanteans and blood, but loves Armand; she turns her sister when she goes to her in the convent and finds her sick; then her sister turned their alcoholic brother when he fell off a horse; John continues to drink alcohol-infused blood to get drunk; Agnes is a bit dotty; she helps to raise Nicholas after her sister’s death; Armand continues to treat them with the high regard of in-laws; they live nearby;

William and Mary Harcourt (Althea’s parents): friends of Armand; live nearby;

Jean-Louise Argeneau: raised by aunt; abandoned by father;

Nicholas and Josephine: waiting to have Nicholas proven innocent of killing a human, and to confirm his wife’s death was murder; or else…

Cedric: Armand’s #1 – since the middle ages; handles the coordination of effort in the running of Armand’s estates;

Summary:
Lucian sends Eshe in undercover (telling Armand she needs a safe haven for 2 weeks); and within a day, Eshe and Lucian realize they are potential lifemates; in conversation, she explores his relationships with his wives, and figures he could not have killed them… and then when Bricker points out she only has his word, she then talks with Althea’s parents and Susanna’s siblings to collaborate; and then Lucian and Eshe become lovers (though Armand still won’t let Eshe tell Lucian the truth);

There are a few attempts on their lives – when Lucian and Eshe pass out in a back shed after making love, the door is jammed and gasoline to feed a fire, and Lucian barely wakes up in time to bust them out – though both severely burned; then the housekeeper takes a knife to Eshe… they are getting close enough to make someone uncomfortable;

Eshe picks up clues from the inlaws memory of the events enough to see that they were murdered, not accidents (earrings when one was supposed to be sleeping; etc); and finally she talks with Mary, the last one to talk with Nicholas’ 1st lifemate, and Mary tells her that her daughter reported seeing Agnes near the hotel (where she later died in a fire)…

And alcoholic John has lured Armand to a new, empty homestead and clunks him over the head once they are in the basement – and ties him up… and then wants to explain what and why he did the things he did… and Eshe, when she realizes Armand is gone with John, goes to Agnes – and when she tells her that Nicholas needs the truth (Agnes did not know that his 1st lifemate died) she drives Eshe to where she believes John and Armand are, and tells her what happened…

She was depressed and tried to commit suicide in the barn… Susana came in, and they argued, and she slashed her sister’s throat, then decided a fire would cover up her deed; she couldn’t stand Althea, who wanted them out of Armand’s life – their only family, she spies on Althea, follows her to an assignation, and when she returns, cuts her head off, and sets fire to her room to cover… then when Rosamund, whom she liked well enough, but was too nosey, was figuring things out, John killed her, cutting her head off, but setting up a carriage accident to look like her head was cut off… and then though Agnes did not know it at the time, when Nicholas’ lifemate was asking questions, John took care of her in a similar manner.

They find the men in the basement… Agnes frees Armand and sends them out of the house, while she prepares to burn herself and John to death… Eshe is about to go back in for them, but…

And the story ends with the family gathering around Nicholas… and Armand getting to hug his daughter for the first time in 100 + years, and shares the memories he has of her only garnered through pictures sent to him by Marguerite, and she hugs him, assuring him he can now be there for future milestones; and then he sits down to tell the story of his wives… and starts with Aunt Agnes sends her love (for she did love them)…

Born to Bite is the 13th book in the Argeneau Series and picks up where Renegade Hunter left off. This book is a PNR with loads of humor, action and interconnecting characters. Sadly, its my least favorite, the reason for my 3.5 star rating. The series is amazing but this book was slow with no depth, a novel but short and the humor between the enforcers was what saved the story.

Born to Bite is the tale of Armand Argeneau and his life mate Eshe d'Aureus who is an Enforcer for Rogue Vampires. Armand has had all of his 3 wives die and Eshe shows up to investigate if he is the murderer, instead she finds her life mate.
The attempts on their life start happening as Eshe is questioning those close to Armand. They fight to survive and to prove that Armand is innocent so they can spend the rest of eternity together among
family and friends.

Einfach perfekt.
Ich bin gespannt wie es weiter geht.

The female lead was strong and independent the male lead was a bit passive. They are perfect for each other. The story did seem to wander around more than some of Sands' books, but still worth reading for the knowledge of who has been killing all the women in Armand's life and causing Nickolas, his son to be estranged and hunted for the last fifty years.

I have enjoyed this series and most of the books were great. However, the last two were mediocre at best (this one too). I am probably done with this vampire romance series.
