I started writing in 2009 and have not looked back. I have many stories in various stages of completion. After receiving too many knock backs to count from agents and publishers, I was ready to give up writing. That was until a friend gave me Switched by Amanda Hocking and said to me "If she can self publish, then why can't you?" So here I am, diving head first into self publishing and not regretting my decision at all. I am not looking to be the next Amanda Hocking, I just want to share my stories with people who will appreciate them.

I really enjoyed this short story! I loved the characters and was able to connect to them right away! Oh the story was just great, just when you think things are going one way, it takes a curve and leads you in another direction! WOW was not expecting that ending! The only bad thing I have to say about this story is that it was too short! lol.. So nothing bad about the book at all! I would have loved to have read more about each of the characters and how they came about and what was to follow..all in all it was a great read, perfect for when you need just a little something to feel a evening! I would recommend this book to everyone! I am looking forward to reading more from Melissa Crowe!

I just finished reading Beast Within by Melissa Crowe. This was a very quick read. I really enjoyed the story. The story starts out with Ian and Karina. They have been together for 5 years, basically in a familiar and predictable rut. Ian and Karina decide to take a break from each other. Once Ian leaves Karina is trying to sort some of her thoughts when she meets Xavier. Xavier and Karina have a instant spark and a part of Karina doesn't understand how she could feel this way in such a short time yet she is tired of being the good girl. Before she can really make a decision Xavier lets on that he knows more about her than what he should being a "stranger". He tells her that she is a Tuatha De Danann which means that she is a fairy. Fairies were known to be extinct yet she has similar attributes dictating that is a Tuatha. Long blonde hair, blue eyed. They are fierce warriors descended from the Goddess Danu. From this point she is not believing him and is freaking out about it but she cannot stay away from Xavier. Who is Xavier? Why does he know so much about her? Will Ian come back and if he does what will she do about him? Choose Ian who is strong and reliable or Xavier, who is the bad boy that could throw her life into chaos? Will she believe in herself and become what she was born to do? You will have to read and see.....

I really enjoyed the story. I felt that it had a strong plot. I liked all the characters and cannot wait to see what becomes of them while this story goes on. I must admit, it ended not how I expected it. To me it was a shock factor.

There wasn't anything I disliked about the story. Everything was given to us about the story for it to not be confusing. I can sense that there is more to come and anticipate whats next!

I have a very mixed feeling in regards to this book. I don't mind short stories as a rule, but this one left me saying okay that's it? I'll try to explain without giving away the book.

Karina is a young woman who has been living with her boyfriend Ian for years. Its begun to stale and he says he wants to take a break. Enter Xavier the bad boy and Karina suddenly finds herself in a world she hasn't a clue about. The action in the book starts fairly quickly and the story moves along fairly well.

It was about a 30 minute read for me so that shows how long/short it is. But I just felt that the Author could have done so much more with the story. It felt more like an outline of what the story is going to be. You don't get a good feel for any of the characters, which isn't unusual in a short story, but in this case I think that it could have been a BETTER short story if she had spent a little bit of time on character creation. Some of the scenes felt forced and didn't seem to have a good flow.

The end of the book comes abruptly and leaves you saying okay what just happened and why did it end there? It seemed to me to be unfinished.

I will say that it was a quick read and a decent story if you're looking for something quick and easy to read.

Details/Disclaimer: Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Review of The Beast Within by Melissa Crowe

An intriguing paranormal with a nicely original twist-very unexpected-“The Beast Within” will maintain reader’s attention throughout. Two hot men-a lovely young woman desired by both-spooky secrets and hinted denouements-and a good balance of sensuality, romance, suspense, and yes, even danger, this novel will keep the reader edgy in a good way.
Karina has been happy with accountant Ian for about five years, when he suddenly suggests she move out, that the two need time away from each other. While she’s working that one over in her mind, the very sizzling Xavier appears and tries of course to pick her up. On his second appearance, he calls her by her middle name, “Tuatha,” and in doing so sends Karina spiraling on a quest for family history, identifying whom and what she really wants at this point in her life-and into situations fraught with potentially fatal danger.

When I received the first book, The Beast Within, I was like oh no Anna, what did you get yourself into reading?!?! I thought it's going to be some crazy paranormal read... Oh how wrong I was. I am glad I did put off reading the trilogy until I received all three of them. They can be read as stand alones, but they are extremely good all together. I seriously stayed up one night reading them. I couldn't put them down...

So the basic run down because if you love mythology, then you will love these books. I'm Irish, so I love how Ireland is the Otherworld... In The Beast Within we are introduced to Karina and Ian. Who I thought was a typical couple breaking up... Oh no. Hot Xavier comes along as soon as Karina and Ian take some time apart. Xavier has some secrets of his own and when he tells Karina what she really is, she doesn't believe him, but slowly does. Then Ian comes back, not wanting to give up Karina... And there is some whole other drama with Ian and Karina that is found out... Oh my!

In the Haunted, Ian and Karina's relationship is threatened even more by crazy dreams and Ian's brother, who can't let Ian and Karina's relationship remain a secret. Ella's new boyfriend, Antonio, ends up not being such a nice guy after all.

And in the Journey, Karina has decided to risk everything, to try to save Ian's life because she loves him. Even if it means traveling across water...

I tried not to give up too much. They are shorter reads. The Journey is a little longer than the first two books. I really LOVE these stories. I love the characters. Oh Ian, risking his life for the love of Karina. And Karina, does the same for him.

All three books, 5 stars. They kept me drawn in with the action and the romance was sensual sexiness. The stories were well written and I'm looking forward to reading more books by Ms. Crowe! ~Anna

I received a pdf copy of this book from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for the review, and all conclusions are my responsibility.

I’ll start by saying this is a short, novella-sized story, only 55 pages, yet there is much packed into those pages. Karina is a psych nurse, rather shy and retiring, who recently ended a relationship with Ian, and is trying to find her new normal. Enter Xavier, a handsome and charming man who sets her life on tilt, encouraging her to question her heritage when he explains her middle name, Tuatha, to her. Cue the overt paranormal flavor of the story, and let the battle for Karina’s heart and life begin.

I enjoyed this story, although the length did not allow for great development of any of the characters. It really feels like a good introduction to Karina, a prequel to her story and discovery of her relevance in the paranormal world as a Tuatha de Danann. That isn’t meant to discount this story, for it does stand alone as a complete work; there is a clear beginning, middle and end.

The writing flowed and was well paced, while there were a few minor spelling/word choice errors that I found, they did not distract overtly from the pacing or the reading. The plot twisted and moved quickly enough to throw up a few surprises, with a particularly satisfying ending. I do want to see more of Karina and her discoveries of her new talents, and hope the author is working to that end.

I had mixed feelings with this book. I will admit I'm not used to reading shorts, so I think part of the problem was how I prefer more details and explanations leading up to story events.

The beginning pulled me in. Karina always goes out with preppy boys, and the lack of passion she finds there is discouraging her. Her preppy boyfriend, Ian, and her take a break. While on this break she meets the bad-boy Xavier. Without giving things away, the story starts by explaining Ian and Xavier in a way that gives you a distinct impression of them both, as well as Karina's feelings and reactions towards them. With twists that involve werewolves, fairies and guardians, in addition to kidnapping, you're left with characters that ended up being the exact opposite. Maybe if it was longer and there were more moments in the beginning with Karina getting a bad feeling about someone, or reacting to something... But the change in personalities took me by surprise. One character surprised me in a good way, while the other disappointed me. The ending was good, though I was left feeling like there should have been one or two more chapters, since it seemed there was a little more to explain.

A mundane life, enters another world......

Does life ever get boring?
Loss of excitement?
Too routine?

Karina thought this....until she met a strong sensual stranger, who intrigued her.
He was more dramatic and rousing than anything she had come to experience before, than any man she had ever met.
It was a chance encounter, in a stunning setting. It awoke feelings that Karina thought were dormant. Passions she had along time past, forgotten how to feel.
Karina and Ian, are a set in their ways couple, but she, unwittingly yearns for more. She lusts for more than she has, until one day she is decides to face her prosaic existence, and takes a leap of faith, whether it be good or bad, and follows her wanton cravings.
Her mere life becomes pure turmoil, and the ride she takes is furious and exquisite.
This is a must read, I will not give any spoilers, as I would hate myself if the readers intrigue was not the same as mine when I had the first pleasure of reading this book.
This book purely beautifully written, had me addicted from the start, and I could not wait to reach the end.
Brilliantly composed! Well Done to Melissa, and astounding paranormal novel, and absolute must for those Twilight, Vampire Diaries, and Shadow Falls lovers!!

The Beast Within by: Melissa Crowe 3.5 Stars

What would you do if one day you are not who you thought you were and the man you love is not who you think he is?

Karina is a young woman who has been living with her boyfriend for 5 years. To her everything in her life and her relationship is predictable and she sees that she and Ian are drifting apart. So when Ian asks to take a break it comes to no surprise to her. She wonders is life will ever be unpredictable. Then in walks the mysterious and oh so hot Xavier. Xavier turns her world upside down and sparks fly, for some reason she cannot stop thinking of him and the passion he brings out in her. He has her questioning her heritage and her unusual middle name.

Enter the world of paranormal where there are fairies, werewolves, guardians, and vampires. This book is a very short read but there is a lot to take in. what you find out about the two men in Karina’s life will defiantly surprise you because not is all as it seems. To me this story just felt like an introduction to Karina and the world she is about to be thrown into. I am very excited to see what the other books in the series have in store for Karina and Ian.

The Beast Within is a novella by Melissa Crowe. Karina is a mental health nurse whose stagnant five year relationship with her accountant boyfriend Ian has just ended. She soon meets the gorgeous Xavier, who lets her know things aren’t always what they seem.

From the first pages of the book I became really comfortable and settled right into the story. Crowe gives the reader a relatable character in Karina. I mean who can’t relate to a relationship that has ended? You immediately begin rooting for her, and even your heart skips a beat with her first interaction with the sexy Xavier!

Although the story is short Crowe gives the reader everything they need; an interesting storyline, a little hot sex, and a huge splash of the paranormal element. She even manages to throw the reader a couple of curves! I didn’t want the book to end; there were hundreds of questions flittering through my mind in particular about Karina and her heritage.

I liked the way the novella ended. It gave closure, but left things open so that we may see Karina’s story evolve. I am really hoping to see a lot more from Crowe and these characters. If you are in the mood for a quick and yet entertaining paranormal read I recommend The Beast Within.

The upside of these enrapturing story is just that, it keeps you enraptured with the need to know more. The downside was the need to know more. I received a free pdf of this short novel to read and review. I can honestly say that I'm glad I did sign up for this story because it has a new spin on the link between supernaturals. However, in bringing those new perspectives, it left me with so many questions. I really believe so much more could have been added as far as detail, build up, and conlusion.

The main character, Karina, finds herself in a downhill relationship that she's unsatisfied with. Then she meets Xavier, a mysterious man that pops into her life, making her feel alive again. She quickly finds herself in a spiral between Xavier and her feelings for her old boyfriend Ian.
But when Xavier starts feeding Karina ideas about who she is, she starts questioning her life. She tries finding answers but she doesn't find them fast enough. Luckily, Karina's ex-boyfriend is there for her and saves her when she least expected to be in danger.

The Beast Within truly is a wonderful short story but one that leaves you with so many unanswered questions.

Karina is at a crossroads in her life, and she decides she needs time away from her boring, mundane boyfriend, Ian. She meets Xavier, a random stranger, and they have a bit of a fling. Xavier knows things about Karina, and at first I thought it was all a little convenient, but everything came together in the end and I understood why he had this knowledge. He tells her she is a Tuatha De Danann, or celtic faerie. Karina's reaction isn't much different from Sookie's, but she places her trust in Xavier—which isn’t such a good idea—and Ian turns out not to be so boring after all.

I don’t know much about the Tuatha De Danann, so all the twists and turns in this novella took me by surprise. Throw in some mean werewolves (or lycanthropes) and there's a good mix of reality and fantasy.

The Beast Within was a short, fast paced read with an intriguing plot, but I was left with some questions that I’m hoping will be answered in the next book.

Due to some sexual situations I recommend this series for readers 18+

What a great little read! I wasn't sure what to expect when I signed up for this on Read2Review. It is short as it is only a novella but the author manages to pack quite a story into just a few pages (less than 80). I read quite a bit of paranormal but had never read nor heard of the Tuatha De Danann, celtic faeries. This by itself was unusual enough for me to give it a shot. Vampires, werewolves (although they do put in an appearance in this one), witches and fallen angels are all the rage. It's getting harder and harder to find a completely original story. I definitely consider this an original.

Also the author doesn't follow your typical romance storyline. This one had some twists and turns that I never saw coming. I have to admit there were a couple of "ick" moments... not gore related but more involving her relationship(s). I don't want to go into it as that would give away a part of the story. But again, the relationships are not what we normally see in other books.

I really enjoyed this one and will watch for more by this author.

The Beast Within is the first book in The Beast Within Series by Melissa Crowe. All I can say is WOW! This book is not what I expected by the summery, it was much better. Karina and her boyfriend Ian break up. She finds him boring and they have been pulling apart from each other. She meets Xavier and he is the opposite of everything Ian is.

Xavier is a professor at the local university that teaches mythology. He comes across as very mysterious and intriguing person. I found it funny that he warned Karina and wanted her to research her middle name. It was as if he was trying to give her a fighting chance.

I really liked the ending up to the last few paragraphs. I get why Karina trusts and loves Ian but if they were having problems before she knew the truth about him what makes anyone think that now she knows the truth things will get better? This makes me wonder what is in store for the next book in the series. At 55 pages, there is a lot of story packed in. If fact I found it hard to believe that it was only as long as it was. It felt so much longer.

Karina's boyfriend Ian of 5 years just told her he thinks they need to take a break. This is something she readily agrees with because for the past 6 months things have felt strained between them. Routine and almost dull.

In enters Xavier a handsome stranger who awakens something in her. He calls her Tuatha after a race of Celtic Fae called Tuatha De Dannan. With Xavier's help she discovers she's one of these legendary Fae.

Xavier awakens her body in ways she can't explain. He has a secret he's keeping that could end up killing her. Can Ian, her Guardian, save her before it's to late? You'll have to buy the book to find out. Don't worry you won't be disappointed.

This is a novella which means that it took me no long time at all to read. I couldn't put the book down. I loved the character Karina and seeing her wild side when it popped out. Thank you for a interesting read. I will be recommending this novella to my friends.

3.5 stars from me!

I usually don’t like short stories, especially if they are broken into a serial. With this book, I have mixed emotions about it because I did enjoy the story, but it felt way too short for me. The book seemed to pass by rather quickly and I didn’t like that aspect of it.

In my opinion, there wasn’t a whole lot of character development, and I think that is because of how short the story itself is. The sex that happens in the story was amazing; there is no doubting that at all. But until the end of the book, there wasn’t that much going on besides the sex. Karina’s character seemed pretty weak to me as well. She seemed like she didn’t even know what she wanted with the way she was going between Ian and Xavier.

Overall though, I think the story was good, I just wish it would have been 1 full length novel instead of broken into parts.

I really enjoyed the series and if you plan to read Journey, you must the first two. With each book, you get to learn more about what Karina is. Although she still wants to do things her way, Ian will always protect her. When I read the first book, I didn't really like Ian to much. Now, LOVE him! And he has brothers. I am still up in the air about all of them.
The end of the book is a WTH! It leaves so many questions to what will happen with Ian and Karina. And if anything does happen to him, I will be distraught. The book has a really great plot along with all the characters.
It leaves me worried..and wanting to read more. You will go through all three books in two days. I could not stop reading the series. I think you will feel the same.
I rate this book a 4.3. All of the series(so far) a 4.4. Pick up the books!

I was teeter tottering reading this novella. Team Ian or team Xavier. Steady and stable or wild and fierce. But then things get a little confusing and I'm like what the heck is going on?? What is her family keeping from her? Why did Grandma just walk away? Why'd they freak over the name? What is going on? And Xander... Is he good or bad? Is Larry insane? So many questions. And boy do I get my answers. They are no where near what I expected and I feel like I've been thrown through a loop but I'm totally digging it. Where can this go from here? What is going to happen next? Can Ian be spontaneous? Will it work out?? I told you... So many questions!!! You know how with some novellas, they are short so you don't feel like you have the background or the depth to really get involved? You don't have that issue here. You get sucked right into this story. Heartbreak. Betrayal. Love. Survival.

WOW! This book really surprised me, but in a good way. The story drew me in from the very beginning and had me hanging on until the end. Very well written, characters are very well developed. Amazing storyline! The detailing in the story made me feel like I was there with them! And the ending??‼! OMG‼ What a twist and I was NOT expecting that! I do not want to spoil it for you all. So go out, get this book, and read it‼ It is so worth it‼ I would definitely recommend this book to anyone‼ I know they will enjoy reading this book as much as I have!

The first book started out a little slow. I was confused at first but then the story started to fall into place and the mystery behind Karina’s true self as a Tautha De Danann became more apparent. Xavier and his deceiving Lycrothp self completely through me for a loop. This is when the story became interesting for me. I love a book that can throw me off guard. Ian, Karina’s Gaurdian and boyfriend, I couldn’t make my mind up about him at this point. He just seemed to be hiding to much information from Karina and yet very protective of her.
Although the first book was short and had an ending that left me on edge I was intrigued and continued onto the next book which had me at page one.

I gotta be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect with these novellas. But like many books I come across I have found I was super pleasantly surprised!

Karina is really uncertain about her relationship and her life. Her and Ian are not where she wants them to be. She is sort of going through the motions of a relationship. Then she meets Xavier and starts to feel and experience things she hasn't before.

Xavier introduces her to who she really is and manages to make life a little more interesting. Actually this book is a crazy ride from the time she meets Xavier until the end...it made me JUMP into the next novella.

Honestly, this series could have been full books I loved it that much!

I give this 4.5 lipsticks!

Prior to my signing on to the tour, I was a bit hesitant about how I’d like the books. However, they turned out to be exceptionally well written and entertaining. There were times in the second book, Haunted, where I found myself re-reading a few pages again to grasp the events that were actually occurring. Sometimes the Haunted, especially was a little too busy for me.
However, Journey honestly redeemed some of the confusion I was left with from the Haunted. My favorite book out of the series was hands down Journey. I felt like the characters grew into themselves at that point and I was able to fully appreciate their individual qualities and their positions within the books.
Overall though, I’d give the series as a whole 3.5 stars!

This is the first novella in "The Beast Within" Series. It is a novella so it is short and a fairly fast read with it being less than 100 pages. While the story was enjoyable it lacked the character build that I love. I didn't feel like I really got to know the characters that well. I also like to be a little surprised about the out come and I saw the things that were coming before they happened and that left me feeling a little less than excited about it. If you just want a fast read that has a good story line and you don't mind a few grammar and spelling errors (a name switch also) then this is the book for you.

"The beast within" is a must read! I loved the story line and all the twist and turns in the book. The reason I gave it a 4 star and not a five is because the characters weren't built enough. I wish it was a longer story that explains in depth about the characters and having the scenes in the book longer. I feel like once a subject was touched it was spoken about briefly and right away moved to the next subject or conclusion. Anyways I loved it I just wish she would have made it longer with more scenes... And I could defiantly think of a few she could have added.

The Beast Within is a great story. I love the concept of the story and the flow of the story is good (it's easy to follow the story).

The characters, they are good and the story, it keeps me guessing on what will happen to Karina and Xavier, if they are meant to be together or not. The way the story ended is great, I love the suspense and all!
