I started writing in 2009 and have not looked back. I have many stories in various stages of completion. After receiving too many knock backs to count from agents and publishers, I was ready to give up writing. That was until a friend gave me Switched by Amanda Hocking and said to me "If she can self publish, then why can't you?" So here I am, diving head first into self publishing and not regretting my decision at all. I am not looking to be the next Amanda Hocking, I just want to share my stories with people who will appreciate them.

Evidently Bella Swan has an older cousin named Nicola and she likey vamps too! Following the same, but more adult, formula of girl meets dark handsome vampire falls in love and has her life put at risk because of said relationship with the hottie bloodsucker First Sight is a quick and compelling read.

This was pure entertainment, nothing new here, and I enjoyed it enough to read in about 4 hours. I liked the characters, Nicola was less whiny than Bella, Vaughan the hunka hunka burning love vamp was more realistic than the simpering Edward (he is a VAMPIRE afterall) and the coven and supporting characters played nicely with the story. The love at first sight ploy doesn't bother me at all like it does some of the other reviewers.

The only true bother I had was the rushed ending as I think the climax could have been strung out to provide more tension.

Overall this is a good book that I would consider re-reading some time and I will certainly look forward to the next installment which seems to be providing a bit of a twist on the tale to come.

I received this book for FREE as part of the read 2 review program with Lovers of Paranormal book club. This is only my opinion and you should read it yourself to see what you think!

I received this book from the Author for my honest review.

In this book, we have a multitude of characters. Nicola is a strong and willful woman who is obviously looking for love in all the wrong places by going out to pubs and drinking herself sick. Then we have Vaughan a vampire who was made 65 years ago at the age of 22. The interaction between these characters happens fairly quickly and their “love” is almost instant, however I didn’t feel the bond as I do with other characters. The other characters in the book are interesting and the way they are written leaves a lot open for future stories regarding those particular characters. Ivan, Genni, Cassie, Bec even Justin all have a story to tell in some way. And I can honestly say I’d love to see more about them.

But back to this story, it is your classic, I’m a vampire, a monster you can’t love me story. Vaughan believes he is a beast; Nicola doesn’t care and loves him anyway. Pretty typical for Vampire books, right? Well not really, since we now have to add into the story the part that Nicola has been a feast for some vampires and has been bitten and drank from but has no memory. Then we add in a love triangle with the crazy vampire who “thinks” she is the one for Vaughan and it makes it more intriguing. Then we add in a vampire who is old, and I do mean OLD. And we have a major drama and mystery to unravel. Why is the coven in town and drinking but not killing? I had never heard of vampires being called a coven before I had always heard them referred to as a nest of vampires but coven works I suppose.

Oops rambling….

Back to my review… I believe that this book has all the necessary ingredients for a good story, and in this case a few books. I think that the story of a vampire wishing to be human is an old one but a good one and in this case it works. This story is NOT about a person changing for another person it’s a story about wanting to be something you’re not, in this case Vaughan does not want to be a vampire (can’t say I blame him though can you, I mean no sunrises or sunsets blah). The little twists and turns as they work out who is behind the coven who drank from Nicola is interesting. There was a bit of fluff and Bec and Nicola go out to various “uni parties or pubs” that I didn’t think was truly needed but it did give you a look at what Nicola’s life was like before meeting Vaughan and how she changes after meeting him.

I do hope that the author continues on with their story but also Ivan and Cassie’s story because I truly believe that one should be written as well. All in all I give this book a must read status… Do go out and purchase a copy for yourself because you will enjoy it.

First Sight is a well written vamp book, supposedly for the YA market (as tagged on Smashwords where I downloaded from), but the amount of drinking in the beginning of this book gives me pause about that. I do understand that it was based in Australia and the laws might be different there, but in the US legal drinking age is 21. The YA market is generally much younger than that (ages 12-18) and I wonder if the drinking sets a good example for that age group. This my main bone to pick with the book, other than that it is a great story. I also understand how the drinking and bar hopping is pivotal to the development of the story.

I must say that the book really didn't sink its teeth into me until around the middle then it didn't let go, I truly look forward to reading more and hope to meet more of the supporting cast of characters and learn their back stories. Much of the book reminded me of Twilight, the personality of the characters and the flow of the story. Not that that is bad because I enjoyed Twilight, but it really did feel familiar. Around half way the book started to separate itself from that and found its own identity. At first I didn't really care for Nicola, I thought she was shallow good looking party girl that cared for little in life than going out. I loved how she changed through the book and grew in character as the story progressed and her relationship with Vaughan developed. By the end of the book I had more respect for her and felt much more fondness for her. I liked Vaughan as well, although I still don't feel as if I know him very well, but I think that adds to his mystery and makes him so attractive. Of all the supporting roles I liked Ivan the most and would love to learn more about him and Cassie.

American readers should note that the Author is Australian and some of the terminology and slang might throw you for a loop for a bit, but not enough to affect your enjoyment of the book. Personally I enjoyed the dialect of the book and though it made it interesting.

For the first half of the book I though it was going to be only 3*, but once I finished I realized I wanted to read and really had enjoyed the story which bumped it up to 4*. Great job, thank you for the copy to review and I look forward to the next in the series.

I purchased a copy of this book from Amazon, and this is my honest review.

First Sight was a quick read, and I enjoyed it for the most part. But, at times I felt it was too quick. I would have liked to see more development in the relationship between Nicola and Vaughan. I am a big fan of insta-love, but this time around it didn’t quite work for me. I wanted to know more about Vaughan, more of his backstory, and why Nicola thought she just had to be with him. I was also curious as to why Vaughan was so drawn to Nicola. This wasn’t really explained. It was more a case of vampire sees human across the room and suddenly she was the one. Why? What was so special about Nicola that Vaughan wanted to go against his nature and be with her?

Throughout the novel I couldn’t help noticing the similarities in the storyline with Twilight. I loved Twilight, and it annoyed me a little that the situations in First Sight were somewhat similar.

Over-all First Sight was an enjoyable read, but I never really connected with any of the characters. The only reason why I’d consider reading the second book is explained in the spoiler above. I hope New Beginnings has more character development, and more romance between Nicola and Vaughan.

NB: This is an Australian book, so although Nicola is 18, her drinking, partying, and general behaviour are perfectly legal in Australia.

I won a copy of this book in a giveaway.

First Sight is a modern vampire romance in which Nicola, a young girl who loves nothing more than to hit the bar every night, is introduced to a unique bar called Ivory. There, she meets the mysterious Vaughn, who (unbeknownst to Nicola) is actually a vampire. Their attraction for each other is instantaneous, but conflict with a rival vampire coven will threaten their relationship.

As several other reviews have mentioned, this book has a Twilight-esque feel to it. I am glad that I am not the only one who thought this. Here are some similarities I noticed: . This did not detract or add to my experience with First Sight ; it was simply interesting.

That being said, Nicola is a more interesting character than Bella was. She is more daring and flirty, and she has flaws (being shallow, toying with boys, etc.) that make her more realistic than Bella, who mostly let things happen to her.

Still, I found it difficult to connect with / relate to Nicola. Perhaps it is because a lot of the emotion in this story is told, rather than shown. I knew what each character was feeling, but I did not feel it myself. Another thing that jolted me out of the story was the grammar, which was riddled with errors such as homonym mix-ups (complement vs. compliment) and punctuation (particularly in the dialogue, where commas and periods were missing all over the place).

I would have preferred more dimensions to the story. The bar was a heavy focus of the setting, too heavy to truly give a proper look into Nicola’s world. The world of First Sight did not feel real to me; I was very aware of the screen of my e-reader. I would have liked to see more tension between their relationship and more development from the characters, especially the more minor ones as well as Nicola’s mother. I am fine with love at first sight provided that it is tested.

My overall impression was that this story was decent, but read like a draft that required polishing.

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I found this book to be a fun read, I liked how the vampire lore was a bit different it had some fun add on's to the already well known vampire legends. Maybe it's because I just watched it but I found myself thinking about True Blood a few times as I read, I mean vampire club owner, vampire employees, the compelling, and also the way they die, but I think I am giving away a bit much. I just had to say they are similar and since I love me some True Blood that was not a bad thing at all.
I liked how average Nicola was she was just a young girl trying to have fun with her face and experience all the things the world has to offer. I liked the people who surrounded her too like her best friend and the siblings that came with her. Her mom was my favorite she reminded me of my mom, she had a cute sense of humor, and I thought they had a cute relationship.
The bar seemed liked a cool place to hang out and I think it was a great place for the two lovers to meet. Yes Vaughan was hot but I dunno I didn't fall head over heals for him. I liked Nicola and Vaughan together but it seemed a little rushed, like they hand out a couple times, she watches Interview with a vampire, he confesses and BAM love, but I am sure they had reasons and I got over it quickly.
The love triangle or what I would call a love triangle was different and I think brought a bit more excitement and especially when one of the people is a crazy love sick vampire. I found the ending a bit blah it was not bad but not great either, although I am curious and I will be continuing on the book two right away as I have that one too.
Lastly I want to say that this cover has a crazy haunting beauty that I liked and kinda fit with the book. so if you like vampire I think you should read this fun book.

I liked this love story. It reminded me of Twilight so I was a little hesitant about it at the beginning. The female character (Nicola) is a young woman who enjoys partying and drinking. She then meets the love of her life, but he seems indifferent. The whole story revolves around these two characters and their love, and the challenges they have to face in order to be together. Nicola has an inner strength that made me like her. Nicola and her friend Bec seem to mature as the story evolved.

I think the story has a lot of potential. Since I am attracted to stories with suspense and drama, this story didn't leave me completely satisfied. I felt the story moved at a very fast pace. It had some action involved, but the drama seemed to get easily resolved. The characters fell in love at first sight, even though Vaughan resists and fights his feelings for Nicola. The problems they had to face got resolved pretty easily. It was a very straight forward story, which is consistent for a short novella like this one.

The copy I received had an excerpt of the next book of the series. I enjoyed reading it and it peaked my curiosity enough to give the second book of these series a chance. I liked the fact that the author's approach to solving this vampire/human love challenge is not typical.

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book that I have been able to "sink my fangs" into by Melissa Crowe. It was an enjoyable read, but I did find something to be lacking. Sadly, I think it was the romance (which is weird to say lol). Nicola and Vaughan just had insta- love and I couldn't feel the connection. First Sight did have a few similarities to Twilight, but that isn't a bad thing and it didn't wreck the story. I loved how Melissa had a fesh idea about vampire bites, I won't spoil the surprise so grab a copy and find out. I did find Firtst Sight to be a quick read, but when I was finished I was left wanting more of EVERYTHING!!i am very curious to see where book two takes us.
At first I wasn't sure if I would like Nicola because of her binge drinking/ alcoholism/ party girl attitude(just my opinion). I find it sad when young people don't give a crap and throw their lives away one drink at a time. But luckily as the story went on Nicola grew up a bit and she started to intrigue me. I really want to know her background and why she has daddy issues. I love Vaughan and I really hope we get to learn more about his 65 years as a vampire.
Very engaging first book in the series! I can't wait to start book two. Vampire lovers NEED to add this book to their collections.

I was given a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review.

Writing: The writing was good. With some Indie books you can run into a problem where there is lots of bad grammar, bad spelling and confusing sentence structure. Not the case with this book.

Plot: Entertaining and moves at a good pace. I did wish there was more courting between the two main characters. They've got that I-just-saw-you-but-my-heart-beats-only-for-you thing. Which I don't dislike but a bit more getting to know you in the beginning would have been nice.

Characters: Nicola is a party girl who seems to find trouble every where she goes. I like her straight forward attitude. Vaughan's got a little "Edward Cullen" in his personality. He refers to himself as a "monster" on occasion and thinks Nicola would be better without him. The supporting characters were good. I hope in book two we learn even more about them.

Altogether an enjoyable fast read. P.s A sneak peak for book two was included at the end. It looks like it might be even better than book one. I like the way the plot was headed.

OMG!!! This story was amazingly written. I was absolutely drawn in from the beginning. I loved the romance between Nicola and Vaughan awww!! The way the author made you wait for them to hook up was awesome! I was on the edge of my seat! I was like come on you have to like her!! lol I also loved the other characters. Bec, Nicola’s BFF, was not one of those weak and whiny characters. Bec did get herself in some trouble at the beginning but she did learn her lesson very fast. I loved that about her. Also I loved that Vaughan’s coven each had a different attitude about dating humans. And when Anna was thanking Nicola she still stayed with her beliefs about the human/vampire relationships. I have to say that I just love that it’s set in Australia. I think that adds to the story even more. I would recommend this book to all vampire lovers and anyone else that wants a great read!!! And I can’t wait for the next books in this series!!!!
Note: This book was given to me from the author (through goodreads.com) in exchange for my honest review. There was no monetary compensation for my review.

I liked this one. There are a few things that I didn't like but thankfully it didn't keep me from turning the pages. The relationship between Nicola and her mom was puzzling. It seemed she didn't care that her 18 year old daughter was partying and coming home drunk every weekend and then sleeping the next day away. I mean her mom would get on her case when she was sleeping all day but that was it. I get that Nicola is 18 and an adult but still. There was no talking about it. She was just so carefree that it was a little unbelievable. Even when Nicola was drugged. On the positive side I did love the Ivory clan and their back stories are very interesting. Gerri was my favorite above all. I also liked the fact that instead of Vaughn thinking to change the love of his life into a vampire he chooses to try and change himself back to human. That element is what makes First Sight different than other vampire books I have read and because of Vaughn's impending journey to Egypt I would love to read book 2 when it is released.

A huge thank you to Melissa Crowe for gifting this in exchange for my review!

I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.

Firstly I would like to thank Melissa Crowe, author of First Sight, for giving me this wonderful opportunity of reading and reviewing this fabulous book.

OH.MY.GOD! Can a book be so great and awesome? Hell, yeah, it obviously is! Don't think less guys, it's really awesome-sauce! I loved the book a lot and I'm sure that ya all will love it too.

What can I say about the writing style of the author, it's remarkable and it really helped me to connect with the characters and the plot as well.

On reading the blurb I thought that it would be a all-the-same vampire romance novel but the author proved me wrong, it's so much more.

The characterization is great and the suspense and mystery that the author introduced in this story really spiced it up.

The romance is pure and the essence of true love is present in this book as well but the author didn't made it overly erotic which would have ruined the plot.

All in all a great read and I would recommend it to ya all and would bet that ya all would love it just like I did.

I was so excited to download this book, who doesn't love a good vampire love story? I have to say at the beginning, I really didn't like Nicola very much. I couldn't believe how she went out drinking almost every night at 18, (with her mom knowing!) until I realized the story was set in Australia and not the US. I do see why the author made her out to be the "party girl", so you can see how she does grow up and matures quite a bit by the end of the book. I fell in love with Vaughan as well in this story! He is always there to protect Nicola, and look out for her, even when he can't be there. There are a few questions/topics I hope the author can cover in the upcoming books:

What's the story with Ivan and Cassie? I want to know more about them!
What's with the mystery coven that comes into town and causes trouble? What do they want?
Poor Bec, will she ever find love?

I'm really anxious for the next in this series! You will not be disappointed with this book, I recommend it!

I liked this read, but it was too short! lol! I wanted it to continue, but I guess it's building suspense for the next one, which isn't a bad thing.

This book points out some possible scary stuff in a teens life, and shows the naivety of Nicola and Bec. (Like the bar hopping, having their drinks spiked by some random footballers, and nearly both getting raped in a back alley. I know many kids go through the bar-scene, just don't be stupid. Not everyone has a vamp boyfriend to save them girls, so don't drink drinks that you didn't get from the bartender yourself, or that you have put down and been out of your sight! Guh goosebumps...vent over lol...and this is not a dig at the book! I'm glad it's in there!)

While there were glimmers to Twilight in the relationship with Nicola and Vaughan, but this book stood it's own ground. (Everyone is going to compare to Twilight because that's the one that got the big break.) I enjoyed the story, and look forward to reading the next.

WOW!!!
I don't know how anyone can give this book less than five stars!!
I found myself totally compelled and immersed in Nicola, and Bec's lifestyle, they are strong characters. Young ladies just really starting out in life, doing the usual .. going out partying, waking up hungover, forgetting which bar they went to and where they ended up. Typical young adults living life to the full... or so they thought.
One evening all this changes, the girls go out and become involved in a totally different lifestyle, shall we say.
Surrounded by stunning porcelain featured girls, muscular Adonis men, pure eyes, full mouths.. how can a girl compete and cope....
This books was so completely addictive, I did not want to leave the story.
The way it has been written, had me thoroughly engaged and wanting more. I really missed the characters when I had to walk away!
Melissa has done a truly enigmatic, indisputable masterpiece. Which the reader will want to drench themselves in.
This lady is a true genius.
Thank you Melissa.

First sight.... I loved it.. I enjoyed the story line very much.. Certain things reminded me of twilight and I loved twilight as well so I have nothing bad to say about that. The reason I gave it a 4 star and not a 5 is because I felt Like the connection between Nicola and Vaughan leading to the falling in love was too quick.. I didn't feel the intense connection between them to say "o wow I fee how passionate they are about eachother " I felt like it was missing that strong connection. Also, I am a bit upset the story was so short I think it should have been longer adding more Love scenes more intensity.. I mean in order to want to change for a person in any way you must have an intensity of love or caring for that individual and I didn't feel swept away by their love. Still I loved it I can't wait for the second book to come out I just hope the second one would have lots more love scenes more intensity and longer please.
Please inform me when I should be expecting the next book ;)

I would like to thank the author for giving me this book for an honest review. It was a fun, quick, vampire story. I liked the main characters, Vaughn and Nicola, but I felt that not enough insight was given about them and their personalities. I would have liked to know more about why they fell in love so fast, and what Vaughn was feeling and thinking when he first saw Nic, instead of them suddenly being in love. A lot of the story reminded me of Twilight, but at least Nic wasn't wimpy and whiny, and it was different enough to keep me reading. I think Nic has a back story about why she was always getting super drunk on weekends, and it would have been nice to know. I think the story has a lot of potential, I just would've liked more details. A fun book for young adult vampire fans.

Nice fast book, which I like. I would like to give this book more but I can't. I'll explain why:-

This is a potentially great author and I really loved how human Nicola is, we all know what it feels like when you party too much and the author describes her perfectly. I loved the very natural language and how descriptive she is about the places.

My buts are that I felt like it needed some more paragraphs, more punctuation. I could feel myself running out of breath trying to read and then having to go back and try again to make it sink in and there were lots of people thrown in all over the place.

Besides that it was a nice story and the writer has a talent. Give me more paragraphs and I'll read the next one. Sorry again.

I want to start with the reason I gave this book 3 stars, while I'm all for vampire books, this one reminded me too much of vampire novels I have read in the past... (Twilight)... I didn't like that Nicola fell for him so quickly and that he seemed nonchalant about it. That bugged me because it was EXACTLY like Bella/Edward... wasn't a big fan of her party girl lifestyle, idk, I know where this is taken place it, it's legal...but still. It's a young adult novel.
But overall, this was written well and it was fun to read. The story did end up changing a bit from what I've read before, which I did like, and I would like reading more about them!

I loved the book.
Nick was the wild girl and Vaughn was the brooding type. But ever since meeting Vaughn and the encounter with the two footballers Nic seemed to mellow. Nick and Vaughn had an instant connection, but the way he seemed intent on ignoring her drove her crazy. I love (but do not advice) the way Nic got Vaughn attention.
The book was well written even with the few mistakes, and was lovable. The two main characters pushed the stories although there were some similarities with another book (Twi-something) I still think that the book was able to hold it's own.

I enjoyed this book. the story flowed and the writing was great. It felt like an everyday occurence which is great, but not so great at the same time. With the resistance Ivan and V (can't remeber how to spell his full name) I expected so much more action. And I expected so much from Nic's character.

Maybe the next one will 'quench my thirst'. I'm looking forward to reading it.

SYNPOSIS:  Nicola Grainger appears to have it all, is is young, beautiful and gets whatever she wants. That is until she meets the mysterious and troubled Vaughan.
Vaughan is a 65 year old vampire who wants nothing more then to be human again. He loathes those who abuse the life they are given, the one he wishes he could lead.
The two enter a forbidden relationship that sees them trust into the middle a vampire turf war with Ulrich and his rival coven. Loyalties are tested who will survive.

Review: I chose to review this book because vampires duh. I'm in love with them. So this book has a lot of exciting aspects to it. First a vampire love story is gonna catch the eye. There was action and suspence with both the war and the romance parts in the book. And it made you believe in love at first sight, which I believe in one-hundred percent.
Now with the whole everyone-is-drop-dead-gorgeous in the place thing should have given someone a clue, there are not that many beautiful people in one place with out one ugly ducklings. But all in all i found this book enjoyable.

So I give this Four****stars because it lackes realistic common sense. But that is all i found wrong with it. The story line was great.

QUOTES: My mouth went dry and I'm sure I stopped breathing. He was the most person i have ever seen. (Love at first sight)

My attention turned back to the bar. "He's perfect" I whispered and now heard the hammering of my erratic heartbeat in my ear.
