This was a guest review I did for Yummy Men and Kick Ass Chicks....

My Review:

This book has a fabulous premise. There are nine cousins who are the grandchildren of the original Gods of Olympus. These demi-gods have been forbidden from using their powers to aid humans...a thing that goes against their very nature. As a result, they have banded together to try to use their powers in the human realm, helping humans wherever they can, but they are doing it on the sly, trying to keep it hidden from the gods.

For now, they are working on a very small scale and the grandson of Eros (Cupid) is in charge of their presence so far. They are centralized out of Titus's tattoo studio, Love Ink. Here he has infused a select few tattoos with magic so that the wearers can connect with their one true love. But something has gone wrong and a couple of those humans that have received this tattoo start showing up dead.

Investigating the murders is Derek, who has a bit of his own magical powers. He sees and feels things. He doesn't realize it, but he's actually a descendent of an Oracle. He may not know this, but Titus and his cousin Kyros can see the truth about him and his powers immediately. Derek is a man with a depressing, sad love life. After being betrayed, he has shut himself off from love. Both Titus and Kyros can see his pain through his black aura. But Titus sees something else too...he sees a man that he knows he can fall in love with, if he can keep him alive.

To complicate things, there is another race of people who are "bad-guys"....the Prometheans. This race of people are working to steal the gods powers. They already have Prometheus enslaved, but after thousands of years like this, he is faltering. They need another source of power.

It seems a little complicated, but it's really not. Like I said, I really like the premise and I loved the glimpses of all the cousins when they are together...it promises to make for a fun series. The cousins that are part of this group are not ALL of the cousins...they are just the gay ones. ;o) They bonded together through that commonality, plus the lone female in the group, Krystal, and Zil who is the twin to one of the gay ones.

This book focuses on Titus and the detective, Derek. While I loved both of them separately...they are both great strong characters...I wasn't a big fan of them together. For me, their sweet-talk was over the top and was just too much for me, to the point that it would distract me from the story when they were getting all lovey-dovey. And lovey-dovey is definitely the correct phrase for the two of them together once they discovered they were falling in love. For me, that was the only sticking point with this book. I definitely don't plan to write the series off because of it. I'm hoping that it was just a personality trait for these two guys, because I did enjoy the story.

Giggle-worthy quotes:
"Besides he might be straight."
"He's not straight."
"You think everyone is gay." It was a game he'd played with Kyros for most of their lives. Kyros never faltered from his belief that every attractive man in the world was available to his bed. Only the most unappealing males made his list of straights.

This book started out so strong and interesting, and then suddenly it was insta-love, baby this, sweetheart that, a wealth of world-building wasted, everything rushed except the smut, which seemed to go on forever and was far too cheezy porn/purple prose for me.

I wish the book had focused on the story elements, on the murder mystery and the demi-gods defying everyone, and built a slow-burn romance throughout. Instead it feels like it was all built up then wham, bam, rushed through and all the lovely potential thrown in the trash and set on fire.

So massively disappointed, because the start was goddamn gold.

I love mythology and romance. So this book combines both, I am in love already. The author creates this universe with a tale we know but with a twist on the truth of who chained Prometheus. Titus is trying to live and help the humans find love. He is of a new generation trying to fit in society and not live in fear of the human hunters who want their power. However, there is an unforeseen enemy that is attacking which draws Derek to Titus, there is an instant connection between them. Derek is a special kind of human and Titus does not know of to follow his heart for love or his brain that says danger. They are forced to work together that pushes their passion to the front. I liked where this series is going and want to see more stories of this couple of how they are progressing or other gods.

Immortals and Prometheans

A paranormal story with murders and sexy romance. Based on Greek mythology, gods and demigods are at play here. The grandson of Cupid, Titus Love has opened up a tattoo shop where he can mesh magic with ink in tattoos. It's specially designed to lead a person to his true love! But things go awry, when the men with special tattoos and up murdered. The investigating officer, Derek has his special powers, and he can sense the divinity at play. But they are being hunted by a manic killer with help from the powerful Prometheans, who have long wanted the gods gone from this world.

The storyline is cool and I enjoyed the beginning a lot, but once the sex started it devolved into 'not good' zone for me. There is scope for more if written better. Hopefully the next one in series turn better.

I really struggled with how to rate this book because there were elements of this that were really fun and unique. You could tell the author really knew Greek mythology, and the idea of the tattoos, the Prometheans, and the writing of the villain were all compelling and creative. But the execution was just so lackluster that it dragged everything down. I found myself reading it and just thinking about ways it should have been revised or rewritten to improve it. The pacing was awkward and uneven, the dialogue was stilted and cheesy, and the descriptions were so over the top it got to the point of making me cringe a few times as I was reading. So even though it was a quick read with some great ideas, it's not a series I'll continue or a book I'd recommend to others, unfortunately.

3.5 Stars.. This story has oracle's and demi gods and all sorts of powers flying around. The story has the murder identified in the first chapter but its a leader into more dramatic plot. An enjoyable story to read, but you must read with an open mind. I loved the zing between Derek and Titus when they met and as they worked to solve the murder.
Detective Derek is investigating a suicide but Derek's e.s.p. feelings are saying murder. The victims are all involved around the Ink Shop. Derek doesn't believe in love, friends don't count either.
Titus is a demi Greek God who loves playing match maker by using his tattoos he applies.

Mythology and murder

Quick read, mixing the stories of the Greek gods into a police investigation into a death. A demigod tattoo artist meets his fated love while participating with his cousins in modifying the old order. Nicely plotted with ample details, there's almost enough heat. A clever and entertaining read.

As I am a gatherer of books, I collect books and ebooks from a variety of sources: Goodreads wins, Bookhub, BookFunnel, emails from authors and publishers, and others. I do lose track of their sources. But, as a reader, I feel I should give an honest, unencumbered review for all I read.

Being a big fan of Mythology I had high hopes for this story. While the story started out great I didn't get that same excitement I had at the beginning through out. Too many characters made it confusing at times and it felt like the story jumped around rather than have an easy flow. In the end I liked it but I didn't fall in love.

I need more!!!

This is so freaking good. Gods, demigods, tattoos, power, love, and suspense. You can tell the author did his research. I love how he kept to the base facts while creating his own direction and having a solid explanation for the difference. I can't wait to see where this goes next.

As a reader of many many romance and erotic romance and erotica books I have, until now, only read male/male interactions in the form of MMF menage (ok occaisionally more M's than 2 but still there's always been 1 F in the group). So I didn't know if straight M/M (pun intended) was gonna do it for me but I thought since I enjoyed Kris Cook's other books that Cupid's Arrow would be my first. What I discovered was as much as F/F does not work for me Cupid's Arrow with it's two sexy Alpha heros hits all the right buttons.

As a fan of Greek/Roman mythology I very much liked the premise of the story and Kris's protrayal of the group of young demigods was a fun twist, I might like to be Krystal for a while. Titus and Derek are both strong masculine characters which made them and their interactions captivating while adding to the storyline as a whole.

I think Kris did a great job with Cupid's Arrow and I look forward to reading more about the group of demigod cousins in the future.

I'm going to be generous with the 3 stars. The premise of this story was intriguing, but the execution failed. The stilted writing told me versus showed me, and OMG if I had to read the words "sexy beast" and "dear immortal" one more time, I was sure to claw my eyes out. It was like reading about two lovesick puppies with the back and forth compliments.

This is obviously a series in the making, with the other gay demigods finding their true love and gaining power from their relationships, all in an attempt to free Prometheus from his captors. Like I said, a very interesting plot line, but I don't know if I can stomach another story.

Cupid's Arrow is the first book in a new series by Kris Cook. If you are a fan of Male/Male, then you must get this book.

Derek and Titus are wonderful main characters who grab at your heart and pull you in on the first few pages. Many other familiar names from mythology will be found in this book as well and I can't wait for the second installment with Cole and Michael.

Congrats to Kris on writing another amazing book. Keep writing my friend and I will keep reading.

3.5/5

For all its worth, I actually like this book. Its best quality was the great writing. It was so amusing to read. The plot could use some refinement, but it was still enjoyable!! The characters are lovable - XD

It felt like the story was over too quickly, but I guess you get and what you get. *shrug*
Still a fun read nonetheless.

Mythical and intense

I loved the way the author mixed mythology and reality. The Gods and Demigods were both more relatable. The storyline was intriguing and thought provoking. I kept trying to figure out where it was going and what would happen only to be unable to. Great read! I can't wait to see what comes next!

I've read other books by this author that a pretty good. This one is not.

The plot moves forward in jumps and starts where things suddenly happen, characters suddenly change, and problems are suddenly resolved, all without proper explanation. The story is somehow both too fast and too slow. It makes the story unbelievable, the characters seem inconsistent, and the ending anticlimactic.

Fun read

This was an interesting twist on the myths and legends of Olympus. Titus and Derek are great, the chemistry smoking. The plot is moderately paced and action packed.
