Berit is afraid to be sent to Africa as a missionary. She wonders if God likes denim hats. She feels safe with the Pentecostals, because they don't cry that much. Kristi Furubotn's first novel is about a young girl who in 1975 comes to a village in south-east Norway to go to high school there. A central part of the book is her relationship to religion.
