First things first!

The MC's female colleague, Vio, not only loves to woo the ladies, she has these very light blue eyes that make you feel like she knows what you're thinking when she locks them onto you, close cropped white blond hair and the sort of face and attitude that commands respect, or fear, or a little of both.

So I gotta ask...Tabatha, you bad ass, that you?

Exit himself, the MC of Exit Strategy, is an echoback boy. He looks like a human boy from a distance, but when you get closer you'll notice tiny differences. Like his tail. Luckily this has never caused me much reason for concern IRL, but tails don't really do it for me. And that's not all, because Exit also...no, wait!

I recommended this book to Heather and Vivian, since I thought it resembled The Last Pure Human, a WIP they both loved. Both are free reads with an uncomplicated plot, in which the MC's become sex pets and have large quantities of fluffy (but graphic) sex, in which tails play a kinky little role. Then Vivian pointed out that she didn't like that Exit is so dumb (that's saying something, considering that Max from the LPH wasn't exactly the brightest bulb in the box either) and Heather mentioned that Exit, unlike Max, doesn't put up a fight at all when he's enslaved. And apart from that, there's zero romance in Exit strategy.

And I can only agree! Basically, what we have here is a dumb and sluttish MC, who goes on a secret mission, but gets captured by an exceptionally handsome pirate captain with deep caramel skin and dark chocolate colored eyes and is appointed as his new sex slave. From then on he has to share a hut on the ship with the captain's other pet.
Exceptionally handsome or not, I can think of a few things I'd have issues with if I were the MC - I'd probably end up being keelhauled - but nah-ah! Not Exit! He's totally cool with being made into a sex pet without his consent. So cool with it in fact that, when the captain doesn't immediately has sex with him, Exit sulks; "What's wrong with me? You keep playing with me, making me think you want more. I mean, that's what I'm here for isn't it?"

GAH! This just isn't a winning combination for me. Nothing intriguing happens here. Not even a little friction or danger to spice things up. There's no character-development. Exit's never put through the wringer. There's simply nothing that makes me, as a reader, root for him and bite my nails, or experience a tsunami of feels. It's all very go-with-the-flowish and bland. The same applies to the plot-line; which is the sort of straight forward fantasy tale that you forget about as soon as you're finished.

I'm not much of an expert on manga, but I think this story would've worked way better in the form of yaoi. Still, this will definitely be a fun, free fluff 'n sex-fest for many readers and I recommend it as such!

Straight 5 stars! Awesome world-building, amazing characterization and a mighty good plot.

I have just finished it and am still reeling from the emotional turbulence. Felt like I have been emotionally keel-hauled for good. The author is real good at prodding you at all the right places producing the all the right responses he/she wanted. At one time, I actually felt like I have a dick! Cos that blowjob was just out-of-this-world for me. Yes, the sex and 3some was good.

It's kinda weird that I could feel so much for a fictional fantasy world character. I can't believed I truly felt every single emotion he felt and even experienced intense heart aches when he got his heart broken or whenever he faces dangers. He bleeds, I bleed.

And damn Exit for his bleeding heart! He could be real frustrating at times cos I cared too much about him and he knows it! Or at least the author knows it. You evil being. Lol.

At first, when I started reading this book, I was thinking this is just going to be those same ol' formulaic fluffy fantasy romance story. Not expecting that the twisty roads ahead could turn this story into an amazing sexy adventurous pirate romance story that I never wanted to end.

It's a journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance, love-hate, brotherhood, family politics, romance, test of loyalty on the sea.

To sum it up, this book made wished I am a gay boy with an erogenous tail too. Hell, I got turned on each time at the mere mention of Exit's tail. O.o

This story is going to stay with me forever in my heart. <3

And this book should be published. It 110% deserved to be.

"Vio's right, I am a slut. I should be glad my captor isn't trying to have sex with me, but I'm just annoyed he's not.

Rollocking pirate m/m and m/m/m with a very willing captive. Fabulous, with a bittersweet ending.

4 stars plus 1.

This was so much fun! A great story, fantastic world building, and actual real character growth. I was very surprised by the ending as well. Usually when the hot boy gets abducted by the manly pirate, there is some smoking sex (which this also has in spades), a battle at sea, and a HEA for the pirate and his boy. Here, it's different. It leaves the way open for a sequel, which I will totally read, but it's not exactly a cliffhanger.

Things are resolved, as well as they can be for now, What I liked most about this is that Exit isn't running from a bad situation and falls in with a bunch of pirates who turn out to be the solution to all his problems. Exit's got friends at home who love him (and I really wanted to see things progress with Vin). Whatever the outcome, either his old friends or his new ones were going to get hurt. It made the ending very bittersweet.

It's online fic, so in parts it could really use an editor to tighten things up, but the sheer energy of the story made up for any issues with pacing or typos I had. If this was a professionally edited work and traditionally published I might have dropped it a star for that, but I didn't. While a traditional publisher might have fixed a few of the issues, the creativity and exuberance of this story more than make up for it.

This story has such a great cast of supporting characters. I loved Vio, particularly, but the extra star is for the Admiral, who was crazy awesome and hilarious and makes me want to be a pirate wench. I don't care if he's in his seventies. The man can shiver my timbers any time.

Huh... That is my impression after finishing this looong book.

On one hand it has many many elements that I love. I adore M/M sci-fi/fantasy books, and I love a good fluffy, fun, sex-filled alien story (What?! You know you love them too!). This book was these elements to a T. On top of that, the author did a great job of creating unique characters and an interesting world.

What's my problem then? Aside from the editing issues that I often see in free online books, there is the little issue that there is no romance in this story. Exit, the main character, goes from one sex-relationship (not romance) to the next. At first, I tried to pin down who he would end up with and who would become the romantic lead. After a while, when it became apparent that no one would be the romantic lead, I just read the story for the sex and the fun characters. Don't get me wrong, there is merit in that alone, but it is not what I expected when I went into this story. I'm also not into menages and this has a lot of them. Call me old-fashioned but I prefer monogamy with my interspecies alien sex! Alas, it does not measure up to my favorite tail-possessing alien book, The Last Pure Human. I much prefer the humor and romance in the The Last Pure Human, something this book was sorely lacking for my taste.

Solid 4.5 stars. There were some pesky editing errors throughout this that kept distracting me, but what a fabulous story. It took me a few chapters to become a part of this world, but once I did, I was hooked.

Exit is an Echoback, which is sort of like a monkey, but not a monkey. Sort of a cat, but not a cat. I'm not totally sure what exactly he is, and I found myself trying to figure out his physical appearance pretty much every scene where it came into play. He has a tail, which is the biggest difference between him and the humans. He grew up in an orphanage and was raised as a human. He had never met another Echoback before. Though he has to pretty much hide his tail, it is one of the things that makes him such an asset to his job where he is basically their personal cat burglar, or is it monkey burglar?

There are also Visks, which are lizard people who don't have sex, other than to breed. This is quite the opposite of Exit, who is a bit of a sex fiend.

As for the actual story, there is so much to sink your teeth into. Exit is planning on being kidnapped, but not being taken as the Pirate Captain's pet. These are not swashbuckling pirates, other than they do crew a sort of pirate ship and they do plunder other boats. Exit's mission is to gather evidence against the pirates.

I won't go into any more detail, but, suffice to say, a lot happens. Exit meets other Echobacks and finds freedom in a land where he is allowed to let his Echoback side show. He runs into trouble quite often, usually with the help of the Captain's other pet, Topher. There are a lot of endearing characters in this story, and some others who are pretty awful. While this was a pretty long book, I flew right through it and jumped right into the next one.

I also have to add that I really enjoyed the A/N's, or author notes. Often, one would suggest if you wanted to learn more about, for example, Exit's time in the orphanage and how he lost his virginity, feel free to read such and such. Others would just explain where a certain term came from or its actual purpose. I found these quite interesting.

Exit captured me from the first word and kept me enthralled to the last.

This endearing, slightly naughty, young man is an Echoback. The only one of his kind in the city. One year out of the orphanage where he was brought up, recruited to be a spy of sorts because of his special attributes and subsequent abilities, he's quite content with his life.

Being kidnapped on his first real mission was not something he was prepared for, but Exit simply rolls with the punches! Hey, he's a young horny guy, his pirate captor is a serious hottie as well as a "gentleman", Exit becomes anxious for the sex-slave part to begin.

There's pirate stuff, slave stuff, evil baddies... fun times! Exit even gets to learn some of his own peoples history and culture, meeting other Echobacks during the course of his adventure.
Then KA-BOOM. Exit must make a choice.
Don't even try to guess!

As for the romance? Perfect for those who are looking for unique and not tidy!

Ahhh good times, good times!

It is pretty rare that an author sees his imaginary world and his characters so clearly that it seems he describes a parallel universe that could really exist. What is even rarer is when he managed to sustain our attention with an interesting plot and to make his characters so endearing that we want to know them more. Even Topher is the kind we like to hate. ;)

This is the case with this book. It was long since I had brought my Kindle with me to the toilet room to continue to read there. XD

So even if there is a lot of petty mistakes, I give it 4½ stars rounded up to 5.

Pirates, adventure, and social commentary--WINNER! Beware...part one of three and the ending is more of a hook than an end. Sail on-->Part 2

Yar. What better book to read for ‘Talk Like A Pirate Day’?

Exit is so sweet. He’s young, he’s cute, he just kinda goes along with whatever. Climb up a building to break and enter and steal company secrets? What? He can do it. His tail helps him balance, after all.

His TAIL???!!! Say what?

And you know how much I LOVE extra appendages!!!

It’s a tale about a tail. Exit is an echoback, he looks human except for his eyes and his lovely prehensile tail. So handy. um.

Especially when his boss sends him on a job about pirates pirating valuable shipments of fuel. It turns out Exit may have missed his calling; he’s made for sailing. That tail sure comes in handy when your job is climbing the rigging.

So when Exit gets kidnapped by the very sexy pirate Captain Quint-- who likes a tail for many different reasons-- he finds a new life on the open seas. And he finds his loyalties divided.

Quint also takes Exit as his pet, well, to make up a set of pets. Topher (no tail, he’s human), Quint’s other pet, is not happy to share his boytoy privileges, though. There’s lots of bratty bickering and petty squabbles, but… even Topher finds the love for tail and eventually comes around. Again and again. Yes, there is some lovely, kinky, three-way action.

This was loads of fun. And I love Exit. Who continually falls into trouble but somehow makes the best of it. The ending, however, is bittersweet as Exit finds himself caught between two lives and two cultures. He feels loyalty to his homies but, hey, the bad-guy pirates never, ever make him hide his tail away…

I really hope things are more settled for Exit in the next book.

(this is online free fiction, so no editing in sight, YIKES!!! But that didn’t stop me from reading. Yar.)

A fun kidnapped-by-pirates tale that felt light-hearted when I was reading it but on reflection had a surprising depth. The writing is excellent and the characters are sexy, especially Exit who has simian qualities like a prehensile tail.

This is a little nitpicky of me because the story had a lot of action, but it did drag a little for me in the middle. Not for long though - it picked right up again soon. A lot of my enjoyment of this book was simply enjoying time spent in Exit's company as Exit enjoys his pirates. :)

This story is a tale of adventure on the high seas. Exit is an echoback (humanoid with a tail), the only one of his kind, after being raised in an orphanage is Parnell. He works as a junior investigator for the Municipal Works, as his ability to climb anything and see in the dark give him a distinct aptitude to espionage.

When he turns over vague evidence to show that a foreign country is paying pirates to hijack their shipments of coal, Exit, along with his senior partner Vio, are told to become part of the coal freighters crew, and to find evidence pointing to the truth of the matter. As expected, the freighter is attacked by pirates, but what is unexpected is that the pirate captain decides to keep Exit as a personal 'pet'.

As Exit becomes part of the pirate ship's crew, he comes to care for the pirate captain, as well as the captain's other pet Topher, and the sailor Tallis, who is the first echoback he has ever met. Sailing with the pirates also provides Exit not only with some dangerous adventures, but also a place he feels truly accepted for who he is. Of course, it also means he has some tough decisions to make too; where do his loyalties now lie? With the Municipal Works or with the pirates?

P.S. As is often the case with online fiction, there are a number of typos, spelling errors and incorrect homonym, such as your/you're, and also president/precedent. If these drive you batty, then it may not be the best choice for you.

This was not a romance in the strictest sense, and the end was bittersweet. Exit, our main character, is interesting and I loved his adventure even if it didn't end the way he wanted it to. I am looking forward to see what happens in the next installment.

There was a lot of thought put in and parallels that could be drawn to our own world with regards to slavery and society.

The sex was hot and though the feelings seemed to be forming... well. You need to read the book!

This free-online story gets 5 stars for awesome-weirdness and 1 star for grammar/editing. I was re-writing entire sentences in my head as I was reading. But I REALLY loved the pirates-in-an-alternate-world-and-slutty-boys-with-tails strangeness.

There was so much potential here. All of it wasted.

The tail and its many uses. Wasted. I enjoyed it wasn't forgotten when putting on or taking off clothes or for hanging on to things. It was even occasionally used in sex scenes but it could have had so many more applications. I can understand Exit had been raised more as a human than Echoback but he hardly used his tail.

The kidnapping. What a disappointment. I was expecting reluctance and dubious consent. Instead Exit couldn't wait to get a personal feel for the Captain and later on, Topher. The rules for pirates and their slaves were ridiculous and downright stupid at times (who gets punished for a rule they didn't know about?! - namely frolicking without the consent of the master). In fact, now that I think about it, there was hardly any forced situation at all. Exit was treated well, fed well, taught to sail a boat, lavished with presents and permitted to develop his sexual relationship with Topher.

Interesting background (with Visks and a pretty developed world) but nothing to back that. After a while I got annoyed with Exit's flimsiness and constant hoping from one male interest to the next. Then I got annoyed at the pathetic logic and reasoning used to explain some of the action. By which time, I felt too numb to even criticise the many... many, many, many grammatical errors and editing mistakes. I felt no connection to Exit and despite the fact that this story ends on a HFN with direction for book 2, I stopped here. It was more than I could bear.

3.5 rounded up. It was definitely not what I expected going into it - I thought there would be more angst, drama, and dark themes. What could have been dark situations were fluffed up. It felt more like light kinky play than anything dangerous.

There were a few scenes that didn't feel entirely cohesive, and some things that could have been described better, which is where it lost a star for me.

I didn't like Exit at first, but I felt like his character improved as the story progressed.

It was quite a bit more fluff than I anticipated, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!

Okay, so this story was simply awful. I know this is a free online fic, so I don't expect it to be completely free of typos and the like. But the least you can do is run spell check, it's free and doesn't take long. The author clearly couldn't be bothered to, making this very hard to read at times.
I can't stand Exit. He's incredibly stupid and behaves like a thirteen year old. I think his horniness destroyed his brain or something. I mean, he gets kidnapped and has to face a life as a sex slave. Instead of being worried that his kidnapper might actually seriously hurt him or abuse him, he sulks because he doesn't get fucked asap by his incredibly handsome kidnapper.
Oh, kidnapping is fine, btw, as long as you don't treat your victim too badly. Clearly, owning human (or echoback, in this case) pets is perfectly fine as long as you don't abuse them.
There was absolutely no world building. I'm still confused about the different species. I didn't even realize that Exit isn't human and that that makes him a minority for quite a while.
Other than that, the plot was just boring. It was all very predictable and there was WAY too much sex.

Unusal, and like many free online fictions, as well written as many paid books. Unique main character is a beautiful humanoid youth called Exit. He's one of the echoback race, and human men find him attractive and desirable. Echobacks have tails, and are very strong, small and agile. Exit is the only one in the city of Parnell (think London, ca. 1900s). His skill with climbing has landed him a job as an investigator for the Municipal Works. Despite his youth, and rather indiscriminate libido, Exit finds himself on an important undercover assignment to uncover pirates.

This is more of an adventure/pirate story than a romance. The world is very interesting - there are at least 2 other types of humanoids besides humans, the society is pretty modern (has electicity, trams, cabs and rich cities have indoor plumbing) with the major corporations using all available means to undermine each other, including having a division of spies. The main character is not human and his special talents make him one of the people sent to investigate the actions of a rival organisation. He stirrs the interest of a pirate captain and things only get more complicated :)

Fantastic world building and wounderful array of characters. Too many love interests introduced though. I'm a romantic at heart and do love a happy ever after for all parties involved. It doesn't happen in this first part and I'm not sure if it will by the end. Of course I don't know what the future holds. I love a free read and gobbled this one up. I'm off to read the next part.
