Jane, Toby, and Andy take on more than they can handle when they answer a help-wanted ad and find themselves responsible for cleaning and fixing a huge house in preparation for its owner's return
"Emily Chase" was the pen-name used by a number of authors who contributed to Scholastic's Girls of Canby Hall series, about a group of girls living at a New England boarding school. Amongst these contributors was romance novelist Julie Garwood.
This is book 26 in the Girls of Canby Hall series. This one has the girls staying at school for one month extra and trying to find a job. They have major problems due to their age and lack of experience. Finally there is one job found and that is preparing a house for the owners return. Jane wants to take the job but Andy and Toby are reluctant at first but eventually agree. None of them realize just how much of a job awaits them, however. They are not use to work that is that difficult and they run into various problems which causes them to lose faith that they will even get the job done in time.
Friends can make a major difference, of course, but they are still up against a deadline. A good story about young teenagers taking on some of the responsibilities of the adult world and finding out just how difficult that can be.
