Ableism, whether indirect or not, is encountered in a number of industries and results in the mistreatment of neurodivergence folks. The safe house frame work provides an index of diagnostic criteria and highlights the dynamics of individual support needs.

Here, we see the application of practical theory and techniques into medical and educational spaces to aid neurodiverse minds. Socioeconomic factors and environments are also accounted for throughout the framework.

Jones writes from a from a clinical perspective, but the application of majority of the safe house frame work can be applied to classrooms, 1:1 tuition and any tasks that may be performed in the public sector. The main goal is to reduce the overwhelming stigma and misinformation about neurodiversity.

I am a strong believer in allyship and building an accessible and supportive space for everyone. Literature such as this should be considered as mandatory training for workplaces and taught on a broad level in education. Learning and practising how to self advocate is an important lesson so finding a publication that does this so well makes me hopeful!
