Dancing with Deception (Book One in the Avery Family Saga)

When Rebecca Channing promises to hide a mysterious painting known as 'The Dance' for her estranged father, she wants only to gain an ounce of affection from him. Instead, she finds herself running for her life, trying to elude two brutal men who will stop at nothing to catch her. Rebecca has to keep them from taking the painting—and her life.

Cornered on a pier, and feeling desperate, Rebecca leaps into a moving boat. She's safe, but for how long? The ship's captain, Gideon Avery, won't let her jump ship and Rebecca is trapped. Gideon is as hard and ruthless as any sailor, but he offers to help her when no one else will.

He whisks her away to his island and his family takes her in, giving her the love and affection she'd been denied all her life. Her pursuers, however, are relentless. Soon, it becomes evident that the painting was only a cover and what they really want is Rebecca.

With time running out and the thugs hot on their trail, Rebecca must fight to protect those she has come to love and her heart.

This story grabbed me by the throat after the first sentence. And the action kept coming. I felt for Rebecca and cheered Gideon on through his journey to steal her heart. What a pack of hunks! I think I may have drooled a little. Am I the only one who wants this to be a movie so I can see Gideon and Colin Avery shirtless? Please?

The ending blew me away. The dialouge was just fun and real. Loved the book and can't wait for the next one.

While I've never been much of a fan of romance novels, Kadi Dillon's Dancing with Deception is my exception. Great story line, great suspense and you cant help but imagine what those Avery boys look like. Cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

A suspense filled romance with oodles of action. A fine thread of romance was also woven throughout, with likeable characters and a great storyline.

I enjoyed all the characters put forth in this story. Kadi has certainly given us baddies to dislike, a mother I wasn’t to overly fussed on, and Gideon - He will make you more than just giddy ;) A handsome - gentleman, a bit rough but caring in all the right ways.

A wonderful free read via Amazon. I will certainly be reading more of this authors work for sure.

I was hooked within the first few chapters and read this is one night.

A few laughs along the way, twists and turns, and certainly enough to keep the reader intrigued to read till the very end.

An enjoyable storyline, I loved the family closeness of The Avery Family - kind of made gooey inside, at such a close nit family, but also sad for Rebecca and her family circumstances and why things became about.

Rebecca's character was certainly kick arse - I immensely enjoy a strong female lead, and Kadi certainly had no qualms in delivering her to us. We did see Rebecca's softer sides, but on a whole I really enjoyed how Kadi defined her.

Overall, a little bit of lovin between the sheets. The chemistry between Gideon and Rebecca was sweet, and passionate . No detailed love scenes but enough to give us that love story we all like to read.

Brothers I’m sure you will lust for, and a compelling romance with action and suspense woven throughout. !

This was a great, romantic, easy-read! I just loved all the characters. The Avery family reminds me so much of my own and how much we love each other and are so close. Gideon is sexy and kind of mysterious, and you can't help but love him and his protectiveness over his family and the ones he loves.

This was such an entertaining read and it was hard to put down. Rebecca is such a great character. Rebecca is abducted by men who are after a piece of artwork her father gave her. After she escapes she ends up on a boat, Gideon's boat. Gideon has no idea about Rebecca but is compelled to help her. Rebecca has secrets about her family especially her father, the con artist. Rebecca was raised by her parents, and even participated in her fathers cons with him. Her adventure with Gideon to find her father and save herself from being killed over a painting is action packed. This was such a fun book to read, not too serious and not to romantic. I can't wait to continue the Saga.

The fact that this book is not that well-known is surprisingly annoying because it's a great book for those who love Romance. And let me tell you that it's pretty clean. Don't be deceived by the cover! Talking about deception, I still couldn't figure out why the book is called "Dancing with Deception". Anyway, I really enjoy it.

I have picked up this book like five or six months ago and ditched it after having read for less than ten pages. I didn't know why, could be that I had more intriguing book to read then. But after I picked it up again, Boy!, how grateful I am of that decision. The first few opening page for me is kind of deceiving a bit, because I thought I was dealing with romantic suspense with the smoking hot FBI agent. But I was totally wrong! That's why it's so refreshing.

This book is well-written. In my opinion, it's much more well-written than some of the romantic novels that got on the New York Times' bestsellers. The plot is great, concerning with romance than suspense, which I loveeee! The plot was well-planned by involving the most unexpected mentioned character to play the part in the end. And let me tell you, the leading male is goddamn cute.

Speaking of the characters, Jesus!, Gideon is dangerously sexy and surprisingly warm-hearted. At first, I picture him as a crude man without any manner a gentleman should has (Don't blame me, he was described as pirate-like!). But it turns out he's such a cute and attractive person to be with, except his ponytail. Yes! his ponytail. My ideal, in-the-heavenly-fantasy-world guy shouldn't have ponytail. It makes me think of a guy in gas station somewhere in Texas (no offense there). It's like the word ponytail shouldn't be in a description of a dreamy guy. That's so annoying whenever I came across the word "ponytail" in the book. It just kind of ruined the mood.

Rebecca is our leading female here in the book. I both like and dislike her. I love her strengths physically. I mean she's literally a super woman, dodging and dealing with those thugs. She should won the Strongest Leading Female Character award. However, contrastingly, she's emotionally vulnerable. She's like a contrast shades of colors in herself. She seems like a confident person, but the minute people start talk about family and love, she just couldn't handle it. And when I said contrast, I mean she's a hard person to understand.

What I think doesn't make sense is, firstly, the timeline of the events. From what I have read, I understand that the night after being chased by those thugs and leaving Gideon at the motel room, she goes to the ballet class. I mean if I understand correctly, doesn't that sound weird? Wouldn't a person have an emotional breakdown after a situation like that? Or maybe as I said before she's a super woman. Secondly, it would be quite weird if you really think about this. Rebecca, who has just met Gideon for less than three weeks or so, moves into his bedroom, living like a long-time couple. It would freak me out if I were Rebecca. When I was reading, I didn't feel any awkwardness, but today while I was thinking about what to write about this book's review on the underground, I realized how weird that would be, not to say, freaky. I don't mean that this does-not-make-sense-matter is bad. On the contrast, I think it's that well-written that you are absorbed into the story that you don't catch the peculiarity of the whole situation.

All in all, this book is great. I really love it. I do hope that there will be some people who read my review and want to pick up this book. I wish it could be far better known and receive good review in the future. Try it!

Pretty good. I got a bit frustrated with his anger and her stupidity a couple times. There were some formatting errors - I had 2 versions of the book as it said it was re-edited and added to. I read the longer one thinking that was the later version but I'm not sure it was cause there were still errors.

Best quotes:
“I show you mine, you show me yours.” He burst out in wild laughter when her eyes widened. “I show you boat building, you teach me a dance. Where is your mind, Niña?” “In a Cleveland gutter obviously,” she muttered, embarrassed.

“You never had anyone? A pet, a relative?” She shook her head. “Neither one of my parents were speaking to their family. I never asked for a pet because—” “Why, Rebecca?” He slid his arms up around her and brought her down to where her head rested on his shoulder. “What if it didn’t love me either? I don’t think I could have stood it.” “You’re not unlovable.” He tightened his hold on her trembling body. “I loved you from the first."

“What if I told you,” he whispered in her ear, “that I know exactly what you’re afraid of.” She shook her head because words failed her. “And what if I told you, you don’t have to be afraid.” His fingers circled her wrist, ran up her arms. He turned her around and brought his hands up to frame her face. “You know that I love you. And what you’re afraid of is that I’ll stop.” Tears poured down her cheeks. She made no move to stop them. Her heart was so full of hope; it beat wildly in her chest. “But Rebecca.” He laid his mouth on hers and she tasted a tenderness he’d never shown her. She was awed by it. “I’ll never stop.”

Great story. I love this author's writing. Rebecca annoyed me so much because she kept running away from the only people that wanted to help her, which was just dumb on her part. I understood why she acted that way, but I just couldn 19t agree with her.

I really liked Gideon so I guess that 19s why it was hard to side with her. I felt that Gideon proved to her many times over that he would help her & basically put everything on the line for her. She owed him a bit more then just disappearing so many times. She was just so flighty. Then also, after you weigh all the sacrifices that Gideon made for her, I feel like she made out like a bandit. She never once proved herself to him, that she was in it for the long haul 13 hey, that would be a great follow up story!

I loved the book, Gideon obviously was my favorite character, then my next fav. was Jess. I felt sympathy for Rebecca 19s situation but the Avery family shined in this story.
Can't wait to read the next book in the Avery series which focuses on Colin. :)
