I was raised on a small farm in the Midwest, at a time when there were only 3 television stations. Oh the horror!
Growing up miles away from any other families gave me the opportunity to hone my imagination and plenty of time to read. To say that I had an active imagination is a huge understatement and I have always had a fascination for magic, fantasy and the paranormal.
After earning a bachelor degree in Criminology I married my college sweetheart and traded farm country for the sugar white beaches of the Florida Panhandle. Now I spend my time writing and taking care of my three children, two dogs, one guinea pig and my terrific husband.
I received this book from the Author for my honest review. That being said this is a wonderful début novel from Lynne Stevie. Angel's Kiss follows the strange twist that occurs in the life of Alexandria. Lexie is a “happily married” private detective who suddenly finds herself faced with a world she had no idea even existed. A world filled with danger at every turn. A world filled with beings such as immortals and angels and weapons as old as time that only a Dark Angel can wield.
This book is a mystery along with being a paranormal/fantasy. This story grabs your attention from the very first page and the timing and character creation is fabulous! The only problem I saw was that it ended. I actually yelled at the book saying NO! You can’t end now! What is going to happen next! NOOOOOOOOOOO! I can honestly say that her next book needs to come out NOW so I can find out. Yes I know I’m not very patient am I? But it was just that good.
I don’t want to go into too many details about the story itself and give the plot or the mystery away but suffice it to say you will be shocked at the twists and turns that happen in Lexie’s life. And her husband… Grrrrrr is all I can say… When something looks too good to be true it probably is… This book had just the right amount of blood and gore to get you caught up in the nightmare her life turned into and just enough sex to make you go oh wow. The entire book was well thought out and well written.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery with that paranormal flavour.
I received this book from my Goodreads.com group called Lovers of Paranormal as a Request to Read from the Author. At first I was hesitant having not done this before and scared I would be forced to finish and then have to "review" a mediocre book. Other than a couple small editting errors which are my personal pet peeve in Ebooks I am happy to say that wasn't the case at all.
Angel's Kiss was a a good read right from the beginning. I enjoyed the relationships as they developed and changed and felt like I was being invited into Alexandria's world one maneagable piece at a time. I found myself wanting to go back and read to find out what happened next even though at the time I was very busy. I look forward to seeing what happens next.
3.5stars actually -- A Great Premise and an exciting new world!
Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Even after reading the very accurate synopsis, I was unprepared to be so engrossed in such an intense mystery thriller after only a few pages. I really enjoyed being in Lexi Lewis’ point of view and learning what was going on just as she was. While being marketed as a PNR/UF-mystery, I think it should be the other way around because the mystery & suspense elements are so strong, I feel it is more a suspenseful thriller with paranormal elements. I really liked the intricacy of the mystery and the pacing of revealing Lexi’s hidden heritage. I also really enjoyed the secondary characters, their relationships to each other and to Lexi. But for me Lexi was the overall weak link. I didn’t buy her actions. I was perpetually told of the closeness to some characters and the estrangement with others yet the behavior was the exact opposite. That’s either a betrayal of the character or a betrayal of the reader – either way it’s a disconnect and affects the perception of all other actions. (Easier to talk to strangers ok, but IMO it went so far as to marginalize the characters that were supposed to be important to her and elevated the ones that were not. that got old fast.) That is not to say that Lexi did not have some redeeming characteristics such as great fighter instincts, resourcefulness and a willingness to do the unconventional and most of all a strong female. BTW, I loved Zeke, he was my favorite!
Lexi’s full life opens the door to additional adventures and development of the secondary characters which could be interesting.
Angel's Kiss is a well-written attention grabber with suprises at every turn. Lexi is a private detective who is married to her college sweetheart, Alan, living a content and happy life. One night, while on assignment, Lexie is attacked and dragged across town to the rooftop of an old hotel under construction. She fights off her attacker but blacks out immeditey aftrward. When she wakes up the following morning, Lexie has no idea just how much her life has changed and how much more it will forever change. Strange events, bizzarre dreams, and an uncooperative grandmother (Beatrix) leave Lexi with even more questions. Since it appears that her grandmother is the only person who can explain this new life, Lexi indulges her evasiveness (but only briefly). Beatrix actually made me mad. Her half answers and riddles had me screaming "Just tell her already!!!" I really think if Lexie was more knowledgeable about what was happening to her,she could have been better prepared to handle the dangers. But maybe Lexie just needed to see things unfold for herself. Either way, this was a really good book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope there is a sequel. Team Zeke! =)
This is a wonderful début novel from Lynne Stevie - a writer I expect we will hear much more from in the future. A paranormal/fantasy novel Angel's Kiss follows the strange twist that occurs in the life of the MC, Alexandria or 'Lexie'. From suburban wife and private detective Lexie suddenly finds herself faced with a world she had never known existed filled with immortal beings, angels and an ancient, deadly weapon.
I was very impressed with the novel. Part fantasy, part mystery and all good, Ms. Stevie has the gift of a true storyteller. The story grabs your interest from first page to last with excellent timing, a well rounded main character in Lexie and the author paints the picture of the action delightfully. This is a book that will appeal to many people with its' mix of fantasy, paranormal, mystery and even romance. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an engaging read.
As a fan of sci-fi, fantasy and paranormal I was certainly expecting a different story.. it is about vampires, but not... I have to say I could't quit reading it! I usually have 2 or 3 books on the go at once and this time I couldn't put it down for another book! It hooked you right from the beginning and kept a tight hold all the way thru to the end, when it hooked you again and left you breathing hard saying"What? it can't end now? what happened? how will she solve this?" I am on pins and needles now till the next instalment comes out. It will be the first buy on my list!!! Thanks Lynne for a wonderful read and a fantastic story that kept me enthralled from beginning to end.
I really enjoyed this. The story got me interested right from the start, and kept my interest throughout. (And I loved that the heroine is a grown women and not another 17 year old in highschool yada yada yada!) Lexie is strong, but at the same time vulnerable. (damn those pesky human emotions) She was a great lead because you feel yourself relating to her character through her tale. I would very much like to know the final out come! The book leaves you wanting more. Or closure. I haven't decided which is the best term for it yet lol.
I loved this book. Its a great take on the vampipre genre and Lynee Stevie brings a new, credible version of how our favourite supes came to be.
Lexie, as our heroine, is a tough cookie with a vulnerable side that makes her very likeable. We meet her as strange, unexplainable things are happening to her and she discovers a skeleton in her family closet that her Father and Grandmother have kept hidden from her.
Now though, she's in at the deepend and we're along for a very steamy ride.
Brilliant. Just brilliant. That is all I have to say.
I was gifted this story by the author in exchange for an honest review. Lexi is about to be thrown into a world of unknown. Life is going to be turned upside down. It all starts when she is working a case for a client who wants to prove her husband is cheating. That is where normality ends. He comes to her in her dreams but who is he? I rated this novel 4 stars. It kept me intrigued from page 1, a good mix of mystery and intrigue with some fantasy and romance thrown in. The twists and turns are not completely predictable which is nice. I would love to see a sequel to this story.
A really good read! I can thoroughly recommend this book if you like a fantasy/mystery story. I'm not usually a fan of fantasy but this was not so far-fetched and was very readable. I had trouble putting this book down because the pace was fast and I was itching to know what would happen next. This is a first novel by an author with a very good style of writing; a style that I enjoy. I can sense a sequel coming on, and if so I look forward to reading it!
Full disclosure - I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was captivated by this book from the start. It is a very unique paranormal thriller/romance, and I had to keep reading to find out what happened next! The book ended with issues unresolved and many questions unanswered. Sure hope this means there will be a sequel! :)
An excellent novel. Well written and packed full of intrigue with a twist of paranormal that will keep you spellbound from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more from this author ... more on the story of Lexie would be awesome!!
Angel’s Kiss By Lynne Stevie Review by Linda Hays-Gibbs December 10, 2012
A young woman, Alexandria Hayes-Lewis is grieving the death of her father and her whole world seems to fall apart. Lexie, the name she is called by friends, runs a detective agency in a beach resort town called Seravan. She is successful and happily married to her handsome husband Alan, until a case turns her life upside down. A horrendous encounter with an attacker and then a worse murder leaves her reeling. Her dreams are suddenly invaded by a handsome demon, whispering erotic things into the night and she can’t seem to find any control to resist him. Suddenly, she realizes that she does not know what her life has been about at all. She goes to the only person that knew her family, her grandmother but her grandmother talks in riddles. Her life spirals more out of control and her encounters with otherworldly beings escalates. Lexie is caught between two worlds. The world she knew and the world she never knew existed. Her only salvation is her inner strengths. Wooed nightly in her dreams her fantasy world is more erotic and happier than her real existence where she must face the prospect that someone is trying to kill her. She is sent guardians by her grandmother but the only true friend she has is a giant dog. He understands her and protects her as no other can. I loved this story and the action packed adventures. I was on my seat trying to figure out what would happen next. I loved how Lexie grew stronger and surer of herself. The sex scenes were hot and the storyline new and exciting. The other characters, her granite stiff grandmother, her new guardian Ben, her sweet brother, and her old friend Ottie were genuine and full fleshed. They all became very dear to me. I loved the new take on vampirism and the dark angels. A dark angel kissed Lexie at birth and he was her grandfather. She is blessed and cursed. It was a great story and I give it a four out of five. The only problem I have with this story is the ending. It left me right in the middle of trying to figure out the next step. I was totally marooned and bereft. I do, however, hope there is a sequel and I get to read it. I can’t wait. Linda Hays-Gibbs
This book is one of those that grips you from the first page and won't let you go!
Written with a unique writting style and in a way that puts you right in the head of Lexi makes this book flow with ease. It will be addictive and if you do manage to put the book down, you will just be thinking about it until you pick it back up!
Lexi is a lovable character, strong, loving with strong morals and a good sense of humour and passion. Her life is great. She loves her Husband, brother, friends and her job. Until she is attached after working undercover on a case, her life as she knows it is turned upside down.
The attack kicks in a superhuman power that Lexi doesn't understand or didn't know she had. And unable to explain certain things that happened during the attack throws her mind into a spin.
Searching the answers to understand whats going on is not as straight forward as Lexi thought. With secrets being kept, questions unanswered, those close to her with alterior motives for her power and immortals out to kill her for it throws her world into chaos.
Not knowing who to trust or to believe she is part of a prophecy to be mated to sexy Ellasar an Egypcian God (who i loved), who meets her in her dreams, Lexi's salvation comes in a form of a womans best friend, Zeke the dog, a guardian to protect her.
The book made me laugh in parts and also hot under the collar in a steamy scene, i would loved to have seen a bit more steamy scenes, but this is my personal opinion.
The book ends with a promise of a sequel and i very much look forward to reading more from Lynne. (And secretly hope that a true (steamy) romance will bloom With Lexi and Ellasar.)
Working on a client’s case through her family detective business flips Alexandria’s life into a world she never knew existed. Marked with the powerful life force of the Angel’s Kiss, she comes to understand that her reality will never be the same. Fear for the husband she loves, and her only brother, Alexandria turns to an estranged grandmother that knows more than she is willing to tell. Who to trust, or believe, keep her heart and mind on a chase for answers that still leave her without the full picture of what the future holds in it’s hands for her. With clues to help her put the puzzle together, Alexandria learns of Dark Angels as the tools of God, immortals stealing the life force of humans, and the “joie de vivre” power held by her great-grandmother, Evangeline. With her life in danger, and confusion as to what to do overwhelms,.. a man enters her dreams and declares she is his Goddess, Qadesh, and he has waited hundreds of years just for her.
I have no doubt that we are going to see this author’s name on many fascinating books to come. She exhibits an abundance of writing talent that will attract a broad following of fans with her style. Her ability to bring across a well placed plot, with a flowing rhythm that slowly increases its tempo with heart stopping twists and unexpected turns have you wide eyed while you read faster and faster. Giving away just enough answers, yet not revealing several of the keys to many questions, clearly leaves the reader on the edge with anticipation for the next installment. Great job Lynne Stevie!!
Lynne Stevie is a paranormal writer. She is a wonderfully inventive, electrifying and humorous writer all rolled into a pleasurable package. Angel’s Kiss is filled with sensuality, betrayal, and intrigue couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed her style of writing. I would highly recommend this novel. The novel was an exhilarating page turner and I cannot wait to read her next novel.
If you love to Sexy Angels, that sort resemble vampires you will enjoy this novel. The story takes place in a Gulf-side resort town. The main character’s name Alexandria Hayes-Lewis, where she runs a family owned detective agency. She has a group of fellow investigators, a husband, brother and a Grandmother in her life.
Alexandria is following a client around one night and falls into an otherworldly reality. A reality she didn’t know she belonged too. This world has Immortal beings wanting to take people’s life force to remain immortal and ancient weapon, the only weapon able to kill an Immortal. There are Angels that can move ungodly fast, are incredibly strong and have a taste for blood and life forces. It has just the right amount of blood, gore and sex to make this story wonderfully captivating. It was a Good Read
I was given a copy of this book as a Read to Review from the author.
Angel's Kiss is a unique tale and I highly recommend it for the Urban Fiction/Paranormal reader.
The story had a couple of spots that didn't work for me ~ the constant back and forth between Lexie and her grandmother. How many times would you go back to the same person if they promised to give you answers one minute and then pretend they don't matter and not give them to you the next? Especially when it's a life or death situation. The author made a few "new author" mistakes with telling instead of showing and some slight editing problems but overall none of it took away from the story enough to make me stop reading. That's the key....the story remained interesting!
Lexie was a good leading lady ~ no simpering Miss here! Zeke was a fun and unexpected addition to the cast of characters. Cannot wait to find out more about him and many of the others as well.
I really enjoyed the last part of the book as we discovered a lot of answers in a relatively short amount of pages. Love the mystery behind the draw of the immortals to the Seraiah family. I find myself very much looking forward to the next book in the series!
A strong willed female character. An unknown past fills her present and future. A story full of mystery and danger. Deception, passion and immortal creatures.
This story is filled with everything that draws me to a novel. It has a beautiful, strong, independent female character. She is a successful business woman. She runs her own private investigator firm. A case starts the debacle of her life. She finds herself a victim of an attack that changes her perception of life. She discovers she is more than human and no one will give her a straight answer. Who can she trust? Her grandmother seems to have lost her mind. Her husband, who only wants to protect her. The man that comes through her dreams drives her insane.
Her life is changing and she can't stop it. The story is full of twists of fate and unsolved mysteries. It is full of cliff hangers and the end... (well I just can't give it away)... lets just say wow!!!
I can't wait to read more stories by Lynne Stevie I can only hope a sequel to this novel is already printed somewhere, just waiting for a release date or I think I will go crazy waiting to read more about Alexandria Lewis.
Lynne Stevie wrote such a different version of angels and vampires that I have ever read. I am a big fan of vampires and the way she took the character Ellasar was unique and sexy! There are so many twists to this book that I didn’t see coming.
The way she also described the angels/dark angels was a change for me from others I had assumed Lynne would take the same route; but that wasn’t the case at all with these angels.
Lexie never expected her life to take such a drastic change were she was trying to survive instead of her usual everyday life. She went to being an investigator of the usual adultery cases to being a woman hiding from this unknown assailant that’s trying to kill her. Her world gets flipped upside down and you don’t want to miss out on this fast pass mystery.
My heart broke for Lexie so many times throughout this book, but my heart also tried to anticipate a big move that never happen. Angel’s Kiss left me hungry for more, to find out more of Lexie’s past and to see what her future has in store. Possibly with or without Ellasar!! 4 stars for this awesome intense read!
I liked it ! If I could give half stars, I'd give this one a solid 3.5 !
So many times we lump mystery, suspense, thriller, psychological thrillers together as if they are one genre and call them all “mysteries” mostly because they all pertain an element of mystery, an unsolved or unrevealed secret. Yet, not all books classified as mystery contain suspense or psychological components. If we are to separate these, Ms. Stevie’s book Angel’s Kiss would sit right in the belly of what I would call a true mystery.... an older style mystery stripped down to it’s essence where clues are dropped and revealed, a story that both tells and shows...
And THEN Ms. Stevie adds in a touch of the supernatural! It’s like a combination of Sam Spade (Maltese Falcon) and Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich character)wrapped into one character, Alexandria, meets Edward and Jacob. Brilliant – as is her title, Angel’s Kiss, and what it actually means....which, I’m not going to give it away....you must read the book to find out !
In Angel’s Kiss we’re introduced to Alexandria Hayes-Lewis, owner and operator of her father’s private investigation firm. For all accounts she leads a charmed life with everything she ever wanted. Then along came a case introducing her to another world that leaves her reeling.
Lexie learns that she is descended from a lineage of angels while at the same time she begins dreaming of an ancient vampire-like creature named Ellasar, who wants nothing more than to please her. Not knowing if she can trust the man in her dreams or her own grandmother, she tries to understand why she was marked for death while trying to keep a normal life.
As a fan of horror, I’m always interested to see what kind of tweaks writers come up with to make their version unique and their own. In Angel’s Kiss, we’re introduced to a new kind of immortal born from the fallen angels and only resembling a vampire. With mysterious guardians and everyone wanting to help the heroine, as the reader, we never know what’s going to happen next. A great and fun read if you’re a fan of horror and thrillers.
I hadn't expected to love this Author gifted book as much as I did. Just goes to show that the old adage, you can't judge a book about it's cover, is completely true.
The premise of the book caught me off guard and I was immediately intrigued. Alexandria's story unfolded with twists and turns that were not expected, engaging the reader. I absolutely love a tough-as-nails, female lead who isn't bossy and unlikable. Alexandria fit that bill.
Struggling through the loss of her father, abandoned by her mother, she is ushered into a world of intrigue and power plays when she is seemingly mugged. Shaken, she has to come to grips with what happened to her, as well as the truth behind her mother's abandonment and her grandmother's aloofness. Shocking conclusion to this installment.
Hooked from the very beginning, I cannot wait to see what Ms. Stevie has in store for Alexandria (Lexie)Hayes-Lewis.
I absolutely loved this book! With a unique story-line on angels and vampires, and slight elements of the ancient egyptian era, this book had a truly wonderful and captivating aspect that I do not always see in many other books. The main characters are portrayed as very strong but also remain vulnerable as a true person would be.
Once I started reading, I could not put it down! I am truly impressed by the author's way of writing ... It truly makes me feel as if I am a part of the story itself and holds me captivated and definitely wanting more! :)
I do hope to see further sequels coming in the future from this author with this story-line, and possibly different story-lines in the future as well. I look forward to following this author on her journey in books! :)
I enjoyed this book, as it constantly kept me guessing what the heck is going to happen next. This book is about a girl named Lexi who is an investigator who deals with mostly civil cases at her firm. She is out one night trying to catch a cheating husband in an act of infidelity with herself as bait when the unspeakable happens. Lexi is held captive by someone she can't she and OMG he bit her, then she wakes up on a roof top with no idea how she got there. You get to follow Lexi through this story as she learns that she has powers, and starts to learn how to use them. This book definitely left me wanting more.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I really enjoyed this book. The author did a great job of pulling me into the story. When I wasn't reading the book I was thinking about it. The storyline kept me guessing....and there are still some gaps in the story, that I guess the author is going to continue in the next installment. Lexie was a very believeable character and I connected with her. She was a normal average person and had a loving husband. I was beginning to feel sorry for Alan and I was really glad when Lexie sat down to tell him everything...and POW!!! Another twist in the story (not going to tellyou, you have to read it...=)
I would recommend this book to anyone, it was a great read!
I found this book by accident not long after it was originally published by Lynne Stevie in 2012. Since then, I've read it 17 times. I guard my signed paperback zealously (although it is now dog eared).
It is fast paced, great twists and turns, with a wonderful twist on vampires/angels ... I loved the main character Alex, she was real, strong, and quite stubborn - all of which I adore in a main character.
Plus Zeke - I'm a sucker for an animal secondary character, and this one had a personality you fall for easily.
I've recommended it many times, and will continue to do so. I hope Lynne has another book coming soon ...
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review
This was a very interesting book to read in as such, the author took a completely different path to the existence of angels, vampires, and the idea of immortality. The characters were well developed, especially with all the minor details in their back stories, interacted well with each other in the context of the story line, and there wasn't I any clumsiness in the introduction of new characters. There was also enough intrigue, mystery, and plot twists to keep the reader's interest.
This was an amazing book that I honestly could not put down. The characters are all very likable, I love the sexual tension between Lexie and some of the other characters (who shall remain nameless), and the entire plot was unique. Watching Lexie grow and embrace her powers was wonderful and I truly hope that there will be a sequel soon to continue on with the story. Highly recommend this book, great read!
