An uninspiring front cover but a good read. Makes me want to visit Cornwall again. Although a segment of the story takes place at Christmas, I wouldn't associate the book as a Christmas themed book.
I have piles of books in my house buried in boxes that have moved around many different houses with me and have never been read. This is one of them. It has been with me for at least 9 years and I have no idea how it came into my life; whether someone gave it to me or whether I picked it up myself so there was a bit of mystery about its origins. I'd also never heard of Sarah Harvey so had no idea what to expect.
I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised. It was a really mature and thoughtful book. I was worried it would turn into a whole load of clichés but it was really realistic and it was wonderful to see both Natalie and Cas's development through the story. Natalie is a really likeable main character; vulnerable, lost and grieving at the beginning and it's beautiful to see how she grows and as a consequence how her relationships with the other characters grow too.
It really was a great book and I would definitely read another one from Harvey.
Definitely a keeper …… brought tears to my eyes at various points. I could see so many different lives here. Cornwall, stepdaughters etc etc . Absolutely loved it and will definitely read again !
