True love needs no pretence...

When A&E trauma surgeon, Dr. Isobel Murphy, married sexy Irish firefighter, Lucas Delaney, she knew it was going to be forever. Unfortunately, she didn’t realise forever would only last five short years.

Keeping her failed marriage from her family seems like a piece of cake, until her grandmother calls a family gathering and Belle suspects she’s about to announce a critical illness. Making excuses for Luc’s absence, she flies home to Connecticut. Then delicious Lucas arrives for the three-day get-together and Belle knows things are going to get dicey. Especially since he still has the power to make her heart miss a beat, and her stomach bottom out.

When Belle asks him to pretend they’re still deeply in love, Luc doesn’t have a problem. He sees an opportunity to reclaim the love of his life. And he goes all out to remind Belle how it used to be between them, before long work hours and clashing schedules invaded their marriage. What he needs to know though, is, once the pretence is over, will Belle be applying for her decree absolute? Or will they be renewing wedding vows?

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance about a couple in love who lost their way for a bit. I love, love, love that the hero and heroine both had high stress heroic careers. Monique DeVere’s smooth writing style makes the novel flow, and her vivid imagery and ‘real’ characters put readers right smack dab in the story, up close and personal. You feel like you’re a part of the characters’ lives, rather than just an observer. Excellent job. Let’s Pretend is definitely a must read!

Belle is an American trauma surgeon working in the UK who has been summoned home for a family reunion. She hasn't told her family about her split from firefighter husband Lucas, so she makes up an excuse as to why he can't join her. Luc hears of the reunion via a third party and arrives at Belle's grandma's house. He had initially thought that Belle would reconsider their split but he has just received the decree nisi and he still has no idea why Belle wants to end their marriage. Fearing that the reunion is to announce her grandma is ill, and not wanting to cause a ruckus Belle asks Luc to play along as if they're still married and Luc agrees on the condition that she'll give him some answers. Although Belle wants to end the marriage it's not because she doesn't care for Luc, and she finds that their time apart hasn't reduced the chemistry between them one bit, leading to a steamy little interlude!

Both Belle and Luc are very likeable. As their story goes on the reason for their split becomes clearer; you can see that it's an obstacle that can be overcome and you are willing them on to sort it out. I really enjoyed this story and I'd recommend it.

Dr. Isobel Murphy is going to divorce her husband, firefighter, Lucas Delaney
But when her grandmom calls family gathering and she found out that Lucas is there.
Belle just can't let's her grandmom know that she and Lucas isn't in love with each other anymore.
So she has a deal with Lucas. Lucas accepted this proposition with other plan in his mind, he wants to bring Belle back to his life and their marriage. But is it going to success ?

I don't know how to rate this book. This is sweet novel to read. But I'm just not feeling anything for the character. Isobelle isn't my type of heroine at all. Especially when I knew her reason in divorce with Lucas. May be that's a good reason to divorce someone but when come from Isobelle character ... This's just not compatible with her personality. So I decided I will rate this book at 3 stars because this is just OK

Sorry, leaving someone because you love them so much you are afraid of their job (which they had before you got together)...ridiculous. My husband and I were only dating while he was on a twelve month deployment to Afghanistan, and I worried every day, but it never occurred to me leave him because I was scared.

This was a good story but it was too short for my liking. Great chemistry between the main characters. Very emotional and sweet towards the end of the story.

Funny if you like romances with breakups due to poor communication. For me, I thought it was well-written, but it wasn't as fun for me to read as I thought it would be.

I remember only thinking this was an okay read. I do recall some humor from the family trip to the US.
