A book for people who love and (love to) hate cats
99 Reasons to Hate Cats was born out of deep familiarity. It shows the many ways in which the Felis Domesticus can drive their owners mad yet maintain their keeper's affections. Read, laugh and see if you find yourself (and your cat -- or cats) in these pages.
The 99 reasons are all amusingly illustrated with original cartoon art. For the color-capable Kindle Fire and Kindle apps (on iPhone, iPad and Android), the illustrations are shown in color.
I looked up from my writing to find my three cats, Maslow, Fanci, and Ashley staring at me. Fanci had a small book in her mouth while the other two were looking at me like I filled their food bowl with broccoli.
"Why do you hate us?" asked Maslow.
I was stunned. "Hate you. I don't hate you. You're my Buddies"
Fanci dropped the book on the rug. "Then why do you have this book?"
I picked it up. It was 99 Reasons to Hate Cats by cartoonist Tom Brice. I breathed a sigh of relief. "That a humor book."
Ashley looked perplexed. "It's funny to hate cats?"
"No, of course not. Look. The writer clearly likes cats. He is just pointing out the strange things you cats do in spite of how much we like you.
"Like what?"
Well, for instance the mess you make in the litter box."
"You would rather we make a mess somewhere else like the sofa".
"Good point. But how about leaving dead birds at my feet as gifts? Or howling at night? Or shedding fur on my suit just before I go to work?
Fanci smirked. "If we do so many annoying things, why do you love us?"
I thought for a minute. "Because you three cats are kind of cool in an ironic way."
They liked that. Maslow replied, "OK then. Even though we cats don't do irony we'll let this slide."
I smiled. "That's generous of you. Why are you three being so forgiving?
They looked at each other and in unison yelled "BECAUSE IT"S DINNER TIME!" and ran into the kitchen.
Maybe I should think about filling their food bowls with broccoli.
A free quick 99 comic about cats. Some not that great, others repetitive. The winner was " You never hear about a 'dog lay'!". I got to check this out for free. I really enjoyed the writers stories of family cats at the end.
'99 Reasons to Hate Cats' features various images accompanied by reasons to hate cats. The simple yet funny illustrations combined with the light-hearted content made this a quick and highly enjoyable read.
So I downloaded this on a whim today thanks to a recommendation from my book club, Its free on kindle so I really had nothing to lose. This is simply a book of images and captions about life with kittens, Although this book was is a long series of complaints about cats the things is the author never gets rid of them, His jokes and annoyances are delivered with a level of charm that cant help but be admired, you get the sense that although these animals are the bane of his life he loves them dearly.
There is no real story but here are some of my personal highlights:
The art style is very simple but to be honest for what this book is it was perfect, I got the message loud and clear. This proved to be rather more enjoyable than I could have imagined, It explores the love hate relationship with your cat, This book although about cats perfectly summed up my own relationship with children. If I had one complaint it would be that this book could easily be read in a day but it was free so cant really say anything. Give this book a try i found it very enjoyable indeed.
This collection of comics and observations reminds us just how much we're willing to put up with to live with a cat. It would make a cute gift for any cat owner (who is likely to chuckle, cringe, or just nod knowingly), or for anyone who grudgingly lives with a cat (and is likely to exclaim, "See! I told you so!").
Either way, it's an amusing little book that will probably make you smile. ...Unless you really do hate cats, in which case you'll probably also hate this book. Because it's about cats.
Not being a cat lover but always seeming to end up babysitting the little furballs I thought it was funny and when I am amused the world is a better place.
I thought this was going to be a witty collection about how cats can be trying but are ultimately wonderful. What it really seemed to be was a man who seemed jealous about how wife's love of their cats. Things like "women like them" and how women construe their behavior as "love" were off putting. I know there is a second, and maybe in that one the author got around to admitting he likes cats, but I won't tag along to find out.
A witty book by someone who has been around them. The illustrations are infinitely funnier than the text, because the text talks about things most people are aware of (are they, really?), like "They eat your other pets". Definitely a must read, both for cat lovers and people who think cats are supercilious snobs who don't belong in civilized homes (I plead guilty).
I true!y enjoyed verification of my disturbing fondness for my sometimes annoying furballs. Apparently their behaviors are innate so why do humans even try to change then. Always the same with variations. Perfect. Enjoyable!!
Nothing much to say. This was okay. The artwork was meh though not bad. After having lived with a cat before, I could understand many of the comics, but I just didn't find them all that funny. VERY quick read though.
99 Reasons to Hate Cats: Cartoons for Cat Lovers by Tom Briscoe is a short cartoon book - because of that it's pretty difficult to do my standard 300+ word review so please enjoy this short one instead!
First of all, yes I am a massive cat lover!
This book is easy to read and amusing. While it isn't anything special or amazing, laugh out loud comedy it does bring a smile to my face. It points out some of the funny things cats do. Perhaps this could have been improved by turning the single picture into a short multiple panel page set up for each sentence/reason - similar to other humorous animals books. It loaded fine on my kindle and I appreciated the use of colour in the background to make the pictures more interesting.
I found this book for free on Amazon and, to be honest, I don't think I would buy it, just because the wealth of animal, especially cat, related material online is more laugh out loud, free and easy to access.
I love cats. I would be a crazy cat lady except that I am not allowed to have cats – I have heard that is a pre-requisite for becoming a crazy cat lady. I decided to read this simple graphic book to cure me of my love for all things feline.
It did not cure me
Sure cats have their faults. Rubbing their bum in your face, loud obnoxious mating and loud obnoxious fighting, malting. But I just love them. One way to make me melt is to show me a picture of a kitten. Fortunately for me, the internet is made for cat lovers. Hazzah!
99 Reasons to Hate Cats by Tom Briscoe is a perfectly funny book for cat lovers and haters alike. Read it!
99 Reasons to Hate Cats by Tom Briscoe is available now.
[image error] I mean look at the guy. He's so adorable.
He's my little baby and I love him.
Doesn't mean he's not a jerk. He's just a really cute jerk.
So yes. I love cats. And I loved this book. It's full of all the amusing and annoying things cats do and why we should hate them, but they're just so cute we can't do anything but love them.
Cute and so true...if you're a cat lover, you can appreciate every one of these 99 reasons to "hate" cats. As an owner of three cats (I'm so lucky, I know...), I've experienced basically every one of these scenarios in the cartoons and really all you can do is laugh. Cats are who they are - they don't make any bones about it.
If you want to check out the authors website, it is www.hatecats.com and you can see a lot of the cartoons on there. He also seems to do the odd free giveaway for Kindles.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not nor have I ever been a pet owner so that's probably the main reason why I wasn't particularly moved by this book. Although I did chuckle out loud once and I guess that's okay for a book that didn't cost me a cent. It's a book of one page cartoons that can be finished rather quickly and judging from the other reviews if you're a cat lover (or maybe just a cat bearer) you might enjoy the book but for myself who doesn't picture himself living with such a creature....well, I just can't relate.
99 Reasons to Hate Cats by Tom Briscoe is a sweet, humorous observation on cats and their crazy daily antics that endear them to all cat lovers. His descriptions, accompanied by his humorous cartoons, are wonderful mini vignettes of the many trials we cat owners must endure. A quick read, I recommend this book for all cat lovers (and those few haters) who appreciate the humor in their feline family members. As I don my protective gear to clean the litter box, I'll have a secret smile under the face mask remembering some of the sections regarding the cat box.
99 Reasons to Hate Cats, Cartoons for Cat Lover by Tom Briscoe-This is a book which adult and child can enjoy. My husband and I chuckled throughout. Both the illustrations and the “reasons to hate cats” are clever and fun. The book is sort of based on the writer’s own cats. I can relate to this, as I have a childrens series also based on my cats. A good read for anyone who adores cats and in need of a little “pick me up”.Cancer Is My Name
I'll read anything about cats, I adore them. Hating them for any of the things they do in the book is something I couldn't do. There are a few behaviours mentioned that I really don't like, my 2 kitties do them, but I still could never hate them. I know this is supposed to be short and comical but I think the title should have been less drastic, Like maybe, "99 Reasons To Hate What Cats Do". Maybe I'm nit picking but I'm just looking out for my King and Queen of beasts!
This quick, entertaining read by Tom Briscoe had me turning pages and saying things like, "Yep, that's my cat," "Hey, I've known a cat like that," and "Wow, I thought MY cat was the only one who did that!" Some of the expressions on the faces of human and cat alike are priceless. My only wish was that there had been more reasons to "hate" cats! I definitely recommend picking this up for some quick laughs, especially if you love (or are stuck living with!) cats.
Tom Briscoe has written and drawn a book of cartoons that anyone who has ever owned or been owned by a cat will relate to. This is an exceptionally quick read - I don't think it took more than 15 minutes for me to get through. The amount of giggles it gave me guarantees that I will come back to it whenever I need a quick laugh.
Cute book that anyone who has ever been around a cat can relate to. I love cats and have two of them but found myself laughing and nodding in agreement as some of their least favorite behaviors were highlighted in this book.
Funny booklet, certainly would be amusing to all those who love cats. Although... I got it for free, but current price ($5.95) from my point of view seems way too expensive - I deem it too short to justify such high price. For lower price though, might be cute wireless gift to cat-lovers.
There's not much to it, but I really liked it. I LOVE cats, so don't much care for the title, but the content is soooo what cats do!! You can love them in spite of it, or hate them because of it...makes no difference to the cats.
