Sargent Megan Saunders, 27, is fighting in Iraq, when her convoy is ambushed by Islamic militants. The only survivor, she is held as a slave in one of Saddam’s bunkers, forced to deliver inflammatory speeches against the US and has to play nurse to injured militants fighting coalition forces. Her primary mission is to escape and it is during one of these failed attempts, she is raped. When she learns she is pregnant from the rape, she is stunned more than devastated, for various reasons. Her rapist Reed, insists she proceeds with the pregnancy, even though she’s already married, and even though, due to her inflammatory speeches against the US, she is now regarded as a terrorist and is on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. Having no choice but to do as he says, she is forced to rely on her dark and brooding rapist to help her with the baby and the pregnancy. They make a deal – she will have the baby and he will raise it. As time goes by, and the more time they spend together, she finds herself drawn to Reed and before long, they enter into a relationship which is far beyond sexual. For Reed, the attraction he feels towards Megan is a staggering betrayal towards his people. The moment her baby is born, Megan’s freedom no longer appeals to her as it means leaving behind both her lover and her baby. When the militants holding her captive threaten to take away her baby for ‘safekeeping’, she is forced to make a decision which leads to a series of painful and tragic events.
Eve Rabi is the author of 29 crime and suspense novels, three screenplays and more than half a dozen short stories. Inspired by the likes of Sidney Sheldon and Gillian Flynn, her tales are bold, scandalous, controversial. They’re also peppered with romance and humor. To quote an Amazon reviewer: “When you pick up an Eve Rabi book, forget sleep. She writes gripping page turners that will keep you reading till the very end.” In her spare time, Eve likes to dance like no one is watching. In fact, she also likes to eat like no one is watching.

CAPTURED – My Sworn Enemy, My Secret Lover (book 1) http://amzn.to/134MiAL CAPTURED: My Sworn Enemy, My Secret Lover (original book two, no longer in publication)
This is a self-published story about a female American soldier captured in Iraq and the events that take place while in captivity. The idea behind the story was very interesting and I managed to stay involved in order to find out what happened, but so many things are just wrong. I feel guilty about saying too much because the author really puts herself out there and has some really good ideas. However, the story reads like a rough draft that needs a really big fat red pen.
The most glaring problem (besides the typos) was the heroine. Couldn't stand her. She epitomizes the "tstl" label and is narcissistic at the minimum. The hero was more tolerable. He was suppose to be a hardened rapist but he was a beta. That being said, I can't see anyone as "together" as him falling for such a obnoxious ditz with such a pathological lack of maturity and insight. There were numerous of other characters that totally stuck out like a sore thumb and would've worked as comic relief, but I'm not so certain that was the goal considering the horrible things that happened because of them and to them.
There were many scenes that had no foot in reality and others that were just embarrassing. I wanted to save the author from herself (UGH! No! Don't put that in there!) You could also tell that the author wasn't from the US (she's Australian). There were a lot of "sassy" comments from the heroine that no real American soldier would ever make in a million years. Maybe a little research would've been helpful.
But I did read it. All of it. Like I said, she has some brave concepts which attracted me and would've really worked if she had an editor or a beta-reader to give her some honest feedback when something was off. A little reworking and rewriting and this could be a pretty good story.
There's a part two of this story. No promises that it'll find my nose in it any time soon but will have to if I want to know how this trainwreck plays out (That label isn't necessarily a negative. I happen to enjoy many a trainwreck). With regard to a recommendation? Read this if you want but just go in knowing that you have to overlook a lot of...just everything.

Megan Saunders is captured by the terrorists who killed her entire platoon. Ridiculed, tormented and frightened, she fights for her life against her jeering enemies who want her dead. Forced to take care of their wounded, she believes she has found a friend in Reed...the doctor who nursed Megan from the crippling jaws of death.
Until the unthinkable happens. Reed takes certain liberties that he had no right to take, forcing Megan to deal with an unplanned pregnancy. But as their baby grows in her belly, so does her feelings for Reed. Once the baby is born, Megan is torn between wanting to return to her beloved America and wanting to remain right where she is, with him and their son.
But when circumstances beyond her control leave Megan with her freedom but without the man and child that she loves, she finds herself fighting a new fight. Possibly one against her own country.

04 October 2012 Whew! This was one of the most original stories I have ever read. I loved it. Loved the romance and the way they fight their feelings, which is forbidden. I had to double check at one time that it was fiction because it did sound like a true story. It made me laugh, it made me mad, it made me gasp and it made me sad. This author is really gutsy to be taking on such issues and she goes there. I find that refreshing and interesting. I loved the humour and it played out like a movie. One the downside, it has a lot of violence, sex and lots of cussing, so if you're not into that, you may find it hard to handle. I guess it's a soldier we're talking about, so there will be all of that. Also some typos, but not enough to distract from the gripping story. Not as funny as The Wages of Sinead as this is a more serious story. A great read. Four and half stars because of some typos.
06 October 2012 Loved this book!!! I also read the 2nd book and it was just as good..It is so hard as a woman to imagine being a prisoner of war and be at the mercy of people who hate you and your country..The writer did a great job in keeping the story line going...I may read it again and I don't usually do that...
A Great Book June 6, 2012 By Skittles Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase After reading Gringa, I became an instant fan of this author and waited impatiently for Captured. I even emailed her asking when she was going to release it. It was worth the long wait. Book one - The story was wonderfully written and journeyed a soldier's time as a POW in the hands of Iraqi Militants. It was very graphic at times and made me wince. The Heroine Megan is funny with a bit of a foul mouth but, but loveable and very very forgiving. Perhaps a little too forgiving for me. The cast of characters were wonderful and entertaining , the bad guys were really bad and some moments in the book made me gasp. Eve Rabi has a tendency to go there and that's what I like about this author. Her books are not for the faint hearted It is a love story and a beautiful one at that. I read it all in one sitting because I couldn't put the book down. It is a story that will stay with me forever and I see a movie here cos it played out in my head like a movie. I had to double check at one time that it was fiction because it did sound real. I'm giving book one 4 stars, because of the typos etc. However, I only paid 99 cents for it and the story was by far one of the best I've read recently, so I didn't let the editing come in the way of a great story. I will definitely buy more from this author.

Yep, yet again, I was too engrossed to stop reading that I managed to stay up telling myself "just one more chapter" before bed. 2 hours sleep before work isn't really substantial but it was worth it. Was one of those books you can't put down! Can't wait to read the next one from this author.
This Review taken from Amazon I came across this book while searching for something to read, it was free, so I figured if I didn't like it, I wouldn't be out of anything. I loved this book. The love they share is amazing. I would of given this book 5 stars if the "love" sceens would of been better. With the cover of this book, I expected more in the romance department. Other than that, this is now one of my favorite books.
NB: Some of Eve Rabi's books may be free on Amazon and Smashwords
As I raced through the two volumes of this book at breakneck speed, I kept wishing I was an editor at a big publishing house. No, not because of the typos, though there were a few; but because I'd love to 'discover' Eve Rabi and hand her a million dollar advance. Because I feel in my gut that this could be the next big thing, the funny, female, 3rd millennium version of M*A*S*H.
Eve Rabi is an honest, natural story teller with an amazingly strong voice. Her characters are real people, so alive that the externals of setting and historical events seem unimportant. Her style is so natural, she seems unaware of the risks she's taking. For one thing, the whole story is told in the present tense, a tough stunt to pull off. It's like she's your best friend confiding in you about the terrible time she had and the sweet guy she met in the middle of it, and the even more terrible things that happened after that, not pausing to breathe or divide things up into convenient chapters so you can get a few hours sleep, for heaven's sake. But no, apparently she's never heard of chapters. Nor of giving the reader a rest between periods of suspense. On the other hand, what are you complaining about, when the heroine, an American POW in Iraq, has to endure months of incarceration, terror, and worse? I loved her ability to see both points of view, love with all her heart, and be funny about it all.
Book 1 is relentless in its action and hilarious one-liners. Definitely 5 stars. I'd give Book 2 4 stars, because it's slower, less funny and more harrowing than the first book.
As a piece of literature, this probably has a million flaws. But who cares? It's a terrific story, told by a terrific story teller. And isn't that what it's all about? I only need to add that this is not my usual read. It's full of four-letter words and really explicit violence and sex. When I'm reading adult fiction, Jane Austen is more my cup of tea. Genteel and well behaved, with a happy ending. This is neither (satisfying resolution, though), but it's very very human, funny, touching, likeable, absorbing, heroic, and altogether fascinating.
I absolutely loved this book. I loved the humor and the wit but I didnt quite like the violence. But I couldnt stop reading. It's a great love story, but if you're looking for a romance book, a typical romance book, you will find it way to graphic. But I couldnt put it down. Amazing. I love Eve Rabbi's books.
After reading Gringa, I was keen to read this book. I loved it. Loved the romance and the way it was built up. It was very beautifully done and I couldnt stop reading. Another book full of violence, sex, foul language but it all fitted in. Eve Rabi's humor is rife throughout the story, which I love. Not as funny as Gringa but equally moving. I recommend it.
this story was fantastic and kept me reading. It's forbidden love told with humor and sensitivity. I loved Megan's character - she's fiesty, yet caring. great book.
I just started reading books by Eve Rabi and I really love this one. I look forward to the reading the second one. The first books I read were the burn series, but they were a little rushed. This one happens to be a well put together one and keeps you enticed!
This was one of those books that immediately captures your attention and you are left on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. Megan is a soldier who is captured by insurgents and is forced to watch her friends die and live as a prisoner, not knowing what her future holds. Megan's hopelessness causes desperate behavior and soon she finds herself at the mercy of one of her captors who saved her life. Reed was a mystery for a lot of the book. He was not as evil as the rest of the insurgents and protected Megan even when it could have put his safety at risk. Megan gradually became dependent on Reed and his presence became her salvation even as her hope of freedom slowly became nonexistent. Her desperation and hopelessness was what made me sympathize with her character. She is put through so much and there were times when she almost gave up, but her heart pushed her forward. Megan met some crazy characters along the way that also gave her strength and added some comedy to the book. A woman who's practically a nun who smokes and swears and a transvestite in an insurgent camp- how can that not be funny? Reed was more of a silent hero for me. Although I didn't feel his character was as major as Megan's, his quiet presence was what made him likable. Megan was his second chance, even though their relationship was doomed from the start. They both needed that second chance and just when you think it's in their reach, it's ripped away from them. I loved the ending in the hospital. That was a tear-jerker when they had to pretend they didn't know each other. This book was different than the other Eve Rabi books that I've read, but it was a good change with a cliffhanger ending that will have you immediately downloading the next book in the series.
As a lot of other readers have already said, Megan was just one of those characters that was annoying to the point of 'oh God please let this be over soon'.
I really wanted to finish this and to see them get their HEA, but about 3/4 of the way through I just had this sickening feeling it wasn't going to happen. So I had to stop, put the book down, and read some spoilers. Sure enough there is an entire second book dedicated to Megan's idiocy. I'm just not going to make it through. I can't do it.
On a side note, if you are going to have a character say she was raped, you should probably write out the scene so that it actually looks like rape. The rape literally took place in one very vague sentence. And the entire time this was happening, rape never once popped into my head until she started saying it repeatedly after the fact. I was confused by that.
Also, as someone pointed out the Author is Australian. I think she probably should have just made the heroine Australian. I agree with what some others said about never having met a female American soldier who acted like that. I'm an American who has lived in Australia for six years now, and I wouldn't even attempt to write an Australian character to this depth, considering the vast language and cultural differences. That's just my two cents anyway.
The subject matter and premise of this book is unusual, and I was intrigued to know how the author addressed it. Eve Rabi produces a gritty and exceptionally emotional book. Her writing ability is extraordinary and as a reader I felt as if I was there with Megan for most of her ordeals. There is wry humor in the book to offset the seriousness and violence. At every turn I expected the worst for the heroine in the beginning of the book and yet she survives. This is also a raw, knife edge story with undertones of social comment about forbidden love, that will keep you turning the page to find out what happens next. Highly recommended, a modern and topical love story.
Well, that wasn't what I expected. I expected it to be like Gringa, which I loved, but it was actually kinda funny, believe it or not. I know, you wouldn't expect that with a story where the American female soldier is captured by Iraqi militants.
Reed: The hero and Arab doctor who is a really nice guy
Megan: American soldier and entertaining heroine
Now, this is a duology, so you don't get an ending unless you read book 2 (which I'll be doing). This book is probably pretty unique in the romance genre and despite the cover it's not actually erotica. Like Gringa, it probably isn't for everyone, but if you are the type to like weirder romances, you'll love this one.
WTF. Long book that ends in a f--king cliffhanger. This story just made me mad. I can understand the situation she was in. I don't understand why it's considered a romance. I understand war and that people die. But everyone except her lover and baby? They hit the place she was being held 5 minutes after she left with a bunker buster, really? A better end would have been hitting it before she left and someone sending her sister the story for closure. I will not waste any more time with this one. I only finished it this far because I won't leave a review for a book I don't read. Will put this author on my DO NOT BOTHER LOOKING AT LIST.
This is such a heart-wrenching story. So intense, it could really break my heart. From the beginning I could already feel anguish, sadness, weariness,...and everything sounds terribly terrific...I love it!!! Anyhow, it's much more complicated and serious..It deals with love in a different passion, showing love as something that could move in any direction..
I'm looking forward on how would Reed make it again. As for Megan and Wyatt, I sympathize. I feel like punching Damien, and all those heartless brutes..This is how carried away I am again with the story...
Another awesome book , between book 1 and 2 , i haven't slept the past 2 nights but did get a catnap in only after i finished each one lol.. Eve's books are addictive , i really don't know what i will do when i run out of eve rabi books..
So glad this book was free. The characters were inconsistent. The entire scenario was completely unrealistic. The typos were ridiculous. (One time, "shirt" was misspelled "shit." "I grabbed his shit." Um, ew. Haha.) I ended up skimming most of it instead of actually reading it.
This is the first book of the Captured series. I am still working on the second one and I must admit that the first one is far better than the second. Though sometimes the tone of this book gave me a feeling that this book was written by some amateur writer.
All I can say is WHAT A GOOD BOOK!!! Very realistic and emotional...I couldn't pit it down until the end. Now I'm going straight into book two. I hope that somehow every thing works out well for Reed, Megan and little Wyatt!
