I bought this since it was on sale and I wanted to read more books by woc. Given its premise, I din't expect to like it this much. A story about a stuffed animal being passed on from one person to another, telling each person's life story is nothing new. But, for some reasons, I really like it.
Some of Teddy's comments threw me off as it's based on traditional gender role/stereotypes (which makes you wonder how an inanimate object learn about these in the first place), but each person's life story is really heart warming and well-written. You have a character with disability, a character with mental illness & a character that has to deal with racism, etc. It's too bad that the story doesn't really feature any major characters with black or brown skin colour and the subject of racism is still about blatant racism rather than micro-aggression. Still, I'm surprised as I didn't expect to see subject such as racism or discrimination in a story like this.
Despite all the flaws I mentioned, I finished the book in one-sitting. There were also many parts in the book that almost brought me to tears (the old lady with Alzheimer's :'( ) so if you like a heart-warming story that isn't too cheesy or sappy, I'm pretty sure you'll love this one. I might get another copy in good condition to keep it on the shelf.
