OH wow!!! I can't wait to read more!!! Evangeline is a short story that will have you aching for more. It gives you a glimpse into the beginning of what's in store for for the Alexia's faerie series. I'm hooked!!!! This story introduces Evangeline (Evie) and her sister Jade. It also introduces the faery men they come upon and begin a life with. My heart broke about Jade's situation and I really hope that there is more of what is to come with her situation. I'm intrigued with Evie and how her life will be with Jack in the Land of Faerie. I want more and I will be reading this series as soon as possible.

I read the first book in this series last year, my first book from Netgalley (oh, the memories). However, I have since collected this prequel as well as the second book from Amazon/Smashwords and was planning on reading them for some time. Starting with Evangeline.

It's a very short story in which there isn't too much to be told. It's hard to really rate a short story without putting it in the bigger picture. However, I thought it was quite a nice introduction but for one thing: there was so much emphasis on the fact that she was different that it really annoyed me. Even though the story was very short.

I'm still planning to read the second book, Ever Fire some time soon.

Evangeline is a short prequel story to the Dark Faerie Tale series. The other books in this series are Ever Shade, Ever Fire, Ever Winter, The Cursed, Ever Wrath, History of Fire, Ever Dead and Legends of Fire.

What a short yet sweet story and prequel Evangeline turned out to be! It was amazing. It’s going to leave you with some questions, but I’m not going to say what or which they may be.
A story of Jade and Evie, love found and lost. Both sisters must face the “what happens” when they choose to ignore a warning.
The coming and goings of Evangeline will give some insight into this awesome series, while at the same time it leaves n opening for the series as a whole, from which it can and does flow from.
If you haven’t had a chance to start this great series yet, you really are missing out on some terrific reads. Take a look and see, you won’t be disappointed.
Author Alexia Purdy has a magical way of keeping you coming back for more. Thank you Alexia for creating your world of Fae for us as readers to escape into!!!

So I have never written a review so here it goes and i hope you guys take my word on how awesome this series is!! I totally found this book by accident!! They always say good things come to those who wait and I was defiantly waiting for a goodread !! This a prequel its about Evangeline and Jade. They are sisters and it just set the back scene for this series. It's about how they both fall head over heals with two men of faerie. Even though this goes against everything their mother taught them. But there is more than what meets the eye with these two men one is a King and thee other a super rare faerie. It for sure got the ball rolling for me it was short but thats what a prequel is ^_^!! I wanted to know more about these two girls and what was going to happen to them. Loved loved it!!!! Highly recommended!!

I loved it! I've never read this type of genre before. Alexia has done a marvelous job drawing the reader into the faerie realm I was definitely hooked by the third page of this short prequel to the Dark Faerie Series. I swear my bedroom disappeared and I was in the forest right along with the characters in her book, waiting with baited breath to see what was going to happen next. Alexia has a way with words and discriptions that quickly captivate you leaving you wanting for more details... more story..... that you just keep reading, not wanting the story to end.

The prequel was such a quick read and I was so enchanted by it, that I dug right into the next book.

Evangeline by Alexia Purdy
This is an amazing prequel that left me hanging on to know what will happen next. I can't wait to read Ever Shade is next next book in the series. The story flowed easily and the characters were great.
The story is about Evie and her sister Jade who both find love in unlikely place. They are both warned not to enter the Fae woods, but they did. This leads to future events that will leave Evie's heart-aching in a sad way. I will give this story a 5 star review.

What a GREAT little addition to the Dark Faerie Tales Series.

This is the Prequel of the Ever Shade. It's a Short about 55 Pages Long. It gives us the back storey of Jade and Evangeline past. It's Wonderful.

We get to see how Evie (Evangeline) Met Jack and Fell in love with him. We Also get to meet Verenis Shade's Father the Exiled King of the Summer Seelie Court and how he met and fell in love with Jade and Why he left Jade and Shade behind.

If you've read Dark Faerie Tales Series This Is A MUST READ!

In this prequel to Ever Shade (Dark Faerie Tales series) we are introduced to the magical world of Faerie.

Finding out some of the back story of the series that was only glazed over in Ever Shade and Ever Fire stories was very enlightening! It brought me closer to the characters!

And while I'm still not an avid reader of fantasy, this series is awesome! I would recommend it to anyone!

This is a short of how everything began for the Dark Faerie Tales. It gives you the outlook from where Evangeline and her sister Jade started and how they ended up where they are now. You also get to meet Jack and Verenis. Evangeline feels the Land of Faerie calling her and she can’t take the temptation anymore.

A great prequel to the series, this book gives you an insight to the style of writing used by the author. A short book that gives you just enough to make you want to know more about the characters and the storyline, you'll be diving straight into Ever Shade.

This reads like bad fanfiction for a series I've never watched or read. The lack of character depth, the sudden jumps in time, and the lack of reasoning/explanation behind the characters' actions all contribute to a sloppy, unenjoyable novella.

I will be skipping the rest of these books.

I read this prequel to Ever Shade because it was very short and I wanted to see if I thought I would enjoy this series. I don't think I will read the series. There were a lot of editing issues for such a short book and the writing style really didn't grab me at all. I just don't think this genre is for me.

I got this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

this was a short intro to the first 3 books. I am glad that i got to read this first so i understand now what is going on..

this book is about 2 sisters. One named Jade and the other named Evangeline a.k.a. "Evie". they lived together because their mother had died and jade being over 18 turned into the parent.

Jade is a human who has fire elements. a.k.a a fire witch. Evie is part faerie. Faerie's cannot be around lead. so Jade has to make up different things for Evie so she will stop having bad headaches. the only way to stop them is to go into the forest. their mother told them to never go in their.

one day Jade and Evie decide that they need to go to the forest. Evie instantly feels better. Jade let her roam around for an hour before she would look for her. Jade being a human it wasn't safe for her to be in Faerie land. Jade was met with a Faerie and then everything changes....

Evie also finds another person just like her. He also a faerie and had the fire element. they hit it off nicely. she would sneak away and met his family and was going to enter his world but wanted to tell her sister first... that was until her sister didn't remember who she was.. Now Evie had to hear the worst information of her life and decide for their what she was going to do with herself

So much story is packed into Evangeline by Alexia Purdy, its hard to believe how few pages there were. Two sisters, alone in the world, each with magical powers, one is a human fire witch, one is part fae. When they each find love, Evangeline must decide, to follow her heart and the pull of the land of the fae or to stay with Jade.

Alexia Purdy has set an amazing stage for this series, creating that special hook that leaves the reader wanting more.

It All Starts Somewhere

This series must be read in order. The first book is The Withering Palace. This is the second book.

This is an awesome beginning to what I am sure will be an addictive series! Jade and Evangeline are half sisters who grew up together in a house on the edge of faerie. They are both Elemental Fire Witches with one small difference... Evie is half fey. This causes her to get Iron Sickness and migraines and to constantly cravw the woods just outside their yard... Until one day the allure is too strong for her to resist so Jade and Evie venture forth into Faerie and their fates are sealed.... They just don't know it yet.

I really liked this book and I feel it adds a much needed layer of motivation for the characters in the later books. Without reading it I believe you would miss all the subtle nuances in the later books completely! I can't wait to start Ever Shade (A Dark Faerie Tale #1) next! This is definitely modern fantasy at its best!

***This series is suitable for adult readers who enjoy dark fantasy with a few dashes of horror and forbidden romance :)

{my thoughts} – This book is about two sisters Evangeline and Jade. They are both fire elemental witches. Evangeline however is part Faerie and her sister Jade is human. This causes some troubles for the girls when their mother passes away and they are left to co-depend on one another. Evangeline {Evie} has bad headaches that her sister Jade helps her to deal with but they both understand the only true way to make them go away is for her to go into the Faerie woods. Eventually she gives in and they go. At this point they both meet a Faerie guy in which they become involved with, however the one Jade meets has an odd belief in what a relationship truly means. If you want to know what happens to Jade and Evie you will need to read this short book. It is well written, it is engaging and it leaves you with a few questions.

{reason for reading} - There are three reasons for reading this book. The author had given me a copy in return for a review, I received a copy through netgalley in return for a review and I had downloaded it for free through amazon.

So much story in so few pages. I'm absolutely ensnared.

Evie is half Fae/half fire elemental (from what I gathered) and has always felt the burn of iron's influence over her while living with her family on earth. The time has come for her to make a life for herself in Faerie, and by fate's hand, she meets the one Fae destined to stand by her side and see her into the Fae warrior she was meant to be.

Jade is Evie'e sister, older by a year, and is half fire elemental/half human (again, from what I understand). She does not feel the draw that Evie does to Faerie, but nonetheless she is determined to stick by her sister's side. And the captivating, hunted Fae ex-prince makes her all the more determined to stay.

I am not sure what the timeline is for this book, but it seems years pass before things go awry. At the end of this prequel, Jade's Fae prince Verenis is forced to make a decision that will change the girls' lives forever. I am so curious to see what will become of his actions in the first book of the Dark Faerie Tale series.

Originally posted at Thinks Books!

For being a short story, Evangeline held volumes of emotion and provided much appreciated information for continuing the series. This short story delves into the tale of Evangeline, or Evie. Evangeline and her sister, Jade, both exhibit strong magical powers. However, Jade is a human witch while Evie is part faerie. The faerie in Evie is eventually called to by the forest. Jade, knowing how much it means to Evie, travels into the realm of the faeries with her sister so that she will be happy. Eventually, both sisters meet their match with faerie men. And, as the series title hints, the story of Evie and Jade becomes a dark faerie tale.

I read Ever Shade back in December 2012 and loved it. I am SO excited to be able to go through the entire Omnibus of A Dark Faerie Tale now. Thanks Netgalley!

5 stars to Evangeline.

This is a great short prequel to the Dark Faerie Tales series.

We met Evangeline in the first book in the series Ever Shade, and this is great back story. We already knew that Evangeline had a relationship with Jack, but this tells the story of how they met, though it doesn't explain what happened to end their relationship.

As I neared the end of the story I had a full on OH MY GOD! moment which I wont go into for fear of spoiling it for those who haven't read this or Ever Shade yet. Im now looking forward to reading Ever Fire to see if we discover any more of this back story.

The story is about Evie (Evangeline) and her sister Jade, who are fire-elemental witches. Jade is all human while Evie has faerie blood. The iron poisoning of the city does not bother Jade at all, but it makes Evie very ill. Jade takes Evie to the forest, where Evie meets Jack a fire and lightning faerie and wham bam she fells in love with him. In the forest Jade meets Verenis, a faerie prince in exile, and i’m sure you’ve guessed this – she fells in love with him. Verenis being hunted by the Unseelie army who wants to kill his faerie family and ruin his kingdom. Verenis has no other choice than to erase the memory of Jade (who is pregnant with his child) - her memory of him, as well as her memory of Evie and the rest of the faeries, to keep her safe from the Unseelie army and the Queen of the Summer Seelie Court.

The characters are inconsistent; the pacing is erratic; it hasn't been properly proofread; the setting is non-existent; the magic doesn't have discernible rules; nor does society have a discernible hierarchy. There is literally nothing to anything. This is probably the most half-assed piece of writing I've ever read.

I don't like to be so critical, but this has an average rating of 3.87. Higher than Carlos Ruiz Zafon's Young Adult novels. Higher than Prince of Thorns. Higher than 8 of Raymond E Feist's Riftwar Cycle.

I can't tell people what to like. I wouldn't dream of it. But I feel like somebody needs to say, "Hey, if you don't like your books to be vapid--would like them to have characters and a plot deeper than a puddle; writing that beats a 12-year-old's noodling--then this book probably isn't for you. Don't be fooled by 243 reviews pegging at as "Amazing."

This little teaser is the perfect way to get prepare for the rest of the Dark Faerie Series. I have been considering this series for quite a while, and when I had an opportunity to read this for free (Amazon Kindle)I was intrigued. I love the emotional entanglement already. My only complaint, as is usual with these short pieces, is that everything is on fast forward. You don't really get to see the evolution of the characters, nor really understand the connections between the characters because it is over so fast. I can't wait to make my way through the full length novel, and I hope it is not rushed!

I wanted to like this I really did. At first I did but as the short intro jumps from a visit to the woods surrounding Faery that introduces two male characters that the two sisters of course fall in love with, the next chapter jumps forward months that the sisters have been seeing these men. Evie the pure blood faerie is going to marry her man Jack. In the next chapter Jade the older sister is pregnant by her rouge Faery and has had her memory erased of all things Faery including her own sister. I would have enjoyed this more if there had been more story of the relationships. The lack of the detail felt jarring to me and incomplete.

I loved this romantic, fierce, well written short story that starts of the series and definitely made me want to read more!!!

The relationship between Evangeline and her sister Jade is a great one the rely on each other support and protection. They are each others only real family left. They both go to the woods, and Jade waits for Evangeline as she goes in and they both meet Faerie men. I have to say that I liked the relationships and the chemistry that was described this book, it was definitely a great beginning and I can't wait to read the next book Ever Shade in the Series!

I can't even call this a short story, it's just an outline where nothing really happens and none of the characters have a personality. Everything it told, not shown, and often will be explained after the fact and with no emotional impact. For so few pages, there is a lot of repetition, especially in regards to Jade and Evangeline's different magics. I got it, I didn't needed it repeated every other paragraph. I have the first book in the series, so I might give it a go to see if that at least is fleshed out, but this left me unimpressed.
