Human Nature! Does it ever change?!
The coming of the Glass caused fatalities and loss of infrastructure, requiring civilization to reform and to reconstruct.
Now, aliens are at the metaphorical doorstop, and they're not here to sightsee. Do humans put aside their differences and band together as a united front? Will those who use common sense to unite against the threat prevail, or be destroyed by the greed of selfish, murderous looters and territorialism?!

A few survivors gather to begin repopulating the planet
Something like huge glass boxes, the portals connected to other dimensions and times. And through these portals came armies of aliens. The atmosphere became toxic and billions of people died. Between one breath and the next, the people of Earth just died. Then the aliens left and a very few survivors started over. Why and how a few survived, able to breath the toxic air was as mysterious as how a few could pass through the "glass" to another world they called The Other Place.
Ransom and his daughter Chrissy banded together with a few other survivors to try to figure things out. What were the glass? Why did they appear and then mostly disappear again. There were a few left here and there, but mostly they were gone. The owner of a podcast had warned of something like this happening and when Cedric appeared again he filled in a few blanks. Not very many, and more mysteries than solutions, but he did know where a UFO was hidden and knew of a couple labs with information. The hunt was on! Finding more survivors and trying to find more led our protagonists from Monterey, CA to Lake Tahoe where their numbers are to more than a hundred. Along the way they picked up more survivors and found some who could enter the Glass and had been to The Other Place. Not only could the Glass open to other dimensions, copies of our Earth. Some of these copies were just like our Earth while others were wildly different. Meeting with travellers from another dimension and time, still more questions than answers, but one individual or group of copies of this individual - the podcaster Cedric - seemed to have some of the truth about the Glass. But crazy as he seemed to be, he had a UFO!
The characters are amazing! Very different, as groups of people tended to be, the Lake Tahoe group heard about a survivor group that had Tucson, AZ cleared, cleaned and powered. And there were hundreds of them! The storyline continues to wind around the core group with Ransom and Chrissy, Chris and Bean at the center. One of the Cedrics helps while an army of Cedrics dress as aliens and try to kill all the survivors! Oh, I get so confused! Besides trying to keep straight who is who, the Glass is the other character in the crazy storyline that drives me up a wall. But I have a feeling that the next book will straighten things out for me. I hope! This is a great read!

Apocalyptic tale of multiple worlds, UFOs, aliens, and time travel - 3.5 stars
The author embeds you next to a number of characters as they try to deal with other humans and aliens entering earth through portals called "glass" or "sheets". Realizing that the vast majority of the earth's people had died, it took a while to realize that there was a tenuous interconnected nature to the survivors.
Most of the survivors have had dreams with vivid pictures of future events. Their dreams help to identify the characters they had or will soon interact with. There were multiple copies of several main characters and even worse, different ages of the same people. There was a control unit for the glass that allowed the operator to specify both time and destination. Some people meet their younger/older instances. One egocentric person (Cedric) was able to convince almost everyone that he had good things to offer until they realized that he had tricked them.
Because the vast majority of the population had died quickly, the survivors felt justified in using items that the recently departed left behind. Starting with food and clothing, the survivors made use of cars, gasoline, weapons, and housing.
There were trips through the glass to visit other worlds and to try to find the primary location for the gateways of time and space as well as a few UFO trips in awkwardly small vessels. Heartwarming vignettes of people helping each other, finding love, and trying to wage revenge were the basis of the story. It was not easy reading.

This onion has many layers, plots, sub-plots, twists and turns. Our friends gradually pick up knowledge about the Glass and the technology which allows them to travel into other dimensions. They encounter variations of the earth in the cities, buildings and people (including themselves, even at a different age). They learn how the Glass originated and possibly how to control events. They begin to question whether Cedric is friend or foe, then find there are many more versions of him. The physical form of the aliens is different now; are they gathering for an invasion of the Earth?
Mr. Hystad has concocted a yarn containing a wide variety of people, with their attendant sub-plots, and vivid descriptions that make this like watching a movie. He then adds a variety of alternate Earths in multiple dimensions, with time warps, which really makes it hard to follow at times. Just when I think I know what is happening, someone passes through a portal to another dimension. Then the people in that dimension are the same people...but they grew up different, on a different lifeline, so they are a different age, and the characters are constantly adjusting to the differences. Thank goodness that Mr. Hystad has this under control! It kept me interested, trying to follow the twists and turns. I’m sure we’ll find it all comes out right in the end. Despite my occasional confusion, I’m greatly enjoying this series, and am eager to read the rest.

Too Ambitious
The first novel in the series was eerie, but the second, which develops the implications in the first, becomes confusing. The more the field of action expands, the more unlikely it appears that the cast of main characters should keep running into one another. In the world you and I inhabit, we would be lucky to meet twice a decade in Pittsburgh, but these people encounter one another by sheer chance in multiple dimensions time and again. It’s more bizarre than a Victorian melodrama.
Human beings are portrayed as unthinkingly xenophobic from the outset, responding with violence to any being that looks different and also to one another. Although reports from others suggest that some of these beings are themselves violent and wish to destroy humanity, this begins to look like a good idea after we see ourselves in action, and yet the more we see of the “villains,” the less hostile they appear.
I finally gave up reading, but not only because I lost interest in the action. The author’s abuse of language also repelled me. A few of the many malapropisms I recorded are the following: “amicable to [an idea]” (fond of / open to); to witness [rooms]” (to see); “sleep wrought with dreams” (i.e., fraught with dreams).

Well... I actually did not get to the end.
The story is practically impossible to follow (for me at least) The quick changes of locations, timelines, events, the characters and even different variations of characters, kept me falling out of the hole in the paper. Again and again I thought I was listening to one set of characters, only to find that I was in another place (no pun intended), perhaps another time, with other characters...
And it seemed to me that no matter where, when or with whom I was, everyone just ran around, not having a clue of what, how, where or when.
Two thirds in, we had gotten nowhere - at all, story wise.
So I found that I did not really care anymore what it was all about.
The strange thing is that I found myself fairly enjoying the parts of the story. The bits were enjoyable enough, in the short while the lasted, but the sum of the parts just did not add up to an enjoyable whole.
When realizing that, I gave up and quit the book. Sorry Nathan.
So I gave the story 3 stars, and one for R.C. Bray, who really tries to lift the story.

Undecided, he wondered if he should go there.
But the curiosity was too great...

The novel begins strong: a mysterious meeting with revelations. Then, we find the protagonists of volume 1 for the rest of their incredible adventures.
A sometimes complex reading, with a mixture of past, present, future and parallel worlds.
I sometimes had to go back a few pages in my reading.
Some revelations and a lot of mystery also in this volume 2.
I was captivated by my reading, often wondering what would happen next.
I really like the background story and the characters.
I might recommend reading book 1 before this one.
A series to discover for fans of the genre.

Back to the glass
Will and Peggy, Ransom and Chrissy, Drake, Britt and Sage are still trying to figure out how to remove the glass with the help of the man that brought them all together, Cedric. There’s many dimensions and many Cedric’s and everyone has to figure out which Cedric is the one that’s going to help them save their Earth and possibly several others.
At times it can get a little confusing with the multiple main characters and their alternate versions. There’s parts where the characters just seem to be running in circles and not accomplishing anything. I feel more time could have been focused on the hidden place - the labs and the other place - and then getting to their home as the ending.
My favorite team or couple is Peggy and Will. Young love always inspires hope. As I said, there’s several different main characters which opens it up to have different storylines to follow but it does diminish my interest in some of the storylines.

interesting story, not well edited
So I’ve read book one and now book two. The story has kept me interested, reminds me a bit of The Stand (by Stephen King). But the writing. The sentences are poorly constructed for the most part, and it can be difficult at times to know who is talking and to whom. I’m not a professional editor, but I can see many places where a slight tweak would greatly help the story to flow better.
Either way, I’m invested now, so on to the next book in the series!

What an interesting read. Pay attention as you read though. People are going back and forth through the Glass or Sheets, but they are going through different iterations of Earth in Time and Space. Easy enough to get confused. Oh yeah, and don't forget the aliens out there. But what a concept, eh. I loved it though. Thank you, Nathan Hystad, for another great read. Can't wait for the conclusion, although I am always sad to lose such comfortable friends I've gotten to know.

Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. Hidden Space massively lives to be an unforgettable sequel to The Other Place within visually brilliant different perspectives that keep shifting the various POVs into a web of complex questions that cannot be answered in just a single way. The vast cast that Nathan introduced remain as ever realistic people, enduring the bizarre mysteries brought by The Glass you can relate to in this one messed up story unfolds at a great clip. Highly recommended.

Great time-travel/ alternate universe sci-fi!
The Hidden Space, book 2 in The Glass series, continued to pull me through the pages as fast as I could read. It is a wonderful blend of good/evil, time-travel, aliens and a journey through alternative earths. I have come to care for the group of main characters and am anxious to discover what trials they will face next. I highly recommend it.

The Hidden Space
Book 2 in this series is all about people coming together and connecting. The situation with The Glass becomes much more complex and complicated.
We discover to some extent what has caused the Glass. This book brings to mind Stephen King’s The Stand in its interplay between the various characters, some good some bad and some that we still remain undecided about.

This series is a character driven, post apocalypse science fiction adventure that I am enjoying a lot. A real page turner.
There's a large cast with an ever changing storyline that is beautifully metered out. Lots of action with copious character development.
Book 1 was a great setup for this action packed, full length novel.
Looking forward to book 3.

Could be a bit confusing
The first part was again really good, it got a bit complicated after that with keeping ppl and times straight but by the end of the book I felt back on track again. I hope the 3rd part is the end if I have to wait I'll scramble the characters in my head if I don't conclude the series soon.

Sometimes confusing…
Many questions were answered but it got confusing for a while. Other times, it got a bit boring, but The Hidden Space didn’t fizzle out. Instead, it kept me turning the pages, eager to reach the end‘s cliffhanger.
I hope the next book wraps it all up in a neat bow. There doesn’t have to be a happy ending, just one that works.

The Hidden Space
Cedric is so frustrating. The vehicle rules and power I didn’t understand. However, I absolutely love how the aliens are still a mystery. This adventure is right up my alley. Like nothing I’ve read before and I like it that way. Keep it fresh and the bad guys are just plain ridiculous. I’m off to purchase the 3rd book. Thank you

A whirlwind!
This all will make sense when you read the books. Book 2 has multiple realities, planes of existence, species (human & alien), catastrophic events, repeatedly, deaths, coming back to life, cloning, super alien powers, disasters, love stories, and a nuclear bomb? It doesn't get more exciting and unpredictable as this. What a Read!

Requires lots of attention
I enjoyed book two, but wow one must keep track of so much. Various dimensions, multiple versions of the characters made it a lot of work. But it was indeed a good read and an intriguing and fascinating story. I am looking forward to finishing with book three.

The first book in the series was quite good. The second book has gaps which generate confusion. Perhaps this was done intentionally. Started the 3rd book last night. Maybe I’ll find out what the song Lisbeth keeps humming but now she’s dead.

Well worth the time
Great continuation of the Glass story. Unexpected turns and entertaining. Sure a good vs evil end of times but with a great twist. Nathan never disappoints and I would recommend this series. On to book 3.

Excellent!
This is one of those books that you cannot put down. When you do, your soul screams NO! More! I stayed up last night reading and spent all day reading too.

This story just keeps getting better and at one point I thought I had guessed what was going on, nope not that but the author knew it would be an option and wrote it in as a red herring. great series.

January 19, 2023Waaaaaaayyyyy Tooo convoluted. Hard to read because of the large assortment of characters jumping around into various scenarios.

A lot of stuff makes sense now. A lot of traveling across the country, across the planes, even across time. NEED MORE!!!
