Celeste has always felt like an outsider – moved around by her loving adoptive parents to new towns and schools frequently. This latest move is different though – as she approaches her seventeenth birthday, Celeste begins having nightmares and hearing voices in the night, and why does the gorgeous boy Rylan keep staring at her like that?

On her birthday, it is finally revealed that Celeste is one of the Tuatha de Danaan, gatekeepers between the worlds and controllers of the Sidhe. Things only get more strange as she discovers more about who she is and what she is capable of.

Rua is quite different to other stories of the Fae that I’ve read. I think it was the American small-town setting rather than a Celtic-inspired fantasy world that felt so different. The characters were quite detailed and had realistic reactions to the supernatural events. I especially loved Celeste’s new bestie, Tink. What’s not to love about a gay witch with a big heart?

The supernatural elements were introduced fairly gradually which created some fantastic suspense throughout the story. The romance between Celeste and Rylan was very swoony but moved a little fast for me – I felt it was bordering on insta-love which is a bit of a shame considering how much I loved the rest of the story. We also never really find out the extent of Rylan’s powers or hear much of his back story.

The only major problem I had with Rua was that it was too short! I really hope Miranda Kevi intends to expand more on this world – this promising debut has laid a great foundation for more tales of the Tuatha de Danaan and the other supernatural beings mentioned. I’d recommend Rua to anyone who enjoys YA paranormal romances, and I’ll be looking out for Miranda Kavi’s future work with great interest.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review and should admit the cover drew me in more than the summary did. It's gorgeous and, surprisingly, perfectly matches the heroine and her power.

Orphaned at birth and constantly moving around with her adoptive parents, Celeste Shreeve has never settled roots or known them. She doesn't mind, though. She has never been found wanting—her adoptive parents love her like their own, she likewise feels the same, and she's mature enough to understand why they need to move for her father's job.

But when she meets the gorgeous, mysterious Rylan at her new school and he asks her if she's one of "them," Celeste must learn who and what she is, along with where she came from—not exactly a new concept within the YA Paranormal genre, but Rua did offer a different twist on the Celtic mythology of the Tuatha Dé Danann and Sidhe that I liked.

I also enjoyed the relationships in the story. There's no doubt of the love between her and her parents, the loyalty of her new (and gay) best friend Tink, or the draw she has to the hot Rylan—though the latter was a bit too fast and typical, in my opinion. While the make-out sessions were great, I didn't know how I felt about him. He wasn't as well developed a character as Tink to really form an opinion. He has black hair, brilliant green eyes, etc. etc. (as Celeste kept noting), but there wasn't much revealed about him, his past, or ... anything. He kind of felt like a prop or an errand boy. He was also a bit too perfect in his reactions that he begun to feel like a Gary Stu.

The editing needed a little more work, as well, but I've definitely read/seen worse, and though the length was much too short, I do appreciate how the author used every event and character—nothing was included for mere filler.

Still, I'm hoping for more world-building in the next book. I'm intrigued enough by Miranda Kavi's version of the Fae that I do intend to read it.

This book was so different that I didn't know what to expect. I thought this would be your everage Sidhe book. Well boo-hoo for me because it totally wasn't what I thought it would be. However, it was great.
Celeste was a pretty average heroine but she was easy to relate to. I loved her relationship with her parents. It was really refreshing to see a heroine that has a close relationship with her parents and isn't somehow scarred by terrible parents or a lack of one. I thought she might be weak because she wouldn't really handle things head on at the beginning but I was wrong halfway through the novel she really stepped it up.
Tink... okay so he is not the love interest but he was so amazing that he deserves his own paragraph. He was the perfect friends and well this guy was hilarious. In short Tink is like one of my favorite characters.
Rylan, oh Rylan. I liked you then I hated you( but kind of still wanted you) but then I loved you, so its all okay. He was really sweet towards Celeste and I loved how he wasn't willing to really trust anyone. It was a totally good move on his part since it saved Celeste's life in the long run. I want to know if there is some sort of a deeper explanation for their attraction. It wasn't insta-love or anything but I just have that feeling that there might be something paranormal to their love.
I did not expect what happened in the plot. Actually I guessed totally opposite of what happened. ( That kind of surprised me because usually I'm pretty correct :) so yes the plot is amazing )

I wasn't sure what the heck was going on at first. Celeste has been having nightmares. The closer to her seventeenth birthday the more weird things happen and she thinks shes loosing her mind. She hears voices and there are swarms of black birds following her around, blinding headaches when the new boy Rylan looks at her.Of course it all comes out as to who and what she is. It was all described and seemed very cool.

This was really easy to get into and I flew through it. I loved Celeste, she didn't come off as an annoying character at all. Then there is the mysterious Rylan and frankly he is still a mystery. Yes you know who and what he is but he just has this mysterious air about him. But I adored Tink! Tink is Celeste best friend. He is so funny and sweet. There better be more of him in the next book.

Overall this was a good read, has some action some romance and a little bit of world building. Even the ending with baddie who really isn't all bad just desperate was easy to see right away but it didn't take away from the story for me. I look forward to more adventures with Celeste, Rylan and Tink.

Didn't finish. I can only handle so many stereotypes at a time. The whole bad boy interested in you, then randomly flirt with mean girl and it hurts you angle. The instant best friend who happens to be gay, but wait, a super stereotypical gay guy who also is a Wicca just when you need one and has no other friends? Really? Not a single other friend?? What is this, the 80's? Oh oh, and she is adopted. and dangerous. and probably some royalty or some shit- i dont know cause i couldnt read any further. Seriously. And she has purple eyes- cause isnt that cool and unique- no actually it isnt. that eye color angle is played in several other ya novels already. Barf. And it is only 200 some pages long- for 2.99 my kindle has seriously let me down today. :((

Three Stars: A paranormal read with something new and different.

Celeste grabs her backpack and heads out the door with her parents good wishes. She is starting her first day at a new high school. At sixteen she is used to moving around and she is always the new girl. Things go better than than planned when she immediately and unexpectedly makes a new friend, Tink, amiable, outgoing and gay.

Then she catches the eye of a handsome new boy, Rylan. Yep, it was a great first day, but soon the euphoria fades because as her seventeenth birthday draws near, she begins experiencing terrifying nightmares. Then the school parking lot is assaulted by a flock of birds that line the streets and lead straight to her home. The moment she turns seventeen, strange events occur and she learns that she has a strange and unique heritage. Can she figure out just what she is and fulfill her role?

What I Liked:
*I enjoyed that Ms. Kavi brought me a paranormal read with a unique flavor. I won’t go into details, but the supernatural touch here is unexpected and different from anything I have encountered. I liked that she brought me something original.
*This book features a character that absolutely wriggled right in and stole my heart. Tink jumps right in during the first chapters and easily wins over not only Celeste but the reader. He is gay, and completely open about it. He is fun, charming, an awesome best friend and there isn’t anything about him not to like. I thoroughly enjoyed his character. He manages to always steal the scene. Not to mention he has a few tricks up his sleeve!
*I appreciated that this book features a set of parents who are very involved in their daughter Celeste’s life. Not only are they caring, protective and engaged, but they are Celeste’s adoptive parents and they are African American while Celeste is of Irish descent with red hair and fair skin. It isn’t often in the YA genre that you find parents that are an active participant in the story line, and to have the added uniqueness of different heritage and adoptive makes them even more interesting.
*I liked that this book was a quick easy read and the story moves along. It is one you could easily pick up and read in one sitting. It also has a lot of surprises and action.
*The cover is absolutely stunning. I love it!
*This is a bargain as an ecopy can be purchased on Amazon for $2.99.

And The Not So Much:
*The biggest complaint I had with this one is the lack of detail. While the brisk pace is nice, it moves so quickly at times that it tends to skip or gloss over important details. This book would benefit by a slower pace and taking time to expand and explain important aspects.
*Rylan is a problem for me in that he is there to immediately explain everything and lead Celeste down the path to discover her destiny, but I had so many questions regarding him. First, he is a halfling, half human, half paranormal, but there is little detail on the how and why he came to be. He says he came from “an unholy union”, but what does that mean? Where are his parents? He seems to live on his own. I just did not get a full appreciation of his character.
*There is a bit of mean girl flair in this one, which I am not a fan of, but thankfully it seems to be resolved by the end, and it doesn’t get too over the top nasty.

Rua is a quick read full of different and unexpected paranormal entities. This book introduces us to a new world of possibilities and paves the way for expansion into a series. It also introduces us to some memorable characters and thought provoking ideas.

Favorite Quotations:

“The thing glanced up at the sound of his voice. She twisted her face into a sick copy of a smile. She crouched down and held out a shadowy hand, complete with long, black fingernails. She put her palm up and bent her fingers forward twice in rapid succession. An invitation.”

“Tink snickered. “It’s okay, Mrs. Shreeve. My room is a hot mess, and it irritates my mom because she thinks gay boys are supposed to be extra clean.”

I received a copy of this book as part of a tour and I was not compensated for my review.”

Okay, I admit it was the cover that caught my attention. Add in the great synopsis and I was totally pining to read this. I was pretty confused for a little while, but the characters were so awesome that it didn't really bother me. I knew that things would start to make sense. This was a very interesting story and I really enjoyed it. I know the whole new girl at school thing seems totally overdone, but putting that aside, this book was really great.

Lets start with Celeste. I really liked her. She is adopted by a loving awesome family (bonus, the parents are actually a part of the story, not just forgotten somewhere in the background) and unfortunately moves around a lot. Starting a new school is nothing new to her. I liked that she wasn't whiny or pouty about it. Her first day she meets and becomes BFF's with Tink (Tony is his real name) and he is fabulous!! She really bonds with him and I loved their friendship. As things get really weird with her, like hearing voices, having massive amounts of birds following her, and seeing weird things, she opens up to him and being the awesomesauce person he is, he is there for her and doesn't think she is crazy at all. What I loved the most about her is her sense of self. She wasn't worried about impressing anyone (except maybe Rylan) and she never really thought about who her "real" parents were because it never mattered. Even when it becomes important, she doesn't really want to know.

Rylan is something else. He obviously is the super hot charming boy who she can't help but drool over. He also happens to be a bit anti-social and apparently a new kid too. He has been there for a few weeks, but hasn't talked to anyone until Celeste shows up. Now this boy has got some secrets too. He knows about Celeste's secrets even before she does. He is really cryptic with her at first, but he really wants to help her. more than that, he wants to protect her and be with her. He will do anything he can to make sure she is safe.

The other characters were great too. As you already know, I loved Tink. He is the perfect friend even before he and Celeste know each other well. It's like right when they meet, they just click and it's like they have always been friends. Then her parents are really great too. I liked that they were very present in the story. They don't play a major role in anything really, but they are there and I enjoyed that. Then of course there is always the mean girl that you totally hate. Yup, Jennifer was that girl. I couldn't stand her. She hated Celeste from the first second for no reason at all and that just bothered me. I get that she is the pretty popular girl, but the fact that she calls Celeste a loser and treats her bad before she even knows her is a bit much.

This book was great. It moves at a pretty steady pace for the most part. At first it had me a bit confused, then there was a bit of an info dump, but the rest of the book flowed nicely. We pretty much discover things as Celeste does since we are in her head. I really enjoyed the plot, and how everything unfolded. The relationships between Tink and Celeste and the one between Rylan and Celeste were great. I liked that the relationship that formed between her and Rylan developed slowly. It wasn't just like oh, let's get together!! There was plenty of frustration and build up. I loved the elements of the story too. Besides the magic, the action, and the romance, I thought that the friendships and family relationship were fantastic too. I really hope that this is a series because after reading this I want more.

This review was originally posted at Pages of Forbidden Love

From the moment the book started I knew I was going to like this book because I could already tell I would love the characters. Celeste is a bit different than every other female lead in a YA book, she likes the night and seems to be alright with being alone since she moves so many times every year to a new state. She was sort of a loner that didn’t conform to the rest of the teen phases. Plus she gets to meet Tink early on and I absolutely loved his character. I love when authors add in a gay guy to be the best friend, or new best friend as the case is with this book. Tink knows that he is different too in this teenage world they both live in and I loved watching their friendship grow over the course of the book. Lets just say the book would not have been the same had there not been a Tink. Oh and how could I forget the leading man Rylan. I did like Rylan but I feel as if his character was hidden a bit in this book. It seemed like we could never really learn enough about him.

One thing that did bother me was the fact that Celeste fell for Rylan a bit too fast. Within the first few chapters she was already wanting to be all over him and thinking that he belonged to her when he was dating a different girl on campus. I’m not a fan of instant love in teen books and I felt that the instant love weakened the book and Celeste in my mind, she could have held strong and slowly fallen for Rylan like an adult, since she practically is one at 17. Plus the romance felt at times gooey and overly lovey dovey like the romance between 15 year olds and at other times it was more grown up since Rylan and Celeste do have some intense make out scenes where they act like they are in a more mature relationship

While the characters were great to read about there obviously is a plot line to go along with them. The plot line was something interesting, it started out a little darker with dark spirits and birds following Celeste no matter where she went and she was having nightmares about what those things could be doing to her. She knows that something is going to happen in a week on her 17th birthday, she just has no idea what that could be. Once she gets her powers the storyline really picks up because Celeste has to figure out what on earth she is suppose to do now that she is not a normal teenager anymore. I felt at times the book went from the darker storyline to a lighter plot without any warning. I guess I would have liked the plot to stay a little darker, to be just a bit more mysterious. It was still a good plot but it could have used a bit more detail to round it out a little better.

Overall, I have to say I really enjoyed this book. I do wish there was a little more to the storyline but I guess that is what book two will be for, and I for one will be sticking around to see what happens next. I need to know more about Celeste’s powers and how the whole gang is going to move forward after what happened at the end of this book.

Since the summary doesn't say too much about it I'm going to do a quick walktrough without spoilers so don't worry.

First we have Celeste, our main character that, due to her dad's job is used to move from city to city a lot. Meaning no friends to bond with and no real place to call home. But her adoptive parents are amazingly cool and loving so she doesn't care that much.

Gladly for her she became friend with Tink, a sweet and caring guy that sadly for her was also very gay.
And in her very firstday of school she met Rylan. A sexy, misterious guy that was also new. But the most intriguing part is what he says to her when they first talk: "You are one of them, right?". And trust me, Celeste was as puzzled as you are right now.

And right there something becomes very clear. During her 17th birthday Celeste is going to change somehow. And the creepy dark figures that she spots around her, the black birds following her around and her misterious headaches whenever she is close to Rylan have a reason.

Who is she and what is happening to her? Why is it that Rylan is always in her thoughts? Why is he with Jennifer, the prettiest girl in school, when he is always looking at Celeste? And what is Tink's real name?!

Personal opinion:
First, I have to point out the obvious. That cover is freaking beautiful!!! I love everything about it, from the colors to the design and so very thought full, 'cause, just in case you wonder, the cover fits perfectly the plot ;) As always Phatpuppy Art did an amazing job!

Rua was, no doubt, a very interesting, quick and cool read. Actually, I finished it in a couple of hours without stop. And that can also mean I liked it a lot.

The characters felt very real and were very diverse which I appreciated a lot. The fact that I had to move a lot when I was younger for my dad's job helped me connect with Celeste much more and I understood her way better.

My favorite character was of course Tink. I mean, a guy with a nickname like that can only be awesome, right? He is, I'm telling you. Friendly, funny, caring and loyal, what else would you need?

And then we have Rylan, the swoon worthy guy. With him I'm not sure what I feel. And don't get me wrong, once we get to know him the guy seems perfect. Sexy, protective, with a few secrets of his own and willing to help Celeste no matter what.
But there is something, you know? Something that makes me nervous and for the live of me I can't wait to read the sequel 'cause, there has to be a sequel, right?! I sure hope so!

I had to add this book to my 'Favorites' shelf -- it was enchanting!
First things first: I received this book for free from the author through my Goodreads book club, in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. All thoughts and conclusions are my own.
The tale begins with Celeste, who is a soon-to-be-seventeen year old girl living with her adoptive parents. Due to her dad’s job, her family has had to move a lot, and Celeste has become used to being “the new kid”. Right before her 17th birthday, she and her family move to a small town in Kansas where she begins again in a new high school. She is immediately befriended by a young man called ‘Tink’, who has a flamboyant personality and a penchant for cute boys. Tink notices something different about Celeste right away, and no matter what kind of crazy things get thrown at him he stays right by Celeste’s side. Celeste becomes enamored of a hottie named Rylan, who is dark, mysterious and SOOOOO dreamy.
Leading up to her 17th birthday strange things start to happen, and Celeste knows that something BIG is getting ready to go down…and apparently Rylan knows what it is, because he is giving her cryptic answers and furtive glances. Flocks of ravens line the trees around Celeste’s house, and seem to follow her wherever she goes. Strange shadow shapes show up in her bedroom, and she hears disembodied voices pleading for her to ‘open the door, Rua’. Is she losing her mind, or is she a part of something magical?
I can honestly say that I don’t have any complaints about this story! I thought it was very well written, the characters were believable, and the adventure was nail-bitingly close. I absolutely love the character Tink – so often in YA novels you see the obligatory gay character, and they are portrayed as so over-the-top that it just seems completely unrealistic. However Tink is written as a strong male lead, and one who is unfailingly faithful to his new friend Celeste. Rylan is exciting and dark, and completely delicious. Celeste is a very dynamic female with the ordinary flaws and insecurities of any normal 17 year old girl, but one who also knows that she has an inner strength that will see her through whatever comes. I would love to read more about the world that author Miranda Kavi has created, and I hope that she continues to narrate Celeste’s new journey!

So here's another one of those indie books that was recommended to me! (By Lisseth at Read-a-holicz this time) And then, of course, majoy cover love! I love the purple and the designs and how wonderfully it portrays the book!
Something I've noticed in indie books is that...well, I'll write a Random Musings post for that! Expect it sometime in Nov!

Anyways, what I did like: Plot and creep factor!

What I didn't like: The romance.

What was iffy: Characters and world building.

The characters were definitely amusing and I loved each their personalities! Especially Tink's. He was just hilarious and I loved how supportive he was, but it irritated me how quickly he became friends with Celeste. Within a day he was already doing all this stuff for her, protecting her and it was just...oh so very unrealistic. And then there was also that stereotypical vibe each character gave off. I mean, they each had different awesome personalities...but they acted like stereotypes. Tink was gay and he was so extremely girly and was literally acting like a girl in a guy's body. And then Rylan had that whole mysterious/know-it-all love interest who was instantly attracted to Celeste...and it...wasn't...good.

The world-building, while it dived more in depth in world-building than most indie books I've read, it still didn't explain WHERE it came from. Why are there only five Tuatha? Why did they have a nature connection? Why only one? But there were a few explanations; just not enough to completely satisfy my curiosity. But the world was definitely interesting and had a lot of potential! I just wish we could've dived deeper into it rather than grazing the surface.

The romance was very insta-lovey and that annoyed me to no end. Rylan wanted to kiss her "ever since he laid eyes on her" and Celeste was attracted (VERY attracted) to Rylan within the first day. And it was just...really really annoying for a girl who likes slow and steady. So...romance...not for me.

Now the PLOT was amazing! At least, near the end it was. There were a few plot twists, but nothing very major or anything that completely shocked me. In the beginning there were so many creepy things that happened and I absolutely loved that! The Sidhe in Rua aren't exactly...fae/fey...more...Otherwordly. You'll see what I mean! But the plot was really the only thing I actually liked, I'm sad to say.

After finishing Rua by Miranda Kavi I can easily say I am such a fan now, I will deff be picking up anything Miranda writes in the future after reading Rua. This book completely had me hooked from page one till the end, Miranda creates a new paranormal that is immensely captivating.

Celeste is just a normal girl. Or at least she likes to think she is, she may have purple eyes, and crows following her, but that doesn’t mean she’s not human right? As more and more strange happenings go on around Celeste she can no longer deny that she is not like other people, and the new mysterious boy with intense green eyes may be able to tell her what she is..

When you find out your own kind and ancient powerful beings want you dead, who can you trust?

What a refreshing read Rua turned out to be, going into Rua I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I have to admit. This book took me by total surprise! Miranda has come out with a wonderful debut novel, full of magic, thrill, romance, and mystery.

When it comes to the characters I thoroughly enjoyed them! Although it did have the whole mean girl and gay best friend like a lot of other YA novels do I still found the characters unique and enjoyable. You have Celeste our main character who although she is scared, she will face her fears head on to save the ones she love, you have Tink (it’s his nickname…Tink is my puppies name so that was a bonus! Ha) who is Celeste’s best friend who is always there for her, you have supportive and loving parents from both Celeste and Tink, and then there’s Rylan…the mysterious hot guy at the school! At first when confronted with Rylan I didn’t really like him, mainly because he was too confusing and I didn’t really ‘get him’ but when I continued on reading I ended up loving him! He is an amazing love interest and I cannot wait to read more of him and Celeste in book two.

Overall if you’re looking for something fresh and new, that has an intense romance (and is amazing) Then I would recommend Rua to you, Miranda Kavi is an amazing new author that will not disappoint.

First, can I say that I love this cover? Colors are so pretty! Okay, that off my chest, I have to say I did enjoy this fae tale. Many of the elements within the book did surprise me. First, other than the mean popular girl, there were some stereotypes that were turned on it's ear. I really enjoyed that, especially how Celeste's human family came about. I am so happy to see that, since I just love it when people play with perceptions like that. It also didn't expound upon this turning either. It just stated it and moved on. Another point to the author.

I did enjoy the characters. Celeste and Tink were my favorites. I just LOVED Tink. I loved how strong Tink was despite having to deal with prejudice in his past for being gay. Oh and he is such a sweet and loyal bestie, you wonder if he could be friends with you. I also loved Celeste and she complimented him pretty well.

I did have a few minor problems with this book. One was the mean girl. I get how she fit into the story, but the section where she was bulling Celeste just didn't fit in with the story as a whole. I mean I just couldn't feel that intimidated by her when Celeste is fearing fae that could destroy her. You could lift that section out, and I would have liked it more. Also, although in this case I didn't mind the insta-attraction Celeste and Rylan felt for each other (in some ways it made sense), I just didn't feel like I totally trusted him. So, his behavior in the later part of the book gave me pause. Nothing serious, but I would have liked to perhaps really get to know him before I felt our heroine was safe to fall for him.

I give this book 3 stars. It ends with a twist I think you'll like. Even though I thought it could still use a bit of tightening up with editing, it still reads very smoothly and your time goes fast. It's fun read and I do want to know what comes next for Celeste and her friends.

I have a very good opinion about ''Rua''. I didn't think that I could like it so much. Seriously, Miranda created a beautiful story and I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to read it.
The description was short and I guess that's why I was so interested in the book. But I think it's better that way, because it makes you want the book more.
Before I start to write the resume, I want to tell my opinion about the cover. It is so beautiful and it is definitely one of my favorites. Those colors look amazing on it.

The main character is Celeste, an almost seventeen years old girl. But she isn't exactly a normal one. Not when she moves in Kansas with her parents and weird things are starting to happen. Like being followed by black birds, hearing whispering voices or having purple light coming out of her body.
At least she has a friend - Tink - and she can always count on him. Tink is a very important character in the book and he is very funny and sweet. But he isn't the boy Celeste wants.
And now we can talk about Rylan and how he stole Celeste's heart from the first moment. He is hot and he is exactly what every girl wants. Rylan and Celeste weren't so close from the first moment. It took some time till they realized that they love and need each other. And they had some pretty intense moments together.
From now on, Celeste and Rylan must pass through some difficult obstacles. A strange creature called Fayga is haunting her and kidnapping two of her friends.
Celeste must save their lives before it isn't to late. Will she find the power to destroy Fayga? You have to read the book to find out.

Overall, ''Rua'' is a good book and if you have the chance to read it, don't miss it. You won't be disappointed.
Thank you, Miranda, for giving me an e-copy of your book. I really enjoyed reading it.

This was a great YA fantasy novel

The summary: This story is about a girl who just moved to a new town and a new school. There she meets Twink and they become best friends. As her birthday approaches strange things start happening around Celeste and with the help of Twink she understands that something is gonna change on the day she turns 17. She also meets Rylan who is mysterious and handsome and makes Celeste feel like she never did before, even when she tries not to like him. Celeste and her two friends start an adventure to figure out how to deal with the changes she experiences.

The plot: The plot was flowing very well and i didnt get confused. Sometimes I feel YA novels can have too many twists that can make the novel more complicated than it should be. I loved Rua because the plot was interesting and it developed nicely. I liked the twist at the end.

The characters: Celeste wasa very relatable protagonist and I really liked her. She was a lovable main character and she developed in the novel. She wasnt flat and dealt with the changes upon her without much drama which was nice for a change. Twink was an awesome side kick! I loved him and I hope he gets developed further in the next novel because he has a lot of potential. Rylan is a good love interest and I liked him most of the time but I still have my doubts about him. I feel like he has a dark secret and I want to see where the writer goes with the development of his character

The writing: As I mentioned before the story is simple and easy to follow and i loved it! It is a perfect easy read to relax. I got really involved in the novel and finished it in 2 days. I loved the descriptions and the reference to Celtic mythology.

Overall i think Miranda Kavi did an amazing job with Rua and I cant wait to read the sequel!!!

A Write to Review

Note: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Celeste's life takes a mysterious turn when she moves to a quiet Kansas town and starts attending a new school. Strange occurrences begin to unfold around her – she hears hushed voices, endures vivid nightmares, and finds herself constantly followed by swarms of blackbirds. These unsettling experiences intensify her connection to the enigmatic Rylan, another newcomer harboring secrets of his own.

As Celeste reaches her seventeenth birthday, her world takes a surreal twist. She awakens to find her room filled with strange creatures, her hands emanating purple light, and Rylan breaking into her bedroom through the window. It is at this moment that Celeste learns the truth about herself, about her unknown destiny.

I liked the development and progression of the story but I thought that there seemed to be a lot left out. Explanations for certain things were vague and the story was kind of choppy in parts.

The character of Celeste never really did anything for me, I did not find her particularly inspirational or even that strong, I felt like she was too one-dimensional. Rylan was kind of the same with a vague past and personality. Tink on the other hand was one of my favorites, his personality was like bam in your face and hilarious, and he did not try and hide anything.

I was intrigued enough by this book that I think I will continue to read the series but it needs to be developed more.

This book was effortless for me to fall into. Kavi’s style of writing is easy to follow, steady paced, and I found myself falling in love with the setting. I enjoyed the introduction of Gaelic lore. I love the culture and it’s a beautiful language. I only wish I knew more of it myself.

Now I wouldn’t exactly say this book was extremely amazing, but it was definitely a light and pleasant read. The characters are easy to fall in love with, especially the two handsome guys, Rylan and Tink. Who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by two guys all the time? Worry not; there isn’t any love triangle here, Tink happens to be the awesome bestie, while Rylan is the mystery we still can’t figure out. Although we happen to find out what he is, I don’t believe we have truly figured out who he is. This is hopefully something we get to learn about further in the second installment.

The only thing I wasn’t fond of was the passage of time in the first half of the book, or rather lack thereof. It seemed the characters’ relationships advanced a little too fast for just one week. The relationships themselves felt fine, but I think if there could have been just a little more time that transpired in between some of the dialogue it may have helped them have more depth and feel more realistic in the beginning.

All in all, I think this is a job well done for Kavi’s debut. If you are looking for a quick and pleasant read, look no further; Rua is it. I look forward to the next installment and can’t wait to see the cover release (this one was gorgeous!).

I am thankful the author gave me a copy for an honest review.

This book was a very intriguing different take on Faes! I loved the humor, relationships and the dark spin culture woven into this amazing story!!!

Celeste is adopted, and is close to her seventeenth birthday. She has beautiful red hair and violet colored eyes. She looks nothing like her adopted parents and knows she is adopted. She has just moved to a new town and is going to a new school. She meets a great friend who goes by the nickname Tink. I loved the banter between these too. Strange things start happening to Celeste as her birthday approaches.

A boy she is drawn to in school is Rylan but when she sees him she gets a headache and passes out. He picks her up and takes her to the nurses office. There is something different she can sense about him, plus he is the hottest boy she has ever seen.

Black birds start to appear and shadows at night, plus her headaches are getting worse Celeste is getting scared that she doesn't know what is going on and who to trust. Rylan comes to her and says he needs to talk to her and that time is running out.

Soon Celeste learns about who she is and that she is no ordinary girl and that she has a very important role to fulfill. With these responsibilities comes great dangers and many enemies.

I loved this story it was very original and I can't wait to read Rive and see how the story concludes with Celeste training and coming into her full potential as a Tuatha!

Rua...I love the cover..its so colorful and bright and is perfect with the story.

It's a very short, fast and easy read.
Celesta just transferred to a new town with her adopted parents and is trying to fit in high school..all she wants is to be invisible and done with her school. But little did she think her life is going to change..drastically..within a week.
As if the new boy Rylan with hot and sexy looks is looking her weirdly and saying things she can't understand,is not enough..she's facing
hallucinations and nightmares ..only they are real..too real to be true and oh whats with those birds?
Even her new gay BFF Tink - a wicca- can't help her come out it ...and the only one left to trust to know what's happening to her ..when the
moment the clock struck making her seventeen ,with shadows and light bursting ..is Rylan.

What he knows about her,who is he ,who is SHE?And whats with weird things happening around her.?

Celesta has to discover supernatural world around her and open herself to it..only to be dragged in it..too deep..and everyone around are
getting effected and it's her duty to save them..only if anyone can tell how?

Rua..is a very entertaining read..every moment is filled with twists and turns and story is fast paced but the flow is smooth..Great one..have to say!

For a debut..remarkable!

This is a darker side of fairies YA book. I like to read books that I learn something from. This is one of those books. From other books I knew a little about fae, but I had never heard of Sidhe or Tuatha before. It was so interesting to me I had to stop reading and look it up.

Strange things begin to happen to Celeste around the time of her seventeenth birthday. She is starting a new school and experiences visions, headaches, and voices in a strange language. A swarm of black birds follow her around. And then there's Rylan, a strange, "be still my heart" good-looking guy, who also happens to be new to the school.

Her best friend, Tink, is a well-developed character. In other books I have read the male best friend characters are merely plot devices to get the MC together with the hot book boyfriend. That is not the case here. Not only is Tink a really great guy, he also happens to be Wiccan, and with his protection spells, helps Celeste even before she really understands what's going on.

The ending wasn't too much of a shocker, but the entire book kept my interest. I was able to finish it in two sittings. I would recommend it to anyone interested in a darker paranormal YA romance.

First off, let me just start saying what a gorgeous cover this is! Claudia at Phatpuppy Art sure knows how to make a beautiful cover. I am definitely in cover love with this one.

The Good: This whole book was the good! I loved it. It was such a fast fun read that I finished it in one night. The story was well written and the plot was interesting. I loved the Hitchcock feel of the book with the bird scenes. Rylan seemed pretty hot and he is paranormal too! What more could a girl with powers want? They make a super sexy couple:)

The Bad: I wished there was more of Rylan and Celeste. I liked them as a couple and their characters could have been explored a little more. I really wanted the book to be a bit more descriptive, a bit longer:)

The Sexy: There was just the right blend of romance in this YA read.

Overall: I adored this book. It was a fun read. I look forward to reading Miranda Kavi's stuff in the future. For being such a great read, I give this book a whole five glittery stars!

R2R review: Rua
(I did receive a free copy, for a real review)

16, soon to be 17 year old Celeste has had many challenges in her young life. Being an adopted child can never be easy, but then top that with loving parents that relocate often, for the jobs, can make trying to fit in a bit on the hard side. Having just moved, to a small town in Kansas, she is faced with a new high school and strange things happening to her, nightmares and shadows haunt her. Making new friends with Tink, a very caring gay kid, she starts to feel accepted. Then, Rylan, who happens to be very good looking, starts to watch her. All of this starts to make sense, once she turns 17 and she comes into her powers.

"The dreams and visions are trying to tell you what you are. There will be a moment soon when you need help. When that moment comes, call me. My cell is on the back."

All in all, this was a very fun and fast read. Great details and not over the top. I'll be looking forward to the next one, since I want to know what happens now!

I would like to thank the author for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review. This is 3.5 stars for me, and was very enjoyable. It has one of the most gorgeous covers I have seen.

This story is about Celeste, who finds out as it nears her 17th birthday that she might not be all human. As strange things start to happen she slowly finds out what she is with the help of her friends, Tink and Rylan. They might not be all normal themselves. There is some very sweet romance between Celeste and Rylan, and you will be falling in love, too. This was a different take on sidhe and other world characters than I have read about before, and it was very interesting how Celeste's powers worked as a sort of portal for them. I hope there will be a sequel since there is still much to learn and more mystery to solve about all the power she holds. And I need more of the romance. Rua has enough action and mystery to keep you turning pages. Great book for teenagers.

I just want to say, that I liked this book. From the first few pages I've been pulled into this magical world. I really liked all the characters, especially Tink - full of energy, colorful and friendly person.

I liked how author haven't forgotten about Celeste's 'normal' life. We could still see how she interacts with others in school. It's often something that is left behind when you read a book about someone who suddenly gets his supernatural powers. Only these powers count and whatever happened till now seems to be gone.

This book also reminded me of other story - Wrota. Set in more of a fantasy world, but also about a girl who find out she's a gate between this and demon world. I liked that one too.

And yes - I love the cover too :D who doesn't?

This was such a great story! The beginning of the book is filled with mystery and keeps you reading in order to find out what is going on.

I enjoyed the connection between Celeste and Rylan, and can't wait to read more about those two in the next book. But I have to say that Tink stole the show for me, he was my favorite! I found myself smiling at almost everything that came out of his mouth. Can't wait to read the next installment!

It took half the book for anything interesting to happen. The supporting cast was annoying, unremarkable, and did not support the storyline much. Rylan was the most annoying supporting male I've encountered in an YA fantasy book lately; I wanted to kick his face in. I could not bring myself to finish more than 2/3 of the book.

A very YA adult story. But it was very enjoyable for someone my age.
Celeste was a strong character who kinda accepted things too fast. Rylan was sexy, and mysertious and their relationship developed quickly.

It was a very fast read that kept me guessing about what will happen next.

Very sweet little read. Not the kind of book that will stay with you forever but still good enough. It reminded me of Cornerstone series in some ways. For me this was between 3 and 4 stars.

RUA is the first book in the Rua series and I'm still waiting on what the connection is between Celeste and the meaning of the word!

We start of with Celeste having just moved to a new town, an occurrence that happens frequently enough that she is not bothered about not having close friends. On her first day, she is befriended by Tink -- her new gay best friend who has a healthy interest in Wicca. A good thing for Celeste because things are about to get strange.

I love reading Celtic-based fantasy but all too often it is Irish-based Celtic fantasy, which this was. Still, there is enough information here to tease the imagination whilst certainly not overwhelm the reader.

The story itself is nicely wrapped up for this instalment, whilst leaving the overall story arc open and definitely leaving you wanting more. I have a number of questions that simply need to be answered!

A good YA read that will hopefully lead onto bigger things.
