A fun Summer read! Both sweetly romantic and sexy.

Have I mentioned how much I adore the author? Ella Ardent wrote the Plume Series which I am a HUGE fan of, so I was more than a little excited to dig into this book. It was great, I'm sure I'll be continuing the series in the future to find out what happens with the whole gang!

2.5 STARS

This is the first in a short trilogy about a group of friends congregating in the Caribbean for a wedding. This book gives us Jake's and Christine's story. Jess, Jake's sister and Christine's best friend, is getting married to her fiancé Ryan. All their friends and family have made the trip for a weeklong wedding getaway at a swanky resort.
Jake has always loved Christine and she him. But neither of them know that. They're great friends and despite having secret feelings for each other, are afraid of the others reaction and risking the friendship. So when Jake coaxes Christine's sexual fantasy out of her, he decides he wants to be the man to fulfill it. Seven days of sun, surf and Christine all to himself.
So yes, this was cute and I love friends to lovers a lot, but it missed something for me. Some of the things said were uber-cheesy, where I kept thinking no one speaks like that. Jake was sweet and sexy and did manage to surprise Christine, but it all fell somewhat flat for me. And because this is part of a series where each book takes place at the same time over the course of the week, I'd have to continue with the others to fill in the gaps left by this one. I don't know if I'm willing to do that, to be honest. I wasn't interested in any of the other characters but wished everything resolved for Jake and Christine here. It ended well, very happily for them, but abruptly. I have a feeling I know what's going to happen anyways with them, since not so subtle hints were dropped, but I'm not invested to continue.

This started out so promising for me... I mean... friends to more is something I looooove. But sadly, this just missed the mark.

In The Best Man, you, the reader, are invited to a wedding. Christine, who is in love with her best friend's brother Jake, is the maid of honor and Jake, *ahem* who has always been in love with his sister's best friend Christine, is the Best Man. They've never expressed their feelings because they don't want to lose their friendship.

I'm not going to get into too many details about the story, let's just say they make a pact to let everyone know they are together to avoid being hit on by frisky groomsmen and bridesmaids. Part of the deal is that Christine has to spill her most secret fantasy...

Photobucket

Really Christine... that's your deepest, darkest fantasy?

*SIGH*

So... Jake does whatever he can to make this 'fantasy' come true.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm a word snob. I can fully admit it and own it. Certain ways that things are phrased or the use of certain words really just pull me out of a story... and this story had it in bulk.

"turgid nipples."

"He ran his fingers over her, amazed at how slick and hot seh was, the way the folds of her labia were swollen with desire."

"He placed his other hand on her left thigh, spreading her wide, then she felt his breath against her hungry puss."

Photobucket

nope... sorry. I'm lost - what the hell is wrong with using the word pussy?

The writing itself was okay. There were numerous editing errors that while I was reading caused me to pause and have to reread in order to understand what the author was saying, and if I notice it, welp... I never notice any of that stuff usually.

Overall... if you're looking for something short and sweet go ahead and give it a read. You might like it if you're not a word snob like me.

A great short story, perfect for reading inbetween much longer books.

It was fun, sweet, smart and sexy.
Not too much debth to the characters but you have to expect that from a book this short, so it wasn't a problem. I still found that I completely understood Jake and Christine's motivations.

You could feel how much they already loved each other and their 'arrangement' was really exciting.

I will definitely be reading the next book.

I don't know what happened to this book. It had the potential to be a really good story but, there were too many holes and no real plot! You are left wondering what happened to the other people in the book. There is another book in the series that I will not be reading, I can't go through this again

This was okay. This book sets up for the series. The characters were okay but the story line wasn't very unique everything that happened I've read a few times. It's a shame because I loved this authors other series.

Title: The Best Man

Series: The Wedding #1

Author: Ella Ardent

Genre: Contemporary Romance / Erotica

Blurb: You are invited to a wedding...

• where a mysterious lover fulfills a secret fantasy - and finds his own dream come true.
• where a disappointed woman finds true love - in the most unlikely of places.
• where the bride and groom have second thoughts - but discover a happy-ever-after beyond their wildest dreams.

Christine has always been in love with her best friend’s older brother, Jake. The fact that she’s maid of honor and he’s best man at Jess’s Caribbean wedding means that they’ll be thrown together repeatedly for the week of the festivities. Christine decides to make it count and tells Jake about her secret desire, hoping he’ll realize that he’s the fantasy lover she really wants.

Jake has always wanted Christine to be more than his ‘other baby sister’ but doesn’t want to lose her friendship. When Christine confesses her secret desire, he appoints himself to make her fantasy come true. His only concern is the bet made at the stag, that whichever of the guys gets lucky first wins the money. Jake knows that winning the bet could mean losing Christine—fortunately, he’s a man willing to be creative in pursuit of the best prize of all.

Thoughts: This is one of those sweet short stories that you can’t help but love.

Christine has been best friends with Jessica (Jess) since childhood. Jess is getting married at a Caribbean resort and Christine is her maid of honor. Since they grew up together, Christine and Jess’ brother, Jake, are good friends to the point where he even calls her his ‘other little sister’ and he’ll be the best man at the wedding. The problem is that Christine has been in love with Josh for as long as she can remember. She is scared to say anything and mess up their friendship, but it’ll be torture being around him at the wedding.

Jake met Christine when she was 4 years old she’s had his heart since then. He wanted to ask her out for a long time, but was nervous about it messing up their friendship. I mean she even calls his mom ‘Mom’. He’s reached the point where he’s ready to settle down – buy a house, get married, have kids - and only wants to do that with Christine and plans to use this wedding to start making progress.

While at the airport waiting for their flight to the resort, the groom’s friends (1 in particular) start eying Christine and Jake comments on it. The same happens when one a bridesmaid starts headed for Jake. Jake and Christine are flirting and an idea strikes. Christine proposes that they act like a couple to keep the wolves at bay during this trip. Jake agrees IF Christine will tell him one of her fantasies. Christine agrees and they seal the deal with a scorching hot kiss that their family and friends witness. The plain is in motion, but Jake’s mom thinks he’s taking advantage of Christine’s feelings and forbids them to pretend to be a couple. Christine is basically a member of the family and Jake can’t hurt her. After Jake gets their seats upgraded, Christine tells him her fantasy, which is to be taken in the night by someone who loves her from afar – a hint to Jake. This intrigues Jake, but he teases Christine about it and tells her that his mother has forbidden them to be a fake couple. Added to this, the guys made a bet at the bachelorette party and the first guy to get laid wins. Jake is in on it and he refuses to have Christine believe this is all to win the bet.

Interestingly enough, Christine gets a note and a mask from a secret admirer asking her to show up at the beach that night. She’s sure it’s from Jake and goes to the beach wearing her blindfold, but is it?

I loved this story. You got Jake and Christine’s POV, which made it all the more interesting. It is a short story and reads really quickly. You know there are issues with the bride and groom, but those issues are discussed in this story. You get the impression that something is going on with one of the groom’s friends and a bridesmaid too, but this story is just about Jake and Christine. I can’t wait to read the others in the wedding series. Jake was PERFECT. He’s a gentleman with a passionate side. He knows what he wants and he makes it his mission to get it and make her happy doing it. Christine….well she’s your girl next door. I could know Christine. She has a good life other than the romantic piece. She’s the girl you would expect to be timid, but she has fantasized about Jake forever. This could be considered an erotic novella, but the romance was the headliner in this.

When you’ve loved someone since they were 4 years old and you thought of her as your “other little sister” or at least that’s what you allowed others to believe. He kind of get nervous when your mind and heart are telling you it’s time to settle down. Jake was at that point and being that his baby sister was going to be walking down with the man of her dreams at her very own destination wedding in the Caribbean he wanted that too. He’s really got it foremost on his mind.
Since he will be the best man and the woman of his dreams and heart will be there. He’s got a shot of getting her to come on board with his way of thinking. She’s the maid of honor to his best man, Christine. She is everything he’s ever wanted in a woman and they are best friends and that has been holding him back. All these years he has not wanted to mess up their friendship if a romance didn’t work out. Now he can hug her, hold her hand, give her a kiss on the head or temple any time he wants and no one thinks it odd. Plus he loves how they banter and talk about any and all things. She is his ideal woman.
Christine really needs this vacation although it’s coming at the worst time. This job that has now run over could be a career changer. But she did promise Jess. The thing is that she got no sleep the night before. Worrying about what if she drank too much and spilled her guts out to Jake about how she felt about him. You see she has been deeply madly in love with her best friend’s brother since forever.
She was really getting so over going to or being in wedding. Because it was showing her how alone she really is. As usual she was the first one there. After a while a rowdy group of guys come that she just ignores. Until she feels one of them sit next to her. He makes a statement causing to turn with a smile. He tells her the rowdy group was Ryan’s friends (the groom.) The loudmouth of the group Mark who kept trying to flirt with her came over and asked her what seat number she had. All three of the guys wanted to know who the lucky one was who got to sit with her. When he rattled off their seat numbers she looked at Jake like a deer in a head light. Jake says, “Honey I’m going to check on our seats like we talked about.” Jake was always saving her…
I really enjoyed this first book in the trilogy. Got it free on Amazon. It is an erotica but I liked it because it was a really good story too which you don’t always get with an erotica.

Aaaaarrrrggghhhh... This is one of those books that I really want to give it 4 or 5 stars, but I really can't. It was a bloody good read that was both sweet and scorchio at the same time, which is not an easy feat to manage, so major kudos to the author for managing it. It really was an absolute pleasure to read.

So why only the 3 stars? Well there are two reasons for that and they are:

1. Typos. Anyone who reads my reviews know already that is a bloody big annoyance to me. I'll be honest and say I do let some slide, but if they detract me from the story then it's gonna get mentioned in my review. Unfortunately some of them did distract me, especially as some of them were the incorrect gender, which had you re-reading the line/paragraph to confirm what was actually happening.

2. Thinking about the book now and seeing the cover etc, all I can think of is 2 words that were used, and I'm screaming in my head "why? why? why, did you use those 2 words?". Those two words are 'hungry puss'. The language in the story wasn't coarse, I think 'fuck' was only used once to my recollection. However at the point that 'hungry puss' was used, it would have been totally appropriate to use 'cunt' and it wouldn't have been out of context or shocking. Hungry puss was shocking, even hungry pussy would have been better. I'm still shaking my head thinking "hungry puss! really? really?"

So bottom line this is a bloody good read and I wholeheartedly recommend it. I will definitely be checking out this authors other works.

Fun. Flirty. Sexy. An overall love hot enough to combust!

The Best Man (The Wedding Book 1) is a delightful read. Ella Ardent is a talented writer with a flair for combining fun, flirtation, and hot, combustible sex between her characters to set the pages on fire. I couldn't put it down at any point in the story.
I've never read one of Ella Ardents books before and am quit thrilled to to have found another author I'm excited to have in my library.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a charming, passionate story about an all consuming love.

3.5 This was a really cute short story. Although it felt kinda off with the Jesse and Ryan who were the ones getting married. Although I read that you do get their story so I'm not to worried about it. I loved that Christine and Jake have loved each other since forever but neither of them knows it. I loved the fantasies that Christine had and Jake fulfilling them all.

It was OK.
It started out with promise and potential and then the story took a few unexpected turns (fantasy ideas) and it just didn't work for me.

I also have a pet peeve when writing repeats itself and that happened in the love scenes.

It was a quick simple read but I have no desire to read anything more from this series (or author) at this point.

In The Best Man physical relationships can evolve into something more serious by getting to know a side someone you didn't know at first especially when the ones close to you approve. The author Ella Ardent portrays christine as a very normal girl with a very a normal crush. Christine is in love with a very close family friend. His name is Jake. He is the best man of her best friend's fiance. But they have always been very close friends and nothing more. Christine has always felt something more but never spoke up. Christine has a secrete about how she feels towards jake that will come out eventually throughout the book.
Before Jake and Christines sexual relationship even started they became reconnected after time apart for both of their best friend's wedding. They both got off the plane and knew they were going to see each other but didn't expect it to be that soon. When Christine got off the plane she heard 3 guys in the lounge and had a hard time remembering who they were because it had been so long. But when she heard Jakes voice she knew it was him. Immediately lit up when she saw him, He just made her that way. He was excited to see her too after such a long time. Their relationship reminds me of a time when I met up with a friend of mine after being friends all throughout elementary school and she moved away. We saw each other out and about and we were so excited. So I know how Christine felt.
Of course on they had to make their way to the place they were staying. Christine and Jake were the first 2 people to get there and everyone in the wedding party had something to say about that. That it was very ironic that those 2 were together. I think everyone had suspected Jake and Christine to be together just because of who they were to their best friends that were dating. They were always around each other and it just seemed fitting. But Christine and Jake never even thought of it. Friendship, relationships, and family has a huge deal to do with peoples decisions on important things. Jake and Christine never thought of being together but because their family and friends have always pictured them together it might have been what drew them together throughout the book. It reminds me a lot of what my friends do and say to get some of our other friends together. Their opinion has a huge impact on my decisions because i care what they think!
From here on they had been sneaking around the beach and secretly meeting to see each other because they finally shared how they have felt about each other for so long. Throughout the end of the book Jake tells Christine something about there being another wedding soon and he was hinting at them getting married. Christine was shocked, but definitely excited. Jake told her not to tell his mom just yet because of all the stress from the wedding happening now. Jake cares about his mother's sake and also cares what she thinks. He knows she will be happy because this is all she's ever wanted. But this connects to family, friendship, and relationships because his mother is his family and he's looking out for her best interest. I can't really relate to this part of the book because ive never been in such a serious relationship that we've talked about marriage but I hope one day a man will want to marry me like Jake wants to marry Christine.
I highly recommend this book because it really draws you in to see what happens between Jake and Christine. It was written very interesting and well thought out. It relates to most relationships but still has a weird twist to make it more interesting. One thing i would say about this book is.. Dont read it around your family because it is definitely rated R. I was very surprised when i read the book and came across some lines that weren't necessarily PG 13. It was a really fun book to read and i think you should read it too!

Major plot spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Even though I figured that I would enjoy this story being that it had some great tropes that I totally love, I was expecting to like as much as I did. I can even say it was on the verge of loving it until that abrupt ending anyway. It just had so much heat and chemistry between Christine and Jake that it was hard not to be consumed with their love story. I loved the fact that this was a best friend’s brother trope to it with each Jake and Christine madly in love with each other for years on end, but refused to give into the attraction because they didn’t want to ruin the friendship between them, and secondly because they both didn’t know how the other had deep and intense emotions for one another. It was very clear though that it was on both sides even with the flirty banter between the two of them as soon as the story started. Lots great innuendos between them that was just very fun and entertaining watch, but at the same time very intense because of all the underlying feelings that were buried beneath the surface between them as they dealt with love that felt for each other for years at a time. I loved that extra layer that created that angst and tension between them.

The setup was very interesting too because Jake decided that he was going to go after Christine in full force, knowing full well that he was all in and knew that she was his one and only. He only had figured out to go about that so that Christine would be his forever girl. He decided to do it during his sister destination wedding where they would be away for a week and planned to romance her there. However what was fun about that was he set about about it. At first, he planned for them to have pretend relationship between them for the week in order to deflect interest from his other sister’s friend on his side while for her it was avoiding the groomsmen that seemed to take an interest i her. They both agreed which resulted in a spicy kiss and an amorous embrace that amped up the desire between both of them, and it was hot.

But things didn’t work out in that scenario with his mother putting kabash on the fake relationship so Jake had to come up with a new plan, and that was to learn about what her deepest desires were. Christine was hesitant to tell him, and in reality her only fantasy was that she wanted to be with him as her fantasy/dream man, only she didn’t say that and made up some fantasies that she was willing to delve as long as it was with him. With that in mind, he set about to make all her fantasies come true in hopes to win her over.

Hence some very sexy and spicy encounters occurred between the two of them, They were very steamy, very hot, and just majorly intense because it was finally all that build up desire between them that finally got released. These encounters showed how much chemistry they truly had with one another along with these intense love that they felt for one another which was very clear and made their encounters even hotter because of that emotional connection they had to one another. There was a level of respect and trust between them where they both felt safe especially Christine, who trusted him with these fantasies that he wound up bringing to life for her and bringing her a lot of pleasure in the process, and I loved that.

I think the unique thing about those encounters and playing out those fantasies was the fact that Jake was pretending to be this mysterious stranger, which was her fantasies because she felt she could let go then, and do everything in his power to make that fantasy come to life for her. Just the lengths he went through to make her fantasies come true was pretty incredible. He put his heart and soul into the charade in order to give her the optimum pleasure by pretending to be that stranger.

But what I found more endearing about that was the fact that Christine knew the entire time that he was the stranger, not only because he was the only one that she these fantasies to, but because she knew him as he held her in his arms, or just how he kissed during the heated encounters. Knowing that it was him and that she could trust him, she could fully let go and fully enjoy the pleasure between them because of that. That was a beautiful statement of their relationship. It spoke to how much love, trust and respect were between them. If it was anyone else, I don’t think Christine would have enjoyed those encounters. It was the fact it was him that made her enjoy the encounters with him. No matter what they did together fantasy or not, her biggest fantasy was being with him and anything else was icing on the cake.

Adding another little complication or wrinkle to their story was the fact that there was the issue of the bet made between the groomsman of who would get lucky first. I don’t know why he couldn’t say he was going to participate in it or what not, but he was reluctantly involved with it. Knowing that he didn’t want Christine to think that he was with her for any other reason aside from the fact that he loved her, he refused to go all the way with her until he was sure one of the other groomsman got lucky first, which resulted in a lot of steamy foreplay scenes and heated encounters that I stated above. It just really increased the anticipation between them even though they both wanted to fully be together in every sense of the word, but denied because of the bet hanging over his head. It just made all the hotter with every encounter that they had with one another that they didn’t fully go all the way. It was really a great way to up the hat between them even though they were pretty scorching between them. Though there was a little scuffle with the bet, it was of little consequence in the end ultimately.

My only complaint about the story hence stopping me from giving it a five stars was the ending. I felt it was a little abrupt. Not rushed per say just abrupt when i finally got to the last word. It was almost like there should have been something more there, instead of ending it the way that it did. Yes, they got together in the end, but I needed something more. In fact I wanted that finally love scene like Christine described in one of her fantasies to be shown. A love scene that was suppose to be slow, gentle, and very loving with the rain in the background. I wanted to see that scene played out on the page, instead of the fade to black moment that was at the end of the story. That just frustrated me a tad. This was suppose to be the pay off moment, but didn’t get which was very disappointing. I know this meant to be on the shorter side of a story, possibly a novella type story, which surprisingly I didn’t mind and had no problem with the length of the story, but that might have been the reason why it wasn’t included. But I wanted that scene so badly. If that scene was included i would have given it a five star.

Overall I truly did adore this story. I loved the premise. I loved sexy times that were very spicy and steamy. I loved the fact that this was brother’s best friend type story. Even though this wasn’t an overly angst story, I loved that amount of angst that was in it. I loved all the sexy tension between them. I loved that they had feelings for each other from the get go with deep loving running between them even though neither of them knew it. I adored their relationship that they had which was full of respect and trust especially when Christine bared her soul to him about her fantasies that she never told anyone about before, though her real fantasy was just being him. The anticipation between them was really good. Chemistry was off the charts. It was just a really good sexy, fun read that was very emotional intense because of the love between them. I loved that. The ending was the only thing I didn’t care for, but everything else was great. It was a great introduction to this author. I can see myself reading this one again in the future

Highly recommend for lovers of brother’s best friend with some unrequited love with lots of fun and sexy scenes between the scorching couple.

The Best Man is a short contemporary romance story of finding true love with your long time best friend.

Christine and Jake have known each other since they were kids, but Christine's been harboring feelings for Jake for a very long time. Unbeknownst to her, that Jake has loved her all along as well. When Jake's sister, Christine's best friend, Jessica announces her wedding, Jake and Christine travel to the Caribbean unaware that this trip would change their relationship forever.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for romance, but I love a man who can indulge a woman and make all her fantasies come true in hopes that he'd win her heart, not just her body. Jake is such a sweet man, I want to marry him >.< Finally ready to make Christine his, and his alone, he makes her a deal, if she tells him one of her biggest fantasies, he'll make sure it comes true. And make her fantasy come true he does! *sigh*

I liked Christine, she was a strong woman, wasn't your typical clingy female. She had her moments where she was irritating, but they were very few and rare, I sure didn't mind. The sex between these two was sexy, not too hot, but definitely worth reading about. And their chemistry was undeniable. You could sense that they really loved each other, not only as lovers but as friends as well.

Falling in love in the middle of a wedding event, doesn't seem like a bad idea, but when you add in a bet that could jeopardize Jake's relationship with Christine, how far is he willing to go to convince her she's all he ever wanted, all bet's aside?

Overall it's a great read. I'm not sure if I'd read book two as it'll most likely be about a character I honestly found repulsive. Fiona, self proclaimed "Bridesmaid, never a bride" annoying me with her bitchy attitude, and maybe she deserves a HEA as well, but I wouldn't care either way >.< I'll be looking out for the book though, just in case it's someone else's story ;)

I was rummaging through some books until I found this one. I read the title "The Best Man" with a profile picture of a woman and a man, as she's beginning to rip his shirt, in a delicate, passionate way.
I'm not proud of my dirty mind, I thought it was a self-help book a woman wrote, relating what she'd like a man to do to her, or that he should try so hard to make her fantasies come true and especially not trivialize them. I knew this was interesting, maybe if I'm ever gonna have a casual affair with a woman, I should probably know a lot of things (how to please her, how to make it last, etc.)
I read it, and it was not a self-help book, it was just an erotically romantic book, about a woman reciprocating her man's feelings.
I have to say, it wasn't unpredictable, it wasn't brilliantly written. It was an okay short novel. You would think it was written by a 20-year-old stupid twat trying to imagine her life in another world.
But I'd be lying to say I didn't enjoy it. It was highly promiscuous, and so eye-catching. I think every detailed retailing of an intercourse has to be eye-catching, in the name of "sex is the physical act of love."
It was okay, something you can read between classes. But these writers have to stop making their characters so goddamn perfect, if you want to be taken seriously, then you have to be serious.
Christine is my new favorite character, not that I hadn't daydreams about her, but describing her looks and her legs was so unarguably enjoyable. You know what? Forget I said anything, but I'm definitely going for the sequel.

The Wedding Anthology - 4 stars
The Best Man - 4 stars
Always A Bridesmaid - 3.5 stars
Forever Bound - 4.25 stars

The Best Man - I really liked the first story; Christine and Jake were very likable characters, there was a fun twist at the beginning of the story that gave the story it's direction. And of course we got a HEA ending, sorta...

Book 1 of 3 of The Wedding Anthology, this anthology was a light (but steamy) book. Perfect for a read by the pool or anytime you need a quick, easy/sexy CR read. While there was a storyline with a plot, it was definitely not complex. These three books are parallel, telling the stories of couples in the wedding party and a few of the guests that occurred at the same time. I recommend reading all three to get the full story and some different POVs.
