The fiction novel called The Witch of Turlingham Academy: Secrets and Sorcery was written by Ellie Boswell. The protagonist of the story is Sophie, and she is a witch. Her best friend Katy is a witch hunter her family takes the magic away from all witches. The story takes place In Turlingham Academy, a boarding school, for mortals. Sophie’s mom is one of the principals of the school, along with the dad of Callum, a good friend of Sophie. Sophie and Katy are supposed to be mortal enemies, but they still think that a witch and a witch hunter can get along and be friends. They both persuaded Sophie’s family that witches and witch hunters could be friends. Katy is keeping Sophie's identity a secret from her parents, because if they knew she is a witch, they would take her magic away. Both Katy and Sophie are hiding their magical powers away from their friends at school. When they went on a school field trip, they were obliged to tell Callum about their magical powers. Sophie is trying to save her dad from the witch hunters with Katy and Callum by her side. Sophie and Katy learned that combining witch and witch hunters magic creates a powerful magic. Thus, Katy told her parents that her best friend is a witch, and witch hunters and witches can get along.

Another title I could give this novel is Witches and Witch Hunters because this book mainly talks about witches and witch hunters being friends. I would use four adjectives to describe Sophie, which are brave, loyal, caring and stubborn. She is brave because she would take many risks to save someone she loves. She is loyal, because even though it is hard to be friends with a witch hunter and it creates a lot of problems, she is always there for Katy. She is a caring person because she cares a lot about the people she knows and loves. She is also really stubborn, because even when her parents or her friends tell her it is too dangerous, she still does it. I like Sophie because she will always, help a friends or a family member in need no matter what.


My favorite part in this novel was when Sophie, casts a witch hunter spell. Even though she is a witch, the witch hunter spell worked and took away the magical powers from her aunt. I don't have a least favorite part because all the parts of the book were fantastic. I would probably read another book written by this author because I like how she creates pictures in her writing. I would recommend it to Middle schoolers, that like fictional stories about magical powers.
